Today’s video was great. I started watching you last week or the week before and I am watching oldest to newest and I am planning a trip to Duluth tomorrow, Sunday or Monday. It’s my birthday weekend and I want to go find agates and cool stuff. I have a bucket full from when I went to Mille Lacs on 8/21/21. I am going to go to 1/2 Price books to see if they have the 2 books you referenced and if not, I’ll try Barnes and Noble. I live in MN too, East St. Paul though. I have always been an agate hunter ever since I could walk. I still have most of my favorites as well as some of my great grandfather’s collection that was just going to be tossed if I didn’t take them.
Happy birthday weekend 🥳 I appreciate you watching from oldest to newest, you deserve a metal hahah glad you were able to save your grandfathers collection ❤️
Well done. I was surprised that there was agate material inside. I've never thought about cutting open porphyry although I pick up some rocks to save as is, and others to cut open. Sort of like some rock bands have guitars they pick specifically to smash in their concert. You have inspired me to cut open some porphyry. Thanks.
Just got back home (southern WI) from spend time in northern WI. I wanted to share this with you.... We went one day up to the Lake Superior Shore, Little Girls Point, to spend some time looking for rocks, enjoying the beach and people. I was standing in the (warm) lake, when an older gentleman came up to me and said, "Do you know what you are doing?" I said "Yes!". He then said, "SCOOPY!" Right a way, I thought of our buying our own "Scoopies" after seeing yours! I smiled, and then asked him if he watches AGATE DAD!? He does! So, we briefly talked about your wonderful channel, plus others that we both watch. He and his wife were from Michigan, on a 10 day vacation to rock hunt! You just never know, Taylor, where people will meet, and start discussing rocks, and our enjoyment in learning more, from your channel!!
First off, I am sorry I missed your comment, this made me and my wife smile so BIG! It’s been extremely humbling hearing stories like that, lol Thank you for sharing it ❤️❤️❤️
I am from Marquette and I just went up to the Keewenaw to rockhound and I recommend your channel all the time to other rockhounders. It's a great channel, you are very friendly and relatable. I learn a lot. It's easy to recommend.
Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: I find porphyry beautiful and interesting! It's nice knowing you appreciate it too. It's like nature's calligraphy!
I’m glad you showed how the blade doesn’t cut. I just bought a tile cutter with a Diamond blade and I’ve only cut a few rocks and I was scared the entire time.. 😬
I am guilty of also cutting the less well known stones.Currently I am cutting stones that have hidden their identities. These are amazing!!!You were so right about the surprise! This is one of the reasons rock slicing is so darn fun.It is like Christmas every time you slice one!
good morning! you just made my day, i always wondered what the inside of PORPHYRY looked like,, this is you guys' greatest video! thanks again for making my day
I love your appreciation for rocks! I also really love rocks… I’ve had an agate collection since the early ‘70’s. I used to hunt up and down our gravel road in Eagan, Minnesota with an empty Kemp’s gallon ice cream bucket (OPTIMISM!!!😂😂😂) and come home with grit in my teeth…
Me, too! The fine white ‘star’ lines on the bigger side made me think of the lines in Michigan greenstone, formed by volcanic gas bubbles, a L-O-N-G time ago!
Cool cuts. How good are you at cutting slabs straight? One of my trim saws has a little fence that helps get the two cuts parallel. I don't do as well just eyeballing them.
@@AgateDad If you're making a cab, it doesn't matter too much because you can even it out later. It matters if you're making something like crosses though.

Winter of 2010??? I got to visit my cousin. He took me to the Smithsonian. I'm a country person so was amazed by the many things to see. What amazed me most was the exhibit that showed the gems and rocks. First in their natural uncut state then opened, then cut and finished. I've always liked rocks, never been over crazy about gems except opals and emeralds but that exhibit was amazing!! Thank You for your channel !!
So glad you have a TH-cam channel, as I don't have Instagram, Facebook, etc. Loved this video! Some of that stuff is so pretty that it could only be found in nature. I actually liked the piece that you cut right After that "white" one. You said it wasn't a pretty as the white one, but I liked that one more. To each his own, right? Anyway, thank you so much for all of your videos. I really enjoy your channel.

Nice video. I wondered if the more weathered piece might be a type of granite. I live in Maine. We have a lot granite and I am often surprised that some of it gets really weathered. I know of a beach with orange sand that is mainly from the granite in the area.
I switched to a different style blade but my old one, which I used a lot, is still probably good, I can’t really put a timeline on it since I haven’t kept track of how often between switching because of needing a new blade. Once I find that out, I’ll share it!
I find a lot of those prophory rocks and I have tumbled them as well. They turned out nice. It is exciting to see what is inside. Thanks what kind of saw are you using?
Nice find ! , Awhile back on the shoreline of lake huron here in ontario i found a banded iron boulder . ( that wasnt at all magnetic ) ... was full of potential pgms aswell . Really strange but unique to the area . Found 4 hardrock deposits never before seen recently . Been crushing and panning for hobby . This place has been crossed off during the 30's , due to uranium boom , left behind a massive gold ,copper and pgm deposit ⛏😁
Your videos are new to me. So informative and fun. Thank you! Also…I had no idea the rock saws could be that safe. What would I look up to find one like that?

I’ve heard it polished well and mix review of if it tumbles well
Way stoked!! Thanks for sharing that awesomeness. I have so many of these geo-cuties.
Never thought the inside of these rock would look like that! Holy something, time to save up for a saw? Yeah it's time!
Nice video. I wondered if the more weathered piece might be a type of granite. I live in Maine. We have a lot granite and I am often surprised that some of it gets really weathered. I know of a beach with orange sand that is mainly from the granite in the area.
Possibly!
Hai
Nice to meet you
IM from Indonesian 👍💪💪
👋
Great video! How often do you have to change out blades?
I switched to a different style blade but my old one, which I used a lot, is still probably good, I can’t really put a timeline on it since I haven’t kept track of how often between switching because of needing a new blade. Once I find that out, I’ll share it!
Great video my friend!!
Congrats!!
I find a lot of those prophory rocks and I have tumbled them as well. They turned out nice. It is exciting to see what is inside. Thanks what kind of saw are you using?
Hi tech Diamond 10inch, it’s a beast!
Nice find ! ,
Awhile back on the shoreline of lake huron here in ontario i found a banded iron boulder .
Sounds awesome and fun!
Wow! So sweet! Amazing
Do you think on the first rock if you cut into more slabs it would have more crystal's?
Thank you for showing how the blades are pretty safe. I've always been afraid of saws, buy who knows, maybe I'll get one someday!
You need a Xrf Analyzer For Mineral will tell any elements in the rocks and is expensive like a new car .
Feel free to donate one to our channel
I like to buy one too and the rocks saw .
Beutyful Rock Stone,Peace From Asia/Indonesia
I found simular ones but mine has most agate banding in them some green some red
Nice!
Btw, I like Porphyry book ends..
Great idea!
The reveal after you separate the slabs 😮 WOW ❗
Love that part :)
Your videos are new to me. So informative and fun. Thank you! Also…I had no idea the rock saws could be that safe. What would I look up to find one like that?
I just got one, i. Bought some.gear as well. Hardly wait ti polish it. Great video
Awesome material!! So it would be called a amigdaloidal porphyritic basalt eh, that's a mouthful. 😂
Need a separate book just for the name hahah
