    I think Retro described the typical A1up fan perfectly when he confessed that he felt blinded by nostalgia when he bought A1ups. A1up has never really had a “good” product especially one that is justified at full retail price but people are mostly sold on the nostalgia of these classic games rather than the actual product. Nostalgia has always been a very good seller for any product and A1up is all about selling people on nostalgia rather than quality. It’s why I bought MK cabs from A1up at first, as a huge MK fan I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity of a home MK arcade cab even though I knew some of the issues with their cabs. It’s good to see more people growing out of that nostalgia blindness and starting to see the real losses they’ve taken on buying these A1up cabs. But it’s also a shame that some people seem to knowingly excuse the numerous issues that taint the arcade experience on these A1up cabs because they are so sold on that nostalgia

      to each their own. in the video he said iircade was better than a1up. there are only three games I would play in their catalog I would actually play and none of them are worth the price of their machine. @games has a pretty good machine only because you can mod them easily. arcade one up has a lot of problems, but I enjoy the ones I have. If they sold the units at a cheaper price that would be better. but If I was to upgrade It would be with an actual arcade machine. I also wouldn't sell a used product I thought was worthless for almost more than they were going for. but I guess we all gotta get our scam on.

    I have similar feelings. I rarely touch my A1U cabs. I got extremely lucky & found someone locally selling a Tiny Arcade Machine from the UK. The machine was easily $2k, but I got it for $700. It is PC-Based with the HyperSpin front end. No delay whatsoever & has over 4K games on it with real Sanwa controls and high-end buttons, plays pinball too. I’ll probably sell my A1U cab in the future. Once you have a properly built Multicade, everything else looks & plays like crap.

      Drives & Details - Would your model happen to be similar in size to the Elite 117 RAC from Tiny Arcade? That one is 18.7" (477mm) wide. If so, how's playing versus? Are you cramped for space with player 2? I want to place the order for the 117 and the only thing holding me back is the width of the controller deck.

    I think the arcade1up cabs are good for modding, and great for small spaces. The tech that comes with arcade 1up cabs are garbage for sure. But if you can find a cheap cab for under 300 dollars, you can mod it, add your own games, monitor and controls....the legend cab is very good since you can add Xbox controllers and stuff like that. I have an old original Xbox which has been modded with coin-ops and that is an amazing system. Alternatively you could cobble up a makeshift can that is custom built to your needs for under 1000 dollars. It all depends on what you want in the end. Arcade 1up cabs have a place in the market place. They are easy to build, give you that nostalgia feel, and can be modded too. They probably are not built to last, but Id you treat them with care, they will last you a long time. I think the main thing which does seem to get much talking is the space needed to house these things. Space is tight and having something like this is a luxury. That needs to be appreciated.

    Over in the UK we have limited acces to Arcade 1Ups, though it is getting better with more cabs being made available. Space will ultimately be my limiting factor....I have space for only one more 3/4 size. Which is why the Atgames Legends Ultimate was such a good buy.....I currently have hundreds of games on it. I personally want a room that feels like an arcade: multiple games running at once with a lot of variety. For me, A1Up fits that bill. A 3/4 scaled game for $300 is perfectly reasonable, for me, given I could spend that much on a single concert ticket or a steakhouse meal for 3. On the other hand, I original arcade game for $1-3K would be cool in a room with a pool table and jukebox, but that is a completely different feel.

    You indicated that there are plenty of turnkey solutions that are an alternative to an Arcade1Up, but this is only a turnkey solution because someone else bought a kit and configured it. The person that you purchased this from put their own PC in it and their own games and configured the interface. The average consumer of an Arcade 1 Up cabinet would not be able to create this from the kit that’s available from Micro Center. They would have to be fortunate enough to find someone near them that has done the same type of configuration and is willing to sell it at the time when they are looking. The total cost for the previous owner to create this was at least double if not triple the cost of an Arcade1Up cabinet.

    I started with buying a clearance Simpson's and modding it. I really only wanted one cabinet to play all games and I've always wanted a full size Simpsons machine but the people who make the replicas wanted close to $3k for them and the guy who's local wouldn't mod the control deck to have more than the 2 stock buttons so a ton of the included games couldn't be played which made no sense. So figured the A1Up was a good size for a spot in my living room. I added a mini pc, the 20" dell upgrade, lcd marquee and built my own larger 4 player control panel with 6 buttons for each player as well as trackball and 1 spinner.
    fast forward a few months to when Sam's put the Legends on clearance, I bought 1 of each. The Mini is okay, I set it up permanent vertical with Coinops vertical build. It is just small and feels cheap and wobbly. The Ultimate full size feels so well made and I love everything about it so far. The Legends Pinball is great too. As long as the stuff lasts and doesn't have quality issues, the Atgames was a better choice for me even though the styling isn't as nice as arcade1up. Also I find atgames really overcharges people on their upgrades prices, like that bitlcd will cost me almost as much as I got the cabinet for

    Definitely a step up man. I think you made the right choice when comparing it to the legends cab. The legends one leaves much to be desired in the looks department, yours looks great I think. Running that PC in there is gonna make all the difference when playing the harder to emulate stuff like 64 or Naomi. Doubt you would ever be able to get either of those systems and many others emulated on the legends. Real t moulding and 3/4" MDF! I watched a vid on the killer instinct pro cab and both those were absent. They are also still using bad joysticks and switches so no lessons learned there I guess. Why change the business model if your target market either doesn't know the difference or will aggressively defend the garbage you produce either way. One things for sure no free review products from 1up are in your future lol. Adding a gun 4ir to that cab would really take it to the next level imo.

    I designed mine but had a cabinet maker build me the Arcade machine a year ago and bizarrely it’s not to dissimilar to yours actually!
    Black textured MDF with lime green trims as yours but my marquee sits at the right angle.
    My layout is not the conventional 6 or 8 button layout either.
    My cabinets is also single player only with 2 joysticks (Robotron) as well trackball and spinner and is a PI4 running Retropie.

    This is great! No doubt about it. But one thing I rarely hear people bring up is that even though you can re-create your own perfect cabinet, running which ever games you want, nine times out of 10 they are not officially licensed or legally obtained. I know this is a gray area for many, but honestly, this is the main reason why I have tried to stick with Arcade1Up (as frustrating as they can be) because they are officially licensing the games used. I would love to make an entire arcade room of custom cabs running exactly the games I want using newer hardware, but I am stumped with this whole licensing issue.

    • @show-me-retro
      @show-me-retro  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don't lose any sleep on licensed vs unlicensed games anymore. Especially if A1up puts out a crappy running officially licensed version. I definitely see your point but it influence my decisions anymore whether or not the games are licensed. Appreciate the comment 👍

    • @RetroFett
      @RetroFett ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But hypothetically, if someone bought a replica jukebox machine, with beautiful pseudo neon lights, a retro looking "turntable", and loaded with 1000s of ripped songs from CDs that were never legally purchased, am I in a "gray area"? Regardless of the quality of the jukebox, the songs were still illegally obtained and loaded onto the jukebox, no matter how much I paid for the jukebox itself.

    • @castleranch738
      @castleranch738 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RetroFett that's fair and I understand the example. But, I'd probably load my own ripped copies of music I've purchased. Same with this type of multi-cade, I would load up the ROMs for games I already own and that would play well on that style of cab except for when it comes to the arcade ROMs, not sure what I would do unless buying version on other systems would suffice or the actual arcade PCBs? The licensed art is also something that obviously Arcade1Up has to pay for whereas the average consumer would likely not get sued by the owners. But the fact that they could sue if they wanted is what I call the gray area. Not sure if that makes sense but this is a big factor why I feel Arcade1Up has done so well (officially licensed) since people are still buying even though they are priced nearly the same as build-your-own cabs.

    Show-Me Retro,
    Definitely an upgrade in the controls department, I'm a HAPP man and also have a generic cab with those types of controls for serious gameplay. I also want to say, your new machine is a beauty, and I think you made a great decision getting it, because it's bringing you more happiness than your Arcade1up's. And you know what the cool thing is? Buying this new machine doesn't preclude you from getting an AtGames one down the line. AtGames is always having sales, so there's plenty of time to reassess sometime in the future. Having a couple of machines that have different control schemes is a great option.

You stated the Control Panel is 27.5" - is that excluding the right and left sides? This dimension would set the width for all the cab core panels, can you confirm? For what it is worth, I think the cab you have now is vastly better than any Arcade 1 Up machine...they had to cut MANY corners to be able to sell it cheaply enough. 1 Up machines scratch an itch, but they're not really built to last.

    I have both the Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man Legacy Cabs and the Super Pac-Man Partycade from Arcade1Up but that is it for homemade arcade replicas for me because I feel that the more of these homemade arcade machines are doled out, the more depressing the outcome will likely become. I am slowly saving money so I could get the home arcade cabinet version of Pac-Man's Pixel Bash from BandaiNamco, which has 32 games, including Ms. Pac-Man, (but no Pac-Land nor Jr. Pac-Man) whereas the business version found at Dave & Buster's, do not. The concept of 1up cabinets are cool but honestly I never play mine. I got the Mortal Kombat one and the Pacman collection one. The pacman one I actually won from a raffle at work and the MK one was gifted to me by my wife for Christmas. I do not like the controls of them at all. MK means so clunking and not at all right. The pacman one feels pretty good though but I don't have much nostalgia for it. I was tossing the idea around about selling them but I felt bad because I didn't really pay for them and one was a gift. Who knows. I might put them upstairs in the hallway for my boys to play. They do look cool in the gameroom tho.

      They are great decor and I give 1up some credit for that but the gaming experience is lacking and I'm soo glad I sold mine and bought this mulricade. I play it daily and it's so much better quality

      @@show-me-retro Yeah. I was thinking of gutting the MK cabinet and trying to install my retro pi in it. LOL

      @@IowaRetroGamerDad here's the thing, even having 1000s of games on there, it's still a flimsy, poorly built cabinet with a tiny screen and bad controls. Yeah it might get more playtime but it's not ideal. Just my 2 cents

      @@show-me-retro Youre completely right now that I think about it. The main reason I dont like the MK cabinet is the joystick feels horrible and the buttons delayed

      @@IowaRetroGamerDad My cabinets were fighting cabs and they moved even when it was just me playing....that's unacceptable and I wasn't gonna bolt them to the wall. Again, it may get played more but the controls would need to be upgraded and the screen is so small plus it just lacks weight, The Atgames ALU is a great inexpensive choice for a multicade. Thwy have an active marquee option and it's plenty big. In 15 min you could be running coinops on it. Doesn't have the fancy artwork but it's about PLAYING these games and ro me that's important

    I heard that if you update to 5.70 it makes byo and one sauce inoperative
