Forbidden SDI is a very old term making its appearance as early as ~2005ish on smashboards iirc. Imagine if you WERE able to (A)SDI *up* while grounded, that would always easily give you a quick soft landing instead of the hitstunned sliding animation. The programmers saw this and prevented it for this special case. Note that this only applies when the attack is not a hard knockdown (i.e. can't be teched anyway)... So for the melee-physics-curious the attack must deal less than 80 knockback, which in case of Fox's shine is solely weight-dependent (which is also why famously Marth gets the knockdown in PAL). It applies for ALL attacks that have a 0° angle like the shine AND importantly also for grounded spikes
LMAO spark with the whats crackalackin applejacks opening is something I didn't know I needed in my life EDIT: Also, you mentioned holding shield to option select and protect against a late shine. Is the frame difference between shine and upsmash or uptilt enough that, if you know the poof-delay-ledgegrab setup, you can set yourself up to react to and counter any fox edgeguarding option? From my experience, I can mix things up with sweetspotting ledge vs getting ledge that foxes HAVE to get up late enough that they can only get a shine if they're purely reacting and not reading. Would you be able to confirm this information, or would you have any thoughts on this?
upSmash vs shine is a 6 frame difference (7 vs 1). For the practicalities of your question I'm not sure unfortunately but I think it really depends on the exact timing, spacing and human reaction speed.
Forbidden SDI is the term for the fact that you can't SDI air->ground ever (you CAN ASDI that though). UnForbidden: here you SDI ground->air. Which is possible. No more crying for Spark!
The recording is 6(?) frames slower than optimal, and you only got to shield 2 frames before shine. It's unrealistic to expect fox to be frame perfect ever time, but it seems like this doesn't guarantee that you'll escape
It's called unforbidden SDI as you can't SDI up when grounded (which people called forbidden SDI). So if you SDI offstage first you can then SDI up.
*kira bursts into the room*
THE ONLY THING UNFORBIDDEN IS LOVING JESUS
Amen
Didn’t expect another SSBM Tutorials video. Lfg
As if JMOOK needed any more ways he could destroy foxes :(
Nah, every fox just does upsmash there
It’s been a minute, missed you guys 🥰

Thanks for the info, Spark! Always glad to see a new SSBM-T video, especially when it's focused on Sheik
Future topic idea: The options (including port priority) for both characters when falco down throws fox (at low, mid, and high percent) 👀
Good to see a new upload
Can any of our leading scientists let me know if you can option select DI away quick enough after the ASDI so there is no mixup?
For upsmash, I believe the answer is yes due to its longer hitlag. Idk about utilt
Thanks Spark :>
can fox walk a lil forward to push sheik as counterplay to make it hard, or is there no time?
HES BACK
i don't even main sheik but i enjoyed this entire vid :D
