My mother and Ralph's mother went to the same church in Brooklyn and became friends (both named Sis. Carter). When my mother passed away, at her funeral, Ralph sang her favorite song, Precious Lord and it was so beautiful. 40 years later, I want to say Ralph, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I met Mr. Carter on a flight when I was a flight attendant about 17 years ago. He was the most humble, kind and friendly person! It was truly a pleasure to meet and serve him on that long flight from LA to NY. I still have his autograph on my flight manifest lol.

The information is not able to be used for any other flight again in the future because of the chances of those exact people, exact weather conditions, and/or anything else that would be the exact same as the original and that's MUCH less than the one percent.

I met Mike also not at LACC but in that area and he was such a nice person. I also saw him again in LA but he was visiting my neighbor I have nothing but great memories of him.
Very interesting to find out that he was good friends with Haywood Nelson & Laurence Fishburne; how ironic that Haywood screen tested and was hired for the role of Michael originally but was replaced by Ralph, who was at the time a cast member in the Broadway musical “Raisin”. Norman Lear offered to buy out his contract so he could be available to take the part, but while his contract was being negotiated, Laurence Fishburne temporarily filled the role of Michael during initial rehearsals for “Good Times”.
Wow! It’s fascinating to imagine what Haywood & Laurence would’ve done with the role of Michael. I love the sense of community he had with all his fellow actors.
It's really fun as an actor to be in a situation where your friends act also and yall can all fit in the same available roles, audition together, travel together, etc.

Laurence Fishburne lived in my bldg in the late 70s n one day Ralph Carter came over to visit him. I spoke to Larry casually from time to time. He was also my brothers friend. So I knocked on Larry’s door n got a picture with Ralph that Larry took. Then Ralph took one of me n Larry. Ralph was about 16. I was 13.

I met Ralph and Bern'nadette Stanis at Comic Con last fall. I was so star struck, and they couldn't have been nicer. Ralph especially had a great sense of humor, and they were both so gracious.
I knew Michael and his brother because his brother lived near a coffee shop I worked at in bed stuy. Great people , very supportive as well. You would never guess that Michael was so famous based on how he interacted with me.
The entire cast of Good Times were already very experienced actors & Artists in their own right especially from the theatre. Not 1 of them was a Novice in front of an audience...and they were GOOD; they could do more than just ACT...the Old Skool actors actually BECAME THE CHARACTERS THEY PLAYED. They had a Talent, Skill, & a Work Ethic so many lack today. Thank you so much for this Upload: Ralph/Michael we still love you!

He used to come in all the time to buy 🚬 Before he passed me his I.D. on the 1st day, I asked if he was "Michael from Good Times"? He said, "Yes, but these days, I just go by Ralph". I said, "Understood, Mr. Carter". After that, he used to come in my line every time he came in. He was very soft spoken & really sweet.

Not that long afterwards, I saw him in Good Times and immediately recognised him. What an immense talent.
