Hello Sienna! A year later, you probably are super fluid with this Song by now. Fantastic you're playing with your Dad & hope you still are which, no doubt, would make you the coolest Girl in School :) . I am hoping my Grandchildren will want to learn along with me - I'm going to sign up for Dave's Classes and wonder if you did the same? if so, what are your thoughts about it? P.S. I'm currently taking a Beginner's Course with another Teacher (Paul Davids) who is excellent but want to try Dave next - I think he's amazing & figure his Courses will be as well. Kindly, Justine in New York
hello david, u may not remember me but iam the kid who bought a new guitar listening to your tutorials. thanks to u i am now a singer and guitarist in my school band. U DA BEST:)
I've watched quite a few Dust in the Wind tutorials and this is hands down the best one, especially with the tab scroll -- far more instructive than watching a dude's hands. Thank you!
Dave, you are my HERO!!! You are truly the BEST teacher ever!!! The way you explain and demonstrate is superb! Also, your video demo, the visual display is amazing. Thank you so much for your hard work for putting it all together and enable beginners like myself to follow along, which is so critical! I have joint membership and hope to have the time to continue...Very grateful for your generosity of sharing your talent!!!
My dad gifted me my first real guitar two days ago! My dad's all time favorite band is Kansas, we grew up listening to all of their songs, and he said to me jokingly "I expect you to know dust in the wind by next week"... needless to say I am determined and so far this tutorial has been so easy to follow!! Thank you! I'm excited to show him what I've learned
Really nice job! It’s great how you were able to show the tab in sync with the music and have the box around the tab highlighting each beat as it goes by, along with the fretboard showing the chords. Nice! Also kudos to your friend who sang it. This is not an easy song to sing and he did a great job. Thanks so much for all the time this must have taken to put together!
Started learning this song about 10 years ago. Learned the picking pattern, learned the intro, decided it was too hard. Now having picked up my guitar again after a long time, I decided to finally learn it start to end. Your video is making this significantly easier to understand and put together. Thank you kindly!
thank you so much guys !... It is a great pleasure to greet you!... you really don't know how much your lessons has been of a great blessing to me!... God bless all of you!...
Omg! Can't believe these lessons are available on TH-cam, free, for all of us! Thanks so much for uploading! I'm subscribing your channel and sharing to my guitar buddies your videos! God Bless!
I agree with your students... I recently started over and found you tuts after watching other ones. I'm dumping the other ones. NOW!. Thanks for your hard and beautiful work, Dave.
I really appreciate the amount of time and effort it must have taken to create this video with all its moving parts! It is extremely helpful for me as I am learning many of these chords for the first time, along with fingerpicking. Your style of teaching is by far the best I have seen!
Such an impressive catalogue of songs you have tutorials on. You almost make it too easy. That bridge is really something. Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna be donating some money because you more than earned it
Dave this was an excellent tutorial on Dust In The Wind. The way you broke it up into parts and included both the parts and the song at the end was super helpful and allowed me to pick up the song really fast.
You are the number one 1⃣ I follow you from Italy, and during these hard days of covid-19, the best thing during the day is watching your videos and try to learn your songs. My favorite is shallow Thank you, your fan Stefano 🇮🇹
I follow many Guiar lesson channels, and gotta say, you are perhaps one of the best out there. The chords and graphics shown, your clear and precise teaching. Most awesome...!!!!!! 👍🏽👍🏽
I love learning songs through your videos! It makes even challenging songs accessible. This one is what motivated me to work on fingerstyle! I can finally play it and sing at the same time and that feels amazing!
Yours is the best tutorial platform I've ever found! Thank You. Very easy to follow/understand. Nothing that isn't needed and everything that is needed.
I loved this class so much, I can't stop play this on my guitar, you should have 1 billion subscribers, your channel is the best music tutorial channel. I love the way you explain it, and I think it takes work put all the tabs and chords and everything so well explained. I love your videos :) I can't get enough of saying that you are the best.
@@erikasustila3005 Absolutely, it has even become my favorite song to play on the guitar. But despite that, I found it easy to play and I was able to play 100% the first time, but I just improved over time.
Really good channel, probably best guitar tutorials 100%....his clean playing, only necessary talking... Not to mention the awesome follow along tabs and chapter breakdowns... Good job... Super good job
Hey David, this ist probably the best song to play and learn in fingerpickingstyle. Thank you a lot for teaching that original one. I played it in an easier way so far and it sounded ok, but not perfectly. Cu Michel
Thank you very much. Introduce and explain the details of the song clearly and very easy to understand. I think you taught this song better than anyone else I've seen.
I have struggled for as long as I can remember with this finger picking, this is the best explanation I’ve seen. Think I might have a change of getting this now!! Thanks Dave
Man that's one great lesson. Been working on it for about three weeks. It's getting better, but still have aways to go. You have a great channel bro . Thanks
I know no one really cares but I just want to share that when I first started guitar around a year ago I tried learning this song. It was very difficult and it took weeks to get the intro somewhat down. I then kinda forgot about this song but I tried re-learning it today and it took about 10min to get it down now. Thanks for the tutorial 😸
Haha near the end you mention practicing the picking pattern first and when I arrived at that point I was like.. well I just spent a week doing that already because I only watch 1 part of like the bridge/verse/chorus in order and then keep practicing that till I can play it smooth and memorized it before I even move onto the next part. I've finally just arrived at the outro and my fingers are killing me so I just memorized it and will practice it tomorrow and then I can finally start practicing the piece in it's entirety. That's my favorite part obviously because then I can just play it instead of watching and replaying the video or having to read the tabs. That's when you can speed up the practice. Can't wait! Thanks for this! Also look forward to watching more of your tutorials it makes learning easy! This is the first song I'm learning in over 10 or 15 years after not being able to play for that long because of injuries. You can't imagine how much it means to me to be able to play again, I was always pretty good at it and a fast learner so it destroyed me when I had to stop playing. Now I'm 37 and have missed so many years in which I already could have been very good, but I focus on the years I have ahead of me to still learn if I put in the time.
Oh my goodness... You have an amazing voice and this is a really great tutorial. I have always loved this song. Thanks for sharing your skills and knowledge. 🙏
Everything here is spot on except the Outro. I learned the Outro shown here and it was extremely difficult. When I tried playing it with the record I found it is actually the same pattern as the intro but just staying on the Am chord position instead of changing to C. Much easier although the pattern shown here is interesting which I could maybe use in an original if I can master it.
There are two guitarists on the official music video - one on the left and one on the right. At the start of the Outro (2:52 mark) both guitarist have their left hands near the first fret. However, later in the Outro (2:59 mark), the guitarist on the left has his left hand near the 5th and 6th frets. The guitarist on the right continues to keep his left hand near the first fret. I am not sure how this may affect the Outro shown here. Overall Dave did a great job with this lesson!
put my guitars on the shelf for a few years, when I saw this video I picked up my concert sized acoustic and played along, was slightly emotional after being away from it so long, but just wanted to say the video is great and you're doing a thing many get joy from. You're an absolute guy my dude!
me too was waiting for this, no ones compares on how you make your tutorial. I really love how you play the whole songs after the tutorial. That really helps us beginners to find what/where we are missing at. I Salute you :)
Another excellent tutorial Dave! I had learnt parts of this before but now with your help I can put the whole song together. Still waiting for you to work your magic on some Keith Urban songs for us. Please, pretty please! Stay safe buddy.
Excellent lesson thank you. Came here after learning Layla acoustic which was excellent, this one equally so,very clear, Not too quick nor to slow. As others have said, my go to song tutorials 😉
I’m a thirteen year old girl and i love playing guitar, like Sienna below me 🤩 i have played classical guitar in music school for five years, it was really intense, i really loved it but it was draining me because i couldnt do any of the other things i love because my timetable was so full and i always wanted to learn playing an electric guitar so this is my second year of electric guitar. I haven’t picked up my classical guitar for so long and I decided to do it today with this song. Thank you for this video! Happy i’ve still got the drill😁 Thats my seventh year of playing guitar and i learned a lot, classical guitar school taught me a lot and i’m happy that i picked up that classical guitar again😁 edit: i just noticed that on chorus one in the tablatures (first tact) it says that you should play the note g and on the video you played a (a sounds right)
So question - On the transition from Am to Cadd9 in the intro - the tab says to hit the 2nd fret on both D and G strings but the notes that ring during the video are 2nd fret D (E) and open G. Am I hearing this wrong? I sure hope not because if its an open G as you transition to Cadd9, the chord change is so much easier in my opinion. Anyone know?
Hi Dave, your videos are impressive, and I've learned a lot from your guitar tutorial videos. Do you set up your guitar into low-action? It seems easy for you and doesn't have to press hard when fretting.
And to think this was Kansas guitarist Kerry Livgren's finger warm up exercise for years before becoming a song. One day his wife Vicci suggested Kerry make it into a song. And thus Dust in the Wind was written.

Awesome tutorial. Thanks so much! Just a little problem here: I'm playing this on a classical acoustic guitar with a wider neck than the usual western guitars.
