I changed my Dogbone Insert because I was SICK of the Vibrations!

  • So after two and a half years, I am finally getting round to swapping out my yellow dog bone insert for a new red version instead.
    Can this softer version help ease some of the vibrations that are the result of having these inserts fitted to the car, or will they still persist and be as harsh as ever? Lets find out!
    UPDATE
    I've had the insert fitted for 3 weeks now, and here's what I hav found....
    - aggressive gear changes aren't as harsh as they used to be. Theres a little more give in the bush, so not so much of a thump through the chassis as a gear is engaged.
    - reversing and low revs in gear does still incur a lot of vibration into the cabin. It feels the same as before to be honest.
    - with the temperatures being so low throughout the winter, it my still soften slightly as the weather gets warmer.
    - if I was to opt for an insert from scratch, I'd go straight to the red one. It's the closest to the best of both worlds, though
    The replacement bolt for the dog bone mount is
    part # N10558002 M14 subframe bolt

    I've put this red puck on my Passat B8 2.0tdi... I still have it... But! Car has terrible NVH at idle which was literary teeth rattling until I raised RPM's via VCDS. It was immediately tolerable - something like old 1.9 Tdi engines. The thing I got with this mode is sharper start, nicer gearshift but idle comfort is lost! That car in oem state is quiet without any NVH! My recommendation if you are not willing to give up the comfort of your car is to not install this! You are warned! It will never "break in". I have more than 15 000 kilometers after installing and it is still same like on the first day of installation.

      This is good to know, and I appreciate you taking the time to write your comment to inform others. I can imagine diesel engines must be very harsh for vibrations, as my Ibiza 1.9 TDI is harsh as standard when idling.
      Definitely something for diesel owners to consider and weigh up when about to get one. Fortunately for me in the petrol TFSI it's been reasonably teeth chatter free so far.

    I've got the yellow one in my Leon Cupra and its okey. My ep3 type r has this things in al the engine mounts and a torque damper and that feels a lot more like race car. The Cupra is stil comfy for road use :) Greetz from Holland!

    Thanks for video, never thought of changing mine on my FR. Had an odd issue recently when one rear bulb went(outer left) and then the other (inner left). Still love the car though, went to look at a GTI 40 last week, but just wasn't worth the cost to change (quicker but not all that much to be fair) and our Leon's are still looking pretty good.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow, a GTi 40 would be an amazing car to have!! I thought it would be a lot quicker, surprised to hear the Leon would keep up. And yeah ur right, these MK2's still look good to this day, a really well designed car that as u say, that kind of pays for itself now, with only maintenance, fuel etc, being the expense.

    Ive got the o34 aluminium inserts on my mk6R, vibratey piece of shit down low but not bad when you get going. Might remove it honestly.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it can be tiresome sometimes, esp at low speeds in traffic or manoeuvring in car parks. The O34 are quality bits of kit so good shout. Just a shame it is so harsh.

      Yep, I bought mine from awesome GTi
      www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-brand/powerflex/powerflex-lower-dogbone-mount-insert-kit-pff85-504-pff85-704/
      Just scroll down a bit, you'll see the various options depending on the age of your car, so just double check ur mount looked the same as mine (after 2008)
      Diesel option is for the red inserts, my part number was PFF85-704R, so u could use that part number to shop around for the cheapest supplier.
      Hope that helps 😊👍🏻

      Yeah, it's starting to feel a little better already, still vibrations at low revs, but less of a thump between gears, while still being an improved gear change over standard.
      And yeah, really happy with the torque that comes out of the wee Milwaukee. I suppose u pay for what u get, and this beast will hopefully pay for itself over the next 10 years 😁🤞🏻

      Is the motor knackered in ur mirror? Usually winter takes its toll on them, I replaced one last year. The fuel smell I'm not so sure of. Maybe an injector seal in the fuel rail has perished? That happened to me 2 years ago. I dd a video on it actually, the symptoms, then fault finding and how I finally got it fixed.
