    I don't know if you addressed this yet, but for the new users that's watching this video now. There is an adjustment screw on the aluminum arm to loosen or tighten the pivot ball. You can use the provided screwdriver to adjust it.

    You did an outstanding job in explaining this camera. My concerns are about how well will this camera hold up under a severe tropical storms and hurricanes in Florida? Have you tried pointing a hose at the camera to see how well it holds up under forceful rain?

    LifeHackster, Thanks for your exceptional review on the Ring Stick up Cam Battery version. I wanted to try that one out, but after watching your review it sounds to me I should stick, no pun intended, to the wired Stick up version for more reasons than one.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I do agree. Ring needs to fix their light sensor sensitivity on these cams. The wired version has the PoE and better motion detection. I'll be comparing these 2 camera pretty soon.

    Really enjoying your channel, and getting me more into this tech. I'm looking to either buy the stick up battery or wired. I'm thinking battery because I want to mount it on brick or plastic fascia and really dont want to drill a hole through the brick for the cable. What's your thoughts how long the battery really lasts? I'm also thinking of mounting the camera in the plastic fascia (2 story house) so it's going to be about 16 feet, I can then get to the camera from the window to change the battery. Any issues do you think?

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should work..just test the motion detection because it is installed a bit higher than recommended.

      It is actually pretty sturdy and should be a decent mount for the weight of the camera but they just tightened it too much at the factory.

    Planning to buy the white version ($198) and it comes with the solar panel. Is it a good deal? Is the white one better than the black version? Do you think it'll hold in Canada winter (-40) Thanks. My backdoor doorbell is in the open, unlike my front doorbell which is under the porch, and it been holding so far in the last 3yrs. 😅

  • @patrickbrown73

    I like this camera but am hating the software controls for motion settings. I’ve had the Ring Pro doorbell, and this is my first Cam from Ring. The doorbell settings are far superior. I would much prefer being able to manually draw out areas to ignore like you can on the doorbell. I’m trying to monitor a long driveway from one end and am finding it nearly impossible to manually aim down far enough to not get notifications due to cars driving on the street but up far enough to get notifications when someone pulls halfway into my driveway. I find the software controls for “motion sensitivity” and “notification frequency” both confusing and hit or miss. Hoping these get fixed with updates.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Wired" Ring cameras are way better or actually generally, wired WiFi security cameras are better than battery powered ones especially in motion detection (wired ones have customized zones) and usually will record earlier than battery powered cameras to get all the "action" Ring is planning to update to customized motion zones this year on their battery powered cams.

  • @patrickbrown73

    Always great work @LifeHackster ! Thank you. I just installed mine yesterday but the end of my solar panel’s cord doesn’t have the two flanges with holes to screw it in and secure it to the cam??? I shoved it in as far as I could but I can’t see anything in the app to let me know if it is connected/charging? Is there any way you know of to tell if the solar panel is actually charging it? The manual for the solar panel was not written at all with the new Stickup Cam in mind.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have the different version of their solar panel. It will not show as charging but you can go to the device health and keep track of the percentage of the battery and see if it goes up. It just takes a few hours and if it is connected correctly, you will see the percentage goes up.

    • @patrickbrown73
      @patrickbrown73 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LifeHackster after reaching back out to Ring support I’ve learned that you have to remove left and right rubber pieces where the solar panel cord plugs into the Stick Up cam (they pry out easily but can be tricky to line up and slide back in), insert the solar panel cord (new version without the flanges), then slide the rubber pieces in that now fit around the plugged in solar panel’s cord. Doing this allows you to ensure that you have the cord fully inserted. I still have no indication that charging is actually happening but I believe it is working now.

    Great review. I have the wired version, but notice a little 'haze' during full night vision mode (no real ambient light). Not sure what it is, but I feel like it's the blue light that the camera is picking up. Hey, any chance of another overview video of your video set up around the house one year later? That was a great video to learn how to set up cameras and what your thinking was on camera placement.

    • @LifeHackster

    I have the battery stick up camera in my side yard and hate the idea of having to take it down to charge. How much sunlight does the panel need to stay charged? I'm thinking about getting one. Have you tried the wasserstein panel and if so how is that one?

      The Panel needs to have at least a couple of hours of sunlight to maintain the charge.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not with Ring at this time and actually even if Ring has continuous recording, it will not happen with battery powered cameras even if they are hooked up to the solar panel just because it will drain the battery fast.

      I know as how it is setup, it is not really good outdoors at night if you have ambient lighting that will not trigger the IR LEDs. It works pretty good indoors but with indoors, you will trigger the camera a lot because of you and your family 's movement and will drain the battery quick.

      I ended up getting a security system as well since it made the wife feel a bit safer and so far the 100 bucks a year seems like a very reasonable rate for 2 doorbells and a security system with professional monitoring. And I can add as many additional cameras as I want covered under that 100 a year fee at least for motion triggered events. Far more reasonable than the competing paid camera plans.
      My wyse cam is nice but unfortunately it doesn't have any way to mute the notifications for a period of time (like 1 hour etc like ring) and no actual outdoor rated camera. Plus you are relying on them selling additional cameras to keep the 14 day cloud storage going else its SD card only. I feel that until they release the cameras to record to your own cloud or to a network storage device they are mostly novelty / live view feeds rather than security... just my opinion.

      LJH08Ralith v2.0 of wyse software is going to be game changer. none of these toys btw can really make you safer. For home security. you have to do professional installation system with ADT or something and contacts on every opening of the house. these cam is fun to do forensic... but they won’t call 911 for you

      That's true. Wyze cam needs to release an outdoor weather resistant version of their cameras.

    This is the same as the Reolink, but more expensive. This camera looks useless and wont catch anybody until they are right on top of it. If something happens to the camera you'll have to climb up and rescan. 30 second clips 30 feet distance and 115 degrees field of view, I'll have to bye two more cameras just for the back yard. What a DISAPPOINTMENT.

      True, That is the limitation of battery powered cameras because of the PIR sensor. I need to do a versus video between a PIR sensor camera and a traditional algorithm based cam.
