They're singing in falsetto...mostly the one in the middle (Barry). It'll be extremely hard to sing this song with his normal voice and trying to hit those notes. Their harmony is impeccable!
Very correct friend. I don't think even the Bee Gees were able to re-edit this successful and splendid performance, so much so that in their shows around the world they never sang Too Much Heaven. Perhaps because of the impossibility of repeating the same harmony and reaching all the notes. Barry also holds an "only songwriter" record. He is the only person in history to have written 4 consecutive Billboard #1s (this is different from the group's 6 consecutive songs that reached #1). Starting with Bee Gee's Stayin Alive, which hit #1 Feb. 4, 1978 & held for 4 weeks. March 4, it was bumped by Andy's (Love is) Thicker Than Water, #1 for 2 weeks. Then came the Bee Gee's Night Fever, #1 for 8 weeks, followed by Yvonne Elliman's If I Can't Have You, #1 week of May 13. Since Barry co-wrote all 4, he became the only writer to have 4 consecutive songs in the #1 position on US charts. With no gap, from Feb. 4, 78 till mid-May 78, every Billboard #1 song was (co) written by Barry Gibb.
I adore Barry, but that is a subjective achievement. Totally depends on how you’re judging it. You can change the statistics you’re using to say that position belongs to Dolly Parton, Brian Wilson, Carole King, the band Queen, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon.....
@@heatherqualy9143 - How do you figure that, Heather? These are all wonderful artists, obviously, but did they also have those statistics of that many CONSECUTIVE #1 hits on the charts? IDTS! I disagree. A lot of those Beatles songs were written by John. Barry basically wrote most all of the Bee Gees songs and wrote tons of hits for other people. I would have to put Paul second. And the way the Bee Gees kept reinventing themselves I rate them the best band of all time!

One thing about the Bee Gees is that they have such a range in their voices and their talents that every song is different. They use a falsetto in this song, but don't in many others. They were a real talent.

The Brothers Gibb are phenomenal. Nothing like sibling harmony! If you want to hear Barry Gibb's normal, non-falsetto register, I recommend "How Deep Is Your Love?" from 1977's "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack as well as 1975's "Jive Talkin' " and 1970's "Lonely Days."
2/15/21 New Orleans I was born in the fifties. I still, today, enjoy and love music and dancing like no tomorrow. The Bee Gees are the greatest you will ever hear. Welcome to the world of bee gees, the best band ever!.. By the way they had a fourth younger brother, Andy.. He was on his way to join them but sadly he passed away in 1988.. I guess they are the only musicians who had a hit song in every decade, for five decades..insane!
@@futoThey announced Andy would be joining them later in 1988, but sadly he died that March. Also Barry's the only one who sang backing vocals on Andy's songs.
These are 3 brothers. The main vocalist is Barry. The 2 others are twins: Maurice & Robin. Their career started in the 1950's as kids in Australia, though they are British. The sound they're making is technically called Falsetto, which is extremely hard to maintain for a long time, but Barry was the master of Falsetto. Check their Disco songs: "Staying Alive", "You should be dancing"(live version), "Night fever". AMAZING! Check also Robin's "I started a joke" and their earlier pieces: "Massachusetts" & plenty of other hit songs. Unfortunanely, today only Barry is still with us. The twins passed away and so did their youngest brother Andy who went solo. Bee Gees stands for Brothers Gibb.
Barry is the only surviving brother. There is a sister, Lesley. She is the oldest of all the brothers. She had no desire to be in the limelight. Barry has 5 adult kids....3 grands ... and married 50 yrs.
The group the Bee Gees were brothers. All 3 brothers have falsetto range which made them that more talented. The Bee Gees have been recording as a group since the early 60's. The group became even more popular in the 70's. Their music could easily stand up today in rotation on any R&B or Soft Rock Radio station. Sadly Barry Gibb the lead singer is the only brother still alive. The youngest brother Andy Gibb not in the group, but a great solo artist in his own right passed away first. Maurice Gibb passed away then Robin Gibb passed away leaving only Barry.
Bro's, their "Staying Alive", "Night Fever", "Jive Talking" and "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" are next for you!! They've sold about 120 million records worldwide. edit- Bee Gees = Brothers Gibb
220 mil. albums by the record books. The name Bee Gee's came not only from Brothers Gibb but from Bill Good, Bill Gates, (Race car drivers and one was also a DJ who saw the boys singing at the race track), along with Barbara Gibb their mother and Barry Gibb the oldest. ALL those B.G. initials in the room lead Bill Gates to suggest the name "BG's" and later the guys changed it to Bee Gee's. 😊
They are amazing. This song has 9 tracks of their voices with three voices on each track. So it sounds like 27 voices. It’s all of their voices and it took the longest of their singles to put together to make it perfect. They donated all proceeds from this song to UNICEF about $7M
No autotune. It’s mostly Barry’s voice in different octaves and harmonies. What they did was ground-breaking and the result was quite extraordinary and beautiful.
That why people tell you to listen to your parents! The Bee Gees are THE GREATEST HARMONY TRIO EVER! A set of twins & their brother (another one is Andy Gibb- ALSO sang beautiful,! WOW CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING THEIR PARENTS saying “ those are our sons singing! “ Another group to check out is. THE RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS - BEST HARMONY DUO EVER! Try “ YOU’VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING “. “ UNCHAINED MELODY “ both are EPIC!! Great reaction🔥🔥🔥🔥 ✌🏼🤟🏼
There were 4 brothers, remember guys there were no autotune or computers to fake voices back then..This was 1978 and was done live for Unicef.. it hit number one on the charts and to date all proceeds have gone to Unicef.. 3 of the brothers have passed away, Berry Gibb, the oldest and with the highest falsetto is the only brother still alive with their only sister. They were part of the British Invasion in the 60's.
@@beverlybrown2673 They were from The Isle Of Man the family later moved to Australia..They all had British accents not Australian...and UK was their second home away from the US..
I have SOOOOOO wanted to request the BEE GEE'S - MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES!! ❤ They wrote this along with over 1000 other songs! Even before it was released, they donated ALL their profits of this to Unicef. Barry, the oldest, has what is considered to be the BEST falsetto of all time! The three brothers, Barry, and twins Robin and Maurice (pronounced Morris) have sung together since ages 5 & 8 and have a natural harmony! Next: Song to do - "Nights on Broadway" (where Barry discovered his falsetto!) They MADE SURE their videos and concerts sounded the SAME! They sold over 220 million albums! Sadly, only Barry is still with us. 😪 CORRECTION to the above: The Bee Gee's had over 5000 musical compositions in their careers! 😲 ** And Barry has his first country album, "Greenfields", based on the Bee Gee's catalog, coming out mid January, 2021. It features duets with his favorite country artists: Keith Urban, Allison Krause, Dolly Parton, etc. ❤
They do look happy while singing this, but I think it's more than that. I mean, all singers have to be something of an actor as well, to really feel the song and look like they're really living it, but here, it actually looks like Barry feels the love he's singing about. Maybe it's just good acting, and I don't know if he was married yet when he wrote this, but it really seems like he's singing it to his wife or girlfriend. I once saw a video of them doing a live concert performance of "How Deep is Your Love" (another great one to check out if you haven't), and they had home movies of them with their wives playing on a big screen behind them. It made it all the more powerful.
I love The Bee Gee's and I'm not afraid to admit it! They always got a lot of flack especially when the Saturday Night Fever album came out. But their musical genius is evident. Thankyou for showcasing the Brother's talent on your channel.❤
I have heard some great falsetto performance and I have also heard some great three part harmonies..... but I have never heard a THREE PART FALSETTO HARMONY like this before. I'm only guessing but it seems that the fact they are all brothers may have helped produce their unique sound. They have been singing together since they were children as well.
Barry Gibbs , the one in the middle is 3yrs older than his twin brothers Robyn on the left and Maurice on the right. There was one other brother, Andy Gibbs was the youngest. He had his solo career and then later join his brothers group, which about 8 months later, he passed away. The twins have also passed away and Barry is still touring by himself. They wrote the songs to the movie Saturday Night Fever , which John Travolta star in. One of the best selling albums ever.
Live! 3 voices 1 Microphone, NO autotune. Pure natural talent. The Bee Gees are one of the most legendary bands of the 70s. I grew up listening to their massive list of hits. Too Much Heaven is a phenomenal, old-school love song. They helped me get the ladies to drop the panties and break my back many times. They also wrote "If I can't have you" but Yvonne Elliman sings by far the best version. Check it out. It just gets your heart beating. Only Barry Gibb is left now. Bee Gees (BG's = Brothers Gibb). Nobody can harmonize as they did back then. When they sing "too" that little note slides up, it is incredible the synchronization and harmony these brothers dropped on us.
You have to see a videos of their live concerts, and you will be convinced that they sound the same. They were perfectionists and genius native born talents.
They have 22 albums. Have fun going down this rabbit hole.Yes, it is their "real voices" given that this was recorded about 18 years before the very first auto-tune processors were invented. Without any electronic methods of enhancing voices, it was simply called "talent"
Love The Brothers Gibb♥️” How do you mend a broken heart” It’s amazing how many great groups came out of the 70s no auto tune just talent. This is a deep rabbit hole. 👍

I guess they are the only musicians who had a hit song in every decade, for five decades..insane!
I didn't know he was going to join them before his death, i thought Andy was always solo, just with his three brother's backing vocals
@@futoThey announced Andy would be joining them later in 1988, but sadly he died that March. Also Barry's the only one who sang backing vocals on Andy's songs.
What a gift they gave the human race! So much happiness! 😁💖
We all made fun of these guys in the 70's. Because of disco. But we all had their records. And played them. A lot.
I love to vicariously hear my favorite singers for the first through enthusiastic reactor such you guys... so genuine.
I can watch this over and over and over. And, I have.
Bee Gees it is God Level ... 😮
The Brothers Gibb were simply magic!
Watched their new documentary on HBO today! So good! Amazing story.
Omg, I love the BeeGees!
No one did 2 and 3 part harmonies like the Bee Gees. They were know for the harmonies all through the 60s, 70s, and 80s
They sound just like that live ! They need no autotune , it's just pure talent !
They have been singing 3 part harmony since they were little kids. They donated the royalties from this song to UNICEF ( for kids worldwide)!
It's an incredible song that some 43 years later still sounds so fresh.
Strings, oboes, guitar, drums, bass etc...the orchestra killed it too!
Guys, when they Ang this song they donated all the money to. UNICEF. Feed the children. So far it's over 50 million. 💖💖💖
It says 7 millions on Wikipedia. Where did you get the 50 million number from?
There was so much music like this back in the day, I do wish we could go back in time because it was literally all about the music. Happy days!
You've just listened to pure perfection.
They had vocal layering in real life...no computer, no editing machine, no instrument etc. Their voices just layered one another perfectly.
They were so underrated in their time. I'm so happy to see young people appreciating them.
All the true greats were not recognized in their time; throughout history.
Barry has 5 adult kids ... 3 grands ... married 50 yrs
They were from Australia, not the UK.
@@beverlybrown2673 They were from The Isle Of Man the family later moved to Australia..They all had British accents not Australian...and UK was their second home away from the US..
I have SOOOOOO wanted to request the BEE GEE'S - MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES!! ❤
They wrote this along with over 1000 other songs!
CORRECTION to the above: The Bee Gee's had over 5000 musical compositions in their careers! 😲
** And Barry has his first country album, "Greenfields", based on the Bee Gee's catalog, coming out mid January, 2021.
Watch some of the Millennial reaction videos to the first time hearing the Bee Gees, esp. Barry. They are blown away by their talent!
Got a lot of flack maybe! 😂
@@maelilmc4079 thankyou. My bad.
Barry also wrote "Grease."
I saw them live in 1975 and they actually sound better live... love love love the BeeGees!
They have 22 albums. Have fun going down this rabbit hole.Yes, it is their "real voices" given that this was recorded about 18 years before the very first auto-tune processors were invented. Without any electronic methods of enhancing voices, it was simply called "talent"
Bee Gees turned out one masterpiece after another.
No effects back then BROS. These brothers have perfect harmony. Your faces said it all. Lol
The greatest singers of all times
Love The Brothers Gibb♥️” How do you mend a broken heart” It’s amazing how many great groups came out of the 70s no auto tune just talent. This is a deep rabbit hole. 👍
This song still gives me the chills after decades...the most beautiful vocals, ever!!
