    I've been using Appleton Estate 12 and Plantation Original Dark as of late. For my orange liqueur I've concocted a blend of Grand Marnier (for darker notes) and Clément Creole Shrubb (for brighter notes). I like it.

    I imagine that are all delicious! Considering how much I love the Suit & Tai riff I made recently, something tells me I’d love the Grand Marnier.

    Thanks for the shout out Rob! Those all sound delish! I’ve only ever made mai tais with Cointreau, but now I will have to try it with a cognac based orange liqueur. Great comparison!

      Thanks! :) I love your Orgeat recipe! As a bonus, it has enough almond fat to clarify the Mai Tai without adding anything 😝 … they were all great, very subtle differences but it is interesting to try and it just goes to show that in most cases, oranges liqueurs are totally interchangeable!

    Rob I had to come back to this video and share something with you. You may remeber me mentioning filling a caning jar with Kraken dark rum or Vodka and then adding fresh vanillia beans that you split down the middle to make a home made vanilla extract. Once it sits for a year it's ready however, tonight I opened a jar I started two months ago with the Kraken. I added 1/4 of a teaspoon into my Mai Thai and it made an enourmous difference.
    I used 3/4 oz of fresh lime juice, 1/4 oz of Orgeat, 1/2 oz of Cointreau, 2 oz of Appleton Estate 12year Rum and then 1/4 of a teaspoon of the vanilla rum mix and I have found exactly what I was looking for. I would imagine as that jar ages the vanilla profile will become more apparent. I have two more jars I started with Vodka but the hell with those. My wife can have those for baking. I am going to make several jars of Kraken and I may fill one with a different rum like plantation or whatever and get them started because that is something I will absolutely miss in that drink if I'm out. Game changer.

    • @RobsHomeBar
      @RobsHomeBar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I took your advise about the extract and added it to my vanilla infusions episode I was working on… It comes out tomorrow! ;) I made a vanilla liqueur with brandy … I’m really happy with the flavor

      @@RobsHomeBar Sweet!!! I will check that out. I can't wait until this stuff is a year old. I'm going to make a jar with a couple different rums. I never thought about Brandy. Hey by the way my cart arrived and is in action..lol I hung some cool glasses from it and set it up prety sweet. I need a good mat though. Thinking about going to Old Forester and buying one of theirs.

    Love this, but a Mai Tai orange liqueur taste test without Seniors original Orange Curaçao is missing the thousand pound gorilla in the category. I've tried all of these and Seniors is a whole different, and superior, orange flavor. It specifically compliments the tart acidity of the lime and the richness of the orgeat in a way none of the other liqueurs do.

    • @RobsHomeBar
      @RobsHomeBar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I would love to try Seniors! Sadly it’s not available in my area 😭 …the bottle looks familiar, I’m sure it was listed here long ago but not anymore… cheers friend!

    Did you get to drink all of every one? Grand Marnier is our favorite. Thanks for your kind note last month Rob, we appreciated it as it was a very difficult time. We’re slowly getting back this month. Hope you’ve been well.

    • @RobsHomeBar
      @RobsHomeBar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually I clarified them! Didn’t even need milk, the homemade Orgeat had enough fat content… just dumped them all into a funnel lined with coffee filters and a few hours later, a crystal clear Mai Tai dropped down into a mason jar. I kept it in the fridge for a week so I quick and easy drink!

    I bought the Grand Marnier tonight but was not able to find the Curacao you have. I did grab a bottle of Plantation and have not had it yet either. I love these videos because I really don't know which brands to look for so this is really helpful. Need to grab a Appleton Estate tomorrow if I can find it. I have a bottle of Mount Gay to that the guy at the store said is decent. Trying to gear up for this weekend. My cart I ordered is supose to finally arrive. I wish it had that drawer like yours has. I will just put a small tray in the bottom to hold straws and tools and things. Awesome video Rob. These are so dang handy and right to the point. Quickly has become my go to channel to get recipts and see what to look for at the stores. Good stuff.

    How to Drink did similar research with margaritas and found the choice of orange liqueur and spirit made a significant difference to the flavour, so not only do the different liqueurs affect the outcome but so does which spirit they are combined with. Does how I've written that make sense?

    • @RobsHomeBar
      @RobsHomeBar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea I’ve seen his Margarita Matrix.. haha.. my bar cart isn’t big enough for 28 margaritas 😂 …I did the same orange liqueur experiment with margaritas in February but obviously I used the same tequila for all… it is amazing how small variations can make a big difference.. but at the end.. it’s always subjective and down to personal preference
