I guess it needs to be said, that most of this mess was driver error. Using a low range was not a good idea, you need momentum to get up and around this mud and the steepness of the hill, not to mention to self-clean the tires. Great video and fun to watch and appreciate you putting yourself out there most would not!

First thing I ever learned about driving in mud is don't stop unless it's absolutely mandatory. I was like 5. That has saved me far more than any electronics, or any other nonsense planning. Plan on the fly, DON'T STOP.

Hmmm. All those cameras and we still stick our heads out the window to see what’s going on. 😊 For those saying MT tires would have made it doable, speculation based on the idea that he would have been willing to tear up the area as he wasn’t willing to with the ATs. And finally, bigger means stucker has always been my experience.

When Ryan began by looking at the engine and saying, "Ho-ho-ho-ho," somehow I knew we were going to be in for a fun adventure. As usual, Ryan did not let us down. He tossed rocks, logs, boulders, more rocks, branches, and even more rocks, before he ad to call in the calvary. As he mentioned at the closing just because you have a way bigger stick (engine) you could still loose the battle. This was another excellent video with humor, drama, chaos, and even more rocks. Great Saturday night entertainment!

You could have aired down, that would have helped a bunch, been running KO2's since they came out and they are crazy when aired down. You're right about the KM3 vs K02, I have the KM3's on my ZR2 Silverado, lovely tire for that truck. That being said, with more tire flex from airing down and more wheel speed like 4 HI, I think you coulda got through pretty nicely. Either way, great review :)

Word to the wise. When you are on an incline, your tires are mudded up and you have a log in front of you. . . Rock crawl mode doesn't make for enough wheel spin. If you can get them spinning, they will clear the mud and work better. :) Back up a few feet, GO! lol Does that thing have a Baja mode? Maybe that will work better next time.

To all the people complaining the truck is too big. It wasn't designed for this. The raptor is made to fly in the desert. You need the width to clear huge tires and have long suspension travel plus all the added stability.
A lot of people seem to mentioning the lack of the torsen front end. Yes, it would have been nice to have the mechanical part but the truck does have an electronic system to mimic it. On the other hand it's good that it doesn't have the torsen because with 700hp you're just asking for issues such as very harsh engagement, broken cvs or broken diff.

I've been stuck several times before and after the second time I approached it different after. The way I got out was to simply back up. That's it and it worked every time. I was stationed at Fort Drum in Upstate New York and hate it but having a Ford F-150 with 4-wheel drive came in handy. Remember my solution is simply me opinion, not not the answer unless it helps.

That mud requires special tires with a tractor type of thread to be able to get out without help. With no trees around the Ford Raptor with winch would be useless anyway. The more horsepower vehicle has the easier is to get it stuck. Also the best rule of off roading says to get enough gear and most importantly do not go alone: have other folks with other vehicles with you just in case. In the video at the end of the day the most useful for off roading was good phone connection.

The new Raptor R no longer offers a front TORSEN limited-slip differential. I think this is a mistake. It now uses brake distribution to control front wheel slip. Nissan has been using something similar called Active Braking Limited Slip (ABLS) for years. Both, my old Nissan Titan and my Xterra had this. It works ok, but not as good as a true mechanical limited slip.

Hey Ryan! I know this is quite a long shot, but I was just curious. Will you be reviewing the Toyota Tacoma 2023 anytime soon? I know you’ve already tested the 2022, and odds are, they’re quite the same, but I was just curious because I’m getting a 2023 Tacoma soon. Just wanted to see what was on the menu! Great work, and thank you for all you do!

Excellent choice buying the Tacoma I have a 21 TRD ORDC 4x4 automatic and wouldn’t trade it for any truck out there . By far best truck I’ve bought in 27years . I sold my 2017 Tacoma in 2018 and bought several other different truck brands and went right back to the Tacoma .

You ought carry some traction boards and a shovel with you. I agree BFG AT KO2 tires suck in mud but I doubt mud tires wouldn't do much better in that deep mud.

  • @fivefingerheist

Did he air down for this? I feel like that would have made quite a difference. Same tires on my badlands bronco but 33.5 inchers. At 20 PSI they handled like a champ.

That was pretty nasty mud on an uphill road. Dunno until you know, I guess. Honestly, I would have avoided those heavy muck areas like the plaque, and run through without stopping on the lesser mudholes.

I believe the raptors have the torsen front diff there are tricks to engaging it. Like tapping the brakes while accelerating and it will bind and engage Try that in the next raptor or tremor with the torsen front diff

This trucks strengths can be showcased best in the Mojave desert. Stopping in mud on a steep incline is always a no-no but cannot always be avoided. Let's see how she looks going 90 mph across a trailess desert floor, obliterating all creosote bushes in its path. This truck is built for pumping your adrenaline, and wide open desert terrain is how you make that happen.
