    Thank you man for this useful video! After 9 year that I bought my Cupra R, finally I have done this work today because I was tired to have the spark plugs oxidized.
    Regards from Italy! 👋

    My Leon has been kept in a garage since I bought it new in 2006 which may explain why this hasn't been an issue for me. Some water does get through as I have some white marks on the black pad, but not enough to be a problem. On another note, I have just replaced my cigarette lighter with the duel USB socket as in your video, so I don't have to keep unplugging the satnav because of the permanent live. Thanks for that.

      Yeah, keeping it garaged will definitely help. Wish I had garaged my car from the start 🙈 seaside salt air is killing it!
      And good to hear the usb charging mod is helping 👍🏻 is so handy for numerous things 🙂

    Hey mate. I’ve got exact Leon as you same colour too 😂 not as clean though. Cheers for the video mate , I’ve been trying to work out how my battery has been getting damp. I’m been taking it off and cleaning a lot of corrosion off it , giving it a trickle charge. It’s happens again today we have had a cold weather snap in my country atm. Tbh I thought water was somehow 0:15 getting in through the back of the bonnet and windscreen whippers was forcing water through there. Anyway great video man i would never of thought of that. Not until I’d of needing a new sound deadener 👍

    My 07 leon has been having issues with this lately, iv seen the previous owner has put silcone on the back end of the clips but still gets through so ill remove the panel and try your way.
    Never notice this issue till i replaced the diverter valve (after watching many of your vids) after i had alot of power back then to having misfires on pack 4, changed that and has been fine for a couple months then went again last week and had to replace.
    Thank you for the videos you put out, helped me alot diagnosing my cars issues and the general things to check and maintain 👌

      I have exactly the same... The previous owner did the silicone on the back end of the clips, but I also have water in cilinder 4. I guess he did not do it properly. Now gotta try and remove the silicone kit he did and re-do it. Haha yayyy....

    Hi mate, i had same problem on my Cupra and we discuss with my mechanics that for me the fastest repair will be to replace original engine cover (do not fit anymore due to Ramair oversize intake) with engine cover from Audi TTS (need to find cheap one, otherwise it will cost you a lot of money) and it works perfectly 🙂

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great to hear Thomas 👍🏻 and yeah the Audi TTS engine covers can be expensive 🙈 hopefully you can find a reasonably cheap on 🤞🏻 Cheers mate 😊

      I was lucky, because my mechanic worked for authorized service so cover cost me aroun 4000CZK (140GBP aroud). But I saw on ebay for 800 pounds also :D

    I don't understand this part very well. At 04:37 you mentioned the tiny hole (main troublespot) but, if we don't have a hose attached to it from the bottom we can seal that hole as well.
    So what does that mean? Does it mean we don't need a hose only the sealed clips or?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, you don't necessarily need a hose like mine. You can just set a blob of silicone over it, so it's blocked off, and any excess water that gathers under the trim will just drain out the sides or if the car is on a hill it will run out the front or the back.
      The hose was just something I tried and seems to work, but fiddly to do.

    • @Frostensen
      @Frostensen 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NorthCoastWorkshop Thanks, the hose seems to be the go to solution for everyone. I asked because I never heard anyone mentioned just plugging the hole. I'm about to fix the same problem on my car, but don't want my new insulation to develop mold. That's why I asked if you know for sure if it works 🧡

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep the hose definitely works. For speed a lot just put blobs of silicone on all the holes and clips, and say it works fine. The same as you though, I felt the hose was a better option.
      I can't remember the exact sizes but it was just aquarium hose and an L shaped connector piece I used from eBay 👍🏻

    I've got the Audi TTS engine cover and its still getting water into cylinder 4. So going to try sealing up the holes. My only concern with sealing them all up is where does the water go? The last thing you want is the water just sitting under that plastic trim.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that's why I put the hose in, instead of blocking up that final hole. It's obviously Seat meant it to be a drain hole from day one, but hadn't thought it through, as the water soaks the sound deadening material 😅🙈
      If it is fully blocked, I believe the water will just run out to the sides or out the front when steering or under breaking. Not ideal, but better than into cylinder 4 🤣

    It annoyed me that the water pooled on the oil cap on my 1.6 but never thought much more on it till i seen this

  • @Odspeed001

    Currently raining today in Italy, and my car is outside the rain, when i open my bonnet, there always water on the oil cap, whenever it rains i just cover the oil cap with some Lyon, it's a shame that they had to leave a hole like that in the middle of the engine. I'll try and seal it up

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, a very strange design, especially right in behind the sound deadening material. Hopefully it works for you mate 👍🏻

    Hi just bought a 2011 fr+, I washed car today and found when I opened the bonnet the oil cap with the seal was dull of water😮 I'm guessing this is the same thing you arw describing? Cheers, Paul.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Paul, yes it most likely is. The random 'drain' lets water pour out of it, so if the sound deadening under the bonnet is soaking wet or missing, it's probably best to try and seal them up for future washes. Cheers for watching the vid 😊👍🏻

    • @paulgreen9265
      @paulgreen9265 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @NorthCoastWorkshop has anyone else ever experienced water collection in the oil cap?? Also my headlights are very misty like sanded inside, I've tried polishing them outside but think it's inside the lens

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's UV damage you're experiencing with the lenses of the headlights, mine are the same. It really lets the car down and a common issue with MK2 headlights I'm afraid.
      Only real way to fix them is replacements that are in better condition. I'm just not ready to fork out the cash for a new pair 😅🙈

      @NorthCoastWorkshop thanks for the responses, have you had any trouble with speakers? One tweeter doesn't work, 2 main speakers don't all on different doors 🤔

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Standard speakers are known to blow quite easily if they've had a hard lift. Some mid range aftermarket ones with the speaker ring adaptors will sort that.
      The tweeters I'm not too ure about, mine have always worked, so could be a wiring issue or they've blown too possibly

      I'm pretty sure it's 9 you'll need, remember to plug the last hole in the middle too. I'm afraid I've not got a part number for the material, but a Google for it should show a few places u can get a replacement from hopefully 🤞🏻

      @@NorthCoastWorkshop - Hey Buddy, had a quick follow up question as it has been raining loads of late... what size tube did you use for the excess drainage, I think I am going to do the same!

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used no more than 2 meters of clear aquarium Flexi tubing (6mm inside diameter, and 9mm outside diameter) then a piece like an 'L' shaped junction. One end of the junction attached on the hose, the other end I pushed into the middle hole on the bonnet and trimmed away the excess plastic that poked through, then silicone around it to secure.. The L shaped piece was called "L Equal Ends Water Pipe Elbow Joint K611 Hose To Hose Hard Plastic Aquarium" on eBay. A mouthful, but hopefully help if you're searching. It needs to be obviously 6mm to it sits snug inside the pipe 👍🏻

    Have an fr 140 with the 2 litre common rail TDI engine.
    Should those of us with diesel mk2's have any reason to be concerned by this or will the workaround solution not be of any real value to us?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      It won't be as damaging forr you mechanically as your diesel engine shouldn't have important parts below the water leak (well I don't think it will). But if you do have the sound deadening material still fitted and just want to keep the engine bay reasonably dry, I'd say it probably worth doing just for peace of mind long term 😊👍🏻

    This flaw is on my Leon as well, but only when im washing my car, and lift my bonnet,and it starts to drip the water from that plastic... Should this help to like you do?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Once done you'll still get water running off the back when u lift the bonnet, but it tends to run down the back of the engine and cause no harm. The holes for the clips mean the water enters the engine bay a little further forward, so it ends up dripping over the engine, even while the bonnet is shut.
      Hope that helps 👍🏻
