I have a '17 NSX, and while it makes little sound, the mid-engined v6 makes the car extremely fast and predictable, especially on turns. I imagine the C8 is similar.
Saw my fist c8 last weekend. Absolutely stunning. Couldn't believe it was a vette! It legitimately looks on par to McLaren etc. Was matte black with aftermarket bronze wheels. Absolutely stunning.

Great video! Good to see as similar as possible track outings, but one thing I noticed was you seemed a lot busier in the GT500 as the C8. Based on the video, and comments you've made in the past, that the C8 makes you look better easier than in earlier Corvettes or the Gt350/500 cars.
Yes I agree, with the c8 he seems to go in and out of the corners and back on the throttle effortlessly while with the mustang he's sawing at the wheel and having to come down on speed so as not to fishtail the car on the corners.

@@arkhsm That was his opinion based on his" butt dyno" after driving both cars during the Track Test in which the ZL1 1LE put up a faster time then the CFTP GT500, noting that he felt the GT500 tires were a little worn. Again that's his opinion not meaning its actually faster.
Considering you are driving the secretary version of the C8 and near top performance GT500 I'd say the C8 is going to stomp the GT500 once the Z06 comes out. I'm a GT500 owner but have to admit the C8 has made it to supercar status and will be in the league of the top tier supercar with the Z06.
Can’t help myself, gotta comment again. Just think, this is the base model C8 Corvette (although Z51). Just wait for the Z06 and ZR1! The Shelby is traction limited and Ford really has no where else to go with this platform. Hard to imagine a mid engine Mustang.
Hard to imagine an electric mustang SUV. Look up Mustang Mach-E it's an electric SUV. If you can't imagine it perhaps Ford will! Or maybe they will reserve those upgrades for the Ford GT. I personally would like to see the battle continue between the mustang and Corvette but there is no way it will be a fair contest with the C8's handling capabilities. In the end physics prevails.

Salty Floridian a whipple kit isn’t even available for that car yet. They can’t be tuned. And then there’s the extra weight that adds, plus the $20k+ extra it would cost, and then the balance of the power and weight. Adding power doesn’t always make it faster. Plus the trans won’t take it, axles won’t take it. It’s no longer a bargain. Just get a gt500 with the track pack and a simple tune and exhaust will really wake that car up. FBO gt500s are making 900+ already. Reliably

Well, the c8 is a scalpel, the gt500 is a meat cleaver, both beautiful engineering pieces and competent track beasts, but preferences are preferences. Wait till we have a c8 with those power numbers, though
@@Roguewrrior56 the "Alpha" chassis on the Camaro creates a huge difference with better handling compared to the old Mustang chassis which needs cup tires to be able to handle.
Great video as usual and very nicely produced. It’s like I’m a passenger in the car with you. Love the side by side lap comparison as well. You could see the Vette had a slight advantage and these two cars could not be any more different. Nice work.
In my mind, the Mustang is more like a NASCAR stock car (big, powerful, have to manhandle it around the track) and the Corvette is more like an IMSA GTLM car (light, nimble, goes where the driver wants it to go).
Truly fabulous video and honest accomplished review by a professional driver. How could we choose between the two.?A family man may choose the Ford but racers goes for the Corvette. All this performance available at a fraction of the cost of a Ferrari or Lambo.
They are both incredible cars, but this is a flagship against a base model. I know Z51, but honestly how many cars won't have it... You are a better driver than most. I don't think the average driver is going to be nearly as fast around a track in the GT500 because it's just an animal, being rwd with that much hp. There is a reason the ford GT is mid engine. I can't wait to see what the C8 Z06 , ZR1, and Zora can do.

Great video! Next time I'd like to see a comparison of a lap in automatic vs. a lap with manual shifts. I'd like to know if there's a difference in the gear the DCT of the Mustang chooses compared to the gear the DCT of the Vette chooses on the same part of the track.
Comparing gearing would be a tough task in these cars. Gt500 is a 7 speed, while the vette is an 8 speed so they have different ratios, and there’s also the difference in redline capabilities of the engine itself. That being said, The mustang will want to stay near redline while the vette will try an utilize torque.
I just have to say the sound of that beautiful predator motor is sublime and they don't call it a snake for no reason if you get complaint it will bite you hard
Love to see same rivalry with Gt500 vs C7 ZO6 to remind vette guys what GM did with similar power level and front engine. Hard to match a mid engine car on track.
If the C8 and the GT500 had a baby it would be the C8 Z06. The gearing is a little too tall in the GT500. I think that's the difference between the two. The C8 need either better brakes and more power. C8 gearing seemed good enough in my opinion

Being an Aircooled VW guy I have had a distaste for mustangs for a long time.. Hated them.. Always been a Chevy guy. But thanks to you Iam learning to not throw all the mustang owners into the same fanboy hole. These cars are both Amazing and American.. And you do a hell of a good job.
Thats interesting, the vette starts out a tick slower, but by the cork screw and the turn right after u can see the rumble strip coming up a tick faster. Also ur doing less steering wheel input correction in the vette, either the handling it better in ti, or the shelby breaks traction more often. The breaks on the Shelby are insane, u can break later and go deaper into the corners. How is the Fade on them? Both are great machines.

The sound of the mustang makes up for a lot of seconds on the track for me and I love FR cars and kicking the back end out... But I love both cars for sure and good driving and video SP..
Gt500 definitely top of line mustang but Corvette definitely lives up to its name. I'm sorry but no mustang ever will compete once the Z models come out.

I think only using 2nd gear for the last and first corner you could be faster for the stang. For the vett using second before the second corner of the uphill, you will be faster. Great vid though mid engine is so much of a difference.
The C8 now has aftermarket dual turbo kits for it that gives it the same HP as the GT. Take StreetSpeed's C8 up against the GT. Imagine having the same HP as the GT and C8's handling.
Same hp as a GT with the handling of a mid engined car... hmm. Sounds a bit like a GT. 4 year stint in a completely brand new platform wins 24 hours of Le Mans and 18 other races on top of it. Using an f150 motor 😂 talk about engineering

Accident riddled track day. That car with the big wing looked a lot like a Porsche GT something or other. Looking at you tracking that GT500 and the insane noise it makes is certainly pretty thrilling. Making a little extra top speed is the forte of the high horsepower Shelby but the C8 hndles certain things a little later and a little earlier. So the GT 500 has to be pressed into coming from behind on certain parts of the track. The snake sounds so mean though. AF

Both cars are very impressive . The fact that the C8 gives up almost 300HP to the GT500 and still keeps up with it is incredible .
Didn't just keep up, the C8 was faster. Noticeably faster, by the end of one lap.
That's the wonder of a mid-engine layout.

A lot of that “swatting bees” as some people call it, can be attributed to 100+ mph entries on a Michelin ps4 street tire

Ps4 tires on the track are not good. Cup 2's would literally make a 3-5 second difference.

GT500 gained only up the hill before corkscrew, just because of the power. Guess the next level C8 will be a brutal weapon

The sound of the mustang makes up for a lot of seconds on the track for me and I love FR cars and kicking the back end out... But I love both cars for sure and good driving and video SP..

Gt500 definitely top of line mustang but Corvette definitely lives up to its name. I'm sorry but no mustang ever will compete once the Z models come out.

Mustang sounds like you're blowing out an old NES game.
I think only using 2nd gear for the last and first corner you could be faster for the stang. For the vett using second before the second corner of the uphill, you will be faster. Great vid though mid engine is so much of a difference.
Love the video but maybe place a go pro somewhere in the gt500 so we can see the speed on the straights

The C8 now has aftermarket dual turbo kits for it that gives it the same HP as the GT. Take StreetSpeed's C8 up against the GT. Imagine having the same HP as the GT and C8's handling.
Same hp as a GT with the handling of a mid engined car... hmm. Sounds a bit like a GT. 4 year stint in a completely brand new platform wins 24 hours of Le Mans and 18 other races on top of it. Using an f150 motor 😂 talk about engineering

Accident riddled track day. That car with the big wing looked a lot like a Porsche GT something or other. Looking at you tracking that GT500 and the insane noise it makes is certainly pretty thrilling. Making a little extra top speed is the forte of the high horsepower Shelby but the C8 hndles certain things a little later and a little earlier. So the GT 500 has to be pressed into coming from behind on certain parts of the track. The snake sounds so mean though. AF

Looks like the C8 had better steering but Mustang had way more power and speed. Plus the Mustang exhaust sound better.
