If the FOB is gone forever and you know the code, you can use that indefinitely. I found this out the hard way when I was plugging a tire that got a screw in it. I bright the plugs out, and put one in and didnt have the fob on me the entire time. Between the transport mode and the lost key procedure there is just too much to try and remember. I like the idea Kevin of copying the manual and saving the copy on the bike.
Good advice, but it is as you guys said definitely different between the years because my 06 Road King doesn't even show the numbers on the odometer it shows by the lights on the dash flashing the number.. kind of a pain in back side.
I know a guy who bought a brand new heritage softail and lost his fob after about 2 weeks of ownership! His bike sat for a couple of days while he came to terms with buying a new fob. Just before he pulled the trigger his dad came over for something, and was messing with the bike and noticed the handlebars were locked and thought, “no way. Surely he’s checked there?” Looks down at the little lock for the handlebars and……yep….nuff said. He was riding again a few minutes later!
This is very good to know. Have an Electra glide and plan on long trips. I would be in a very bad situation if I had this happen and no clue what to do. Thank you very much sir.
Hi so I lost my fob before changing the code then retrieve my fob but it's damaged beyond repair next step in retrieving code or new fob any suggestions much appreciated
If you do not have an operational FOB, and you do not know the code...I believe the only thing you can do is get a new security module with accompanying FOB(s). I have heard that there is a device out there that can read the security module you have now and give you the code...but I have never seen one, nor have I heard of a dealership having one. You can call Jamie at J&T V-Twin Repair & Mobile Dyno- 901-584-5760. He is the guy I heard that has (or knows of) the device that can do this.
I just bought a used dyna 35 anniversary 2006 and I don’t have the key fob never got one and my bike starts and run just fine, did this model come without the key fob ?
This is the first bike I've had with a fob... I don't know what my pin is. I do keep an extra battery in my tool bag. But I would be shit outta luck if I lose the fob😳 Thanks fellas
Have you looked in your owners manual? If you have a key fob, I cannot imagine that there is not a way to enter a PIN. Harley has used a variety of different methods over the years and I am not sure which method is used on a 2010 Dyna....and, it may even vary from one Dyna model to another, even within the same model year. Sorry could not be more help. If you do look in your manual and find out, if you could share it here so that other could read, that would be great. 👍
@@DKCustomProducts thanks for the response. I bought the bike wrecked at an auction. NO key, no fob, no manual. Harley dealer said i need the fob which are on backorder for a year or so.. They said they can disable the security system for around 200 until then. Guess I am stuck unless i want to pay their ransom..
@@rebjimj.e.4119 Yeah, if you had the FOB you could get the book and find out how to reprogram the PIN to one that you know. That sucks big time that they are on backorder for a year. They are right, disable the security module and you will still need a key to turn it on.
If you only use this once it will be worth the trouble to prepare for it! No way am I going to remember the steps as its just not something you do everyday. I was at a Rally in Northern Ontario and the festival grounds were home to this huge Micro Wave tower which was not intrusive, but.......yep if you guessed...not one single key fob bike would start because the tower interfered with the fob signal. It was a word of mouth "wtf is up with all the bikes not starting" and it didn't take long before people figured it must be the tower. The old kick start/key guy's were laughing at us! It was so hilarious at the time (I can say that now). I had to pull out my instructions and was able to get started without issue. Then we shared our instructions with others there to try and help out. I still laugh when I think about it and am so glad I had the wherewithal to stash my pin/instructions on me. 😅
Whoa, that's crazy that a MW Tower would do that. Glad you had your "cheat sheet" with you and were able to get your bike started and help others. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Great video guys, both V Rod’s and the Road King that I bought came with no pins. This was a great idea for a video for me to change them and know how to start the bike without the fob. Thank you
I ran into a couple who were riding their used bike at Tequamenon Falls, Michigan. They lost the key fob and didn't have the pin. Probably spent two days and a thousand dollars getting to the nearest dealer and getting what they needed.
Good info as always, At the end of the owners manual there is a card that can be placed into a wallet and it has a spot to write down your pin and has how to put your bike in transport mode. Not sure when Harley started putting those cards in the back of the manual.
I bought a used 2005 Dyna FXDI from a used bike dealer and it only had 1 fob. The Dyna was delivered and I did not get the pin number. I email the sales person and he said you just click the fob button 4 times and its armed, to dis arm it, click the button 4 times again. I decided not to arm it and recently the bike wouldn't crank over/battery at 13.5V. I change the fob battery and at first it didn't work and so I tapped the fob and then it cranked right over and started up. I am guessing the fob is worn out. Should I go to a Harley dealer and buy a new fob?

Great advice guys. I did create my own PIN soon after purchasing my sport glide new in 2018 but just photocopied the instructions as per Kevin’s recommendation. Just curious, does Harley supply only one fob with new bikes now? I received two with my 2018.
Glad you like the video! Thanks for the comment. 👍 Yes, a couple of years ago HD started including only ONE FOB with the bikes...now, if you want a second one, you need to give them more $$$. "Shrinkflation"
Can anyone turn on the start button and go through the sequence you described and find out my pin? What good is having a specific pin if someone can go through that process and get my pin. Thank for the info.
Look at your manual for the specific steps on your year/model bike. Hopefully you have a functioning FOB since you don't know your PIN. With it (a FOB) you will be able to set a new PIN.
Great info for riders with newer bikes that use the fob. I change my code # right off as I didn’t want to be stranded with a loss fob. I also carry extra battery for fob, which I did use recently after fueling up. A weak battery in fob may get you started, on that day I did have to hold fob at my crotch when I left house. At the gas station it didn’t work, minutes later I was rolling with new batt. One question : is it true or false that if you inter wrong code does it lock system after 3 wrong try’s Thanks for a response y
Yes, having an extra battery is a good idea. Thanks! 👍 I do believe some bikes are set up to lock up for X period of time after multiple tries of the wrong PIN. However, we have also seen the wrong PIN entered many more times than 3 and it did not lock up the system.
Hey guys great video perfect timing with Spring here and all. I loved the suggestion of Xeroxing the manual. I took it one step further. In addition to copying and pasting the FOB info from the manual and putting it into a doc, I printed it out and stored the document in my notes app on my iPhone. So now I am covered with an analog printed out sheet and a digital copy. Better safe than sorry. Oh did I mention that I put the PIN only in my notes app :-) Keep these videos coming. P.S. Love your products. Just recently installed an external breather and a catch can to my 2019 FLHXS.
The one thing I do religiously with my FOB is to change the battery in each one every year, at the same exact time. Never had that fail yet....at least when the FOB is by the bike.
Now, I have done what a few others have done here....start up with FOB in close enough proximity to start, but get somewhere, and then DOH!!! For whatever reason, mine (09 Ultra) is extremely touchy on code entry, and even the dealership had to "play" a bit to get it reset for me. I did have my son get my FOB to get moving in this instance, and went to dealership at later time.
Right on guys. Love all your vids. I’d love to buy some of your stuff but the freight charges and transport chain delays to Australia are a downer for me.
Deliveries are happening pretty quickly to Australia. We ship there most everyday via UPS and it is working well. Forget about it with the postal service, still lots of delays. BUT, you are correct, it is pretty expensive. We have a Distributor in Australia....Rollies Speed Shop. They may have what you want, if not, they can get it.
@@DKCustomProducts One night during a long ride I stopped for a cup of coffee and upon leaving my bike no longer recognized its own fob and refused to start without the PIN. Even using the PIN it took multiple attempts before finally starting. The dealer told me it was fairly common for TSSM to fail in that way and I would have to bring the bike in, have a new TSSM installed with fobs programmed to it by HD. So I bought and installed the TSSM myself without programming any fobs to it.
@@j.d.thompson3505 Wow! Glad you were not stranded, and you got it taken care of. TSSM's do fail, but it is NOT common as your dealer indicated. Out of thousands and thousands of bikes we've worked with, I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard of the TSSM failing.
I photographed the procedure and edited the photo to include the pin number and I keep the photo on my phone. If something happens, I can just pull up that image on my phone and I'm good to go.
You can not move the bike before the pin is entered. If the security starts going off you have to wait until it goes away before you can put the pin in and start the bike. @@DKCustomProducts even if u dont move the bike, the harley siren will go off if u try to turn the switch to ignition or on. and i dont think it turns off...
Depending on your model, it could be as simple as swapping your Turn Signal module (doubles as security system) with a TSM not equipped with the key FOB feature. May be cheaper though to visit a dealer and have them use their digital tech tool to disable the FOB
Sorry to hear that. There is a way to get into the PIN if you do not have them. I don't know of any HD Dealerships that have the Software...they generally want to sell you a whole new security module. Give Jamie a call at 901-584-5760 and he should be able to help you.
I tried this with my 2007 Softail and it doesn't seem to bring up a PIN. When I go through the sequence, the turn signals come on when I push those and nothing changes on the LED screen. If I cycle through the LED options, it only shows mileage, a mileage trip, and the clock. Perhaps the 2007 models didn't use a PIN? I just changed the FOB battery and that is working fine.
Every year can be a bit different procedure. Grab your manual and check out what the exact sequence is for your bike. 👍 If it has a FOB it has security and should have a PIN to operate the bike in case of FOB failure or loss.

@@DKCustomProducts the title of the video is "how to start your Harley without the key fob". If you know the code and the fork isn't locked you're in. You don't have to change the code, you just have to know it.
Now what is the sense on changing your pin. If all it takes is the thief to do what you did to see what the pin is and then go through the process of entering the pin and stealing your bike....that boggles my mind.
You have to have the Key Fob to change the PIN. If you don't let other folks know your pin, they cannot use that PIN to steal your bike. If you, or a thief have the key fob, neither of you need to enter the PIN to start the bike. Don't give your keys or your PIN to a thief.
Dunno why it would have a key fob for no reason. Easy way to find out....put the fob 50 yards away and see if the bike will start without it being there. KP
These videos are stupid. You have your pin you know how to start your bike. I bought a 2013 Sportster. It's been through four other people. I need to know how to start it without a key fob and no pin number. It's someone put out a video of how to bypass this stupid system. Thank you.
There is no way to defeat the system. If you have no fob and don't know the PIN, you will need to get a new security module with matching fobs. There is rumor that someone has made a module that will break into the security system, but I have not talked to anyone that has actually used it.

Good stuff guys. I believe some Harleys PIN is the last digits of the VIN?
Mine was and I believe It’s possible to change it. (I’m sure I did on mine)
Yes, sometimes the last digits of the VIN are used for the PIN. (but don't depend on it)
Yes, PIN can always be changed.
Between the transport mode and the lost key procedure there is just too much to try and remember. I like the idea Kevin of copying the manual and saving the copy on the bike.
Yeah, hopefully it is never needed...but if it is, my chance of remember how to do it is slim. 😂
Good advice, but it is as you guys said definitely different between the years because my 06 Road King doesn't even show the numbers on the odometer it shows by the lights on the dash flashing the number.. kind of a pain in back side.
Yep, every bike may be a bit different, but the instructions are in the manual, or even available online.
Wow, nice that he found it before ordering another one! 👍

Your manual will tell you if your bike came with a FOB...but if it did and you don't need to use one, then the module has been bypassed.
I try and remember to start my bike without the FOB present and using my PIN monthly to make it a none issue if for some reason my FOB doesn't work.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. 👍
This is the first bike I've had with a fob... I don't know what my pin is. I do keep an extra battery in my tool bag. But I would be shit outta luck if I lose the fob😳 Thanks fellas
I would suggest you find out the PIN right away...never know when you may need it. 2:25 mark of this video shows how to find out what your PIN is.
That was a good service to provide us. Thanks.
Good to hear you found it useful. Thank you for the comment. 👍
I've made a custom pin for my bike
Per the book
Is there anything that could happen to bike that would cause it to forget my pin
Not that we know of. Only reason it would "forget" the PIN is if it was replaced with another one.
2010 Dyna doesnt let you put in PIN. Is there a different procedure?

I ran into a couple who were riding their used bike at Tequamenon Falls, Michigan. They lost the key fob and didn't have the pin. Probably spent two days and a thousand dollars getting to the nearest dealer and getting what they needed.
That is crazy! I hope they got it all figured out and never have to go through that again!
Good info as always, At the end of the owners manual there is a card that can be placed into a wallet and it has a spot to write down your pin and has how to put your bike in transport mode. Not sure when Harley started putting those cards in the back of the manual.
Thanks for the info! 👍
You will have to have a good working FOB to find out what your pin is.
Over the years Harley has used many variations of this procedure. Check your manual for the specific procedure for Your Bike and figure out your pin so that your FOB will not be needed unless you want it.

Great advice guys. I did create my own PIN soon after purchasing my sport glide new in 2018 but just photocopied the instructions as per Kevin’s recommendation. Just curious, does Harley supply only one fob with new bikes now? I received two with my 2018.
Hi Ed. My 2020 Tri Glide came with only one fob when I bought it new.
Glad you like the video! Thanks for the comment. 👍
Yes, a couple of years ago HD started including only ONE FOB with the bikes...now, if you want a second one, you need to give them more $$$. "Shrinkflation"
Can anyone turn on the start button and go through the sequence you described and find out my pin? What good is having a specific pin if someone can go through that process and get my pin. Thank for the info.
Only if your key fob is within close proximity to the bike.
If the key fob is not at the bike, no one, including you, can retrieve the PIN.
@@DKCustomProducts Thanks! That makes sense.

My 2009 street glide i can get to the point to enter a pin but i cant see the one in the bike so i am not getting anywhere , i tried the 31313 nothing
At the gas station it didn’t work,
minutes later I was rolling with new batt.
One question : is it true or false that if you inter wrong code does it lock system after 3 wrong try’s
Thanks for a response y
Yes, having an extra battery is a good idea. Thanks! 👍
I do believe some bikes are set up to lock up for X period of time after multiple tries of the wrong PIN.
However, we have also seen the wrong PIN entered many more times than 3 and it did not lock up the system.
Great info!! Thnx guys!! I'm saving this video too...Just in case...✌️😎
Awesome! Thank you! 😎 Glad you like the video!!

Thanks for your business, we appreciate it. Great to hear that you are digging the parts!
Check your key fob "contact" inside also. If the tiny metal piece doesn`t make a good contact inside the fob, it won`t work. From experience.
Good info, thank you for sharing! 👍
Yep, batteries are the main culprit.
Yep, been there, done that. 👍
I got rid of my fobs by marrying a new TSSM to my bike. So glad to be done with all that.
What detriment did you experience by having security and a FOB that motivated you to get rid of it?
If something happens, I can just pull up that image on my phone and I'm good to go.

how do you start it with a pin if you have a harley siren on it? if u try to start it without the key fob the siren starts going off....
You can not move the bike before the pin is entered. If the security starts going off you have to wait until it goes away before you can put the pin in and start the bike. How can I do away with the fob altogether? I don't want to have to take my bike to the dealer for anything. I do all my own wrenching.
I know my pin and use it since my fob died, I just don't want to have to deal with it anymore.
Depending on your model, it could be as simple as swapping your Turn Signal module (doubles as security system) with a TSM not equipped with the key FOB feature. May be cheaper though to visit a dealer and have them use their digital tech tool to disable the FOB
My husband recently passed and no one can find the keys to either 2000 or 2012 hd. I'm wondering if he set pins on his bikes
Sorry to hear that.
There is a way to get into the PIN if you do not have them. I don't know of any HD Dealerships that have the Software...they generally want to sell you a whole new security module.
Give Jamie a call at 901-584-5760 and he should be able to help you.
You have to have fob present to view pin and to reset pin
I tried this with my 2007 Softail and it doesn't seem to bring up a PIN. When I go through the sequence, the turn signals come on when I push those and nothing changes on the LED screen. If I cycle through the LED options, it only shows mileage, a mileage trip, and the clock. Perhaps the 2007 models didn't use a PIN? I just changed the FOB battery and that is working fine.
Try turning on your ignition and then immediately and quickly hold both L and R turn signals at the same time.. My 08 Softail uses this procedure.
