You can only take one Mac app to a desert island. Which one is it?

8:30 You forgot to mention, that beeper is in a closed beta. I applied months ago, but still wasn't granted access yet.

I use almost all of the Mac apps you listed, but also Drafts, Raycast, Paste, Cleanshot among others.

MacWhisper - Privately transcribe text from video and audio files. Supports multiple languages. If needed, it will also very quickly translate the transcribed text from one language to another. There is a free version and an inexpensive pro version.

I’ve been using Spark for a while now and it’s a beast. The baked-in AI is getting really good too.

I did use Spark for awhile, but I’m a student and it wouldn’t let me sign into my student email while Apple Mail did.

Great video. Would love to use Fantastical but refuse to pay a subscription. Where do you get those grey and black squares you have in the background and on desk??

Hi Mark. Have a question, do you know how power hungry is Beeper? Are even more compared to Sidkick? Don't know if. You know that one? Thank you.

Hi Mark, thanks for another great video. I’ve used (or still use) most of the apps you mentioned. Beeper I didn’t know, sounds interesting. Craft is my favourite note taking app. It looks great, is easy to use and offers a ton of options to create a great PKM system.

It’s Marks view on writing apps which interests me most in this video as this seems to be a bit more of a category than a specific app. First he tells us to use word, then he says don’t use it. I get that people have too much of a reliance on word when there are often cheaper and better alternatives available. I get that Ulysses has its appeal to certain audiences because of its clean interface, but it’s pointless for me to use since it’s subscription based and I wouldn’t get value for money from using it. But my question then is if he isn’t recommending word, why isn’t he discussing apples own pages or another even another alternative? There’s more functionality in pages than some people realise while overall having a relatively clean look

I think it's pretty clear that I'm NOT recommending Word in this one 😉 Ulysses is simply the app that works for me. It definitely isn't for everyone.

Word, and Pages, are word processors. They are for formatting your text more than anything else (of course you can write with them if you want). Writing apps strip most of the interface away to allow you to just write. Many who write for a living don't want to wrestle with a word processor and prefer either a writing app that is streamlined, or something that is to tailored to their specific needs. I used to like using Word to write, but after experiencing Scrivener, iA Writer, and other writing apps, it feels cumbersome to go back to a word processor and write. I will now usually just paste the text I have into them and do the formatting.

I love your videos, however the cuts to the camera behind the camera are always jarring for me completely takes me out of the focus of the video. Not sure why but thought I'd mention it.
