- Alan Wake 2 | Rituals of Dr. Campbell
Hello Everyone!
True to his namesake, Dr. Eugene Campbell was a student of Folklore and Mythology. The FBC sent him to Bright Falls and he was part of the team investigating Cauldron Lake and the reality alternating affects it has.
Over the course of Saga's story, she comes across his research. By observing it, we learn that the Doctor gained access to information that he shouldn't know. The Lake was causing Inspiration even to him. How? What was his purpose? And what was his ultimate fate? Let's take a look and find out.

I laughed quite a bit at the various "The crow refers to the OGoA", "The deer refers to Bright Falls", "The moose represents Watery" et cetera ending with " The Bear ... is an actual bear."
Yeah I ran out of imagination lmao
The poem regarding the young woman entering into the woods and living together with the king of the forest, the beasts lair, is a very good metaphor (or foreshadowing) for Alice Wake's relationship with Alan once she chooses to enter the Dark Place.
Say this every time, I’m glad y’all do the American Nightmare “pronunciation” of Scratch.
The child needing a mother to keep them safe is Freya Keeping Saga from her father and uncle so she won't mess up her own life by learning of her powers. "So they don't ROCK your house to the ground"
Seriously, here I am again having this game I've played explained to me. Yet again and AGAIN! I honestly love this channel. I'm watching this while the Lake House DLC is being downloaded.
Can't wait to play it myself. 4 hours to go for me !
@@GamingUniversityUoG I'm like 30 minutes in and I already can't wait for you to dissect the hell out of this. 😁❤️
@@GamingUniversityUoG Btw, I'm really happy I watched this video before playing this. I really needed this connection between the Lake house and all those poems explained.
Something that came to me, is Ahti could be also a trickster. As you pointed out they aren't always malicious and Ahti does allow you to continue the chaos that is Alan Wake 2 by guiding and even confusing you with Tom despite having the Alan tell him he's not Tom, his antics at the Valhalla, guiding Jesse his 'janitor assistant' on her journey
The Deer Fest and the coffee in the Oh Deer Diner were to much to content with. Watery never stood a chance 😶🌫️
Poor Watery. Hope things turn around for them
@@GamingUniversityUoG fiction what could become real or not
I guess you could say watery is in deep waters
They couldn't tread water anymore
@@Xylophytae Yeah 👍🏻😀
I just want to applaud your expert timing on this upload. I played through some of the Lake House this morning and this refresher on Campbell makes me feel less dumb.
Secretly hoped it would be useful without any knowledge of the DLC and what's in it. Sounds like I gambled and won lol
So the whole “peephole inspiration” reminds me of an 2 part episode of Justice League called “Legends”. In it some of the members of the Justice League were transported to an alternate dimension home to another team of superheroes. Green Lantern recognized them as heroes from an old comic book he used to read as a child. The Martian Manhunter (who has telepathic powers) came up with a hypothesis suggesting that the writers of the comic had been subconsciously viewing the events of the alternate dimension and used it as inspiration. There is proof to his theory later in the second part but I don’t know if you want to check the episodes out yourself or not.
2:45 "Campbell did not realize these stories did not come from him; they came from the lake."
Question arises whether he can still copyright them, much like those "subconscious copying" irl. Great innovation policy analysis material
One can not not eventually get into Hegel's thought and the stream of ideas that followed when doing this sort of analysis. "You do not speak language; language speaks you."
I haven’t watched your video yet but I just wanna let you know I love your work. It’s really refreshing to see someone who is so in love with the Remedyverse as I am.
Can't wait for your video on the Marmots, I haven't played through much of the DLC but they seem like super intriguing characters so far
T Minus 2 hours before we can play Lake House!
Amazing video, as always! I expected the nursery rhymes to tie into the lake house DLC, like you apparently did.
Interesting that the lake house DLC touches on a lot, we learn more about the Marmonts, and the tragic figure of the chapter is actually Rudolf Lane (mentioned in the beginning of the video). But it turns out that all the lake house was is a missing chapter of Return, which we saw glimpses of in collectible manuscript pages in the base game and the final draft. I also was preplexed on whether the lake house was actually a prequel or sequel. It fits well as a flashback right before the end of the story, or as a narration to Saga once she gets inducted into the FBC after the final draft ending. It plays in parallel with the main story.
And I expect that you will make a video discussing the story in the lake house, including that big Control 2 teaser that was included.
You know I felt like I had picked up so much about this game, but it had never even occurred to me that the nursery rhymes were metaphors for things happening to saga and the others. So many layers to this universe. I can't help but think maybe the 3 deer rhyme could refer to the child who drowns that you can read about in the 3rd overlap, the oceanview hotel/bunker. The way it describes the deer as "playing" just makes me think they're young, like the unfortunately common tragedy of kids going somewhere they aren't meant to go and getting hurt.
Ok, for the Maiden waiting poem, you really missed an important email for that, which is the fact that another email specifies that the time they spent together was one of them taking the other to the hospital after they got injured. It doesn’t disprove a romantic relationship, but it’s definitely not as implied as you made it seem.
Where was that located at? I have no recollection of this. Seems odd this would be an offense that warrants separation if it was a medical issue.
@@GamingUniversityUoG I believe it's their response to the e-mail.
They reply that one of the two got hurt and they needed to visit a doctor or something like that.
I believe they also mention having tickets to prove it or something like that.
Still, they say that they accept the orders.
I can't find it with a quick google search, but I also remember it
@@GamingUniversityUoG oh that was kinda the point, or at least what i took from it. It was a message in reply to them being separated, with them calling out how it was bullshit that they were being punished for this, in polite corporate speak. It was showing how controlling Campbell was and how uncaring he was for his workers, in my opinion. Give me a bit to find it, I’m gonna have to check all the locations for the message.
@@GamingUniversityUoG ok, found it! It’s in the Bright Falls Ranger Station, right above the message about them being reassigned. It says, quote “Acknowledged and understood. That goes for both of us, Michaels and me. It really was not gallivanting as you put it, though, as I was attacked by some rabid animal out there in the woods and Michaels helped me get medical attention in town. You should know all that if you read your messages, of course. In any case, orders received.” End quote
Great video Dean, like always 🔥🔥❤❤
Thanks dude!
Why do I think Mr. Door had a hand in Campbell’s demise? Maybe he found out Campbell was going to hurt his daughter indirectly and he (Warlin Door) sent a being to teach Campbell a lesson. Which reminds me of the trope: never mess with a papa wolf.
I wouldn't put it past him. Even if was as simple as Campbell being a dick to Saga. Door comes in like, "Who Hurt you? I'll erase his existence from the multiverse!"
@@GamingUniversityUoG Yep. Definitely wouldn’t put it past him.
Just take 6 breaths
Find the threshold and close it
The fucking DLC is amazing!!!
So many questions, and I think I have some answers, mainly about Barry Wheeler and Chester Bleess.
I already uploaded The Champion of Light with the Classic Outfit 😊
Great video Dean, like always👊
"The fucking dlc", Alan wake 2 Sex upate
Amazing video my man great work as always!!! I can't wait for you to play the DLC
2 hours and we are live!
Amazing work on this video.
Appreciate it willis!
Dr Campbell became the coffee gate in the second Night Springs episode
A piano version of Phantom Liberty starts at 20:37
I think the "faithful girl at home" poem at 12:20 is referring to Alice staying home, waiting for Alan to return. As she does, Alan / Scratch kind of collect other women to come after him such as Saga and Rose. Similarly you could view it being about Barbara and Zane and if you go with the idea that Zane is Alan is Scratch then the other lovers would be Alice whose heart gets similarly broken like Barbara.
Thanks mate! I was wondering when you will analyze the rhimes. Good timing. Watching this video after playing The Lake House. Now I am going to watch your stream recorded
Cool. A refresher before heading into the lake house.😂
23:55 was I supposed to know this by then I didn’t, I don’t even think door crossed my mind once during this rhyme, I think it was thinking of Odin actually. I thought I had a decent enough grasp on these things, but I guess not. I honestly thought the father looked more like an FBC agent. Well done.
Very informative info keep up the good work !!
That first rhyme - doesn't it kind of describe the opening scene of the game - Nightingale and whatnot? The language kind of misdirects - "gentle", "beautiful", etc... but if the rhyme is influenced by the dark presence, the misdirect makes sense.
Either way, it instantly called the opening "attempt to escape through the forest resulting in death ritual" to my mind.
Also - the "give them treats" rhyme - This House of Dreams?
Irony talking about those two. Today of all days. Wow
I wrote this from further ahead in the spiral and send it back to myself. Not a coincidence at all
@@GamingUniversityUoG Hmm a third master of all worlds perhaps?
Great video!
The man who collected maidens might be some representation of Alan/Tom/mr scratch who do have histories of being ladies’ men
something quite interesting is that my interpretation of the hero being protected by crows is quite different
you interpret it like the current events of the game, but to me it was about the original events of the OGoA fighting door when he was trying to take saga and freya (our hero courageos and true, stalked by the monster HATCHing true)
Also while the game heavily (almost obviously) implies that door is saga's father, there's still the mystery of the role of loki darkens in all of this
14:21 lol if you use photo mode to inspect a passing fishing boat in Watery, you'll find it piloted by...stuffed bears.
Hello, can you make a breakdown video about the control 2 teaser that was in the latest Alan Wake 2 DLC?
10:43 brightfalls is also flooding in the beginning of the game
The day you will stop making these video essays, TH-cam will become poorer! I am proud to be a subscriber to your channel! All the best! 👍
while these interpretations sound really good, and like the game states every work can have multiple meanings and inspiration, i feel like some of these are more literal anecdotes of the past or future of the protagonists. (archetypal characters o parautilitarians) for example the mother that tells their child to go into the forest and away from the lake reflects saga's story, while alan is drowning in the lake she still couldn't escape the danger in the forest
if alan wake 2 let us see the actual documents, letters and manuscripts pages up close instead of just showing a text box it would clear up so many questions. even with the zoom function it is very blurry when trying to read text. you don't get these details like scratched out text or doodles or underlines or handwriting on notes that easily
when you look at a page up close you pick up so much more information than by just looking at a text box
I prefer the Control version of documents too. Because we can review them after the fact rather than having to run for 15 minutes across the map to look at it again.
@@GamingUniversityUoG yeah, that too lol . maybe with the new accessibility features (cheats) update it will be less of a grind
That was the 667th like, the other neighbor of the beast… I think…
Random question, but do you think we might actually be able to figure out where the Oceanview IS? That it has a "casino" resticts it, slightly... Given the year of the game, smoking rooms as well. We've got a rough date, from the alan wake event being 10 years "from now" to help confirm that year.
Knee deep in the Lake House DLC, are we? 🙂
Not at all. At work for another few hours. Haven't even watched the trailer
@@GamingUniversityUoG Gotta tell you, atmosphere from the get-go.
for the maiden and the lover i think it would refer to cynthia and tom zane, who fell in love but he chose jeager instead ?
Interesting
Another Dork that got owned
12:58 I married a SEA BEAR!
So Alan's power are not THAT special near Cauldron Lake?🤔
Does the art has to be written?
So... an actual woman was killed by an actual bear in Campbell's lodge? Did they both disappear? Or the bear is in the woods and the woman was buried? The same with the child taken b a wolf. Are actual ppl being killed because of the stories or are the stories reflecting actual events? (not causing them per se)
🎉
Wow you're early! 10 seconds in and you're here. Thanks
@@GamingUniversityUoG I love your breakdowns especially since I got into the Remedy-verse starting with Control a year or two ago, they get really interesting from the big full game explanations to the small trivia videos. Your channel is always a good time 🙌
Hello
Hey there!
W
Thanks dude
Wait did the nursery rhymes open the threshold that consumed the Lake House!!!??? 😨😱
I'm probably wrong but it could be a leading factor besides what else was going on in the lake house
