Agreed. The Aussie model has the same set up. We do know there is a bit of a refresh coming later in the year. As an aside I note that in the Nikon mirrorless camera world we have had several major updates to firmware. Surprisingly these have included free) additional features, not just bug fixes. I really do hope this idea catches on in the EV world too.
Anyone know if the “1-pedal” drive function can be applied to the “favourites” button on the steering wheel so it can be turned on at the press of a button on start up?
Does the refresh reduce the tendency for the lane assist to steer you into the hedge, as many people have reported? There are few MG cars in Fenland because many of our roads are causeways with deep drainage ditches barely half a metre from the tarmac.
The emergency lane keeping still seems a bit aggressive on mine so I try to remember to switch it down to warning mode. It's okay for motorway driving but not really suited to our country lanes. Otherwise I'm very happy with mine which is the refreshed version
And that is why the Nissan Leaf one pedal driving is better as its on all the time or off with a simple physical button, it works in forward and reverse also no brake needed from forward to reverse, I never find it too aggressive. Hopefully they fixed that where if you change from say eco to normal that it resets the one pedal driving. But I guess it turns off every time you turn off the car?
@decimal1815 That's not what I said, most cars you need to press the brake pedal to shift from reverse to forward, the Leaf only needs the brake once from park to forward or reverse.
@@deltajohnny hi I’m thinking of buying the MG4 . Can you tell me what the upgrade was please and does it have the auto buttons to close the hatch back . Thanks
Great content! I noticed that Australian videos of MG4's show a much more responsive Software/Touch system, compared to EU based cars. Are they running different hardware?
Another really useful (and sorry Martin, nerdy) review. It is good that MG are taking, excuse the pun, a leaf out of the Tesla playbook and quickly rolling out software enhancements. A pity though that the one pedal setting has to be reactivated at each start. Whilst the MG 4 is outstanding value for money and drives as well as its European competition I still feel the cabin is somewhat uninviting with its universal black plastics and upholstery. The rumour is that there will be an interior quality update later in 2024 but that it will be accompanied by a big price rise. I guess that with nothing to prove and perhaps being a bit sensitive to industry and political comments of price dumping MG might well be feeling confident that they can increase prices so now may be no better time to buy. Unfortunately retail buyers appear to be unwilling to pay new EV prices so nearly new represents absolutely outstanding value. Much the same applies to many EVs at the moment as I guess the market has taken a view that without Govt grant support prices will be discounted by sharp first year depreciation.
Yes, with a cosy of living crisis for many people in the UK they can't afford monthly repayments over £300 at the moment. That rules out most new cars unless they have a huge deposit. I'm not sure that grants for new imported cars is the easy to go either. Retailers will just pocket the difference. Much better to fund scrappage schemes for older polluting ICE cars? Then at least there's a benefit for everyone. Also, if MG put up prices, this illustrates that the wave of cheap Chinese cars may be short lived. If the legacy car makers go bust, we may just be left with expensive Chinese imports: no competition and lots of jobs lost in Europe/UK.
Hi Martin I think that grey one you drove was the one I took delivery of last week! Such a great drive! Still learning and testing things out on it.. loving it so far!
I prefer the body coloured roof. I’m old enough to remember the dreaded vinyl roofs that were so prevalent on ‘top spec’ models in the 70’s and the current fad for different colour painted tops on modern cars will look just as dated quite quickly. 😆
Have they added a rear interior courtesy light to all versions? Basic stuff really, it’s very dark back there without one. Great that MG are listening to feedback.
@@Sandakern thanks, yes I've heard the same from other MG4 owners. Looks like they have got it right on this EV. Not always the case though. Think the Kona doesn't activate the brake light on all regen levels for example.
Hi, so glad the wiper on the rear is now incorporated….! My current EV doesn’t have one and is not great for our weather and messed up from road dirt … ! Also, I watched thro this video whilst eating breakfast so hope I didn’t miss this next question. The software on the MG 4 didn’t used to remember driver setting, eg the dangerous addition to cars is this auto steering to lines. I’ve owned one for a year and never have I thought that it’s difficult to see out of the car. Visibility is really good in my opinion. When reversing into a parking spot I just angle the wing mirrors down so that I can see the parking bay lines.

It is absurd that MG will not add one pedal driving to the pre facelift models. I understand they did for Australia, and I honestly believe the older cars would be fully capable of having it added in software. We early owners were effectively guinea-pigs, contending with all of the teething problems that the cars had (undertray, oil leak, lock in, murderous lane keep assist, phantom braking, footrest breaking, door handle locks failing, headlight sensor, etc. etc).
