I’ve had my MG4 Trophy for 20 months now. I enjoy driving it despite its idiosyncrasies. A quick and permanent way to turn off the LKA is to option the “Towing” function. I find energy recovery choices entirely satisfactory. It would be nice to have one pedal driving but the existing setup works well for me. The software leaves room for improvement but I believe updates are in progress. Apart from some minor issues, the car has been completely reliable. I’d happily buy another.
I have had the car for a year now. The later 2023 Trophy model. The car has been brilliant. Note that I am coming at this from a driver perspective. I have never sat in the passenger or back seats. I preferred the drive of this car when compared to the Model 3. The efficiency is not the best at high speeds. I have been keeping very close tabs on performance logging each trip. I can see a definite improvement in efficiency when the outside temperature is at 20 degrees. I keep LKA on as it doesn't bother me and I found it very useful at times. I have not experienced any phantom braking. I just got the latest software update and LKA can be turned off from the main screen. One pedal is standard in all later models (I have it). My model also has rear screen wiper. It is equivalent to an ID3/Cupra Born . Climate control is one of the physical buttons and can be mapped to the buttons on the steering wheel. Main thing I would wish for is a paddle to turn one pedal on and off. I have driven 10000km over the year and the battery SOH is 100% following best charging practices for NMC. This is very much a drivers car. The road handling is fantastic.
Makes me laugh that Americans would complain it isn't safe in a country where you can buy automatic weapons in Walmart. It's a great car for the money and very popular in the UK, my next EV will be the MG5 which is the estate car (station wagon) version.
We bought the MG5 face lift, as a small estate I cannot fault it, we also tow with it for larger items. Fantastic car with currently no real competitor. With the latest firmware it can also use the open Tesla chargers here in Europe.
Ive had my MG4 Excite ( the lower trim level in Australia) for about 12months now. It doesn't have the wireless charging, heated seats or wheel, navigation or the wing on the back. These are "Essence" features( higher trim in Oz) I agree about the LKA being a pain and the phantom braking is an issue as well, although Ive got used to it and can anticipate the situations when i need to overrule it and just don't let it steer me wrong, and have my foot read y to over rule the occasional slowing with the accelerator. I do wish i could turn those features off sometimes and have it persistent. I have seen people report phantom AEB events in certain situations like diamond turns. That hasn't happened to me though. Apparently there is a software update to improve these things, but I haven't had it serviced yet ( 2 years or 48000Km) and it hasn't bothered me enough to demand an update. I like the driving experience, you can drive it vigorously and it performs quite well, or just cruise. One pedal drive is available, and it s fun, but not persistent, so I usually don't bother. the different driving modes adjust the re-gen, and I have that mapped to one of the steering wheel buttons, so i can switch from normal to sport and then custom ( which ive setup with maximum re-gen) with that button. I like that its rear wheel drive. Mine does have a rear wiper washer. The adaptive cruise control and LKA is good on the motorways, and it has traffic jam assist which will follow along nicely and keep itself in the lane for those situations, but it doesn't work well on narrow windy roads. I haven't had an issue with the climate control except on cool humid days when it tends to be bit cold to defog - but that's common to other cars Ie had too. One of the main reasons I didn't choose the Essence trim is it comes with a black roof - which is of course madness here in Australia.
Mine, a very similar model (long range) built about a year ago 2023 has slightly fewer bells and whistles. It did exactly the same with the emergency stop. I think there are 3 different levels of sensitivity but it only did it once so maybe it remembered that I'd set it to less sensitive. The fact that you have to tell it to cancel lane assist every time you turn it on is indeed a pain. I see you removed the central rear headrest as did I. Rarely needed and better visibility resulted. Buying last year's model and getting an ex courtesy car that had done 150 miles knocked £10,000 off an already reasonable price. A very good car which, driven sensibly will do, near enough, 300 miles. Some of the software is a bit iffy, but generally I'm well impressed.
I own a MY2024 of the latest serie, you get one pedal on by default, lane keep assist doesn't engage on single carriage routes, all the assistants works better and more gently. You get rear wiper and central headrest from MY2023. Given the cover of the alloys your is late MY2022. Car feels quite efficient up to 120 km/h. Only concern I have with it is Intelligent Speed Assist, on by default because of last EU rules. It pick up random speed signals in the next carriege or motorway's exits, quite annoying. But other than that I have no complains.
I've had one (51 kWh Excite) for a year now and put about 12,000 km on it. My driver assistance certainly isn't good, but perhaps not as bad as the one you tested. Apart from that, I'm very pleased with the car. No mechanical issues at all and no signs of wear apart from a slight rattle in the back somewhere. It's very solid feeling and well built, and the efficiency is excellent; better than specified. It handles well too, on the windy mountain roads where I live.
I really love my MG4 but yes I do have to press the button to deactivate murder mode/Insta-kill when I'm travelling outside of my normal route. I wish LKA would either stay off or just work!
Yes I think they reduce the rating for that. An automatic crash into oncoming traffic system gets the car a higher score. A system that randomly nags about speed limits also gets a higher rating.
The assistance package on the MG's are widely critiqued but having been getting better. I have the MG5 so it remembers how I set it; I believe now under EU regs they have to default to being on. For the price they hard to beat, and I would definitely buy one again.
Welcome back to the UK Kate. Good review. I've got a 23 model MG4 Trophy and absolutely love it. My experience with the driving assistance is OK but I don't drive in Cornwall, mine has had a couple of software updates, which tames the LKA. The software could be more robust sometimes the peripherals don't work and it forgets my settings. I'm easily getting more than 4 miles/Kwh. The internal temperature is inaccurate but I can contol it via the voice control. It seems like the cars vary quite a bit.
I love my MG5 but I agree about the driver assistance. It makes the car feel haunted by a poltergeist. On the pre facelift MG5 you can turn it off and it stays off. Maybe on the MG 4, try Holly water. Second hand you can get some amazing MG4 bargains. Fastned chargers are the best. Enjoy your holiday
If one pedal driving wasn't an option then you're driving an MG4 with the original software. They added it about a year ago and there have been a few other updates more recently including charger routes in the built in satnav system and I think there was also a fix for the phantom breaking issue. That said I've driven over 20,000Km and it's been fantastic. Haven't found the driver assistant to me overly invasive, although I know some do.
Really good filming here Kate, interesting review, you certainly reminded me of all the reasons I wouldn't have one 😂 Our Ioniq 38kWh has a similarly enthusiastic lane keep assist but before I start driving I turn it off with the switch by my knee then I turn on auto hold...because I never had it before and it amused me, until I park and realise it's stopping the ability to crawl forwards or backwards....and off I go, no worries. I need my passenger to work the screen, I have short arms and I'm too old to faff about with a computer while I'm driving. I used to be able to roll a cigarette while driving a bus so I'm not uncoordinated just technically incompetent!😅
My Sister and Brother in Law have an MG4 and they like it. So much so, my Sister cancelled her Ioniq5 order and bought a ZS EV Long Range. But yes the lane assist, particularly on the lanes of Pembrokeshire is a pain. Seems to be less of an issue in the ZS as apparently it's easier to turn off.
Software updates have been available for months to soften the lka function (and more are planned). Maybe this hire car is running with the original software?
I liked this review. I am however glad you clarified the firmware update situation. The moment you said you loathed the lane assist etc. it sounded like the sort of thing people were saying before the refinements arrived. The easy way to tell is if the cruise control speed setting requires a long press to go up 5kmph or just does 1kmph. The current version removes those issues. You have the wrong car software to evaluate the current MG4. Lots the odd things you mention depend upon how well the car maker applies the weird EU rules about safety. Being able to save preferences like safety settings is an EU requirement unfortunately. I drive a 2024 MG4 here in Australia, it has NEVER EVER done any of the things you mention. It does stop suddenly if pedestrians walk behind you if you are reversing (even if you are going very very slowly). It is actually an English designed and engineered car built by SAIC in China, that is an interesting part of the history of the car and partly why it drives as nicely as it does. (Think iPhone designed in California built in China).
Seems a fairly accurate, the MG4 is a great cheap car, but the Lane Keep Assist is murderous! The phantom braking usually happens because you are using adaptive cruise control with parked cars in the driving lane, however it sometimes happens when you have stopped and try to pull round a parked car. It is possible to set up the car so you can turn off the driver assist functions in 2 button presses, and once you do that, most of the problems go away. The temperature sensors are just wrong, expected temperature plus 5oC seems to be needed to get roughly the expected level of warmth. Other than that, it's a lovely car, I'd thoroughly recommend it!
Few cons I noticed after having this car since May : 1. Wiper motor and sweep is rather noisy. 2. Settings like regen level and lane change assist cannot be saved. Need to change back every time the car is turned on. 3. Sloppy build quality with rattles from all over. 4. Mushy brakes which can be dangerous. 5. Very bad reverse/360 camera resolution. It's rather embarrassing when others see this. 6. Stiff suspension compared to BYD Atto 3. Ride can be very harsh over rough roads. However, it does give a nice and sporty driving experience.
I have MG4 TROPHY long range on lease via a salary sacrifice scheme... people laughed at me as I previously drove an E Class coupe, but I have to say the MG4 is a fabulous car, I've done 2k miles in 4 weeks been to London and back in it superb, lane keep assist front collision etc... I simply turn off before each longer journey
Thanks, interesting we have had ours for two years almost now have been through all the gripes and whinges put forward. Yes LKA can be a bind initially , Got used to it now though. The corrections I no longer fight stay a bit cool on this. I should not say so But I let it drive itself up a. Deserted stretch of the M5 amazing fun just had my hands a millimetre off the wheel (both hands (hint). The only chore , to be fair, is disabling the aeb opting for alert only (which you can turn down audible control)so fair criticism . But we paid £26k for it . Ok it’s not a Tesla for £40 odd K , but leave it in normal regen mode and summer driving on A roads and I have seen 7 kWh/m . One pedal driving is very nearly there, my concern is the rusting of the disks and callipers . Agreed MG service is woeful dealers are polite but Basically petrol heads. As an American perhaps you do not appreciate the ENCAP rules which determine the software and self drive attributes and choices For I’m ported cars. My wife bought a s/h Zoe on a ‘20 plate , now that was value under £10K for an immaculate car with under 10k miles definitely affordable. The software is just as vague, In fact imho the MG despite its peculiarities is better by far. Fair to say response times can be slow but I honestly do not feel you have got used to it. Ie I only use the l/h buttons to Switch the a/c . Not the slider off the steering wheel . In winter the remote control from my phone enables the a/c to be switched on prior to use that is nice. SAIC like others needs to upgrade software over the air, it’s got to come . Thanks, any way pity you cannot buy one in the US but frankly the paranoia in the US about Chinese imports purportedly produced ‘unfairly’ by state funding etc is an own goal big time as with tariffs in the EU , and the height of hypocrisy .
I tested it two years ago and i didn't trade in my MG ZS EV for it because the fiscal authority here in Spain don't allow me sell my car until 2025 to keep some tax rebates.
On my Excite 51 variant, the climate controls are much larger and clearer but more importantly, easily controlled from the right thumb stick without ever having to touch the screen.
I have had an MG4 (Trophy) since Oct 2023. I think it’s a great value car, ( not perfect ) but it’s great value for money, especially with the 0% finance deal I got with it. Yes the Lane Keep Assist is too fierce but I understand a software update to fix this is coming, hopefully when I take my car in for a service in a couple of weeks time.
I have had same model as this, MG4 Trophy, for 15 months. I agree with all you say. It is a gerat car to drive, especially on long trips, but the MG Pilot; Oh dear! Dreadful beeping from Lane Keep Assist on country roads. I don’t mind the tug on the steering wheel as I am strong enough to prevent it steering me into hedges, pot holes and oncoming traffic. The “phantom emergency braking” is stressful and dangerous. The touch screen on my head-unit is not very responsive and difficult to use whilst driving, especially as, in a right hand drive vehicle, I have to use my left hand. Efficiency is poor in the winter but okay at warmer temperatures. I must try speaking to my car, as you did, to adjust the temperature, although I usually ask my co-pilot (wife) to manage the head-unit. I hated mine for the first six months but, now that I have learned to live with the MG pilot, I enjoy the car more.
I have had my ER trophy for 8 months now and can not praise it enough. It just works, it is so smooth to drive and being orange it stands out from those bland SUV;s which I detest.
I've had my 2024 X Range (trophy equivalent) for a month now. Most of what you're describing has been fixed. You can control the climate control fromt he steering wheel, there's a rear wiper and the lane keep assist is still bad, but not thay bad. It also now comes with 245 bhp, so no complaints there Very good choice for the money.
Hi Kate, we also rented an MG4 and were driving in Cornwall today. We saw a blue MG4 like yours on the M5 today on the way, was it you? We were in a black one! Haha, probably many blue MG4s in the southwest!
I was by myself, so no pretty camera work. Sadly by the time I'd got to Clevedon I was so late I had to turn straight round - I was planning to get a pretty pan but just didn't have time :-/ ^Kate
@@transportevolved It was just nice to see my favourite EV channel just a few miles away from home - especially given you're usually several thousand miles away! Hope you're rested and had a good trip back over here 🙂
I have a 2024 MG4 Xpower the A/C is sorted now. I've not had the same problems with things not working, the bleeding Lane Keep Assist tries to kill you if you don't turn it off! Apart from that it's a brilliant little rocketship!
Is there a useful lane keep? I don't use it on my EV6. I've not felt like it was dangerous, but rather pointless. If I have to keep my hand on the wheel and pay attention anyway, steering just isn't a chore. And if I'm steering, there's no disagreement -at all- with the car regarding lane changes, turn lanes, or strange road markings. 🤷♂️ Now, I love the adaptive cruise. That I find very useful, though not without quirks; mostly arising from the cars "myopia" to the bigger situation than I have. But it does lower my stress at dealing with the realities that my "ideal" speed and others differ.
Pity that you didnt push it in the corners as that is where it really excells! Had mine a year and is one of the first with the minor additions. Software is the car’s biggest let down however that is updatable! Mine had a software update in June this year and it has improved a lot. LKA is still way behind our 2018 Ioniq but I now rarely turn it off. My biggest dissapointment is probably its lack of efficiency. The last few months with dramatic price drops on European EVs it no lomger looks such a great buy.
I had the stamped down on the brake issue as well, however mine was on a regular two lane road doing 60km/h with cruise control on and I think what triggered it was a council worker near the curb trimming a bush, he looked my way and the car stamped the brake instantly probably thinking he wanted to cross the road. So probably not a bug but a safety feature.
The temperature is measured at the AC output, not in the cabin. A bit strange but just means you set the temp to a few degrees higher than the cabin temp you want.
OH MY GOD!! To the person on your team who created the intro on this video, you sold an MG4 and I haven't even seen the review yet! This was straight ASMR. I could play it on loop and transformed into a better place.
The software update helps, it ads one-pedal breaking and swipe down climate controls. I find it a bit slow on start up and not all options come up straight away. The voice controls are useless for me, particularly for nagivation. I haven't had anything catastrophic happen with the assistance system, it freaks out on roadwork and gets the speed limits wrong constantly but otherwise fine. It might be worse in the UK.
I've had this car since late 2022. I can thoroughly recommend it to viewers. Totally agree with the driver assistance/safety features, but at least this stuff is software which can be improved in theory. I've not experienced the switch issues that you mention myself. Charging is very good on long trips. I would also mention the app is decent and can be used as remote/friend key and start. Overall I've been very happy with the car and with MG. Loved the test route around Bristol and Clevedon - very nostalgic for me!
Re: seat covering breathability. Kate's wife's comment is precisely why I prefer fabric seat covering over leather or vegan options. You don't end up slithering out of the car on a hot day, especially after a long journey & and dissolving into a pile of goo. You can also opt to use removable carseat covers on top of fabric seat covering without having said seat carseat covers sliding about for easy maintenance; I like sheepskin ones myself as these are great for prevention of numb bum syndrome and can be chucked straight into a washing machine before being line-dried.
I actually watched this a couple of times. I agree the USA beeds a car like this. While i did not here a price, you mentioned the price many times. I'm sure that just because im a bit old and my attention wanders. And yes I will write my legislators. The US got caught with their pants down while the Chinese are running ahead in the adoption of EVs . I guess there is always a used EV - finding one in central California is a chore.
Never had your braking issue after 1 year of use. Must be a 1st world issue having to press the screen 2 times to switch off LKA. Climate control can be set on the steering wheel!
@@StephenLawrence01 exactly. I wonder why reviewers don't actually read the car manual to some extent. Giving misleading information isn't actually helpful.
One: our car was not configured that way. Two: I literally comment that you can configure the climate control to be on the steering wheel Three: it did not come with a manual, it's a rental. Four: didja skip the bit where I point out I'm doing this as a bonus for viewers while I'm on vacation. And Five: when the LKA turns on every time you set the car, periodically the ability to disable it disappears from the menu and on multiple occasions it attempts to direct the car into a barrier, another vehicle or a hedge, it's going to get a mention. It's a review, not cheerleading. ^Kate
@@transportevolved it's a little odd to continuously complain about having to use the screen for AC adjustment, rather than spend 5 minutes setting it up to operate via the steering wheel buttons. The review of long term owners is rather more valuable to potential buyers than someone whose had a rental for a few days. The lka IS dangerous in the early software versions, which is why people turned it off prior to each journey.
It is genuinely very poor UI design for a vehicle. Something we've explicitly done a video on is poor user interface design. We did have a climate adjust button on the steering wheel which would pop up the climate display briefly, but I still had to take my eyes off the road, and it would disappear again so quickly that I frequently couldn't hit the temperature adjustment required. ^Kate
The big 3 legacy US automakers are so screwed when the Chinese and Chinese-built EVs get here. Despite tariffs, they will come and they are making some great vehicles that Ford, GM, and Stellantis need to figure out how to compete with... quickly.
Having to put the climate control at 25C to make it feel like 20C and dangerous behaviour of LKA at single lane roads are strangely consistent complaints in almost all reviews of Chinese cars, from expensive Nios and Zeekrs to cheap MGs and BYDs, but somehow not Volvos and Polestars.
It happened to me. Suddenly stopped and I'm guessing it sensed an obstacle on the side because I noticed it sounded the alarm when a pedestrian walks near the front side.
Driving on the other side means in times past you would, as a man, use your wife/partner as a shield if attacked. All a bit cowardly. The Imperial system allow you to divide by three, the metric one does not which is a huge unthought out glitch.
Such a useless review. Why would anyone review today a two-year-old car model with a two-year-old software version? Already the 2023 model had a rear wiper, so this is definitely the 2022 model with an ancient software.
Hello from Denmark, I am sorry to hear you have all the most known problems with your MG4, the models from 2024 have. rearwiper and new software that worked much better, not the best in the world but no more dangerous situations.
Interestingly it has a very bad reputation amongst mechanics in New Zealand- despite winning Car of The Year. They question the build quality. I guess time will tell…
Wow, my Dad owned a 3nd gen ZS EV for a short period and the satnav was dreadful on that. It looks like with this model they made things worse still with those driver assists. A shame as when my Leaf expires one of these would be on my radar with its CCS charging instead of Chademo
The regulations demand that those driver endangering systems default to on every time you start the car. Done blame the car maker for that one except perhaps for not putting a big old button on the dash you can push to turn them off. If you look at the rates of highway deaths you will see that the numbers have gone up as they have moved the heater controls to be in menus instead of simple knobs. Drivers distracted by trying to get the darn thing to stop roasting them are about as dangerous as drunks on the road.
Thank you! It's nice to be teased with what we'll never get here in the US. hehe. I similarly fight with my car's HVAC(Model Y), and the onscreen non-sense. Seems there no end to this stupidity in car infotainment.
All this driver assist tech sounds annoying. It stinks that you can't switch it to "off" by default. Better yet, can you order the car without that feature?
Reviews of the MG4 putting the 'ass' into 'driver assistance' are what steered me away from the MG4 toward Kia's Niro and ultimately EV6 (which is certainly not a compact car, as I would actually wish.) The one downside both cars share is the lack of rear wiper and the (presumably sensible from an aero point of view) rear spoiler, which means that automatic car-wsahes can't get to parts of the rear window. On the bright side, on the EV6 at least the lane-keeping/holding assistants can be per-trip deactivated using a single on-wheel button.
I wouldn't put too much weight on the opinions of people hopping into a car for a few days on things like driver assists since it takes a few weeks to get used to them
MG introduced a rear wiper into the car not too long after it came on sale, but naturally if you were considering it when it was freshly on sale that wouldn't have made a difference.
Who did you rent the vehicle from? I would love to rent one of these to give it a good test drive for a few days 12:46 "No you Fcuking can not" what? 🤭 20:55 too late 🤣
We rent from SVH (also known as Voltage Hire). If you do rent, let Kevin know you watch the channel, eh. He's been lovely to us (we pay full fare, to be clear. Just he's been really helpful). ^Kate
you GET what you pay for, go CHEAP EV, and you may pay w/ your LIFE. TESLA #1 concern is YOUR Safety above all else, Tesla also very EFFICIENT , w/ long ranges , every Tesla Drives BETTER than a BMW , Porsche or Mercedes.
Actually, apart from the driver assistance I'd consider it. If I could get Comma.ai installed on it, and it was available in the US it absolutely would be on my recommendation list. ^Kate
For heavens sake WHATS REGENERATIVE LIKE .? 12 MONTHS AGO IT WAS .. NO GOOD . IT SLOWED DOWN MUCH TOO EARLY WHEN APPROACHING A CAR IN FRONT OF IT .PLUS ALL THE THINGS YOU MENTIONED RE THE INFO SYSTEM ARE SHOCKING .. THIS WOULD MEAN YOUD HATE IT . I DO. How can MG release this car with such a multiplicity of poor things to cope with .. menus to do things ..UNACCEPTABLE
Goodness me MG are negligent with so so much wrong and non intuitive. I truly have had a gutful of shite house problems with MG .. they MUST FIX OR I WILL KEEP THE PRESSURE ON THEM. I WILL NEVER BUY ONE UNTIL THEY REDESIGN MENUS AND ISSUES IN THE MG4 OR OTHERS

I think EuroNCAP penalises vehicles that allow you to keep Lane Resist turned permanently off
Yes I think they reduce the rating for that.
MG cant even perform BLIND left turns Automatically.

Nice to see you Kate! Keep Evolving!!!
Great video. Definitely, more smaller cars, more competition, better prices ... win win win ...
the intro clearly shows this car fits in the British/English landscape really 👍
If *only* we could buy this car in the USA?!
LESS safe than any Tesla.
WONT be able to REGISTER in the USA, paperweight.
Really good filming here Kate, interesting review, you certainly reminded me of all the reasons I wouldn't have one 😂
Our Ioniq 38kWh has a similarly enthusiastic lane keep assist but before I start driving I turn it off with the switch by my knee then I turn on auto hold...because I never had it before and it amused me, until I park and realise it's stopping the ability to crawl forwards or backwards....and off I go, no worries.
Few cons I noticed after having this car since May :
I like this car.
moron.
Thank you for such a comprehensive review, you are very thorough.
A really good car.
DEATHTRAP.
Thanks, interesting we have had ours for two years almost now have been through all the gripes and whinges put forward.
Yes LKA can be a bind initially , Got used to it now though. The corrections I no longer fight stay a bit cool on this. I should not say so
But I let it drive itself up a. Deserted stretch of the M5 amazing fun just had my hands a millimetre off the wheel (both hands (hint).
The only chore , to be fair, is disabling the aeb opting for alert only (which you can turn down audible control)so fair criticism . But we paid
£26k for it . Ok it’s not a Tesla for £40 odd K , but leave it in normal regen mode and summer driving on A roads and I have seen 7 kWh/m .
One pedal driving is very nearly there, my concern is the rusting of the disks and callipers . Agreed MG service is woeful dealers are polite but
Basically petrol heads. As an American perhaps you do not appreciate the ENCAP rules which determine the software and self drive attributes and choices
For I’m ported cars.
My wife bought a s/h Zoe on a ‘20 plate , now that was value under £10K for an immaculate car with under 10k miles definitely affordable. The software is just as vague,
In fact imho the MG despite its peculiarities is better by far. Fair to say response times can be slow but I honestly do not feel you have got used to it. Ie I only use the l/h buttons to
Switch the a/c . Not the slider off the steering wheel . In winter the remote control from my phone enables the a/c to be switched on prior to use that is nice.
SAIC like others needs to upgrade software over the air, it’s got to come . Thanks, any way pity you cannot buy one in the US but frankly the paranoia in the US about
Chinese imports purportedly produced ‘unfairly’ by state funding etc is an own goal big time as with tariffs in the EU , and the height of hypocrisy .
It also now comes with 245 bhp, so no complaints there
Very good choice for the money.
Hi Kate, we also rented an MG4 and were driving in Cornwall today. We saw a blue MG4 like yours on the M5 today on the way, was it you? We were in a black one! Haha, probably many blue MG4s in the southwest!

That’s what I was thinking. I live in Clevedon and immediately noticed the junction when Kate got onto the M5 😊

@@transportevolved It was just nice to see my favourite EV channel just a few miles away from home - especially given you're usually several thousand miles away! Hope you're rested and had a good trip back over here 🙂
Hexagon is the bestagon.
Now, I love the adaptive cruise.
I tried to convert your efficiency numbers and came up with about 17 kWh / 100 km. I think my Kia Soul 2021 is rated as 15kWh / 100 km.
Agree, we do need more of these impressive Chinese electric cars here in North America
unfortunately, NONE of the China OEMS are Profitable , UNLIKE Tesla.
Why does it not have software updates so it is at the latest version?
Chinese are REALLY bad at Software.

Two: I literally comment that you can configure the climate control to be on the steering wheel
Three: it did not come with a manual, it's a rental.
^Kate
That is actually quite hard for us older, less computer literate drivers...

The big 3 legacy US automakers are so screwed when the Chinese and Chinese-built EVs get here. Despite tariffs, they will come and they are making some great vehicles that Ford, GM, and Stellantis need to figure out how to compete with... quickly.

Beautiful scenery
Having to put the climate control at 25C to make it feel like 20C and dangerous behaviour of LKA at single lane roads are strangely consistent complaints in almost all reviews of Chinese cars, from expensive Nios and Zeekrs to cheap MGs and BYDs, but somehow not Volvos and Polestars.
Very interesting!
It happened to me. Suddenly stopped and I'm guessing it sensed an obstacle on the side because I noticed it sounded the alarm when a pedestrian walks near the front side.
Why do you have the steering wheel on the wrong side? Are you also still using the empirical system?
Imperial
we have the steering wheel on the correct side
Driving on the other side means in times past you would, as a man, use your wife/partner as a shield if attacked. All a bit cowardly. The Imperial system allow you to divide by three, the metric one does not which is a huge unthought out glitch.
This is a Busman's Holiday
Such a useless review. Why would anyone review today a two-year-old car model with a two-year-old software version? Already the 2023 model had a rear wiper, so this is definitely the 2022 model with an ancient software.
Because not everyone buys new?
Hello from Denmark, I am sorry to hear you have all the most known problems with your MG4, the models from 2024 have. rearwiper and new software that worked much better, not the best in the world but no more dangerous situations.

Sees TE Headline- They're selling the MG4 EV in the US....?" ( Establishing shots ) Ohhhhhh....
Interestingly it has a very bad reputation amongst mechanics in New Zealand- despite winning Car of The Year. They question the build quality. I guess time will tell…
Kate, if you wanted a quality MG4, and some respect, you have to learn to use the phrase "Do you know who I am?"
Wow, my Dad owned a 3nd gen ZS EV for a short period and the satnav was dreadful on that. It looks like with this model they made things worse still with those driver assists. A shame as when my Leaf expires one of these would be on my radar with its CCS charging instead of Chademo
Somewhere in MG’s history there was a transition from British made to Chinese made. Sadly, for British pride, the Chinese cars are much better.

The intro all though beautiful and said you in the UK was not informative and a bit to long could have interspersed into the revue instead
All this driver assist tech sounds annoying. It stinks that you can't switch it to "off" by default. Better yet, can you order the car without that feature?
They are required to get the highest ncap rating
FACTUALLY the Tesla FSD v12.5 is 10x better than the MG4 driver assistance.
it can goto anywhere you place a pin.
Nice videography :) but I’m not sure the car is that sexy in a garage
Reviews of the MG4 putting the 'ass' into 'driver assistance' are what steered me away from the MG4 toward Kia's Niro and ultimately EV6 (which is certainly not a compact car, as I would actually wish.) The one downside both cars share is the lack of rear wiper and the (presumably sensible from an aero point of view) rear spoiler, which means that automatic car-wsahes can't get to parts of the rear window.
On the bright side, on the EV6 at least the lane-keeping/holding assistants can be per-trip deactivated using a single on-wheel button.
I wouldn't put too much weight on the opinions of people hopping into a car for a few days on things like driver assists since it takes a few weeks to get used to them
But you could look at all the other comments agreeing the LKA is terrible.

MG introduced a rear wiper into the car not too long after it came on sale, but naturally if you were considering it when it was freshly on sale that wouldn't have made a difference.
