  • We are doing another orange liquor showdown review. We make a red currant cosmo and testing three popular French orange liquors. Cointreau, Grand Marnier, and Pierre Ferrand are all amazing but let's see how much of a difference there is.

I like the touch of sparkling wine. The “Riley Show” has a nice ring to it.

I think you’ve got something here with a sparkling cosmo. It might have a bit more staying power if you add a little bitterness to it to give the drink some grip. I love the idea of the currant syrup.

Agreed. I think I will revisit this cocktail and see how we can make it great. Love the idea of adding bitterness.

Great comparison guys. Sometimes I feel Orange liqueur is kind of pushed aside as not such an important piece compared to other ingredients. I am glad you are making those videos, showing the importance and impact of each ingredient. :@) Cheers guys.

I have to go with Pierre Ferrand!! I love the idea of a red currant cosmo!! Hey, have you guys done a live show lately? I have been a workaholic lately and am behind on my fave TH-cam channels. You both rock! This was fabulous!! :-)

As fun as it is to see comparisons with the classic GM, Coint and PF side by side, in the end they're pretty much apples and oranges :D and not quite interchangable. I kinda have this issue myself, not owning PF at home and when asked upon "dry curacao"...well because neither GM nor Coint. really cover anything dry...THAT said, they make delightfully fun twists (just as seen here!) but in their essence are all completely different products except for the orange base-stuff.
    Also, Cosmos are awesome! 😁

      I totally agree with that.

You're absolutely right! They are all so different! But I like to think we're reviewing the cocktail more than the liqueur/spirit. Because a lot of times a cocktal will call for just "vodka" or just "orange liqueur" so we are trying to help someone making cocktails at home choose from common ingredients. So if someone says, "Ooh! This cocktail sounds really good! But I don't have a lot of options for (or I have too many options for) [insert ingredient here]. Do I need to go buy Grand Marnier if I already have Cointreau at home?" They can make a semi-educated decision.

Have you tried the vintage Cosmopolitan? The raspberry and gin mix is so good.
    Cosmopolitan 1934 edition
    2 oz (60ml) Gin
    ½ oz (15ml) Cointreau
¾ oz (22.5ml) Fresh Lemon Juice
¼ oz (7.5ml) Raspberry Syrup (can play with the ratio depending on the sweetness you prefer)

I made cosmos for my wife and I on the weekend. I liked the grand marnier. She preferred cheap 22% triple sec. She has good taste in men obviously, but not in drinks
But I can look at it this way. More grand marnier for me
