19 LB THUNDEREGG - What's Inside? Slabbing GIANT Thundereggs
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 ส.ค. 2021
- Kate tries out her new rock saw blade to slab a pair of enormous thundereggs she picked up at the Polkadot Agate Mine near Madras, Oregon. Thundereggs are geodes, formed with rhyolite, quartz and many other minerals. The eggs from the Polkadot thunderegg bed are unusually large, and spectacularly beautiful. Come along and see what's inside!

Wow! So pretty! The longer you look at them, the more you see. I love the ones that look like picture Jasper. Some looked like mountains, and one looked like a birds eye view of shoreline and waves! 😁👍 Love it when you fire up that saw, always a cool surprise! And your vegetable garden looks lovely!
Thanks! The garden has done very well this year.
Very cool, Kate. Thanks for bringing us along. Those last slabs would make a nice lamp shade.
Haha, it will be some time before I try THAT again.
It sure was worth it to carry that huge rock back to the car! I so glad you did because the slabs are wonderful wonderful! Thank you for sharing those beautiful rocks with those of us rock hounds who can no long bend over enough to pick them up!
:) Glad I can help!
The last few you sliced looked like a universe being born. They are all so beautiful. I love watching you show. All the very best to you Kate.
Thanks so much 😊
Those are awesome! Thanks for all the beautiful slabs you've cut and shown. Funny part at the end, my pup talks back to me all the time too 🤣
:) Thanks.
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing. Love the bubbles, polka dots & little inclusions that look like lightening.
Thanks - they sure were fun to see.
I'm a big fan of thundereggs in general, but these ones are exceptional! Love the bubbliness in some of the slabs.
The whole experience was fun beginning to end.
The thunder eggs are amazing inside, beautiful! Great video! Stan does a great job cutting ❤️
Thanks so much! 😊
Your Dad , sure raised a fine Rockhound , y’all know that Rockhound are a special blessing to the world,
Those slabs are just amazing. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks! :)
I hope I get a couple those slab pieces in my yearly box of rocks which I’ll get around Christmas 😉👌
:D
Your Dad is a wonderful man And your very blessed
I’d LOVE TO OWN THAT SAW
He is, and I am. :)
OMG! Only you could find a agate that size. Incredible find. Huge! Thank you for bringing us along your adventures and journeys whether on the River or inside the shop. I appreciate it.
Thanks for joining me. :)
The thundereggs from there are unique for sure. The Mrs Jaws Jr and I had the opportunity to go there shortly after this newly discovered bed was announced to the public under the old operator. There is a video of it in my channel. This stuff is difficult to cut due to all the fractures throughout. The internal agate it typically stable with few fractures. What you have cut with the polkadot agate, you will get some incredible cabochons from it. Now unfortunately, I cannot go back until one person that is associated with the property (land ownership and former operator) is no longer associated with it. I cannot go into details on why in a public forum, but ethically and morally, we cannot go back. Also when we were there, there was some black thundereggs that were in the layer above the large ones, I collected some out of the overburden piles. Look forward to seeing all the cabochons you make from these!!! Maybe a winter project.
Kate, the design inside those is amazing. Shows what an incredible artist mother nature is. I couldn't help but think what the conditions must have been like when those were forming eons ago! PS: Looks like you have some rather impressive tomatoes hiding behind you at the end (it's been a good year for them... and peppers, :-)).
Yes, my garden has been great this year - the tomatoes and peppers were very happy.
I don't know much about rocks, but I love seeing these being cut. The patterns and details are so beautiful. It makes me wonder how long it takes to become a thunder egg and how it gets all the different colors and patterns.
Wow. Really cool interiors. Stunning. 7:16 look, tiny sunny side up eggs inside, along with the bands and bubbles! 10:46. A tiny yellow owl!
So cool, right!?
Wow, Katy that bubbly thunder egg in the beginning was pretty wild, and all of the slices were so pretty. Stan did a great job 😉.
:D Thanks!
That feeling of getting a pretty new blade... anyway, nice thunderegg!
Thank you1
Those were some gorgeous slabs!
I agree! :)
New blade....nice...homemade saw and a family relic! Nice cuts! Hello Stan!
When you showed the inside of that big thingie close up and pulled away, it was in the shape of a stay. I feel your excitement in all your videos.
:)
I sure enjoy seeing the slabs you cut> I like to see more of the rocks you find cut into slabs.
I think you are not alone! Cutting videos take a lot of time - but I did release one just this week. Thanks for watching.
The polka dots were awesome! I bet I won't ever find anything like this so I live vicariously through you!
Glad to have you!
WOW MISS.KATE THAT'S "GORGEOUS" PERIOD.👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you for showing the slabs. i see the rocks you find but i like to see the slabs too.
WOW so nice, the reason I like large stones. And would love a saw that large!
Thanks!
You must be a family of stone cutters. That's great. Thanks for the video.

Really beautiful, right? :)
Oh that was fun. I love the gray bubbles. Amazing
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Your buddy was telling all of us , good by see ya next time. Love to all our 4 legged buddy’s
Giday Kate, those thunder eggs are something else, even the slab that broke near the beginning was still a great piece. Compelling video, I could look at the intricacies in those slabs for hours. I might have to have a serious look at those DIY saw plans, not that I have any large material, though I working towards it. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin
Ha, SB, if you get a saw I guarantee you will start hauling home the CHUNKY ones. :)
Beautiful sharing 👍
Fabulous! Are you going to cut more of the last side? The first and the last were my favorite! I feel like I need to see it completely cut 😩🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the video❤️. Stay Crystal 💫
The first cut on the second geode looks like a turtle! Lovely!
Yay turtles!
Do you like the segmented blades better? I know the continuous rim blades cut slower but also smoother with less vibration.
I haven't really noticed a big difference.
That rock has some autumn color .
Thank y’all for sharing
Awesome stuff love the piece with eyes in it at 11:00, very cool
Thanks! :)
So beautiful! Love it! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you!
Beautiful star cave!
Love the polkadots; gorgeous.
True!
That green stripe in the second stone looks like peridot, beautiful.
It sure could be!
Oh you're so blessed to have had a father interested in rocks and minerals. I used to get in so much trouble ruining my dad's hammers and the concrete floor in our garage breaking rocks to see what was hidden inside them. I never got the opportunity to slice any of the beautiful stones I found. We lived in NE Arkansas, but when we visited my grandmother and aunt in Little Rock, AR I would find some amazing rocks...just a lot of different quartz and some smaller geodes. But my family did not share in my obsession with rocks and bugs too! Every summer I would have to throw out my treasures before we went home. And wouldn't be able to take home the beautiful treasures found in Little Rock ever. And what a shame that is. I don't have any pretty rocks, but I have throughout my life picked up a rock to remind me of special events, places dear to my heart, people dear to me that are no longer in this life, and every time I left a nursing job I would pick up a rock on my way out. so I have rocks that to me tell my life story. I hope to get buried with them. Why not? I can't take them with me, but without anyone that cares about my life story since I couldn't have children and the ones I helped to raise no longer come around. I might as well let whoever throw them away with me where they belong. Back to the earth we go! Until Jesus returns then I will not be with them anymore.
It sounds like you have had a full life. I just ran into a nurse who would pick up a special rock for each Covid patient she lost, and place it in a special location - it sounds like you are on the same path. Thank you for watching, and be well!
* That monster was very pretty inside.. Eyes & polka dots made the last agate Fabulous. Fun.
Thanks!
Pretty cool, yes!
Thanks! :)
Wow! So beautiful
Those were awesome! Some looked like they had little planets inside. 👍
Yes, they were super cool.

Geodes are swell.!! 👍👍

Love this video. 😊
Thank you!! 😊
So beautiful, WOW
Thank you! 😊
9:38 that would make the perfect picture frame.
OMG very nice
Thanks 😊
Beautious!
Thank you! :D
OOOOOO... MY GOD!!!
:D
Awesome vid! I wonder if you could take slices with the void in the center and somehow make picture frames from them? If the slice was thin enough, you could back light it. I know you can get pictures printed on glass these days, so maybe the back lighting would even look cool through the picture??
It sure would be beautiful!
Really nice egg. I didn't catch where you got it. Looks similar to one I cut this summer.
It's from Polka Dot agate mine in Oregon. :)
Looks like a satellite view of the first land and big gulf area surrounding it
So many different images!
WOW!!!! I just found your channel.
I just subscribed, I'm also subbed to the other channels you have listed.
You answered a question I've asked, cutting multiple nodule thundereggs.
I noticed, that you don't go with the long-axes of the rock (like with a double) or the "seams" (like in a single). You're doing slabs to see if it'll open up a crystal cavity? It's different from cutting a single, you're going for totally different results, yes?
You’re living my dream! Thanks for sharing & I just love all your videos. I’m from NY & contemplating a rock hunting trip out west. Please could you offer some suggestions or recommendations about where to go & what to expect. Please consider that I’m only “moderately”healthy for a 66 year old.😊🤣😊
Cathy, keep an eye on this channel - I will have an announcement soon that will be of great help to you.
. . .. . the slabs look like other worldly landscapes.
I agree!
Parabéns lindo
Thanks!
Australia has a busy calendar for gemstone sales collectables available if you wish to travel to Australia
Ooooh, that would be so amazing!
I adore the chalcedony and agate centered thunder eggs. I wonder what causes the dots?
I don't know, but the polka dot agate is a creamy, milky white with the same gold dots.
@@KatyDidRocks could it be opal?
I love your channel and started watching a while ago. I was able to more or less wave at the rocks in Montana but I hope to make it back soon. So not to be a pest but I have a random/strange question. My hiking boots have officially died and can not be repaired. I would like to obtain rocks not blisters. Does you have a particular type or brand you like hounding in?
Hi! Good footwear really depends on your own feet. Go to a reputable outdoor gear seller that sells boots and ask for a fitting. Depending on the weather, I sometimes also wear sandals or running shoes. Good luck!
Deus te abençoe sempre com saúde e vida longa 😘😘😘
It reminds me of galaxies in space
Beautiful. How thick do you cut your slabs?
Most of them are 3/8".
6:10 do you have some iris there maybe?
I can see a bigger saw in your future!
The original blade I had was 2" bigger, I think - I will at least order that one. Thanks!
Eu tenho muitas pedras dessa
Que sorte! Onde você achou eles?
All of , Gods creations are awesome
I love these slices! Would you sell me the first slab off of the 19lb egg? Plz. 😁🤞

Like a mini cave inside
Right?
looks like you got some polka-dot agate in your thunderegg. I wonder where you got those from? ;)
:D
It been 6 months since you uploaded this, how have you been liking that segmented blade?
I am neutral. It cuts smoothly, but I feel like it gets bound up easier than my old blade. The kerf may be narrower, which might have more to do with it than the segments. I’ll probably try to find a solid blade next time.
🥰👏👏👏
:)
