    I did a Similar tune right after I bought my 16 sport. Sadly then there weren’t stock tunes so I had pay someone to build one. All said and done had just under 100hp gain but would only run 91. As far as reliability goes, I’ve driven the car like I stole it since day 1. As hard as you could possibly be on it…. That’s me. At 94k the power transfer unit gave up, removed the tune, replaced by the dealer under fords extended warranty. Now have 118k on it, no other issues to date. These engines are amazing. First ever Ford product (always been a dodge fan) and it’s been a great experience.

    Back in the day I leased a 2013 and later a 2016 Sport. I loved them, but back then there was only the Livernois tune and it was expensive. So I didn't seriously consider buying so I could mod. But my red 2016 was a freak! It was crazy fast! I went to my dealer for routine maintenance and at pickup the shop manager pulled me aside and asked what I'd done to the motor. He told me he put a mechanic who'd just purchased a 2018 Sport to work on my vehicle and in the test drive they saw a clear difference in performance. They even confessed to an "impromptu side by side comparison" to the mechanics newer car. I told him I simply broke it in hard, spooled that baby up from day one! I tried to keep it in boost as much as possible. She surprised a good number of takers. But honestly, she doesn't hold a candle to my 2020 ST. So fast it's a little scary. I look for 392 hemi's to embarass, and I'm still stock.

    Put a cold air intake, throttle body, throttle body spacer with the tune for extra hp's. Or you could go more extreme with aftermarket intercooler, downpipes, catback exhaust, and upgraded turbo's. These explorers have great potential.

    • @tkc2406
      @tkc2406 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Throttle bodies and especially throttle body spacers are a waste of money imo. Intercooler downpipes and E85 fuel system are the best bang for you buck upgrades for this platform. Throttle bodies are 500-700$ and maybe net you 5hp, I dynoed after I got BBK throttle body and only saw 7hp gain and it was 15 degrees colder than when I dynoed before so the gain is negligible. My intercooler and downpipes were 1400$ together and got me ~45hp and a much quicker spool and wider powerband. CRP stage 5 turbos were a pretty penny but I got 115hp gain with the turbos and E85 fuel system. All said and done she was making 550whp and 610ftlbs of torque from 2200rpm all the way to ~4000rpm. It could have made more torque but tuner didn’t feel it was safe above that number

    I've read about various tunes. I want to understand the use of a cooler plug and smaller gap. I have a 2017 Sport now with 97K miles. I have a K-N cold air intake, a breather/oil cap. I've been using Amsoil signature series synthetic 5w30 since my first oil change. I am a gear head but really you can only go so fast on a public road. Last week I bought the SCT X4 and usually run 93 octane anyway. With the new program I can feel the difference and improvement over the Hypertech programmer. I kept the factory thermostat and MAP sensor. Since I'm close to 100k miles I bought a new set of OEM Iridium plugs since they ran fine all these years. According to the manual, the gap is supposed to be 0.033-0.037 inch

    • @tkc2406
      @tkc2406 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      At higher boost levels (higher cylinder pressures) you start to loose spark. You need colder (stronger) plugs to counteract this. I didn’t notice it until I had upgraded turbos which were flowing almost double the lb/min of the stock ones. On E50 and upgraded turbos “spark blowout” would start to happen above 20psi boost, and it would go into limp mode from all the knock retard at max boost (22.5psi). Colder plugs with a 0.026” gap solved this issue

    This is a great mod video. Just bought a 2015 Sport, and I have been researching. Looking mainly at Livernois, but your video is making me seriously consider Gearhead. Check out the new video I uploaded on the explorer, I go a little more in depth on the tune and what's done to the explorer. It's basically stock minus a K&N filter and muffler delete. I have a 2019 Explorer Sport that I'm wanting to do this mod on. I'm very intrigued by this mod because it will adjust to different octane levels. I don't think the Livernois Mod will do that, and honestly that is what intrigues me the most about it because we go on road trips, and who wants to pay more for gas when it will be gone 6 hours later. Thank you for the video sir, if there are any problems with it please let me know. But so far I'm sold on it.

    How much boost are you making and what's your fuel rail psi at max boost? I heard good things about the GH tunes. I have the LMS tuner for 93 octane with the 3 bar map. Good runs with the V8s. I ran door to door with a newer 5.0 mustang till about 90 mph from a 30 roll. They never expect it...

    • @MinTV701
      @MinTV701  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was around 18psi or so. Not sure on the fuel rail pressure. Never monitored that parameter. I had good luck with the gh tune. I sold the explorer and have a 17 f150 3.5 and switched to a different tuner for the truck.

Or was this stage 1 tune only keeping up with a blown 2v?? Lol

    • @MinTV701
      @MinTV701  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Essentially just tune only. Had a muffler delete and drop in K&N filter, but I wouldn't consider those mods that significantly increase performance. For nearly a 5000lb vehicle, it moved pretty good!

  • @JohnDoe-fd5rl
    @JohnDoe-fd5rl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How is this tune in your vehicle so far? Any concerns? Do you know what the specific HP & TQ gain is? Do you get better gas mileage?

    • @MinTV701
      @MinTV701  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tune has performed great. No concerns or issues in the time I've been using it. Power gains depend on the octane of fuel you fill up with. From what I've seen, on 93 octane the power gains are around 50hp and 100ft-tq. Obviously a lower octane will yield lower gains. Biggest thing is the low to mid range power increase is very noticeable, especially for a heavier vehicle. It gets up and goes quite well considering it's basically just a tune minus the plugs, map sensor and thermostat. Hard to say the mpg increase, driving it nicely, I do see around 1-3mpg increase. But it's usually more fun to romp on it so take that for what it's worth haha.
