There are MANY careers that wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for that man. Jonathan Demme, Coppola (and everyone related to Coppola, by proxy), Nicholson, Monte Hellman, Jack Hill, man there's just a lot.
I remember watching "The Terror" back when I was a teenager. It's just so good. This whole method of production wasn't unusual for him. In fact most of his pictures were shot very cheaply in a few days. His most successful one (The Little Shop of Horrors) was written and shot in the span of a week because they had a set available.
I HIGHLY recommend his book "How I made a hundred movies in Hollywood and never lost a dime". He explains his whole philosophy and stories from the set and it's fucking amazing.

I have the English version. Jack Nicholson said he owes his career to Roger Corman. You should see all who went to "The Corman School" of film production.
Lotta Oscar winners in that club. Scorsese, Coppola, Demme, Howard...the list goes on and on. Corman knew his niche, made exactly what he wanted to, and launched the careers of many young filmmakers and actors.

I don't know, but around that period, the spanish and portuguese were masters of telenovelas and radio drama. Some dubs have really good quality, that sometimes surpassed the original shooting because of their experience.

Hey, *Little Shop of Horrors* was a throw away movie Corman put together to prove he could film a feature in a single day and the 80s version is still one of the most rewatchable movies from that era. So you never know, you might have something really brilliant there ;)

When the movie is produced by "American International Pictures", you know it's going to be....
Roger Corman has made a ton of great movies and taught many famous directors. He made lots of cheap ass movies but his name isn't an immediate seal of shit for a film.
My favorite story about Corman is how when he was filming his first movie, he was so nervous and scared about pretty much everything that he pulled his car over on his way to the set, and started to vomit at side of the road. After that day however, he never was nervous about filmmaking and production ever again.
Corman has actually made some really good movies, if not very entertaining ones. Bucket of Blood and the ‘60 Little Shop of Horrors are masterpieces, I think.
2:12 I _love_ that one of the adaptations was called "The Premature Burial". You literally couldn't have a less scary name for something as terrifying as being buried alive. Try to think of a worse one, I dare you. *"Oopsie daisy, my burial was too hasty!"*

It isn’t entirely un-scary….a premature burial is an actual term. There are a lot of myths and folk tales about live burials. It’s an actual term for something not unheard of, especially when medical examiners and coroners weren’t entirely scientific back in the day.
I read Roger Corman’s biography a couple years ago so when you started describing it I was like “why does this ring a bell”

I know Missing Mozart is a book company (even though Mozart is a composer??) but you should totally consider putting the name on your broadcast of El Terror, just to add another layer of complication to the whole thing

Find out WHO has the outtakes and unused footage in their attic, shoot any missing footage (to fix the plot) with the same actors when possible, and release a new and improved definitive version.

Ooh, I think this was the first horror movie I saw as a child. The only thing I remember about it, was the girl turned out to be hundreds of years old, and her body rapidly turned to dust and only her skeleton remained. Scared me shitless!

double feature drive ins are still a thing and they show recent movies.
well not as of right now as there are not that many but there is one at a town near me
it's in a town called Boaz Alabama and is called sand mountain drive in.
My family and I used to frequent the place before covid hit. as of right now they are showing raya the last dragon on screen one (there is not other movie currently) and on screen 2 are running the new tom and jerry movie along with space jam afterward. This drive in has been playing a lot of older movies lately because of the lack of new ones coming out. It was the only place to consistently stay open because it was possible to social distance thanks to everyone being confined to the inside of their car. Although it being Alabama some irresponsible parents still let their kids play with others before the movie started.

I remember watching this during a watch party on twitch. It had a few thousand viewers. so watching this movie with a chat blasting reactions was a truly unique experience.
Also this being a bunch of film legends young work is pretty cool, even if it's a bad trip of a movie.

This is one of the most incredibly stupid things I’ve seen you do so far, and I love it.
It's hard to believe someone who wants to be a filmmaker doesn't know that people like Francis Ford Coppola and Jack Nicholson got started in B movies. There are literally dozens of notable people who got their start because of Roger Corman, who isn't considered a "Hollywood" director by the way.
Coming back here after the premiere is certainly a wild ride. El Terror is now my favorite movie even if it is a cheesy 60s fever dream. That is all.
Fun Fact: In Roger Corman's film TARGETS, they use this movie as the background film that Boris Karloff's character just finished making. They even have Karloff's character shit-talk the film because it was so bad.

Thanks. I actually have a DVD with the normal English version on it. It's got 3 movies: 1) Little Shop of Horrors [1960 B&W version], 2) The Terror [1963, also B&W], and 3) Dementia 13 [1963 B&W]. It advertises Corman's name on it, but Dementia 13 is only produced by him. It's actually directed by Coppola. I love Little Shop, but I just could never sit through the other two. I also have Jim Henson's remake of Little Shop (which is also great in its own way.) tavi.

Well the original is called "The Terror" and is in English. This was a dubbed over Spanish release.
