My mother and Ralph's mother went to the same church in Brooklyn and became friends (both named Sis. Carter). When my mother passed away, at her funeral, Ralph sang her favorite song, Precious Lord and it was so beautiful. 40 years later, I want to say Ralph, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I met Mr. Carter on a flight when I was a flight attendant about 17 years ago. He was the most humble, kind and friendly person! It was truly a pleasure to meet and serve him on that long flight from LA to NY. I still have his autograph on my flight manifest lol.

Very interesting to find out that he was good friends with Haywood Nelson & Laurence Fishburne; how ironic that Haywood screen tested and was hired for the role of Michael originally but was replaced by Ralph, who was at the time a cast member in the Broadway musical “Raisin”. Norman Lear offered to buy out his contract so he could be available to take the part, but while his contract was being negotiated, Laurence Fishburne temporarily filled the role of Michael during initial rehearsals for “Good Times”.

I met Ralph and Bern'nadette Stanis at Comic Con last fall. I was so star struck, and they couldn't have been nicer. Ralph especially had a great sense of humor, and they were both so gracious.

The entire cast of Good Times were already very experienced actors & Artists in their own right especially from the theatre. Not 1 of them was a Novice in front of an audience...and they were GOOD; they could do more than just ACT...the Old Skool actors actually BECAME THE CHARACTERS THEY PLAYED. They had a Talent, Skill, & a Work Ethic so many lack today. Thank you so much for this Upload: Ralph/Michael we still love you!

@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc I'm from Brooklyn, but I worked at a pharmacy in Manhattan back in 2003. He used to come in all the time to buy 🚬 Before he passed me his I.D. on the 1st day, I asked if he was "Michael from Good Times"? He said, "Yes, but these days, I just go by Ralph". I said, "Understood, Mr. Carter". After that, he used to come in my line every time he came in. He was very soft spoken & really sweet.

My parents took me to a Raisin for my birthday, and I was absolutely struck by Mr. Carter. I remember there was a scene where he was wildly dancing and then suddenly stopped, realising what he was doing. I don't recall in what part of the musical that occurred, but it stayed with me. Not that long afterwards, I saw him in Good Times and immediately recognised him. What an immense talent.
