    Yes!!! Finally I think am starting to see the light of understanding the wet on wet technique 🤗 Thank you so very much for this video 🙏 I am struggling so much with the wet on wet technique. So much confusion about the amount of water on the paper and the amount of water and paint on the brush. I have seen so many tutorials about this but you are the first that explains that also the consistency of the paint matters 🤔 My practices constantly go from the paint won't or hardly moves/spreads or to it spreads all over the wet color piece not just partially. It is very frustrating, I know it takes practice but knowing this helps a lot 🤗💖

      I’m glad this was helpful. It takes practice. Try these exercises, especially mixing the different values and it will help!

      @@JackieHernandezWatercolor I was practicing this yesterday with some paints and I discovered that some colors don't spread either? Do you know why? Do you know if cheaper brands spread less than the more expensive ones or does that not matter? Sorry for all the questions but I really want to understand this ☺️

    • @JackieHernandezWatercolor
      @JackieHernandezWatercolor  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Brands can affect the spreading, but I think it’s important to know the pigments in the paint. Certain pigments spread wet-on-wet more than others. For example, mineral and heavy granulating pigments don’t spread as much or as fast as synthetic pigments like Phthalos and Quinacridones.

    This video is perfection! I really wish I'd seen it much earlier in my art journey. The clear concise way you explain this makes it so easy to understand, and the lack of music playing while you are speaking makes it so much easier to focus on what you are saying. Thank you so much! I will send the link to your videos to anyone I come across who is just starting out. 🌻

    Jackie, thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I just came across your channel tonight and have watched your first two videos for beginners. Do you have a video that shows how you mix your colors before you begin painting? Do you make a puddle of clean water on your palette and add paint or what? I know this is probably a no-brainer question but, I want to do it correctly.
    Thank you so much for your help.

      I don’t start with a puddle of water. I start with my moistened paints, grab some pigment, then slowly mix in water until I get the right consistency/value.

    When the paint "blooms" is so pretty! I getting excited! All i need are good materials! It's fascinating how the paint "knows" to stay with the edges of your leaf. It's like there is an invisible barrier the paint can't cross. Is that a "thing" in watercolor painting? I've seen it many times in other tutorials I've watched and the same thing happens. It's very cool.

    • @JackieHernandezWatercolor
      @JackieHernandezWatercolor  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, it is a thing. When you paint wet-on-wet, you apply clear water to the paper first. Then when you add paint it will stay in the wet area of the paper. It’s truly magical ✨

    I'm so happy I've found you! Please tell me an inexpensive beginner set of brushes to buy. The brush that you're using in this video is good for small designs as well as larger ones. I have some cheap brushesI got from Amazon that are probably meant for children. I'm ready to invest in a few better brushes. I've noticed round style brushes in many sizes seem to be the favored brushes. Conor you give me tips? Thanks

    Really appreciated you went over controlling wet on wet. I’ve been having a hard time with clouds as it’s wet on wet with a watery mix as I want a light value. Everything was spidery! I’m going to try waiting for it to dry more and maybe a misting. Thanks.

      For clouds, I definitely recommend using the damp brush to smooth out those spider veins. You can keep them from bleeding into the cloud area. I’m adding “how to paint clouds” to my list of video ideas 😊

      I would recommend 100% cotton, 140 lb., 300 GSM cold-pressed paper. The sketchbook I use in this video is great for beginners. It has 30 pages that are perforated so you can easily remove them from the book. Here’s the link to the sketchbook: amzn.to/3TqPEv8 I hope that helps.

    I have so much trouble with charging. It’s such a simple technique but it never seems to look good when I do it. My colors never really blend. It always looks like I have a splotch of color on top of my other color.

    • @JackieHernandezWatercolor
      @JackieHernandezWatercolor  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh no. Are you using 100% cotton paper? Charging and blending are not as smooth on pulp-based papers or hot-pressed papers. If you’re still having trouble, your paper might be drying too fast. Try wetting the shape with clear water only, then add your first color and while it’s still wet charge in the second color. That initial wet layer will give you more time to work.

    • @angiadcock8196
      @angiadcock8196 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@JackieHernandezWatercolor Thanks for the tips. Yes, I always use 100% cotton paper. I realized it’s just an exercise in frustration and a waste of paint and paper to use anything else. I think it is a wetness issue. After reading your suggestions and thinking about it I probably don’t have enough water in the paint or on the paper so it’s just not spreading and blending as it should. Thanks for the help.
