This situation is SOOOOO common, both in melee and ult. In ult "dashback" characters like Joker and Wolf, and all swordies especially partake in this mixup. It's awesome to have such a high quality resource on the subject! Ty ty guys

I feel like your final assertion is right; its up to the approacher to dissect these interactions and really push them to gain advantage, while its on the defender to try and reverse the attack with their own mixups.
