- In this video I'm installing the Powerflex dogbone bush insert on my MK2 Leon. This is also the same bush insert that can be installed on the MK5 Golf.
This is a straight forward task you can do yourself with basic tools around your workshop. Once completed, I will take the car a test drive and give you my feedback on the difference the insert makes.
Link below to the insert and the website I bought it from, please select carefully which option you require for year of car.

I’ve just tried to install one of these on my cupra R, it was very stiff so tried to use trolly jack method but it’s making the top bush twist and the bolt holes don’t line up, I’m assuming the top bush probably needs replacing
Possibly. Just make sure it's all greased up and lined up correctly, and it should go in if it's pushed in nice and evenly. You may need to move the engine forwards/backwards to get the holes lined up correctly, just make sure the car is well secured if ur under it when doing so. An extra pair of hands to help move the engine slightly is handy 👍🏻
I installed the yellow insert on Audi a3 1.9tdi the vibrations were very bad at ideal, had to remove the insert straight away.
Yeah the diesels I've heard can be quite severe with vibrations. They have a red one thats for the diesel engines, which is less harsh. I'm actually hoping to fit one soon myself in place of the yellow one, to ease the vibrations a little 🤞🏻
@@NorthCoastWorkshop yeah I now understand why there's a softer red compound for diesel my mistake. But most powerflex bushes where half price on Autodoc 😊
@@CaliCarCulture well in that case it was worth a try for a bargain! 😂 Stay tuned to see if a red one makes a difference for mine, (I hope so)
Fitted the same yellow one a week ago no vibrations or any issues solved my problem
Ah, that's great to hear Kevin!👍🏻 Yeah I have a red one fitted now and isn't too bad. Mostly the vibration is when reversing up off my driveway. Out the road it's all good though.
Wondering if you can help me mate, got a fr tdi mk2, having a clunking noise on acceleration and deceleration also if car is stationary and I feather the throttle literally 100rpm more than idle the engine moves quite vigorously, this also happens if I’m tap the throttle when rolling in gear? Any pointers? Thanks
Hey Jack, sounds like an engine mount (either on the left hand or right hand side of the engine bay) or more likely the dogbone mount under the car, which may be really worn and loose, or possibly it's broken altogether.
Jacking up the car and having a peek under, while someone tries to rock the engine backwards and forwards should show if it is the dogbone.
Hope that helps and let me know how it goes 👍🏻
@@NorthCoastWorkshop thanks mate let you know how I get on
Im two weeks into my yellow on a 2.0 tsi dsg and will probably pull it out. Anything under 1200 revs and it feels like the wheels are coming off
😅 it is brutal isn't it. It still bugs me on some occasions, and I must get round to trying the red one as soon as I've got time, as I e had it sitting in a box for ages 🙈
Did you try the softer red insert?
Still to be fitted nick, will get a vid out once it's switched. Hoping it will be better 🤞🏻
75 is for used bolt, 95 for new one!
Ah cheers Kenan, I can't remember where I picked up my information from, think it was another how to on a golf GTi. Appreciate the info 👍🏻
Did you ever fit the red one, if so was it better and/or thoughts after a couple of years? Would you do it again?
Most reports seem excellent but a fair few sound pretty awful!
I've still to fit it 🙈 yep 2 and a half years later I still need to get it done.
It should help a bit, and I have kind of gotten used to the yellow one now, but still bugs me with the vibrations around town at low revs.
If I was to do it again from scratch, I recon the red is the best bet. A little improvement but then not overly harsh on the vibrations.
@@NorthCoastWorkshop Thanks, what i really need is endless time & money to do the full trial & error! Cheers
@@tomoxfford 😂😂 same here mate
@@NorthCoastWorkshop hi i have a mk2 tt and i brought the purple one. i have no idea what the colours do however it vibrated my car like mad, it was to fix a clunk which then turned out to be the engine mount so unsure if that caused the vibration or it was the purple mount?
Hey Ben, I think the purple one is one of the stiffer versions of all of them I'm afraid. There's a black one too for track use.
Yeah a clunky could come from any worn bushes of the 3. You're right, it usually is the dogbone mount. A replacement mount is a good idea if you want it to be a little bit stiffer again, but more OEM and nowhere near as many vibrations.
Hello
So basically that insert gets the vibration of the engine ? Sounds good
Yeah, when it's standard there are a few gaps in the bush to allow it to move a bit, in turn it soaks up the vibrations from the engine.
Pushing in the insert fills these gaps, which then means there is less room for the bush to move, and the engine vibrations start to vibrate the car body instead. Hope that makes sense 😁
Cheers for watching 👍🏻
@@NorthCoastWorkshop that bush kinda deteriorates in time or loose his rigidity. Extra will be good i think 😁
Yeah very true 👍🏻
Can I put it in a damaged mount?
I wouldn't recommend it, as bigger issues may be caused by the whole mount failing. I'd recommend getting a replacement dogbone mount first
can you please link the product?
Where I bought it from in the UK was from awesome GTI
www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/powerflex/powerflex-lower-dogbone-mount-insert-kit-pff85-504-pff85-704/
PFF85-704 was this yellow one,
PFF85-704R is for the diesel, slightly softer Red one
Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
Hey Kev, any updates?
Hey Thomas, updates on how it's performing?
It's been fine so far. I definitely helps gear changes feel more positive when accelerating hard, and power gets down faster. But the vibration increase when at low revs or reversing, are quite annoying sometimes. And idling, you can feel the vibrations a bit more through the body of the car. I have a red version (slightly softer) to install fairly soon, so will do a video on it's installation an the differences between them.
Basically 'no insert' Vs yellow Vs red 👍🏻
@@NorthCoastWorkshop Thanks. I guess I'm buying one and hope the vibrations aren't too bad.
I've gotten used to them TBH, but curious as to what the red one will do. Watch this space 👀🤣
Hey, already tried the red insert? Interested if it has less vibrations.
Hey Wesley! I'm afraid it's still in the box at the moment, but hoping to get it fitted to the car this month, so if ur hanging on I'll try and get a msg back to u prior to the video being out, to let u know my thoughts 👍🏻
salut pourrais tu me donner ton ressenti sur le long terme du dog bone que tu as installé sur t'as cupra car je souhaite en installé un sur la mienne.
Merci de ton retour 😊
Hey Ludo 👋🏻
The yellow one does cause a lot of vibrations. So I'm hoping to swap it for the red version very soon which isn't as firm.
Out on the road gear changes feel good, and responsive throttle, but at slower speeda through town, there's a lot of vibrations causing rattles and squeaks.
Hope that help 👍🏻
Merci
I've never seen the blue ones being used, but I imagine they'll be firm too. There's black versions that are very firm.
The automatic boot struts were from the UK eBay, but I don't know if they'll deliver to your country. Try the link and see

@@NorthCoastWorkshop Merci Beaucoup 👍👍
130Nm and 90° !
For the torque settings? There seems to be a mixture of ideas to what it is, as someone else commented a different one to both of us 😂 Anyway, there's no way it's coming out of that hole 😁👍🏻
@@NorthCoastWorkshop its a stretching screw... the old one is M14x1.5x70mm (like yours) and the one on MQB Cars is M14x1.5x50mm. you always have to replace a streched screw with a new one. the 90° angle is for the final stretch. its the official VW specification
Ah I see. TBH it was a mk5 GTi owner that I watched replace his beforehand, and he had listed the value I used. I appreciate the info though 👍🏻 I've a red bush to fit soon, so I'll use 130nm as I've a new bolt prepared this time for it, cheers 👍🏻
@@NorthCoastWorkshop no problem mate!
