🌟 Here are literally the first 18 things I always do on a new Macbook Pro
Right out of the box there are actually a lot of settings I recommend you DISABLE (e.g. true tone and slight dimming)
Apple thinks they know best sometimes, but they don’t 😏
We then move on to 1-time Finder setting changes that will help you become more productive in the long run
Finally, I end with the 8 Mac apps I always install on new Macbooks that make the Mac experience just that much better!

Huge fan of Default Folders X. Not free but I find it indispensable.

@@JeffSu It's essential to my file management through the Open/Save dialogue window. One area in which it stands out is Opening from or Saving to a file that's in a deeply nested folder. If you have a finder window open to that desired folder, when the Open/Save dialogue box pops up within an Application, regardless of the folder showing in the Open/Save window, you can mouse out of the window, click on the desired folder from the finder and it will instantly appear as the active folder in the Open/Save dialogue box (not sure that explanation helps). That's just one of dozens of features it adds to my work flow. I've been using Default Folder X for so long and it's so ubiquitous to my workflow that It's like muscle memory.
@@hookerrabbit Ahhhh gotcha, that sounds SUPER powerful but I guess it's got a steep learning curve?
@@JeffSu yes and no on the learning curve. Right out of the box you'll find a dozen simple intuitive integrations to your work flow. Then after watching a few videos you'll want to add all kinds of custom group folder functionality (say for a specific project where assets reside in multiple folders). It also sits up in the Apple menu bar and you can easily customize specific folder fly outs and shortcuts for quick access. And I have nothing to do with this app in any way other than being a huge fan.
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for creating such a helpful video on the "FIRST 18 THINGS TO DO" with a new Macbook Pro. Your clear and concise instructions were incredibly useful for someone like me who is not very tech-savvy. Your video made the process of setting up and customizing my new Macbook Pro a breeze!

A few suggestions for customizing macOS:
* Settings - Accessibility, Trackpad, enable 3 finger drag
* Settings - customize the menu bar clock and turnoff AM/PM and day of week
* Control center - hide spotlight from menu bar (no need to see it), and move power icon to control center vs menu bar
* Finder settings - turn on or check the option to keep folders on top vs mixed with file names
* App - Use the Bartender app to hide extra icons and customize the menu bar

Wouldn't recommend this one to users who is already used to 3 finger desktop swap.

How you put folders in the top?

@@JeffSu Yeah, first Mac; M2 Max MacBook Pro 16” (30 core GPU / 32GB unified / 1TB SSD). I initially wanted the 14”, but I’m not going to rely on external monitor(s) too often, so the extra inches makes a difference to me. The M2 Pro probably would’ve been enough, but I couldn’t resist the few extra benefits of the (base) M2 Max. My wallet keeps stink eyeing me from the corner of the room, though.

One think I was able to take away was reducing the time for the taskbar to appear on my windows pc (by unticking the animation toggle) - certainly improved that experience and give me that vital slither or space back! Haha keep up the great work - simple, straight to the point videos, with a dash of humour.
Will definitely be using your tips to improve my excel dashboards at work - the trouble is always getting others to put the data in correctly!

I use tags in a smart folder on the dock for project files. Super fast to load and independent of where the files are stored.

Great Vid! I want to add the Mos app which enables you to set custom scroll directions independently of the input device. I used to use ScrollReverser but it had a few bugs for M1s so switched to Mos. Cheers!

For hot corners, you can press option, shift, or control before selecting it and it will add the respective button as a prerequisite to activate the hot corner

@@JeffSu Show scroll bars always, rearrange spaces on most recent use, activating hot corners accidentally, calendar settings, showing path and status bar, the finder settings. Most of all searching for a document settings. It was driving me nuts that it could never find files I knew were in documents but would only find random irrelevant app support files. Anyways, I pretty much followed all your settings and it's a game changer for productivity. Much appreciated!

Wow, that set service order and changing to ethernet solves my issue of having to turn wifi on every time i want to aidrop something from my ipad or iphone to my imac. I have always kept wifi off, except while using airdrop, because wifi was being prioritized over ethernet, which is always plugged into my imac. That was an AWESOME tip!

A good way to avoid hot corners is when you choose from the options, click and hold Command key, then select your hot corners, so you only triggered them when wanted

For an M1 Pro/M2 Pro/M3 Pro 14", what is the resolution for 'More Space' in the Display Settings? I'm using a 13" M1 currently and it's 1680 x 1050. Looking to upgrade but want to know what the actual difference on screen will be with the improved resolution and size
Raycast is another alternative to Alfred which I think it's a combination of both the Spotlight and Alfred :)
