This is my favorite part watching Tommy show all the pent up emotion he had within him. He was pacing around like a wounded shark and then sat down looking like a lost scared little boy. His big brother worried about him as Tommy was in the other corner fighting his demons more than he was his opponent. His brother really protected him by helping him cast out those evil spirits and literally walk away from it. He was physically broken but spiritually healed. What great writing! This movie blew Me away.
He was so heavy on roids for this movie, he even got gyno because of it...he didn't have it before this movie, but after this and bane, if you notice in other recent movies he still has a visible gyno.
I have no idea why, but that scene of Tommy shoving Brendan into the corner then trying to elbow him reminds of an attack by a great white or a bull shark.
Tommy was a pure beast. So aggressive. I would have tapped and pissed myself if Tommy snarled, grabbed my throat, pushed me to the corner, and attempt to dent my head in.
You are a fucking dumbass Sean, if that is what you took away from the end of this film. And WILL trumps EVERYTHING. Which, if you had the heart of a Warrior, you would already know.
Not really. Tommy fights like that through the whole film. Regardless of who he's fighting he's always very heavy on the offense, his brother is just someone who can withstand that
Only reason he would have won was because Brendan had just fought the top fighter in the sport. Tommy was all brute force, even with fighters that weren't his brother lol
One of my favorite movies of all time! Fucking cried to this movie , had goosebumps and I was on edge of my sit constantly , what a brilliant underrated film this is ! Should got not only nominated for 1 oscar but for more , such an overlooked movie to be fair.
Tommy tapped out because he didn't care about winning the title he was doing it to help his friend's widow. Manny was the only brother Tommy had for a long time and he was trying to do right by him and his family, but then when his real brother said I love you Tommy, he was able to finally tap out since he knew Brendon would take care of him and his friend's widow. Plus he likely did very little if any jail time since his case was widely known and since any marine who lost his entire unit to friendly fire would be not in their right mind.
@@Michael-ii9fs exactly. Notice how even AFTER it became public of who Tommy really was, the USMC were still there in the stands cheering for him. @fuck2016 Tommy was gonna give his money to a single mother who lost her husband in the war. Joel has a what looks to be an expensive house or at least high market value. Its stated that he didnt "stick to the budget" when buying gifts for his daughter's birthday party, and he has a low salary job as a teacher. While I love this movie I think this is a problem with it. Emmertons character's plight is relatable, house foreclosure and bankruptcy, it almost appears if Brendan is living an over expensive lifestyle for the modest income he makes. He also thinks that his wife shouldn't have to work and wants her to be a stay at home mother. But households can function just as well with two working parents vs a household with only one working parent. And if she actually did pursue some kind of career and combined salaries, plus better budgeting and spending habits, the most likely would be able to afford their house or something smaller and more modest. It just always seemed to me that he never needed the money as badly as the script wants you to think he needs it. Meanwhile Tommy is the opposite and is doing something completely selfless and giving all the money to a dead friends wife. Brendan and his wife still have their lifes. They have options. Her husband isnt coming home ever again and their is no amount of government payout that can replace that. So while I'll say Brendan has his own justified reasons for wanting money, I really believe that Tommy's selflessness in giving the money away is a ending that I would have liked to have seen over the one we got. And like I said before, I love this movie, I just believe Brendan's character motivation for wanting to fight and save the house could maybe have used a reworking

Tommy was obviously on a destructive path for himself. He needed to vent all his angry and lose. We saw how destructive his angry was, he noticed it too, when he drove his father to drink again. Tommy's arch wouldn't have made sense if he'd won and given his money to his brother. He would have never forgiven them if he had won. Bredan was right, in the concept that forgiveness isn't just for them, it also helps oneself move on.
Tommy being the hard charging foward type fighter was kinda like Brock Lesnars first flight for the title and he walked right into a Triangle yet he beat the brakes of the guy the whole flight
This fight always reminds me of Tyson vs Holyfield. Tyson easily knocked out many good boxers, while Holyfield always struggled. He was in wars, many times in trouble, and yet he always persevered. He was calm under fire, and had big heart and will. Just like Brendon's charracter. Though I liked Tommy more I always favored The Real Deal over Iron Mike, he never had it easy in his life, and yet he overachieved. Unlike Tyson.
@@fiucik1 oh that's what you meant! Then yeah, I agree. He was too good. He never had to "fight" for his wins. I wonder what his career would have looked like if he hadn't gone astray
I've seen fellow marines like this, like theyre an animal in a cage, too afraid to show weakness because we had become too accustomed to combat that we know if you let your guard down, even for family, then you get hurt again, that its easier to just hate everyone so they cant break your spirit . If you have ptsd, it does help to talk, even if you think it doesnt, because I was that animal myself for too long.
The first time I saw this movie, I didn't know how to root for. Brenden needed the money to keep his house and Tommy needed it to support his dead friend's wife.
The only thing that I am confused on is why Tommy's brother was calling for Josh. I couldn't quite make out what the other guy with him was saying. Was he saying to break the other shoulder too and in turn that distressed Brendan?
Not really, Brendan was better. He even beat the best fighter earlier in the film. Brendan had more technical prowess, while Tommy was nothing more than a brute throughout the whole film. Plus Brendan had far more riding on his victory, while Tommy just wanted to help out the widow of his friend, far less than losing your home and leaving your wife and children homeless. Brendan won because he had more of a drive, not just anger.
@@lex_rodriguez Nope, the other guy was right. Me, my dad, and my brother all thought this ending was bullshit. We've all been doing martial arts for years, in the case of my dad competitively for over 26 years for Mike's Gym. The amount of damage Brendan took before this fight alone should have been enough of a factor to hand him a loss here. Tommy ran through his opponents like butter, not taking a single hit or spending a lot of energy. Brendan nearly lost to literally every single one, going almost all rounds and taking tremendous punishment on each one. You don't seem to understand what that does to someone. Don't even give me that bullshit about how it was his willpower for his family that kept him standing. There's a limit, and he was well past it. Brendan was not the better fighter either, and Tommy was not just brute force. He was clearly an aggressive striker, sprawl and brawl, which is the style of some of the most dominant champions MMA has ever known (Stipe Miocic, Fedor Emelianenko, Jose Aldo, Conor McGregor). He should never have lost this fight. It was 100% plot. The idea that submission fighters = technical smarts and that strikers = brute force is such a goddamn myth. It's so frustrating to see so many normies buy into it without ever having done either a grappling or a striking sport themselves. As someone who's actually better at Judo and BJJ than I am at Muay-Thai, I can easily say that the latter is just as intricate in practice as the former two are.
@@TheStraightestWhitest i can't deny that the contrast between them both was at least a bit exaggerated, it's almost impossible to get out of a fight without getting at least some damage and the plot just made it too easy to Tommy since the first fight and yes, even will has it's own limits but there's one thing that is actually real, you can't just depend on rage to win a fight and it's also very clear that Brandon was his opposite, clearly not the best fighter but with a proven will and clear thoughts during his fights. In my experience (I've been practicing martial arts since 2004) I've seen lots of people who were lightyears away from me in terms of talent but just went away over time
Honestly, I don't think anger alone would have cost Tommy this fight. Movies act like the "good guy" is always supposed to win, but in fact it's the most talented fighter that is usually the winner. The movie spent all this timing hyping Tommy as this indestructible BULL only to fall apart to his brother who got beat up in the process of getting to him. The story about family and forgiveness is truly touching, but I thought that Tommy should have been handicapped (rib injury or something) in some way in this fight to make it more believable why he lost.
Ok, wait a minute. Unless the ref and fight officials had no idea that Tommy was hurt as bad as he was, are you gonna tell me that in official MMA fights, they'd allow a fighter to continue even after his shoulder was dislocated?
Tommy should have won this fight. No cap this man got nerfed.....in a movie. like bruh what, he was knocking fools out left right and center and somehow he lost to this guy.
Military Desertion. The military tracked him down, that’s why in the movie Tommy refuses to do interviews or talk about who he is. He even used his old name when he signed up for the gym in his home town.
I know it’s really unlikely but all you ufc fans....could this happen legally in the ufc and if so has it ever happened? I mean a fighter continuing to fight after getting a shoulder or knee dislocated.
No. There have been fighters who broke their arm with the intent to keep fighting (Miesha Tate, Tim Sylvia), but the fight was immediately pulled to a halt by the referee in both cases. Doesn't even have to be in the UFC. It's a potential career breaker that is severely detrimental to a fighter's health.
I used to think that but if Tommy wins this fight he never ends up forgiving his brother and Brendan goes homeless instead of both Manny’s widow and his family winning.
This movie is not about fighting.. It's about forgiveness... An absolute master piece

I don't get why Tommy was supposed to be arrested at the end of the fight...
Military Desertion. The military tracked him down, that’s why in the movie Tommy refuses to do interviews or talk about who he is. He even used his old name when he signed up for the gym in his home town.
After this fight, Tom Hardy became a Venom 😳
😂😂
I know it’s really unlikely but all you ufc fans....could this happen legally in the ufc and if so has it ever happened? I mean a fighter continuing to fight after getting a shoulder or knee dislocated.
No. There have been fighters who broke their arm with the intent to keep fighting (Miesha Tate, Tim Sylvia), but the fight was immediately pulled to a halt by the referee in both cases. Doesn't even have to be in the UFC. It's a potential career breaker that is severely detrimental to a fighter's health.
honestly i’m kinda mad tommy lost
Sasuke vs itachi=tommy vs brendan
unfair end scene
tommy should have won
He didn't deserve to win. Especially after Brendan beat Koba.
Not with just ground and pound. Face it Tommy was just brute force.
Bryan Callen as Joe Rogan
What did he say at 2:00
Tommy should win this match, this is the worst end.
I used to think that but if Tommy wins this fight he never ends up forgiving his brother and Brendan goes homeless instead of both Manny’s widow and his family winning.
What is the name of that submission move? 0:53
Why does this feel like you stole a scene from my life right here, they won't say he actually won tho..
