      Scotty. I have an 01 regal with 181k. I have a weird knock and some dippy mechanic messed with the supercharger. I have new brakes, suspension and other window parts like regulators. Always had a good oil change and mechanics say is great car. So question is should i dump more money in it or let it die?

      @@j.pershing2197 hey j. I've been a mechanic myself 4 over 20 years even worked at GM for 5 when these cars were under Warranty new. I've owned a grand prix gtp which has the same motor and drove that to a lil over 300k. So I would definitely say as long as the transmission is still good and strong keep fixing it and driving it. They're fun cars if u want 2 play a lil and still get decent mileage.. if the supercharger is gettin weak u can get them rebuilt cheap enough if I remember correctly its a couple bearings 3 or 4 seals and a gasket. U really don't need 2 b a rocket scientist to rebuild 1. I had even taught a friend of mine on a Saturday while we drank some tequila 🤪 how 2 do his. Hope this helps and for God's sake and ur own safety keep ur car away from dip $hits. If enough people stop going to them maybe we can get most of the bad 1s out this trade and keep the good 1s in

      Basically any of their stuff built at the Stuttgart plant was good. My dad had a 1995 C class he bought new, and he gave it to my cousin as a wedding gift back in 2009. She’s still driving it, it’s got over 320,000 miles on it by now and still runs like a charm. Only major thing she’s done is put in an aftermarket A/C compressor since the stock one crapped out and she lives in the desert.

    For the transmission, it's most likely the conductor plate that needs to be changed out. Transmission fluid leaks into the connector and shorts it out, common problem. $100 DIY and you'll have a mostly perfect shifting transmission again. Changed my W208 CLK55 out just in case when I got it and it's been bulletproof alongside my 1996 Camry for years!

      You hit it right on the head with this because my 99 e320 I used to have to pull over shut off then start up and tranny was fine but its a warning to owner that transmission needs service and conductor plate is the culprit and is made of plastic and metal so the plastic wears out and cracks. $1000 job if a mechanic does it but you gotta get it done before it gets to limp mode and check engine comes on because the car won't move otherwise

    I had the 2000 CLK 320 which was a V6 it was a blast, topped out at 137. As far as the transmission that is a classic symptom of the circuit board in the transmission needs to be replaced. It can be changed out during a filter and fluid change, about an extra 45 minutes to remove the panel above the filter to expose the circuit board and replace it.

    • @fernandogadala-maria6749
      @fernandogadala-maria6749 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did it do 20 Mpg before ? Got a check engine light ?
      Have you replaced the air filter ? I would recommend you use the OEM air filter always and if it is old, replace it
      It could be a bad O2 sensor
      Also a dirty or bad MAF sensor
      Get a MAF sensor cleaning spray at your local auto parts store and clean the MAF sensor. There are many videos here showing how to do it
      If that does not help, have a mechanic run a scan tool on it and find out if a bad sensor is causing this

    W211 E klasse is also very good, good engines are the M112 engines (e240 and E320) but also the E500 (V8) is very reliable engine. The 2002 and early 2003 has rust issues at the back fenders to the front of the rear wheels. Not a big deal if you ask me, but it is there. Idk about the diesels but the E220 diesel is the best i think or the E320 Cdi.

    • @martinsvensson6884
      @martinsvensson6884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you buy a car that has been completely neglected. Then it can be expensive since its an expensive car. But otherwise the MB is a far better and sturdier built car. I have +250k miles on my E430 4m with same engine and transmission. Never ever done anything to neither engine nor transmission except a crank position sensor in the whole history of that car. Still runs like a clock and cant even feel the shifts at constant speed.

      @@martinsvensson6884 Good for you. I am guessing it's mostly highway miles you have on yours.
      All German cars are notorious for breaking down quickly, especially all their complicated electronics with zillion of sensors enough to drive a sane person COMPLETELY CRAZY AND BROKE!!!
      Again, my advise is: for cheap fun, go with the good old American made V8 and you can get parts for them from any junk yard without breaking the bank!!!!

    • @martinsvensson6884
      @martinsvensson6884 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@floridaoutdooradventures8981 No its fully mixed miles. Only thing MB is notorious for is lasting extremely long and still feeling relativelt new. Most miles on them of any brand before junked. So has been the most common Taxi brand in Europe.
      But of course if you neglect the car then it can get expensive since its an expensive car. Sure you can get a cheaper car with cheaper and simpler solutions. Going to cost less. But its not going to perform as well in any regard as a car.

    • @floridaoutdooradventures8981
      @floridaoutdooradventures8981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@martinsvensson6884 I would go with something like 2000 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am which costs lot less than this problematic Mercedes, it's also super fast, easy to fix and maintain. Check it out, maybe you'll trade in your Mercedes for the head turning Pontiac Firebird! -:)
      Also, in Euro land, you'll get more praise from the ladies with a sexy Pontiac Firebird than you would with the grandpa car, boring looking Mercedes! LOL....

Battery every six or seven years. AC condenser had a stone in it so changed it. Driven in NJ in plenty of snow. Fender wells beginning to rust. Trans filter and fluid changed twice. Shifts great. E Vap canister and valve changed. That’s it other than tires. Great car.

If you're mechanically inclined or have a good mechanic that won't charge a fortune to maintain it, these CLKs and E-Classes from this era are a good value into the Mercedes brand. Just make sure you have maintenance records!
