I just booked our very 1st Honda car. Actually we went for Honda City, then my husband so keen of Honda HRV and finally he test drive Civic 1.8 and thats it, Civic 😁
Bobby, your review definitely one of the best out there. They are very straight to the point and you had answered all the questions that future owners would have.
I understand that Honda CRV and Civic 2017/2018 especially 1.5 turbo engine experienced oil dissolution or contamination problem in several countries. Your comment on this issue appreciated.
becoz of this review...i am the proud owner of a new civic 1.8s...of coz 1.5 turbo is much better but judging from the way i drive everyday with small kids..i decided to have 1.8s..besides it can save my pocket...hehe
I just test drove the 1.5 TCP today for its Honda sensing. To me it's not a deal breaker with the sensing, in fact I won't even want to activate it because of the lane watch assist which will probably counter your steering turn when there's an object in front of you n you need to react spontaneously. The rest of the extras like spoiler and skirting is based on personal liking....but 18 inch rim is worth mentioning. It increases the turning radius! 5.7 (TC/1.8) to 5.9 m which to me is a big deal when it comes to cornering, making a U-turn or emergency turn. Leather seat is not a big deal to me, prefer the fabric ( better sound absorbing actually compared to leather) Nevertheless, if you like a sporty car go for the 1.5TC or TCP and be prepared to fork out extra money when it's time to service the turbo on top of the normal service. If what you want is a tested and proven, comfortable family car like what Bobby mentioned. So to me, given all the safety features and 16 inch wheel ( more comfortable and smaller turning radius). And Rm14k extra in your bank account, this Civic 1.8 is actually not bad at all!
Nice review bobby. I love ur camera setup there. So i can watch the beautiful interior while u drive/handling it and giving review. Absolutely spot on nice
@@LawAbidingCitizen117 Personally I think to make decision for an 100 over K purchase, the road tax difference of less than RM200 over a year doesn't add too much weight but that's me.

Awesome review as always , Bobby, would you recommend me to buy a used 1 year honda civic 1.8 with 20k mileage around 85-90k or a new city/ cerato? Thanks!
A car that looks sporty outside and comfy from inside , I couldn’t say no to Civic 1.8 after looking at other C segments (Mazda 3 / Cerato ) all I need to folk out is to change it to leather seats as I am sensitive to dust. Here my question, is it recommend to change the rims to 18’s instead of using 16’s ?
Hi Bobby. I enjoy your car reviews, very honest and detailed. I’m in a dilemma between buying new 2022 Vios/City vs used Honda Civic (crab). Do your mind share your opinion on which car to get? My purpose is to reward myself after years of using Myvi.
I would've said get the Civic, but the Civic's resale value is so strong that for the same price you can get a same year used Accord. Go for the Accord, more reliable, less maintenance, better sound proofing, higher quality interior, more spacious, and felt like a proper upgrade from Myvi.
@@BobbyAngmalaysia I just did some research and found you are absolutely right! Price difference between 2018 Accord and 2018 Civic is below RM10k. Not too big a stretch and I can manage that part with some wise savings. Thanks a lot!
Great review, Bobby. Very informative and to-the-point. Do you happen to know if this model is equivalent to the Thai 1.8 EL model (the second cheapest trim in Thailand)?

Hi Bobby i just bought the 1.8 civic spec , so far i face a problem in this model is the braking system. The braking system is not really good in this model because it tends to skid when sudden break or emergency break when the acceleration is high. Can i have a better suggestion from you regarding the brake matter for this car either to change the brakes or any other alternative idea from you. Can i have your email address as it will be more convenient to text you?
can I assume the 1.8 more economical in fuel consumption as with urban traffic jam, the turbo hasn't kick in and the 1.5 pulling the car needs more fuel?
hiii.. i would like to ask.. i used honda civic 1.8 almost one year already.. but i still confuse what type of fuel the best for my car?? either ron 95 or 97?? any sugesstion..

Hi bobby, I'm getting a Civic sometime this year. Just wanted to know, since I live around subang, and I'll probably be in jam's most of the time, would be it be more reasonable to get the 1.8s or it wouldn't make a difference even if I get the 1.5 turbo?
Oh they did a great job in wind noise, it's definitely as quiet as the VW Jetta. I noticed some tyre roar tho, but it's neglieable. Speakers? sound system? nothing to be proud off, but reasonably acceptable i'd say.
Ong Xin Shen Cabin noise is a little obvious but acceptable in city driving but on the highway at 110km, it produces 72decibel in noise. In comparison, a premium BMW 528 achieves 65db, a quiet Teana registers 70db and Myvi 75db, Persona 80db. Unlike Civic US, our version doesn't come with Acoustic Windshield which could potentially reduce the noise level between 3db to 6db. Hope that gives you a picture. Sound system is impressively incredible, only that you have to fine tune the settings just once to get it right.
Thanks bro. Ya a lot of C segments sedan in Msia just don't quite get this area(sound proofing). Yet..it's annoying when you're crusing and all u heard is noise from the tyres..or outside. No ✌ leh...
Ong Xin Shen there are a few aspects to consider in terms of sound proofing, first off is weight, sound proofing weighs considerably, and at 1,250kg, the Civic is rather lightweight. And with it, the benefits of fuel consumption, handling etc. Another source of noise are tyre roars, which is affected by the type of tyre as well as underbody sound proofing. Most cars are good in aerodynamics nowadays, which also translates to quieter ride if there are less turbulence around the wing mirrors. Larger cars and bigger engines can afford to have more sound proofing weighing the car down for better ride comfort. This is the reason why we have 'segments' :) they are better, bigger, more comfortable - generally speaking. Each buyer has preferences, for example many pick Mazda for the handling and interior build quality, and they accept it's lesser sound proofing for light weight handling etc. Currently the quietest car for its size is the new Audi A4. Which on benchmark tests matches the likes of S Class and 7- series and A8.
Hi Bobby, I cant decide what i should go for 1.5TP or 1.8. I heard a story says 1.5TP have air con issue, but I really like the LED headlight on the 1.5TP.
Christopher Diong if you can afford the 1.5 turbo, of course go for it! Those headlights are crazy! The aircond compressor issue has been resolved, i personally asked Honda Malaysia this and they have assured me its caused by one of the first batch supplier. Solved.
anybody know why this civic made without getting the back row seat folded down? i heard from somebody that all civic model from the previous, also got the same condition... why can't they put the seat folded??
+M. Rosli immediate downshifts in the event of an emergency. It's much faster than moving our hands to the shift stalk, pushing it to the side, and then pull down or push up depending on model to downshift. our cars wont initiate engine braking on normal braking situations, provided it's a downhill. As more and more people are familiar with left hand downshift right hand upshift, paddle shifters allows us to quickly initiate engine braking, giving us an extra safety net to slow down our vehicle apart from our brakes.
I've no experience with paddle shifter, u mean we can directly shifting using paddle without the need to change the mode at the gear lever first? Coz to my understanding for the paddle shifter to function, u need to change to the manual mode first, or is it outdated system, i don't know. To use directly for engine braking is a huge advantage for auto transmission i think.

+Ronaldo Phenomenon form factor wise, the HRV is pretty much unbeatable for it's size/price. But the civic is more refined and handles and rides better. Can't fly over speed bumps like you can with a HRV tho. And civic tends to hold its value way better than any car from my research in asean car of the year

Ronaldo Phenomenon the overheating issue is a single case in Thailand. Honda has been very transparent about it. I'd say get the 1.5 if you can afford it. :)
+chandra segaran i'm not sure how fuel saving Axia is. But when you level up in life, you'll no doubt be ready to level up in energy consumption! Just buy it and continue work hard towards the next car! Because fuel prices is not something you're in control of. Just like today, prices raised by RM0.20
+Sia Jin Loo if you can afford it, then go for it as the Turbo makes this Civic a car that VW Jettas can no longer bully you, and if you sometimes say BMW 316s occupying the fastlane, you have every right to indicate that you're faster. On the other hand if you think 1.8 Civics are good enough for you, then why don't you just buy a 1 year old used Accord instead since you don't need the Turbo? Clearer? :)
Hi Bobby. How about the fuel consumption. 1.8 or 1.5TC. Is there any major differance in the consumption? I am really confused on which 1 can I get. Please advice. Thank you
Arun Kumar very tricky question. Because it comes down to whether you're a heavy footed person, through my experience, fast drivers in a CVT car with normal power output will result in higher fuel consumption. If the 1.5 is within your affordability i'd say go for it as it takes wayy lesser effort to reach speeds, merging highway and such. You might find yourself throttle past half way a lot in the 1.8.
@David Chai so u recommend 1.5 turbo better than 1.8 is it? 1.5 a lot economic? May i know how much rm does it cost for service, both minor n major? Planning on getting one.. but not sure 1.8 or 1.5turbo.. thanks..
Ronaldo Phenomenon I would agree with Bobby to go for 1.5 turbo. Maintenance cost is pretty standard. Had mine serviced for 10k interval two weeks ago for around RM300++. Make sure you check the list before signing at the service centre because they always add on some extra items without asking for your approval.
For it's price of RM113k, there really isn't anything in its price bracket that's as well specced and as accomplished. If you go for the top turbo spec, then that's where the top spec Ford focus and top spec mazda 3 giving it a very very very good fight, each with its own merits. But for based spec, nothing really touches it.
i mean if compare honda civic vs toyota altis..which one more comfortable, silent cabin and nice driving long journey.. because this two brand have highest advanced resale value

On the other hand if you think 1.8 Civics are good enough for you, then why don't you just buy a 1 year old used Accord instead since you don't need the Turbo?
Clearer? :)
I think turbo is a good pick...maybe
Plan to get this car for my dad, is it suitable for senior citizen :) I mean the seat level
some say the seat is so low, and not good for knees. especially for elders
Seats are very low ....
Not so ideal for elders
good review man
it is comfort for long distance drive...
Before wrapping the seats with leather, do think about the side airbags at the seats 😁
that is very true! but i believe since there are so many reputable upholstery makers out there .... they should be good at it .. :)
1.8s can install paddle shift ?
Hi Bobby all your car review awesome and Bobby can you review the Audi A8L 2015/2016 please

Cmon guys. Tomorrow is my judgement day. Civic 1.8S or HRV? Pls help me.🙏🏻🙏🏻
CX5 120k right?
@@BobbyAngmalaysia is cx5 better than civic?
i remember the word "if the performance does not appeal to you"...
Hi Bobby. How about the fuel consumption. 1.8 or 1.5TC. Is there any major differance in the consumption? I am really confused on which 1 can I get. Please advice. Thank you
I own 1.5TC/P. Fuel consumption is 12.5km/l for city+highway and incredible 20.5km/l highway. 100% city = 9.5km/l and below.
Planning on getting one.. but not sure 1.8 or 1.5turbo.. thanks..
Ronaldo Phenomenon i'd recommend the 1.5 too
Ronaldo Phenomenon I would agree with Bobby to go for 1.5 turbo. Maintenance cost is pretty standard. Had mine serviced for 10k interval two weeks ago for around RM300++. Make sure you check the list before signing at the service centre because they always add on some extra items without asking for your approval.
bobby is the civic is type r but I like honda civic greal like crv
Good one bobby
Whats the top speed of this civic 1.8 mr.bobby??
210 to 220
Very nice !!!!!!
Nice watch
Pls do a review for Kia Cerato 2020 model
the civic in malaysia is assembled in malaysian plant?
Road tax and insurance is much cheaper on the 1.5!
Road tax / year is it ? No other yearly tax ?
Hye boss. May i know. Which one best drive and most comfortable. Honda civic or toyota altis. Altis seem overpriced here
For it's price of RM113k, there really isn't anything in its price bracket that's as well specced and as accomplished. If you go for the top turbo spec, then that's where the top spec Ford focus and top spec mazda 3 giving it a very very very good fight, each with its own merits. But for based spec, nothing really touches it.
i mean if compare honda civic vs toyota altis..which one more comfortable, silent cabin and nice driving long journey.. because this two brand have highest advanced resale value
hi boss, will the function of airbag affected if we wrap the leather seat outside? thanks
Most of them have templates to not affect the airbags. Make sure you go to a pro. :)
Thanks Bobby
+Sebastian Cheng you're welcomed
