    Blackmagic update available today that "Adds adjustable audio delay on the analog inputs on ATEM Mini models."

    Mojaxx, I gotta point you at something that's gonna blow your mind. I love Blackmagic, use their stuff every day at work. But the software package called EcammLivePro does everything these boxes do, plus so much more. Link any camera instantly over HDIM and USB. That includes pro DSLR video and STILLS cameras. For real. Old stills cameras can be used as web cams via USB they do not have to be a video based camera, nor do they need HDMI. Full NDI support both as a receiver and broadcaster. It has all the audio controls you could want. Built in graphics engine including tickers, clocks, countdowns. Does countdowns to live events. It sums the inputs to whatever size & frame rate out you want. It plays videos as backgrounds, supports web widgets, sums feedback from multiple platforms into one panel. The list goes on, it's a crazy piece of software. It also manages to do all this using a minimum CPU, GPU & RAM. It of course does virtual cams. It's basically everything I ever wanted OBS to be in a dead simple package. It made me and the company I work for completely rethink our entire livestream and recording pipelines. Love to see what you think of it.

      I brought Ecamm, it is great. But I've just brought and been using the ATEM Mini Pro for 2 weeks (since it was released) and I can now hook up computers and DSLRs to the HDMI inputs and switch between them. With Ecamm I could run 1 DLSR into my laptop, and with Pro Tools or Ableton running, I started running into processing limits on my machine. Ecamm is great, but ATEM mini is much more useful for me. And whilst I've got the option to run the ATEM into Ecamm for extra functions, I don't in order to keep my computer as free from the extra processing as possible.

    Absolutely fantastic overview, the best on YT period. Iv been looking at the Mini for a few months and they are like gold dust as you say, now highly considering the Pro. People are selling the Mini on Ebay for more than the Pro costs. BM please get supply on these sorted.

    Great job on educating those who are not familiar with this tech or are scared to attempt streaming. One thing that has been overlooked by many, though Pioneer had addressed it many years ago, is the fact that DJ's will become more visual at their live gigs. This can definitely up the ante for most DJ's as far as presentations without having a large crew behind them like the big boys. You will be able to put on some type of show/production that looks professional. Although it won't have the intelligent lighting aspect, graphics for your DJ logo or just actually a change of scenery in the background, the money that is used now for streaming can definitely go far for other possibilities visualy for the DJ industry.

    Thank you so much for this video. Finding out about the audio delay and how to fix it was am real gem. I had no idea about the delay as I have been feeding audio currently into the camera from my main FOH console but now want to use a separate audio console feed going directly into the Mini Pro for a better mix of the recorded/streaming sound. The Mini Pro is my choice as I will be recording into an attached USB SSD drive while streaming, and also need the picture in picture feature. The limiter in the audio section is also a great feature I will be utilizing.

    Great video! Thank you for taking the time to put it together. I just purchased the ATEM Mini Pro for my church's live streaming setup. I was planning on using the mic/line inputs but I may opt to have the audio go directly into the camera (Canon XA11) and receive with the video via HDMI.

    FYI!...there is a 4 camera limitation work around. I have a 4K HDMI 4x1 switcher hooked up to input 4. So I have cameras on inputs 1-through 3, and the 4x1 HDMI switcher Box on input #4 (as a sub group)...where I put 2- GoPro's and 2- Panasonic G7's on it, for a total of 7 HD-Cameras Feeds. The only issue is, when I switch through the 4x1 sub-switcher, there's a few millisecond of blackness, as the 4x1 switcher drops one signal and picks up the new selected signal...but I just make sure I have channel 1,2 or 3 on the program feed while I'm selecting the proper camera feed from the 4x1 sub-switcher.

    I've been using the Roland VR-1 on loan. Similar to the ATEM mini pro, a little more expensive (300-400 more), but has more extensive audio capabilities/specs: XLR for 2 mics and proper RCA inputs, hardware audio FX for getting that announcer sheen, and can auto switch between cameras on the beat. Built like a tank...all metal case, big rubber buttons. The big thing it's missing compared to ATEM is the standalone broadcasting and recording.That's a cool feature for laptop users.

    • @JohnHenryDale
      @JohnHenryDale 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the Roland had a standalone encoder, I'd be all about it. But the encoder, for me at at least, is the killer feature that triggered my purchase. I've just seen Wirecast and OBS crash or spike my CPU too many times - even with a separate livestreaming PC - to trust them for consistent livestream connectivity and quality. For DJs and musicians doing solo livestream productions, this is a great stress reliever.

  • @djmacatack
    @djmacatack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Funny thing is I bought a Roland VR-4HD a few years back just to switch video sources with streaming capabilities. Then this came out and I was kicking myself, but I still love the machine and since the video and audio sources go to one place before recording/streaming I never really had to think about the audio lag. I really should test streaming with it though.

    Damn. I do multicam livestream setups for corporate clients. I have a rack case with a power conditioner, an ATEM, a Vaddio Bridge, and a drawer full of adapters (2 DAC-70's & 2 Decimators for scaling, 4 blackmagic mini converters, 2 1x4 HDMI DA's, and 2 1X4 HD/SDI DA/s). All in, about $6,000. This little desktop thingie with the USB webcam output could replace all that for about 75% of my shows. :-|

    • @andinbriwel1092
      @andinbriwel1092 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The audio delay thing might seem like a big oversight to people who don't work in broadcast. For people who have spent their career in broadcast, familiar with the engineering behind it, this little box is seriously nothing less than... well, Black Magic. No joke. Adding a little delay box on the audio is normal practice in broadcast, in fact, you won't have a broadcast setup anywhere without an adjustable delay on the direct program audio feed. I imagine they assumed you'd either feed your audio through your main camera if you're only using one mic, or be feeding from a mixer, in which case you'd be syncing your audio at the mixer's output. Anyway, I'll be surprised if they don't have a delay adjustment added in early on an update, but it'll need to be source-dependent. For example, say you're running 3 cameras and a laptop feeding live video roll-ins as your 4 inputs. 2 of your cameras are a6500's, and the other one is a gopro. The a6500's will have a different frame delay count than the a6500's, and the videos running from the laptop will be already in sync. So, that's where the engineering can get just a little tricky if all your audio is coming through a mixer into the switcher, and you apply one delay time to all.
      A live production switcher with built-in scaling and a bridge encoder built in... just... yeah. It's far more revolutionary than people will ever realize.

Regarding the audio delay issues, can you tell me if the latency would be eliminated if I'm using an XLR mic plugged directly into my camcorder then out to the ATEM Mini Pro via HDMI? Would that bring the audio and video into the ATEM perfectly synced or would I still experience a lag? Thanks again!

    Hi, It was very interesting, your explanation of THE ATEM mini Pro, I bought one,
    As I updated first to version 8.2.1 I m not having the experience of latency that sounds over the 3,5mm ports gives problems. But as you said, using inputs from camera's is actually what I m doing. I have 2 very simple ZOOM Q8 camera's with fantastic audio inputs. And bringing down the cable's, I use Sennheiser XSW-D and XVIVE U3 wireless transmitters/receivers, what works greatly. You're a good teacher 👍😉

      @fokkewdm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I wanna add a new experience, as the ATEM mini Pro is still fantastic, some buttons are very small, my laptop has no touchscreen.
      The solution : I found an app on Android, spent €10 for an upgrade, connected a WiFi router on the lan port of the ATEM M. P. Switcher, and logged in on my router's WiFi. The ip adress is important, but within 10 minutes it was working 😉 all the buttons in the app are programmable, so you can choose any functionality from the atem to a tablet.
      Anyone who has also experience with this ❓
      App from Google play store : METACONTROL

    Mind blowing, and Mojaxx, you're a good educator man.. Please help me understand, whoever is still looking at the comments here. I do get the thing with streaming right out of the Mini Pro (got one on the way) and here's my scenario - I'm wondering if I'll be able to do the following:
    I' want to stream guitar courses through ZOOM - with two camera angles (maybe 3 cameras all together, all with clean HDMI out) and I also want to connect my Mac (or iPad) for some screen sharing/live drawing and so on. I'll need picture in picture of at least 2 cameras (one wide shot and one on the hands...). The ethernet cable is streaming it, Mini Pro's USB is going to the computer to be recognised as a webcam in ZOOM, can I still take the HDMI feed out of the Mac and put it into the Mini Pro's HDMI in?
    And then the ATEM software on the mac - that is now only wifi but on the same network - will I be able to use the Preview on my Mac? Do I need a separate monitor connected to the HDMI out of the Mini Pro?
    I also see the problem with this because I'll still be streaming from the ... computer? ZOOM isn't going _out_ to the ATEM, it's the other way around?
    Thanks so much in advance gys!

    • @Mojaxx

      Depends on the camera. My old GX8 has some auto level thing which means it sounds odd. Some will be absolutely fine (fed mic level). I think an audio delay is the most requested upgrade to the Minis, and I'm sure Blackmagic are hearing it.

    • @IsotonikStudios

      Mojaxx yeah it makes a lot of sense if they can implement it.... audio straight into the Mini would be good... I’ll test with the Canon 5d and see if it’s any good when recorded, that’ll be a half decent test before the unit arrives...

    Great solution for people streaming from a laptop, but if you have a desktop to stream from a Blackmagic decklink quad pcie capture card is a better choice. Using it with OBS, you can do anything the ATEM's can, and way, way more. It gives you the ability to record each video and audio input separately, you can get 4k30 on all inputs for the ability to crop and not lose resolution, & with free (stream deck like) software for your phone/tablet to control OBS with, you even get hardware control. All for less money than the ATEM pro. 100% recommend the ATEM for people streaming from laptops, but for desktops it isn't even close to best bang for your buck.

      That's a very fair point. And for the intended market, I can absolutely see the benefit. But I will say, of all the questions I've fielded in recent weeks, very few of the DJs asking have had Windows desktops. For those looking to go deep into streaming long term, certainly a beefy desktop should be on their shopping list.

    • @ScooterJackson

      @@Mojaxx Definitely. I've got a long love of BM gear and just want people to know all their options. Used the Atem a few times before the world kicked off and it definitely boxed above its weight. I use my studio pc to stream off of, but surprisingly it doesn't take much for a good streaming rig. The multi capture card would be the most expensive part by far. With a single capture like a camlink & a web/action cam over usb, you could build a rig for not much more than the Atem or Decklink quad on their own. Alpha Gaming on here has some good vids on super budget streaming rig builds.

      @Skratchin Jackson - and @Mojaxx I think one of the main selling points for this device - for DJs and musicians at least - is the ability to NOT have to be constantly switching your attention back and forth between a desktop PC and a DJ or performance rig. Also, as an anecdote, I used to work at a very technologically advanced symphonic concert venue and we had several very beefy dedicated streaming desktop machines with Decklink 4k's on them that were exclusively dedicated to that task and what I found, after three years of producing just about every hardware and software variation of livesteamed music shows you can think of, was that:
      A) EVERY computer - no matter how beefy - will fail in some way eventually - usually at the worst moment
      B) While Black Magic's control software is usually great, their drivers are not the most reliable - we were often dealing with problematic driver updates - and while their stuff has a great price vs functionality sweetspot for prosumer and light professional duty, the real pros use AJA and other heavy duty gear for anything mission critical and BM stuff for more of the livestream stuff.
      Having said all that - I think this thing will be perfect for multi-cam DJ and live music set-ups. I'm very interested to see how it plays out in terms of reliability as an encoder because I'm honestly just about done using computers - of any strength - for producing livestreams. It's not IF they'll fail or crash, it's WHEN.

      @@JohnHenryDale 1 tool to rule them all, Stream Deck.. I rarely have to look at anything other than my live chat during streams. All my switching in OBS is controlled by it, and it's functionality is pretty endless at this point. That's with 2 camlinks and 2 usb cams. I've been livestreaming dj sets for 3years, making more than working in clubs. Dayjob I work multimedia IT at a 50k+ student university, after 2 decades of live and post production work. • @JohnHenryDale
      @JohnHenryDale 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skratchin Jackson - - agreed on the streamdeck. I’ve got one and it’s a game changing - I’d even say essential - piece of gear for solo livestream producers. Also just a great macro launcher for computing in general. Not sure what you think I’m not reading or overcomplicating, but your response was about BM decklink being a better value vs. the ATEM Mini pro for desktop streaming rigs and my reply was a counterpoint that, based on my years of experience, i’ve found that even expensive desktop streaming rigs with BM decklinks can and often will fail due to BM’s incessant driver updates. So, while I completely agree that a PC with a BM decklink + OBS obviously offers more recording flexibility and live shot-switching options (especially with a streamdeck) a purpose-built standalone encoder and switcher device like the Atem Mini Pro may end up making up for what it lacks in scene building aesthetics and recording functionality with reliability. Desktop PCs are obviously complex beasts with many other programs and background services competing for CPU and networking resources. A lot of things can and will go wrong, so for your average DJ / musician looking to up their livestream game by offloading their encoding to a standalone device this thing makes a lot of sense. And sorry, but there’s no way even a.super cheap desktop streaming PC with a decklink quad in it even comes close to this thing on price. Decklink quad is 550 (usd) and any desktop with a motherboard you’d actually want to trust is at least that much again, if not twice that price, to say nothing of peripherals.

    Thanks for the comprehensive description! Just got my Mini on Monday. Want to use it for an online class I’m offering so have an iPhone 6S Plus as my Camera #1, Panasonic GX85 on my workspace as my Camera #2, and an 12.9 iPad Pro running Keynote as Camera #3. All these are going out via USB-C cable to my 2017 MacBook Pro. I want to use audio from Camera#1, my iPhone 6S Plus, but have also tried connecting a wired lav mic to audio input #1, as well as a powered wireless mic, bu when I try to record a Zoom session or using OSB, I get no audio. Have tried lots of recommended work around but to no avail. How are you getting audio in your recordings?

      @BillBooz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mojaxx, thanks. No, I get no audio from my iPhone 6S Plus or iPhone XS plugged into Camera #1 port on Mini. I have since gotten several mics to work in Audio #1, however, then I have the frame lag sync issue. I can adjust that by adding 900ms delay in OBS so I can do recordings for YT. Zoom, unfortunately, has no feature like that so to use with Zoom I need to get audio from one of the Camera ports. My Panasonic GX85 has no mic input and when I tried my Olympus E-M5 II, which doesn’t send clean HDMI out, with an external mic, no audio passed.

      One other major feature they omitted with the Atem Mini pro is an audio monitor jack. You can monitor audio via an HDMI screen that has a line-out jack apparently, but that seems crazy to me they couldn't include a 3.5 mm audio monitor output on this box. That can't be fixed with firmware / software updates. I guess maybe the idea is that people are monitoring audio from their cameras or audio interfaces, but given this thing's extensive internal audio / EQ functionality this seems like a major omission.

    • @robtronik
      @robtronik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnHenryDale that seems like a reasonable critique since they added direct streaming via ethernet from the box itself - so maybe a MK2 version will add that. I did like Mojaxx's solution to the audio delay compensation though. I didn't even think of that option.

    Hi, thanks for the presentation
    I was wondering if you could help me make a decision on purchase.
    I shoot a podcast with 4 camera angles, and audio into a rodcaster audio console using 3 mics (one camera is wide angle for all 3 people.)
    Up until now, I've been editing the 4 videos and one audio on a timeline, manually making the cuts before saving/uploading.
    It's tedious.
    If I were to purchase the Mini or Mini pro, how can I handle the audio?
    I only get a poor audio from each in-camera mic usable enough for synching.
    So, the Rode console has a line out... it takes all audio channels and mixes them into 1. Fair enough.
    My question is... if I'm feeding audio from Rode console to the mini/mini pro... dies it affect the switching of cameras?
    Is the audio fed to all the cameras at once?
    Will switching from camera 1 to camera 2 carry the audio from Rodecaster with it, or will it carry the HDMI audio from the camera???
    Thanks in advance.

    • @Mojaxx
      @Mojaxx 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can set the ATEMs to switch audio with video, or not... which is the option you want.
      The setup you’ve described would work great, the only issue might be the discussed required audio delay if you do the audio from the Rodecaster into the ATEM line in.
      3 options. 1: Put Rodecaster through an HDMI, via a camera or whatever. 2: Get something to delay audio. 3: Do live switching with the ATEM and the Rodecaster, then just sync those two in your video editing software. You’ll just have to move the audio a few frames back, quick and easy.
