    Something to note: Keep in mind that I'm just a normal guy who loves cars. I'm not a trained mechanic, although my father was. If something interesting car wise comes up, I try to film it and upload it for entertainment and the "look at what I done" factor. Pat me on the back, or give me a "good game" pat on the butt. These videos are meant to inspire other DIYers. Working on cars can be dangerous, even life threatening, if the proper cautionary measurements aren't taken. You also run the risk of damaging your vehicle and or voiding your warranty. If for any reason you feel like the job is too big to handle, I would suggest consulting with a professional mechanic.

    Thanks for the sharing. I'm going to use an ebay turbo on 2000 Buick Regal GSE. Right now I have a supercharger, getting ready to replace it with a turbo. I have a Precision TE44, from 2008. I paid over $800 for it then and I had to have it rebuilt Since then, I've put maybe 1k miles on it. I would use it for my build, but I'm a little concerned that a seal is leaking and the rebuild the turbo would cost more than buying an ebay turbo.

    Matthew Chevalier the le2 vs the luv in the cruze turbo charged world is completely different. The 1.4 cruze (18 19) come stock with fully forged internals, they’re direct injection with oversized injectors, bigger displacement, differences bore and stroke, aluminum block and head. And no manifold just a single “port” out the head to a weird t3 flange. What I’m getting at is, I’m looking to get this exact turbo. With it being an extremely easy conversation, is there any tips that would you give for a gen 2 cruze owner with this turbo?

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Adam. My advice for the LE2, because it's so new (hell the LUV, and the LWE/LUW are barely have a ton of support, especially the 1.8 LWE/ LUW and it's taken 10 years for people to really start making aftermarket support) is I would find someone that could CNC an adapter going from the single exhaust port flange to a t3 turbo flange. You could even buy a gasket for the turbo manifold LE2 and a T3 manifold (about $35-$40 for both) 1/2 piece of steel and work your way to blending the two types together. If that makes sense. It can be done, but you have to get creative with it. You will also need to figure out if ditching the stock turbo, what lines you'll be removing ... vacuum lines, PCV, etc and rethink the system to make it work, and / or turn off a few things via tuning. If you want it to be street legal and pass inspection everything will have to function emissions wise as intended.

    • @charleslowe522
      @charleslowe522 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I need to look at that LE2 motor. Never really paid attention to it. I've always been more of an iron block guy, but with new casting techniques and materials I'm sure the aluminum block will hold up just fine.

    • @charleslowe522
      @charleslowe522 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, the LE2 look to be the easier of the two engines to swap turbos. Good luck. You may want to consider running E-85 if it's available in your area. That is if you can tune and unlock the tables.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could. A lot of it depends on if you did a twin setup, or single. These turbos are good for 420-600hp. On a stock waste gate spring, you would be looking at around 8 psi. More than likely a 30-50% gain depending on how it's setup.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The GT35 would work well. Your power band would be in the higher RPMs 5000+. I'm building a max effort engine. The size of the turbo will depend on horsepower goals, and RPM range you want that power.The more you mod a car, the more issues it'll have, but it's part of hotrodding. Whether it's worth it depends on if the mods will make you happy, and if you don't mind wrenching often.

      I would make a new manifold to house the larger turbo. You would need to upgrade to some larger fuel injectors. Semens Deka makes a great set. To keep the reliability, I would opt for some forged pistons with the piston rings gapped properly for more boost. You would also need a tune so the AFR is happy as well. The stock fuel pump is good for up to 300-350 hp.

    First of all a turbo has to have a play!!! This is a journal bearing one and in radial direction when lacking oil it should have play as there is a distance between shaft and bearings that will be filled with oil once the oil pressure gets to the turbo. So ZERO play is not a competent announcement!

    How much horses can you get out of that from 8 to 20 psi

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The T04E is good for 400+ hp. Stock waste gate is set to 7-8 psi which may get you around 200whp. Turn the boost up to it's max, around 21 psi, and you'll be pushing around 350whp. The GT3582 requires an external waste gate, but depending on the spring pressure, and boost controller it'll push 25+ psi and is good for 600+hp. BoostedBoiz have ran theirs up to 800whp on this same turbo on a 2.2l around 9k rpm. Lots of variables to how much power is made. Fuel, pump gas vs e85, and engine size, mods, etc.

    If the Manufacturer gives the option of Water Coolant...It isn't a "suggestion"
    This is a Vital aspect of keeping your Turbocharger From Melting During Use and Engine Shutdown
    And Greatly extends the life of your turbocharger from..A few months to a few Years:)
