    I hope you enjoyed me testing the waters in finding some Wandavision outfits but in true vintage patterns. If you enjoyed this type of video please let me know what show you want to see next!

    This is the kinda content the mainstream media consumers need when obsessing over popular shows

      Thank you so much! I was hoping so, instead of the inevitable "vintage reproduction" patterns that will come out of this show.

    9:56 Vogue 5038 from the 60’s is almost an exact match for the bow/collar/sleeve/Bertha situation!

    I crochet. I love to crochet. I'm good at crochet, but I can't knit. The way you talked about knitting is exactly how I feel about it. Flailing hands included. This was a wonderful video. Thanks. Wouldn't mind seeing more like this. Patterns for historic influenced cosplay.

    there might be a "playsuit" or romper pattern that would do as a base for the magician assistant outfit, some of those are pretty daring. ( for "modern" techniques there are drafting tutorials for playboy-bunny style structured bodysuits, but that veers away from the point of finding vintage to base it off.)

    Not seen WV but I would not be surprised if it was deliberately Historic-ish not Historic Accurate. my fave historic show Poirot is in amorphous Deco Time. I know Damn well they cheated on non principal characters with revival wardrobe from the 80s & some of the buildings are 50s futurists but that just makes the World all the more Immersive. Similarly it sounds like the Historic elements on WV are made to be an exaggerated memory of the times as opposed to an accurate portray. And, this may be done as an inside joke or an artistic statement but whatever if it works it works! great show! would love more like this

  • @giovanninasuluh
    @giovanninasuluh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    For the magicians’s assistant costume, I’d suggest a 1950s maillot/one piece swimsuit pattern similar to Butterick 6536 (1953 I think) or McCalls 3977 from 1956 (omit skirt) designed by Emilio Pucci.
    When I was 16, I owned a vintage swim that was very similar to Wanda’s outfit but mine was pastel blue gingham, not blinged to eternity.

  • @SewRena
    @SewRena 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know I’m late but simplicity 1154 would work for the wedding dress you would have to alter the skirt. But I love this dress. I made it for Christmas
    Simplicity 2763 is close for the bow dress

    I loved this video. And I also agree with the whole bolero situation. The top part of that outfit took me right out of the era and back to reality. It just looked wrong and bugged me a lot.

  • @SupernovaBetty

    Vogue’s vintage pattern line 1094 has a nice drop waist and a boat neck. I’m partial to it because I made my wedding dress from it 🥰

    as a knitter i have seen 1950s knit boleros in this shape, however the bolero in the show is definitely machine knit so you would need to knit in an extremely fine gauge to get that look. Most of the knitting patterns i have seen for boleros are usually a batwing or raglan style sleeve over the set in sleeve of her bolero.

    That was fun to see those old patterns. I remember some of them. I graduated high school in 73. I tried to find more things that were Edwardian and Victorian in style. I loved Simplicity 8305 the Tiered Dress. I wore that out to dinner, to parties, BBQs; it got a lot of wear. I also had an empire waist dress pattern too. I haven't seen the pattern yet when looking through old patterns on your website or any of the others. My mom's philosophy was to throw the pattern out once you made it. I tried to keep it but sometimes she would go through my things and all of a sudden they were gone. (Like when I went to Summer or Winter camp every year, not only as a camper but as a teacher or cook when I got older.) I now have crates of patterns ....

  • @graceanne596
    @graceanne596 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    For Wanda's wedding dress McCall's 4008 is really close. The only difference is that it has a flat front panel for the skirt and it's a teen pattern. But the skirt is an easy fix and most people won't be expexting to find their exact size anyway. And for the bow dress, Advance's 5436 looks very similar besides the buttons down the front of the bodice.

  • @yuebing7

    There were actually a lot of similar rounded boleros in the 50s and 60s, but (as you mentioned) they were usually knitted. There are some really nice reproduction patterns on Etsy if anyone needs a starting point.

    The modern looking bolero is what my grandmother used to call a "soul warmer" (directly translated from norwegian). I googled "sjelevarmer" and found several examples, all knitted. Not sure how old the consept is, but my grandmother was born in 1915 and died in 2003. I remember her wearing hers and it was well worn back then.

    Wedding Dress-McCalls 4008 is pretty close too. Bow Neck Dress-Simplicity 1620 & 1982. Magicians Outfit-Lutterloh swimsuit from 1950s is really close! Vogue 7677 is good too. Simplicity 9723 for Monica’s shirt. Simplicity 3746 has a fabulous rounded bolero. Vogue 9311 is really close to Wanda’s outfit in Ep 3.

    I know I’m late to the party but as a Wanda lover and hopeful Wanda cosplayer this is hella helpful. Thank you so much for this! I’ve been looking for the shirt dress pattern since the behind the scenes photos dropped. From watching your presentations I had a realization. My sisters and I always wondered why my mother always had to wear a belt. Her waist had long since departed and her bust had gone south. She was a young woman in the time period that these styles were popular and looked good in them. Sadly she never acknowledged that ship has sailed.

    I ended up getting Simplicity 3384 for the 50s bow dress. Technically theres no bow on the simplicity pattern but the detachable collar looked the closest I could find and I plan on extending the collar and adding the bow. I plan on making a few of these outfits. You could go to a whole con and just be wanda from the series!

  • @xCielorosax
    @xCielorosax 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This was super cool to watch! I actually already bought Simplicity printed pattern 1319 from 1955 for Wanda’s shirtwaist dress. I’ve resigned myself to the fact that it’s not as exact of a match as I’d have liked but I liked the collar so I’m going to tinker around with a mockup to get it a bit closer. I.e. getting rid of the button down front on the skirt and flaring it out a bit more, etc. It’s a good enough base for me to do so anyway.

    The wedding dress is an exact duplicate of the wedding dress in the Audrey Hepburn film, Funny Face. Even as a very little girl when I first saw it on Saturday afternoon movies, I found the dress stunning. My wedding dress was exactly like the bow neckline dress, only my dress was full length and the drape around the shoulders was larger and stiffer. I got married in 1990 and it was a high end wedding dress that was fashionable then, so maybe look for the pattern from the late 1980s. I love the vintage look.
