    What's the maximum angle you can put the camera pointing down? I'm planning on putting it 16 feet or so under the soffit and want it to monitor my yard for people who don't pick up after their dogs. Do you think I should just buy the extra mounting kit outright?

    • @MakeLifeClick
      @MakeLifeClick  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. If you’re hanging it from under the soffit just spend the money on the bracket from the start. That was my error not doing that. Good luck.

      Thanks Dazza. Yes, they have a bottom mount for upright placement but this doesn’t work for suspending from a ceiling. You can’t place it upside down as the picture doesn’t flip. If you have a link to a photo it would be interesting to see how yours would? Thanks.

    Hey - great video. I have just purchased the same. Do you know if I need to have the camera set up in 'wired' or' battery' mode with solar connected? I connected mine to 'wired' mode as I was prompted by the app but the battery drained almost completely from full charge overnight.

    • @MakeLifeClick
      @MakeLifeClick  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it’s not clear at set up but go with battery. It prompts you for wired but then drains incredibly fast. It thinks it’s wired but choose battery and you’ll get the right duration of battery and footage etc.

    • @MakeLifeClick
      @MakeLifeClick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting you should ask as I'd never used it without the solar panel but I just bought a second camera without the panel so I can now comment on that.
      Not to give a cliche response but it really does depend on how often it has to detect motion. With my Ring Doorbell 2, I charge it probably every 2-3 months. With the Ring Stick Up Cam I bought for the driveway it gets a lot of motion alerts - every time someone walks up and down the driveway and every time we drive up and down the driveway. So, for the new unit, I end up charging it about every 4-6 weeks. For the new camera I am now going to invest in the solar panel as it just needs it to avoid such regular charging.

Constant streaming from a battery device isn’t realistic for extended periods. You can get snapshots through the day and get live view on demand but nit just have it on your screen all day. That solar panel looks huge. Does the solar panel keep the battery charged? You really didn’t discuss it much in this video.
    I really think Ring needs to either include the ceiling bracket in the box or redesign that mount so you can use it to mount it to a ceiling.
    They also need to design an outdoor camera with a built in solar panel, that would put them at the top of the market. I hear having to recharge those batteries is a PITA.
    Otherwise great video, thanks.

    • @MakeLifeClick
      @MakeLifeClick  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Solar Panel isn't small but it has to be a decent size to power the battery charging. It has kept my battery charged through Summer, and now Winter with much less exposure to the sun. Recharging the batteries can be a PITA for high traffic areas. Where ever possible, go for the solar panel and find somewhere to put it out of the way if possible. I could hide my solar panel on the roof easily but haven't yet - this is why I prefer the separate solar panel to having it built into the camera. This way the camera can still be a bit smaller and you can use the long cable to move the panel somewhere less obvious. Just some thoughts. Thanks for the comment!
