Hi I am usually skeptical about TH-camrs reccomendation of productivity app cuz they are all paid but I am so impressed with how you take note of that and gave multiple legit reccomendations that I personally use as well! Great job Jeff!!

yeah, because the dude has an actual career. Not doing TH-cam thinking he is a smartass just for that (pointing at all tech youtubers without any tech knowledge, degree or career).
I just wanted to say thank you for the Monitor Control recommendation. I got my first monitor and the dance to adjust brightness is sooooo annoying. I'm a software nerd too but I've been so lazy to find a solution. I nearly cried tears of joy when I downloaded it and IT WORKED!!! No more eye strain. Thank you!!!!
I recently switched from Alfred to Raycast, and I love it. The ability to create extensions using React with good system API’s and documentation got me sold. The eco system might be lacking a bit compared to Alfred, but given enough time I think it will surpass it.
I've been where you are my friend! I just watched a few of your videos and honestly the apps you picked are awesome! I think some small things you might want to take into account is adding timestamps in the description and linking the apps as well, so it's more viewer-friendly :)
I love this! As someone who has switched between macOS and Windows myself, I love that you’ve found Mac apps that take all the fan favourite Windows features and bring them to us on macOS. Thanks for the video!
MacOS can do almost everything that cleanshotx does. Cmd+Shift+3 and you can annotate, if you cmd+shift+3 and than press spacebar, you can also make a beautiful screenshot of specific window with transparency and rounded corners.
I suggest using cmd+shift+4 so you can drag a rectangle (3 shoots the whole screen at once) when you press ctrl while releasing the mouse the shot lands in the clipboard (not as file on the desk) when you press spacebar you can select a window you‘re hovering over. when you press spacebar AFTER having started to drag an area with the mouse you can move the area around. annotations and drawings are also possible, the only two things that macos can‘t do: -upolad to cloud - pixelate areas in the shot
This video is AMAZING! I ended up downloading Monitor Control to use with my LG external monitor, which I never found a way to control the brightness with but by using the actual buttons on the monitor, until now. Thanks so much. I also wanted to download Moom, but ended up installing Rectangle instead because it was free. I've been using macOS for more than 10 years now and I don't know how I was able to go along without such an easy way of resizing app windows. Definitely subcribed!
I recently switched to mac from a lifetime of windows and your series of mac apps/tips have saved my life (i.e. very much made the transition more seamless than I expected). Still have some transition pains, but your suggestions are on point and are actually things that I wanted to download immediately, compared to some other videos I’ve found. Anyway, love your humour and presentation style. Followed your channel a couple days ago when I first watched your videos, but I enjoy them so much that I’ve been coming back to them and watching your other ones as well. Thanks for these great vids :)
Just FYI MacOS regular screenshot tool has the feature that lets you take those pictures of a window with the shadow or any menu element like a Dropdown-Menu and stuff like that. Just press space after you hit the selective screenshot shortcut. The icon on you mouse will change into a camera icon and any window or distinct menu element can just be clicked to screenshot that way. (That being said I think the app is more about the notation features which seems great. Stood out to me that this is a native feature, is all. And it’s a tip I had to learn that is super useful in certain situations.)
To complement Hans' hint regarding native snapshots of a window pressing the space bar: - pressing Control while clicking the window will send the capture to the clipboard instead of saving it to a file - pressing Option while clicking the window will take the capture WITHOUT the shadow surrounding the window

Hi Jeff, I've been a Windows user/gamer for decades and finally got a newish Macbook Pro after getting along with an older iMac for years just to keep up with what Apple is doing. Windows might have the best gaming platform and Office suite but Mac is certainly pretty good for everything alse. It's awesome how there's so much good freeware now to tweak and optimise the OS. It's actually catching up to Windows and I dare say doing it more stylishly. Yours is one of the best channels I've found that lists and describes the best apps, tips and tricks. @@JeffSu Yes, the M1 is indeed a powehouse! I still mostly use Windows admittely, (I have 28 in the office and another 5 around the house) as well as linux and now the MB pro. One can never have too many computers right?! 😂

Thank you for creating productivity tips and content. I love your videos because they are super fun and insightful, and you do a great job simplifying the learning.
4:17 You should mention here that Moom offers the option to save the arrangement of multiple apps on multiple monitors and then call them up again with a shortcut as long as the apps are open. When everything is messed up, I use a shortcut to hide all the windows, then I use my Moom shortcut to restore my favorite setup of windows. Love it.
Great video as always! You missed a really big feature of Cleanshot, IMO (one of the only reasons I've been looking at buying it) - scrolling screenshots. Being able to capture more than what is currently on the screen in a still image without having to try to combine multiple images together is such a game-changer.
congratulations Jeff. You are officially the first person for whom I have turned on notifications, and set them to all. only three youtubers have gained this privelage, but you are the first for whom I have set it to show all notifs. the rest are all set to personalized. Wooohoooo! It was a tough week but thanks for making my evening Akhil! that's AMAZING to hear. Now I just gotta continue making (even) better videos! Is Spark free or Paid? I should check it out
@@JeffSu no problem Jeff! I'm sure your content will only get better as time goes on! Spark has both a free and paid version, but the free version is amazing. The paid version only adds team functionality such as private chats on a per-email basis, and automatic forwarding or cc'ing. The best thing about it is, it has a auto-categorization API that works far better than gmail's one, and has group "mark as read" and mass deletion functionality. You should use it for like a week, it is amazing.
Surprised better touch tool wasn't mentioned. I love it and it has a built in great clipboard manager and great window snaping, along with a million other features. It is paid but there's a 45 day free trial if you want to try it out. I really do love it and I feel like it's made me so much more efficient.
This is a great video. I’ve seen so many videos like this over the years and only ever caught one or two new apps to try out. Literally every single app in this was new to me and can’t wait to try it out. Thanks Jeff!
Wow I'm glad to hear it Itty! Honestly I thought most people would just take away 1-2 apps from this video. Don't overwhelm yourself though, I recommend using 1-2, getting very familiar with them, then adding more 😁
OMG this AltTab app totally saved me!!! I tried searching for this a lot when I started using Mac but never found a free good option. Thank you for sharing!
Another great video, Jeff ! I love Cleanshot X & Alfred (can't wait for a video on that one!). Will check the other apps for sure! Thanks for everything!
Hey Jeff 👋 Thanks for sharing ! On my side I’m using Alfred for a loooong time and it’s very powerful so I’m curious to know how you are using it 🙄 In my top 5 apps on my Mac : bar tender 4, it’s allow me to clean up the menu bar See you next week ✌️
Okay now I'm worried you know more about Alfred than me so my Alfred video will be useless 😰. Yes Bartender will be featured next week and I heard a free alternative to be Dozer? Or even Vanilla
Hi Jeff alfred video would be great and I have one more request, please you could make video about pdf readers. I really like reading on google play books and automaticly created files of annotated and highlighted part but I could not find an app has these features for mac, iPad etc. so far. Have you any suggestions?
To be honest, I REALLY recommend buying Alfred's PowerPack. I've had it for a few months now and can't live without it. 🙂 Thanks for all the tips, Jeff!
Wow love the alt tab... Instead of Alfred I like raycast even more bc it has many of the paid features there for free and a inbuilt window manager (like moom)...
+1 on this one! Ever since I found Raycast i stopped worrying whether I'll lose something. Just copy it and you can always find it in your clipboard history, plus it's free 👌
Hey Jeff, loved the video, even though I use a lot of these apps already. Alt-tab was a saviour. I have tried Alfred in the past, but simply could not get myself to learn all of its features. maybe spotlight search does everything I need. As you suggested, a video highlighting what Alfred can do over Spotlight for users (I am sure it is loaded), would be an absolute gem
@@JeffSu Update: I moved to Raycast and it is GOOD. Community supported plugins are great, and it is fairly responsive and has great keyboard shortcut support.
@@JeffSu Plus it is fully featured, and free for individual users 😁. Plus the fact that their own API is well documented, third party app integration is growing and has quite a few useful ones, even for my development workflow, where I search for packages, lookup documentation which would normally a google search - but now, since there are integrations in to web apps and since rendering is within Raycast, I don't have to go via a web browser route. True, this does not work for all extensions, but enough to keep me on the same window and do a lot of things.
All Good! Just one quick improvement there. You don't have to actually bind any key to copy a screenshot to clipboard. Just hold down the control key while taking the screenshot. It will copy to your clipboard in opposed to saving it to the disk.
Loving all the tips! Amazing app - my favorite is Cleanshot X and numi - totally boost up my workflow by 2000%! Would love to see a deeper explanation for Alfred... Have had this app for ages but never got used to it.
The native screenshot features of MacOS does 99% of the CleanShot X features. But that 1% is the blur feature which is worth the bucks since I use a lot of sensitive screenshots in our app where you want to blur customer or personal data before sending it out 🙂
Thanks Jeff. Really useful stuff. There is a Mac inbuilt way to copy a screenshot to the clipboard. CMD + Shift + 4, then hold down Ctrl while you snip it. Cheers
Rectangle for window management, I got used to the swipe gestures for viewing multiple windows and Raycast, which I think is overall better than Alfred now(although I do love Alfred) because of the way they implemented their extensions feature
@@JeffSu they’ve got a built in store in the search, but you can also just check out the extensions on their site. I gave it a good spin for a couple weeks before making the decision to move and it’s been great
Thank you Jeff for sharing these apps. I used to be amazed by Alfred until I found Raycast there is free and has a lot of features, I can customize my own scripts and use extensions created by the community. I love how it integrates with some of the apps that I use daily for productivity, like Todoist. It would be really awesome to watch a video with your opinion about Alfred vs Raycast
@@JeffSu I would love to hear your take on Alfred and Raycast. I find Spotlight to be remarkably powerful and haven't jumped into the world of Alfred yet, but I am always intrigued. Specific use cases would be valuable to see.
Hi there. About numi and alfred. There is workflow for alfred that allows you to do numi calculations right in alfred :) So, you wont need to switch apps just to convert some currency or get time)
@@JeffSu Yes! Or you don't even have to select the app. Just press ctrl+cmd and move your mouse cursor to left, right, up, or down on top of the app and it will move.
@@JeffSu Yep, might be more applicable on Ipad OS but I'm sure theres some overlap on IOS too. With all your conversations with Tim Apple I see in your vids I'm sure you have a few tricks up your sleeve haha

"I love working at my company, but we are (sigh) very American-centric" - that sigh was really amazing 😂 By the way, I agree with you. How can America adopt such metrics different from the rest of the world? 🤪😵💫
I know CleanShot X is veeery similar to the native mac screenshot tool but there was always something that bothered me about it. I was literally this week thinking about trying to find a better screenshot tool and for me the pinned screenshot, ability to choose between saving and copying with a button and the beautiful annotations were a win for me. I downloaded the tool without thinking twice after your video, you should get a commission for that ahhahaha
Alfred changed the way i used the Mac. The fact that Numi can be integrated with it makes it so powerful. As a developer I also use snippet lab (intégration with Alfred also👍), which leveled up my work flow

Long time user of Rectangle and I can confirm that you can move windows between screens. I originally used a different tool for this and once it became no longer maintained by the devs I moved to Rectangle which allowed me to use all of the keyboard shortcuts from the old app so there was zero learning curve. Great app.
Thanks for the video as always, Jeff! Loved the shots you used in your intro! Psst, any potential love (video) for Windows in the future? I don’t have a Mac, unfortunately, and I feel some of your other viewers might be in the same boat 😂 That Moom app looks really useful though! If only Mac apps worked on Windows 😭
@@JeffSu its perfect in everyway. Now if only there were default keyboard shortcuts in the Mail app so i can quickly move messages to specific folders. I know there are some other programs out there to check, but just wish it would follow's Outlook's way.
Spectacle instead of Moom. Is free. Just press CMD+OPT+Arrow to snap top/bottom/left/right. Repeating the same command will vary the window size 1/3, 1/2, 2/3.
@@JeffSu it's very basic but does the job. I just remembered it can also center your window. Drawback would be that the shortcut may overlap with some other app specific shortcut (I vaguely remember happening to me but was ages ago - also you can personalise your fav combo)
For the clipboard part, you can also save an area to your clipboard by holding ctrl while printing. cmd + shift + 4, select an area, then press ctrl and release your mouse
@@JeffSu On that we agree! But my work computer doesn't allow me to install many things, so we gotta work with what we get. But I didn't know Shottr and might get it to my personal pc.
For multiple applications shortcuts how do you remember all of them for each program & software you use. Do you keep a little document of shortcuts to reference for each software/program?? Thanks! great video
Ah good question. Honestly at this point it's muscle memory. For example I know what to type/press but if you asked me to tell you what buttons I'm pressing I might not be able to answer haha 😂
i use STEER MOUSE to program the buttons of my mouse, it has 12 assignable buttons, and the buttons can even be changed depending on the app that is open at that moment. this saves me so much time, worth every penny a million times!!! you can even do makros, so on a mouse button, i could have the function to copy a text, open a new tab, wait 1 second, paste the text, press enter...
I wish one of you guys would get into the best Mac tool ever, Keyboard Maestro. It’s basically a macro tool that can…anything. Literally. Run scripts, executed any step I could want executed, click on found images on the screen (or save their found or not found state to a variable so i can do something if the image I need is not on screen), and so on. I could not run my life without Keyboard Maestro.

I really like reading on google play books and automaticly created files of annotated and highlighted part but I could not find an app has these features for mac, iPad etc. so far. Have you any suggestions?
for PDF readers have you checked out my Microsoft Edge video?
To be honest, I REALLY recommend buying Alfred's PowerPack. I've had it for a few months now and can't live without it. 🙂
Thanks for all the tips, Jeff!
You're very welcome! Alfred video coming up in a few days 😁
I haven't seen you before. I'm 35 seconds in on the video. But heck. I'm subscribing. What an intro! What a soundtrack! What's it called?
Glad to hear it, welcome! It's a random track I found on epidemic sounds: www.epidemicsound.com/referral/22h547
Wow love the alt tab... Instead of Alfred I like raycast even more bc it has many of the paid features there for free and a inbuilt window manager (like moom)...
Oh really? I should give it a try!
+1 on this one!
Ever since I found Raycast i stopped worrying whether I'll lose something. Just copy it and you can always find it in your clipboard history, plus it's free 👌
From a windows user using a Mac, that alt tab app is very helpful! Thanks man!
I know right?? It's pretty awesome 😁
Will do my friend 😁
@@JeffSu Update: I moved to Raycast and it is GOOD. Community supported plugins are great, and it is fairly responsive and has great keyboard shortcut support.
@@MrProximace dam I’m so curious now
@@JeffSu Plus it is fully featured, and free for individual users 😁.
Finally Monitor control, I'm in love. Great video man I hope you are fine with the situation there.
Thank you Andrea! So you use Monitor Control as well??
Pls do a detail video on alfred, have installed and uninstalled it multiple times as have never got around setting it up
Would like this too, been too busy to set it up lately but eventually I'll take the time to figure it out.
Trust me I've been there my friends! Will do 😁
Finally I can alt tab to a specific window. Thanks for the great find with AltTab, loving this app!
I know right??? I was so happy when I first came across it too 😁
Let’s go jeff! I’m ready for this one haha
Hope it didn't disappoint!
@@JeffSu Very good brother as per!
All Good! Just one quick improvement there.
You don't have to actually bind any key to copy a screenshot to clipboard.
Just hold down the control key while taking the screenshot. It will copy to your clipboard in opposed to saving it to the disk.
Awesome tip, thanks for sharing!!
Loving all the tips! Amazing app - my favorite is Cleanshot X and numi - totally boost up my workflow by 2000%! Would love to see a deeper explanation for Alfred... Have had this app for ages but never got used to it.
Will do Namika 😁
The video I needed!. Thank you very much. I just change to MacOS for my notebook and I was a little bit lost.
I've been where you are my friend! Definitely took some getting used to but I really do enjoy being "stuck" in the Apple ecosystem haha
The native screenshot features of MacOS does 99% of the CleanShot X features. But that 1% is the blur feature which is worth the bucks since I use a lot of sensitive screenshots in our app where you want to blur customer or personal data before sending it out 🙂
Well and the uploading + hyperlink 😅
Plus annotations, too limited in MacOS
Flameshot doesn't do screen recording but as far as I can tell, it does everything else that CleanShot X does
Hey Jeff, first YOU ARE THE BEST! Second, more of this please.
Thank you
Thank you! Make sure to come back next week 😉
An alfred video would be nice ;)
Will do Julian 😁
Thanks Jeff. Really useful stuff. There is a Mac inbuilt way to copy a screenshot to the clipboard. CMD + Shift + 4, then hold down Ctrl while you snip it. Cheers
Got it, thanks for sharing Amila 😁
alfred 4 video please
Will do! It's in the pipeline 😁
yo clean shot x is mad! I never thought I needed more accuracy for screenshots haha
Yea it's awesome!! One of the few apps I happily pay for!
Rectangle for window management, I got used to the swipe gestures for viewing multiple windows and Raycast, which I think is overall better than Alfred now(although I do love Alfred) because of the way they implemented their extensions feature
How does Raycast implement their extensions feature? I'm so curious now haha
@@JeffSu they’ve got a built in store in the search, but you can also just check out the extensions on their site. I gave it a good spin for a couple weeks before making the decision to move and it’s been great
alttab was so useful and so under-talked about!!! thanks
I know right?? You're very welcome 😁
I've never used Raycast but wow it sounds great!
@@JeffSu I would love to hear your take on Alfred and Raycast. I find Spotlight to be remarkably powerful and haven't jumped into the world of Alfred yet, but I am always intrigued. Specific use cases would be valuable to see.
@@AlexHerder Now I definitely have to make that Alfred deep dive video!
Thanks for mentioning about Raycast!
Hi there. About numi and alfred. There is workflow for alfred that allows you to do numi calculations right in alfred :) So, you wont need to switch apps just to convert some currency or get time)
Wait seriously? I gotta check it out!! 😁
Always love your style, and the effort you out while making these videos!
Literally, as soon as a new video comes, I can't wait to watch it!
Wow that's awesome to hear Aveeraj, thank you 😁
+1. Thank you Jeff! 😊
Hi Jeff! Thanks for sharing.
I would love an entire tutorial on Alfred!
You're welcome! Will do 😁
Great list! Although I think Rectangle Pro is way better than Moom, mainly due to the ability to use mouse flicks to snap the apps.
Like literally "throw" an app window into a snapped position? 🤯
Same here
@@JeffSu Yes! Or you don't even have to select the app. Just press ctrl+cmd and move your mouse cursor to left, right, up, or down on top of the app and it will move.
Awesome! Thanks Jeff.
Do you have the link of this wallpaper ??
I found it on wallhaven.cc/!
Hey, did you find the wallpaper?
@@fynn2895 Search for "gradient" haha

Great video Jeff, really enjoyed the more tech centric video in this one! Maybe a productivity app/workflow tips on IOS would be a cool idea!
You mean on the iPhone? or iPad?

@@JeffSu sorry I just Note for myself
I know CleanShot X is veeery similar to the native mac screenshot tool but there was always something that bothered me about it. I was literally this week thinking about trying to find a better screenshot tool and for me the pinned screenshot, ability to choose between saving and copying with a button and the beautiful annotations were a win for me. I downloaded the tool without thinking twice after your video, you should get a commission for that ahhahaha
Hahahaha so the developer kindly reached out to me thanking me after this video, but no commission 😭
If you use the Mac screenshot tool, you can press Command + C immediately after taking any screenshot to copy it. Not a lot of people know that.

anyone know what monitors he has?
Sam question
Those are Apple XDR monitors he got it for heavy discount. He explained the desk setup in another video. Check his playlists
So glad I saw this to learn about Monitor Control ... I NEEDED THIS SO BAD!
Alfred changed the way i used the Mac. The fact that Numi can be integrated with it makes it so powerful.
As a developer I also use snippet lab (intégration with Alfred also👍), which leveled up my work flow
That's great to know! I'm checking out the alfred x numi workflow right now haha

Hey Jeff,
Great video as usual ! I’m very interesting to see how you use Alfred !
Will do! It's in the content pipeline 😁
Pro Tip: If you need Alt+Tab, then you have no idea how to use a Mac and you need to spend some more time learning it.
Oh how so? 😁
Long time user of Rectangle and I can confirm that you can move windows between screens. I originally used a different tool for this and once it became no longer maintained by the devs I moved to Rectangle which allowed me to use all of the keyboard shortcuts from the old app so there was zero learning curve. Great app.
I started using Rectangle hahahaha

Great video! Thanks for putting it together Jeff. As a recent Windows convert, I got a lot out of this. Much appreciated.
A fellow ex-windows user! Welcome 😁
Thank you! Really big help! I will love to watch full tutorial of Alfred.
You're very welcome Julie! Will do 😁
Thanks for the video as always, Jeff! Loved the shots you used in your intro!
Psst, any potential love (video) for Windows in the future? I don’t have a Mac, unfortunately, and I feel some of your other viewers might be in the same boat 😂
That Moom app looks really useful though! If only Mac apps worked on Windows 😭
If I ever build another PC, I'll make those videos as well 😁
Oooh looking forward to it then if that does happen! :o
@@andrea_dong me too 😂
Fantastic. Really useful! Alfred alone was worth watching the video. Snappy presentation makes it fun, too. Keep them coming!

this is awesome. Helped a lot since I’m coming from a lifetime windows user
Glad to hear it Igor!! 😁
Awesome video Jeff!
Thank you David!!! 😁
For years, I've been complaining to Apple about the Alt+tab usage, downloading that app asap.
Let me know if that's what you wanted!
Thanks for sharing! I should check it out! 😁
@@JeffSu it's very basic but does the job. I just remembered it can also center your window.
Drawback would be that the shortcut may overlap with some other app specific shortcut (I vaguely remember happening to me but was ages ago - also you can personalise your fav combo)
Love the video! Could you please make a video on best practices to use logo Options for both mouse and keyboard?
Logi Options you mean? I honestly just keep it simple and changed only the hotkeys on the mouse
One of the best videos on TH-cam, I will give a try of these apps
Awesome, let me know how it goes Gerardo 😁
For the clipboard part, you can also save an area to your clipboard by holding ctrl while printing.
cmd + shift + 4, select an area, then press ctrl and release your mouse
Yes! I just find Cleanshot (or Shottr as a free alternative) to be more powerful than the default screen capture tool 😁
@@JeffSu On that we agree! But my work computer doesn't allow me to install many things, so we gotta work with what we get.
But I didn't know Shottr and might get it to my personal pc.
@@Edyuto Nice!

Wow I should check that out! Thanks for sharing Rafael!
@@JeffSu thanks to yiou as well, already digging Alfred and maccy :)
