They were really close friends. They knew each other as kids when they went to school together in St. Louis. And when Redd got into trouble with the IRS in the 1990s, he called LaWanda several times for help. People tend to think that because they fought so much on Sanford And Son they were not friends. What a treat to get to know the talented woman behind the character of Aunt Esther. LaWanda was a lovely and memorable lady. Sandford and Son would not have been half a great without her talent. Fred Sandford always called her ugly but whenever you got to see a rare smile from Aunt Esther you saw LaWanda's beauty shine through. RIP dear lady.
Why are you making such a big deal out of something so small? Aunt Esther is the way that people know her, so, I'm sure that Lawanda wouldn't have had a problem with people addressing her by her character name. It's amazing how some people place their thoughts on things that are unimportant.

Can't say the same for Erik Estrada. Not sure if he was having a bad day, but he wasn't the most personable. His beef with Larry Wilcox at the time saw him being short with Ms. Wygant.
@@Mister75199 Yeah LOL, I know about his beef with Erik. Something about when he was a kid and he went to where they were filming "CHiPs," and he stood near the front of the crowd and yelled hello to Erik, and he felt that Erik brushed him off or ignored him. That's the version I remember from his show when he had Benjamin Pratt pose as Ponch and he made fun of him.
