First, lovely dress.... a couple of pieces of advise for you... if you do decide to make it again. You need a different kind of zipper - which uses a specialty foot - to make a fully concealed zipper. You need an invisible zipper; the one you had was a regular one. Also, that style of dress is made with the shoulder band attached at the front, shoulders, and just before the center back.. it's not a tube all the way around, but open at the back and closed in a slight overlap with hooks and eyes making it look like a single piece.
Thanks for the tips 🖤 that’s so interesting to hear about the real world versions of this dress, I haven’t seen any designs like it other than the show. I’m not sure who the costume designer was but they must have decided they didn’t want a visible seam or break in the back because it’s completely one piece in the shows interpretation of the style. Kind of wish they’d gone the authentic way though, that sounds considerably easier 😄
@@MadameMyriad It is easier actually. I suspect that the show's version is actually a separate piece that's attached with snaps in strategic locations. That would make it easier for changes during the filming... and would allow makeup and the like to be done without getting anything on the shoulder wrap.
I have an original 50's dress from my aunt it is white with turquoise polka dots. I wore it when I dressed up as I Love Lucy for Halloween. Along with a 50's purse too.
@@MadameMyriad just unzip it and let it fully dry before closing it back up. I have done it on bags before. There will probably be a little flaking over time, but if you only paint the parts that will be seen on the outside, it won't be as bad, and you can always touch it up as needed.
That’s a good shout, I don’t know why opening it didn’t occur to me 😂 I’m definitely going to try that, I’ve accepted my zips will never be concealed so this might be my go to solution from now on! Thanks for the tip 🖤
Cute Dress! Though in the 50s girdles and bullet bra's were needed, as well as a petticoat and if you desired a "Merry Widow"! Cute project nonetheless!
Thank you 😊 Yea it really needs a bit more to get the right shape, I did put in a tad extra room at the bust incase I got a bullet bra one day 😄 I had to look up what a Merry Widow was and now I’m kind of tempted to add it to my “historical undergarments to make” list, thanks for the introduction 🖤
I am completely obsessed with the show, I have every intention of making ALL of the decades 😄 You should go for it! I’m a complete beginner but I can point you in the direction of some great resources I’ve been using if you like x
The biggest thing I can recommend is following people who inspire and motivate you to do your own projects and to get a really good sewing book to use as your bible! The one I use is called Self Made Princess by Nakita Cosplay, it covers 3 types of skirt, how to do different fastenings, bodice and blouse patterns, as well as coving the basics of sewing that apply to pretty much all projects. I use the patterns from this book in pretty much everything because they can be completely adapted for what you need. Buying this book seriously gave me the confidence to actually start sewing so I 10/10 recommend finding a book that could do the same for you 😊
I wish I could actually have someone to teach me how to do this stuff 😂 I remember wasting 2 hours on my last dress trying to figure out why my machine wouldn’t sew properly only to realise it was purely because the needle was blunt. It worked like a dream as soon as I’d replaced it 😅. I’ve had a few tips on zips from this video so hopefully my next one will go a bit better 🤞🏻

That’s so cool! I would love to have some genuine vintage pieces one day 🖤
I'm the lucky 81 such a gorgeous dress!!! great job
Thank you 😊🖤
It’s beautiful, but the best part is the smile of satisfaction ♥️ great job
Thank you so much 😊 🖤
Such a cool project - you looked freaking adoreable! x
Thank you 😊🖤 I can’t tell you how fun it is to wear 😄
This turned out so cute! If you want to hide the zipper, just get some paint that is close to the same color of the fabric and paint over it.
That’s exactly what I thought about doing! I was too afraid I’d end up painting the zip shut 😅 have you tried doing it before?

beautiful dress! thanks for the subtitles too!
Thank you ☺️
BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you! 🖤
I know you said you would use taffeta if you made it again, but I honestly really like the more slinky drape of this version!
Aww, thank you ☺️ I do as well to be honest, my obsessive brain is just so aware that it doesn’t match the show 😂
you could do a lapped zipper that would conceal the zipper, and you don't have to buy an invisible zipper foot, you can do it without one.
That’s a good idea, I might look up how to do that for next time, thank you😊
WAIT I AM A BIG FAN OF WANDAVISION. THE DRESS LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME. I love ittt

Thank you so much 😊 🖤 I hope you enjoy your sewing journey too x Let me know how your first project goes 🥰
Wish I was there to teach you how to sew in a zipper. It really is not that difficult and there are several ways to insert one.
