      Very cool, any particular reason you went up to 243 heads? I think the stock 706 or 862 heads offer more power from the added compression.

      Let me know how that goes! Hopefully the tune is not too far off. The LS flows a LOT of air down low and carries the power curve much further out so I'm curious to know how well the Q jet will work.

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You would be hard pressed to run a factory quadrajet on an LS. The ideal carb for an LS is a holley because you can dial in the tune much easier than either a qjet or edelbrock. There are tuning kits out the for those carbs but there's more tuning info on Holleys so that would make life a lot easier. Any carb you know how to tune will work as long as you know that you wont just be able to bolt it on and drive away.

      Very cool man! I'm not too much of an expert when it comes to blow thru carbs. I do know that CSU pretty much custom makes the best turbo carbs on the market but I would also try contacting PRC carbs to see if they have other options. I wish I could at least recommend a size but carb sizing for boost isnt the same as for NA

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With the right tuning I'm sure it'll run fine. I've never seen a carburetor work 100% right out of the box. If it runs too rich, you're fine but if it runs too lean, itll cause hesitation and drivability problems. Any carburetor will be able to start and run but the tune might still need some adjustment.

  • @noahmc1547
    @noahmc1547 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’d like to get a Holley 650 on your recommendation for a future carbureted LS swap. I know absolutely nothing about automobile carburetors. Is there a certain model of Holley 650 carburetor I should look for? New? Used? I know a bit about cleaning and rebuilding small engine carbs and that’s it. I know nothing about tuning a carb either. I guess I should have specified I will add a SS2 cam and some PAC 1218 springs. Probably on a 5.3 or 6.0

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  ปีที่แล้ว

      As you probably know, carb selection is much harder than just a cfm rating. Since you dont know too much about tuning, I recomend going with a 4150 vacuum secondary carb. I would avoid 4160 and double pumper carbs because they are harder to tune. The specs are usually listed online but something that comes with something similar to a 74/78 jet split should be really close out of the box reguardless of CFM

    Would a summit 600 carb good to run on a stock high mileage 6.0? @NightWrencher

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey bud, didn't see your comment. The summit 600 is an autolite design very similar to a holley. They use the same accel pumps, jets, secondary diaphragm and boosters. I've heard good things about them but I don't know how tunable they really are. For your engine I would suggest a 670 or 750 carb. a 750 if you don't want to tune it too much besides jets. a 670 you'll need to drill out the IFRs, rejet and get a higher number PV. A 750 you might just have to rejet. hope this helps

    I feel weird because I love your advice but imma do a 750 on my lm7 but that’s only because imma pro charge it. But may I ask, for specifically what I’m doing, what do you think? With a forced air is single or duel better?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bigger is better for forced air. Youll lose a little bit of low rpm drivability and gain a ton of power up top provided you run the correct blow through carb for your application

    • @bocajgames3687
      @bocajgames3687 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      NightWrencher so if I wanted to maintain some power low do you think a dual plane would work? Or would that rob me of air flow?

    • @NightWrencher
      @NightWrencher  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You gotta remember that the intake and cam dictate the power curve if the engine. Under boost it will follow the same cuve but the choke point becomes the carb so you need to go to the next size. With a cam and a procharger on a dual plane you can get good bottom end torque and the power will go all the way up the rpm from the cam and boost. Peak numbers will be down, sure, but if your drive a pretty heavy car or truck, the extra torque will help a ton.
