I see everybody is concerned if the food is recalled I have checked with FDA Recalls & Withdrawals list and none of the food is listed. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers !!

That's exactly what I was coming on here to make sure you knew ( I'd been watching on my apple tv, and you cannot see any of the comments). Also I am really happy to see how many people already knew to check for any recalls, that's great news for the health and safety of all of our pets. :-)

Craigslist Hunter Blue Buffalo is defiantly on recall, my friend across the street dog just died from the Blue Buffalo food, and thats why it was tossed, please do not resell it, Blue Buffalo is on the list.

I'm seeing home trash more and more, and it's crazy because garbage cans/bins are provided to all residents in my city, and if you live on an alley, there are a dozen huge bins in the alley for your garbage. Why take your trash to a dumpster when it's already not costing you money?
People abusing other's dumpsters is why they get locked. Common complaint from dumpster renters/owners.
Or getting hurt on there trash and then trying to sue
Pete, I did this very close to where your second store was once located (Harwood Heights, Illinois) but a cop pulled up, naturally I told him I was just looking for boxes and he replied that this is not allowed and I can not do this, take stuff out of the dumpster, this was on a public ally (or at least I think it was) behind a medium sized department store like TJ Maxx behind a shopping center. As far as I know there is nothing against it on the books in that region, and I actually found some good stuff in that particular location(lots of packaging materials too) but now I am hesitant to go there.
Stick and move, get in and out quick.
I know I couldn't get away with it .Probably run into trouble.

I work in the animal industry. True the food maybe recalled so definitely check for that. You would be surprised by how much dog food gets thrown away. Overstocked, expired, bag torn, returned etc. I haven't bought food for my dog in almost 10 years because he eats the (slightly) expired and overstocked food from my office. If food is expired or expiring soon a client no longer wants it etc. We simply call the company they give us credit and they tell us to throw it away. They don't donate it because they don't want to be liable if something happens to the pet. I donate a lot of it to the shelters but you would also be surprised but some of the shelters even turn down expired food. The food is dry and only expired by a month or so. So we all know it's still good. As a veterinary technician that scene where you donated the dog food made my heart melt.

MY MAN . This is what others don't want to admit . I brag about the money I have made on stuff I found in the trash . One that comes to mind that was a larger one for me . Was I found a serta sheep lighted sign on the side of the road in the trash . I sold it FOR $275.00 to a couple from CA . tHE SIGN IS ONE THAT HAS A SHEEP WITH BUG EYES STANDING AND STARING AT YOU

Steve is the real deal correct, the amount allowed for donated items is the lesser of 1) cost or 2) market value. In this case, cost = 0, therefore no deduction for the dog food. He would be allowed to deduct the miles driven to obtain and donate the dog food.

Kudos to you Pete for thinking of the less fortunate dogs. I worked retail in a big box store for twenty years. When a product is discontinued by the store...meaning they no longer carry it for whatever reason...flavor or size its gone off the shelf. You have good Karma coming your way. Love your videos! Pete I was out yesterday-DD and at my 5 below I hit the same bag of cell phone caes-all from my area buffalo NHL and NFL-dude the bag looked exactly-all iPhone 6/6s though-so funny as you looked in I had dejavu-those case must be on a move out list-so glad to get all 6/6s along with wireless keyboard -headphones-plush blankets-over 30 buffalo sabres iPhone 6/6s and some Bills stuff--harbor freight netted me a huge vise easily fixed and a nice light up magnifying glass for crafting or art / fixing small items-Friday is almost always a grab bag day at 5 below-if you don't look you cant find! Thanks Pete you turned me onto free sourcing and it works- free .99- #trashtocash Don't go shopping go dumpster hopping!
Pete,God bless you for donating that food to that shelter.People might say you got it for free,your time and labor isn't free and there isn't enough time in the day to get your work done without distractions, you could have easily made a couple of hundred bucks on that stuff.You are a good man Pete......

be careful the dog food rolls may have been refrigeration only. if they were out there a long time they may have went bad.
John Karlen There are foods that are kept under refrigeration but I believe the ones he found are shelf stable.

Hey Pete, I was at that petco dumpsters about 2 hours before you.
I snagged 7 bags of dog food, and I left the crate and Aquarium.
Also, they are definitely starting to lock up the dumpster in that area. Like you, I always got goodies from half price books.

Working at PetSmart as an overnight shelf stocker, we would only throw food out if it was expired or contaminated somehow. I have seen food covered in chemicals and I have also seen bags of food infested with bugs.
Love this! I have 3 rescue cats. My animal shelter also likes donations of small cardboard boxes w lids that they can make into homes for small animals. 🐱🐭🐰

Great tanks! You might want to make sure they don't have leaks if people want them for fish. Sometimes the sealant has leaks and they don't hold water. They are great for small animals and reptiles though.
Craigslist hunter, i often dumpster dive around that area. I have been noticing that dumpsters have had locks on them to. Thanks for going in the day, and giving it away that people dumpster dive there. I live in Rockford Illinois, and i immideatly recognize the area. Why cant you dumpster dive somewhere else where you don't ruin it for the locals

From my experience, dumpster are usually locked to stop others from dumping in them, not to stop dumpster diving, unless people dive and try to return to the same store.

WOW I've been dumpster diving at Petco for about 2 months and have never gotten any scores like that! I've gotten a thing or two but they all had minor things wrong with them.
Pete you have a good heart. I was hoping you would donate the dog food and you came through ! I think the fish tank may have been tossed because the cover may have broken or was missing. But the tank itself looked like it was in perfect shape. Your videos are great entertainment !

I see a lot of people here talking about donating the pet food from Petco, or putting it to good use. If it's in a Petco dumpster, it's because it's infested, expired, or on recall. The reason that food past the expiration date is not donated is because it's Petco corporate policy to not sell or donate expired food to prevent any kind of liability issues about people making up stories about food making their pets ill. Food that is on recall is *supposed* to have the bag sliced open to prevent people from taking it from dumpsters and possibly making pets sick with contaminated food, so whoever threw all that food out likely was too lazy to follow procedures. If the food is still within expiration date, is not on recall, and needs to be gotten rid of, it's usually given to local animal rescue groups but that's a decision that's generally made store to store or district by district.
Pete I thought you were going to dive in to the dumpster. That was more like a step in the dumpster. That tank may be a leaker. I hade one that leaked, not good. Great video Pete Cheers !!.

Nothing replaces hard work and not afraid to get your hands dirty (But why don't you wear gloves) literally! Awesome I love it.. Amazing how that aquarium didn't break even after they tossed it in the dumpster.
