  • Hi! This is part 7 of our series on salvaging this awesome 1960 Plymouth Fury and putting it back on the road!
    This time we'll spend some time putting the correct dashboard back in the car, and making sure everything is tidied up and working as it should! This was a pretty involved job, but I think the results were well worth it, and I couldn't be happier with the results.
    As usual, I'd like to thank everyone who subscribed to our channel, and also for all of your likes and comments! We do genuinely appreciate that anyone would take the time to drop us a note.
    Watch this space! The CWMC website and store will be ready soon, and we do have some pretty fun stuff coming up!
    All the very best from me and Frankers and the rest of the fellas that help out on these heaps just for the laughs!
    Cheers,
    s&f

    Raise your hand if you go to the coldwarmotors homepage several times a week hoping the new Fury installment is there, and TH-cam just forgot to notify you. I'm pathetic. Man, that dashboard is outrageously fantastic! A fine presentation, Mr. Newstead.

    A man can really do quite a lot with little to no money if he's just patient and resourceful. Once again, thank you for the investment in time and extra effort that is involved in all the filming and editing that it takes to post these videos. It's nice to watch something done by real people, as opposed to some of these talking heads that run amok all over TH-cam. It lets me know that it may be worth it for me to try to post some of my own shenanigans.

    HI thIs is Tony in California. i am the guy that called you regarding the Dash pad. You are doing a great Job on the Fury. i have watched evey episode on the refurbishing of the 60 Plymouth and you are doing an incredible job. These cars are rare and in my opinion a work of art. i have restored my cars pretty much the same way you have done. But being in California the cars here do not rust at all like back east, AND UP NORTH as we all know. i just finished a restoration/ preservation of a 1962 Rambler Classic 400. it belonged to a Naval Commander here in Oakland. I was able to save the car from a relative of his who does not care about old cars. i just could not bear seeing this car neglected. Same with my 60 Fury and Savoy. All i watch now are channels like yours on restoration and or preserving these great cars of the past. Your documentation on the 60 restoration is the best on youtube right now. cant wait for the next Vid!! i will talk to you soon!

    I love it! A preserved car is so much more interesting and intriguing than a full on restoration. Something about keeping the original parts and finishes gives it character and soul that cannot be replicated. I do the exact same thing with my old motorcycles.

      @mark rylander 😳 ... and I thought it was severe in my region with -7 C over night and about 0 C days here and all white (.... yellow where the dogs stop by...). Part of the shop is slightly heated though ... You can't take the risk working with epoxy as a pro below 12, 13 C ... it would fall apart the next warm summerday.

      @mark rylander spot on, regionwise, these days ... I lived in many places on the globe though, as a liveaboard, and as a curious adventurer. One should have a winter- and a summer-residency is what I'm aiming towards now.
      somewhere in Greece for the northern winter when the tourists earn their next vacation in their cold homeregion, and the one I sit at right now for the summer when everybody else gets grilled in crowded Greece as a tourist ...

    For the plastic surround trim on the speedo buy a chrome marker pen by Molotow. Used in the hobby world as real chrome trim detail. I have the 2mm tip marker. Works really good and it is chrome not a silver paint. You can get the 1,2 and 4mm tip marker or the refill bottle. People use it in air brushes also.

    • @jasongecik9059
      @jasongecik9059 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good suggestion I use one of those pens all the time building model cars brilliant inventions.

    • @reecenewton3097
      @reecenewton3097 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That's a great idea to fix the chrome effect. Also I'd try removing the surround and heating it in the distorted area, then clamping it between wood strips to see if it would retain straightening. Another idea would be to epoxy a narrow steel strip to the back of it to keep it flat.

    • @TomHeid1
      @TomHeid1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It doesn't dull like Alclad if you coat it with clear either. Best chrome look out there IMO.

    • @plastiksurgeon9129
      @plastiksurgeon9129 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      TomHeid1
      Actually if the clear is alcohol based, it can affect the brilliance of the chrome as Molotow has alcohol in it. You want to put ‘Liquitex’ over it. It’s the stuff artists use to protect their paintings when done.
      Hope this helps!

Totally related to the color blindness segment, and was prompting you as to the tan look of the 4-5 wires in question! I almost got fired from my job in the paint department at my local Home Depot a few years ago. That is, until the home office advised my immediate supervisor that I could simply be transferred to another department. Thank God cooler heads prevailed, because we all know what it's like to have a job at the Glorious Home Depot! when you shut an engine down they usually stop in one of 3 areas on the flywheel, that is why it is important to fix that problem with the starter cut out...I wld rather replace starter than flywheel...I am not putting anyone down nothing like that, I would love to have had the chance to own a place to do this type of work, I would have lived in the garage, I grew up across the street from a salvage yard, I got to see many auto's from the past even sadly had to put some to the torch back when they were scrapping them, 57 nomads, 55 chevys, edsels, desotos even the early benz with that front door entry..automobiles were made best in the early years..best from my youth was walking around that yard and learning of all the hidden quirks on the old cars, 55 hidden gas filler gate behind the tail lamp, do what you love, love what you do...bless

    I'm always so impressed with the results you get just by tidying, cleaning, and polishing. You clearly spend a *lot* of time on these pieces -- probably stuff that most folks would give up on, and you bring them back from the brink. I just love watching this channel because of stuff like that! Really fantastic stuff!! Merry Christmas to you and Frankers!

    Seeing that thing run is a miracle, makes me happy to see it, it's audaciously cool, kinda like the original Star Trek "Enterprise".
    The push buttons on tranny controls makes a huge impression, it's the real deal. Frankers is looking good. Bless you all at coldwarmotors.

    You know it's cold when the snow "creeks" under your footsteps...We've been lucky so far out east, but that fridgid air will catch up soon enough. Nice video and nice to see some people like (love) old iron, american, french or otherwise given up for dead....

    Big treat to watch this project progress, and Fury Dave knows his old Mopars! It was a trip down Memory Lane hearing the discussion of the Stromberg two barrel Poly 318 and seeing the push button Torqueflite and heater controls. Had two old 64 Furys years ago similarly equipped. Well made, clever designs, simple, rugged.

    The dashboard looks completely out of this world. It came up beautifully. Also, how satisfying to be able to refurbish the shifter buttons like that for no cost. Hopefully you will find a zero or near zero dollar way of repairing the fab original steering wheel. Mind you, the Frazer has a lovely dash and steering wheel as well but in a completely different way.

    Nothin like a Cold Start to kick off a video! Loved it. Great job on the dash too. It really looked fine. The rear shots of this car absolutely redefine my love of those fins. I've been excited about this project from the beginning and it just gets better all the time. Ol Frankers is ready to go for a cruise. Too bad girl not quite yet! Your Dad's gonna have to do a brake job and possibly slip on some " Classic Tires" maybe!? The poly technical support was also very educational and entertaining as well 1080 and it's always fantastic seeing you Dean. BTW nice job of helping Scott get the Plymouth into the shop. Cheers!

    Yes.... your idea for changing the sleeves with the heater controls to the button shift was useful. Never know when I might need to do it. My parents have a 1960 Savoy and I have a 1960 Valiant so both push buttons. I am enjoying your videos on this build.

    I remember taking apart the dash on my grandpas '67 Chrysler Imperial. All I did was clean it up with some Spray 9 and some soap and water on the delicate parts. So much tar was removed since it had been smoke in since new. It wasn't brand new looking but took it back about 30 years. At the very least it smelled a whole lot better sitting in the car.
