      The factory numbers on the dash and on the PDR video playback are not reliable. I have found that when comparing the PDR's Video Times to track time slips for the 1/4 mile, they are understated by as much as -0.1933 seconds and sometimes overstated by +0.060. Only rely on track time slips or Dragy numbers.

He got a good one, just like yours.. clicking on all cylinders.. great content kid!

  • @mkygod
    @mkygod 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Im guessing the launch control isn't optimized for a super sticky drag surface. But I think its probably more likely that the wetness of the track was the main factor as you've surmised. When a very stick surface gets wet, it will actually get more slick than if it were a regular road surface getting wet with the same amount of water. The purpose of the water is to actually slick up the tire so that you can burnouts more easily to warm it. But you have evaporate the water completely on your tires by the time you line up. If you don't then the water can build up on the track as well as any potential wetness from cars that have lined up before and after you.

    Nice buddy. The new C8 is amazing & anticipating greater performance from the big brother - Z06.
    That said, do not trust your on-board computer. And yes, track prep is vital for full drag-racing performance extrapolation...along with driving skills. And yes, lack of decent track prep can result in slower times vs a fairly flat - decent street surface.
    As stated by many, buy your self a Draggy or Vbox (I've used both) - both are great tools which can allow you to only see what the car is capable of running as testing surfaces allows. Additionally, the testing results can also help you tune your driving skills (launch technique, sitting position, best tires psi and so on).
    In the end, track results is the true indicator. However, for many, track is not an easy option or an option it all due to proximity. This is also when a Draggy or Vbox shines. They will provide performance metrics close to a track...much more realistic vs factory on-board computers.
    Summary, get a Draggy or Vbox. Be safe!

As you've shown, being hooked up has a lot to do with setting the car up correctly with the driver's selection of the combination things that must be selected. There is sometimes a little more weight with a passenger that helps to limit the wheel slip. Love the way you go over the fact that this car is a "Jack-of-all-trades and Master-of-some." I see the comments that the Vette's data timer might be off. But it's the same car, same data timer. Which one is correct. You gotta try another drag strip and just for the hell of it have your buddy ride along and time it on his phone or something. You need to compare the Vette's time with another timer.

      @Mason Elam He was smart and went around the water box. People here that have never made a pass on street tires, with a car that launches this hard, will never understand that. I never went through that water box unless I was on slicks or drag radials. regular radials hold the water and the pass is over before it starts.

    The built in timer isn’t remotely close to accurate. That car is not capable of 10 seconds completely stock on street tires. It is fast and it probably can do 11.1 seconds but it won’t do sub 11 stock on stock tires.

    I talked with you at the track I had the c7 blue one . Street tires are really bad for track surface they don’t hook at all . Street tires work for you on the street because all the weight is on the rear tire it helps it transfer weight so the car can launch and stay planted to the ground

    Street tires(even high performance sticky summer tires) does not do well on dragstrip. Dragstrip are designed for full slicks or drag radials, which is a whole different compound then street tires. I learned that the hard way too, going to dragstrip many times just to run slower times than on the street.

    I have a 2020 Sebring orange C8 and tried drag racing it in the summer. Only did three races and every one I got horrible wheel hop at the lights. I didn't do the burnout pit and it's a Z51 with the tun flat tires on it. I was afraid of damaging my car. Once I did the launch and the other two races in sport and then track mode. Any idea what would cause the wheel hop? Once I got past the light tree it would hook up fine. I should mention that there no problems hooking up on the street. No wheel hop at all. Thinking maybe the track was just to sticky?

    Prepped track need drag radials. Street tires will spin like crazy, and you're lucky you didn't wreck. Non prepped surfaces, you use street tires. Prepped surfaces, you need drag radials. People that try to go all stock on drag strips are morons. Making sure you don't die, is not a mod. Change your tires on the strip. Forget that "all factory everything, including tires" crap when you go to the drag strip. It's the same with drag tires on the street. They will slip.
