Cutting Mystery Thundereggs // What's Inside?

- Unfortunately at the time of filming my big oil slab saw is down for repairs, but we can still cut some smaller eggs in the meantime, so let's see what's inside these mystery thundereggs by giving them a cut on the Hi-Tech Diamond trim saw.
This is also a good opportunity for me to do some more blade testing.

Thunder eggs are just amazing. The one with the greenish moss like optic with blue areas is my absolute favorite.

There are some thunder eggs with mesmerizing colors in them.
Richardson Ranch, McDermott.. are two of them.. Richardson Ranch eggs have a habit of blowing caps when cutting...

I find thundereggs here in south central Colorado. I have yet to be able to actually cut one open though!!! Saw ordering is in motion! How fun!!!
If you have any little ones and know someone with a tile saw that you can use you can cut it on that.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding the y are about 2” + in diameter. Biggest one is about the size of two fists!

I love It, I have cut maybe a thousand of thundereggs. I love that no 2 thundereggs are the same.What I like to do when I go thunderegg hunting Is put them In a separate bag and mark where It came from, So when I like one kind of thunderegg I can go to that place and hunt more of the same kind. Love the videos keep them coming, Bye for now.

Thanks for sharing the exposition of those stones Jared. Agree, wholly that you cannot expect them all to turn out awesome. I recently decided to cut through a bunch of teggs and 9 in a row ended up with plain opal! 🤨 Obviously from not only the same bed but same seam of bubbles too! haha So then I begged and pleaded with the rock gods to please let me cut a thunderegg with something different than the plain opal...lo and behold, on the very next cut...Solid rhyolite~😂🤣 Just the way the rock crumbles I guess~ Thanks again, have a great rest of your week~

Beautiful I would put damaged cuts in my planted fish tanks if they are of non ph or KH altering rock.

Not really, but I think generally speaking the bigger the thunderegg the better the chances are going to be that its awesome inside.
Those are really cool dude. I think you should take the white bit out of the half that broke apart and cab it. I bet that would be an awesome looking super shiny one.
I might have to try and remove it from the host rock.
@@CurrentlyRockhounding That shouldn't be too difficult to do. Probably you can just cut it away with the trim saw.
The blue in the last one incredible and the banding in the second to last is awesome! It would be really nest if you could take just the core out of the one that crumbled?
I don’t know if muriatic acid would take away that particular host rock.
I think I could grind it away from the core maybe.
Yeah I don't think it would work here, muriatic acid doesn't work well on thing that have a lot of silica.
What's up with the slab saw? O.O I thought for sure that one that broke was a septarian nodule. And those last two - WOW!
I fully took it apart and I'm getting all the parts for a full rebuild.
the first one you cut is a richardsons ranch thunderegg, second one is what i'd say is a mcdermitt but i haven't seen one like that..., third was richardsons ranch, fourth was 100% a mcdermitt egg, 5th also a mcdermitt egg most likely. im not really sure on beds though, especially with mcdermitt since there are SO many beds there, ive seen it for myself.
Uhm huge jasper ball mossy agate opal interior at east side of columbia river pasco area.. Wonder if washed in from anciant floods or salmon river ... From McDermott to Pasco flood plane..always curious..

So, what are the differences in the different blades and what do you think makes one work better than the other?
Its kinda complex I guess and I'm not really done yet so I would rather not really answer.

I mostly throw them in a pile behind my house.
Nice eggs! I just picked up a new blade from UKAM Industrial. So far so good. Would be interesting to do a blade comparison at some point! Getting into the different blade specs might be a little dull for some viewers though (pun definitely intended).

Whenever I see someone cut rocks, it Just looks crazy dangerous. Like there should be something to hold the rocks, with fingers that close to the blade.
The continuous diamond blades don't cut you so its not really dangerous at all.
I use to think that to lol
The blade won't cut you like a circular saw would. You would have to keep your hand against it for a few seconds before it could do any damage
