    Nice to have a video for free. I can’t afford another subscription TV service. Dulcich was right, back in the 70’s cost was the biggest limiting factor. One they were plentiful the price came down or wages caught up and technology came along to maximize a blown motors potential.

    My 302 pulls 4.5 rpm and has sat at 100 mph for 5 hour's at a time non stop, after 700000 miles I'm taking the heads off for a port and polish and as it ran on LPG the valve guides will be replaced, being newly retired I'm dropping the LPG and efi for a upmarket intake and 4 barrel, as the cost of petrol here is $12 a gallon I'm going to use my still for fuel, it is cheaper to do, thank you for your knowledge and great communication skills I'm inspired to keep going. Not forgetting the team of engine builders and tuners, dyno time :P
      But of course when they say "for cheap", it means you can of course try to find used parts also.. And "for cheap" I guess if you compare to what a prebuilt engine would cost, its still cheap, espeically if you have that sort of engine already.

      You can get a blower kit for an LS motor with a 6/71 and every piece you need to swap it for $4000. In the world of race cars any more, thats cheap. You could turbo it cheaper, but blowers are cool.

    Back in the 70s . I ran a paxton super charger on a 350 chevy . Had to make my own mounting kit .Used a blow through bonnet at first .Solid floats in a holly carburetor . The stock ones collapsed under psi . Fought the fuel psi to boost psi . Finally got my hands on a full carb enclosure .Which equalize the psi of the inside and out side psi of the carb . Changed the pump springs to get 12 psi of boost out of the pump . The 55 chevy pickup ran good after many hours of work . But I did win the battle . I think you can see why in the early days they were not in use very often .

    Boosting is definitely not cheap for the average person. You'll spend thousands of dollars buying a decent turbo or supercharger. But I will say, boosting is the way to go. I personally prefer turbohargers over superchargers. YES, there's a bit of a lag with turbo's. But there's nothing like getting that awesome sound of a turbocharger and feeling the acceleration when your turbo spools up. Awesome content guys, very cool.

    I’ve never heard anyone trash the 5.3 for its bore size. I’m not saying there’s any comparison but that’s always been the argument against the 305 (or bore to stroke ratio but either way...) If you’re starting from scratch by all means go with a 6.0 or 350 but I’m all for doing something cool with what you have.

      Honestly, Chinese turbos (ESPECIALLY cheap ones) are just so inconsistent. One manufacturer can have a wide range of quality control and part-to-part variance. You’re pretty much just gambling on a weather you get a grenade or not. But if you really don’t care about your engines health or reliability, then they’ll do the job. But I wouldn’t bet my life on one.
      And I do understand that there are some decent Chinese turbos, but they still don’t have the same quality as a more thoroughly tested more scrutinized design.

  • @williamrouse3033

    The bigger the motor the more effective a centrifugal supercharger becomes in a straight line race, and its consistent boost is easier to tune. You get the low end from the cubic inches and the boost screaming on the top end.

    Question --- Have you ever built a 4.8 or a 5.3 to boost the low end torque. High rpm horse power is great but what about the 4 x4 vehicles that have anemic torque at low end with these motors. From what I can tell a 85 4.3 LB1 v6 had more torque @2500 rpm.

    superchargers are alway more expensive than turbo, always. Yes, Turbos are not bolt-on and are far more work, so there is a trade-off in cost versus effort. If you don't have the skill to put into the effort, higher upfront costs are for you. Those 4.8L and 5.3L LS motors are great under forced induction or NA with cam/heads/long tube exhaust and will put down respectable power for their displacement. A 5.3L on turbo is just a thing of beauty, though...a Gen IV bottom end will handle some serious shenanigans under boost and live to talk about it.

    Aren't options like Sniper EFI or FiTech Go EFI practically as easy as carburetors? Yes, I know they are a lot more expensive but I would love to see those shown more along with the advantages and disadvantages over carbs and standard EFI systems.

    Can you guys do a video explaining the difference between make a Vortec supercharger and a regular supercharger. I've got a 93 Camaro. It was all blue printed in rebuilt. We could only find supercharger wise back in the day the vortex. Now when you look at one of these they look just like a turbo. Honestly they sound way different to. My Camaros been said it sounds like a jet plane coming. I mean I'm still getting some booze not all the Boost I want I'd rather have 25 or 30 lb of boost this thing puts out 8. I'm cranking over 750 horsepower out of this Camaro. I just was curious I mean why do they look so much like a turbo. I know when forces are in and the other runs off exhaust that's the difference but I was just wondering if you guys could do video explaining the difference. I'd love to put a superchargers on that on the demons and stuff I know that I'd be over 1200 to 1300 horsepower. But I don't think they make them for the LT1. I'm honestly considering pulling this engine out and putting a big block in it with a big huge supercharger on it. Maybe later this year that's what I'll do. But could you explain why they are so different these two kinds of superchargers the Vortech and the regular supercharger

    • @speeddevil3218
      @speeddevil3218 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Horsepower is a result of a mathematical equation. Torque x RPM / 5252= Horsepower
      5252 is a constant so HP and TQ will always be numerically same at that RPM

    An eBay gt45 is like 150$ and will make 5-600 WHP with a few minor upgrades on E85. I think a junkyard 5.3 and a Gt45 and some de-capped injectors are about the cheapest proven combo you can do. The real cash adds up when you start making some power. All the stock parts on your car behind that 500 hp+ motor will get real unhappy pretty quickly. These videos are funny when they say cheap power and then show thousands of dollars worth of aftermarket stuff. At least it looked like a S475 turbo so they are like 600$ give or take and are proven but not the cheapest option if your really on a tight budget.

    Can someone answer this.
    Can an engine obligated in this way will last?
    Because is not the same, testing with ZERO load totally free of pressure, than working under loads, shifting, etc;
    How long would it last before it breaks a piston a rod or even the engine block

    • @rotor13
      @rotor13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      An engine dyno is a loaded dyno.
      Any engine can last for a while as long as you give it good fuel and timing.
      You’re not going to build a 1000hp motor from something that’s been sitting in a junkyard for a decade and sells for less than $500 and expect it to last.
      I’ve built a few of these 5.3 Chevies to nearly 800hp on pump gas with a 74mm turbo. Would last nearly an entire race season plus thousands of miles worth of street racing before I cracked a ring land and had to find another - until I was able to save up enough money to build a proper block for boost making a 1200hp (on race gas, 900hp on pump) LQ4 that became my daily driver

I have in my head that this is a magical building, gleaming of Chrome and oozing HP and TQ and speed parts!! With a room to fit your every fancy for your personal testing desires!! Ha ha
