Make sure to replace the thermal pads, they usually only last about 10 years before starting to dry up, people have been reporting their ps2’s dying because they were using factory thermal pads still after 20+ years.
That's a non-issue. I haven't seen any issues with the big thermal pads when restoring piles of these. The only dried pads I've seen were on a couple of smaller chips under the DVD drive.
Great video, thanks! Is it necessary to actually take this fully apart to clean though? Wouldn't just opening it and using a good can of compressed air work pretty well and do the job or do I really need to do all of this :/
Lol. I haven’t made a decision on what to do with these once I am done. For now they are sitting in the shelf behind my recording station. For the systems that work, I may sell them on ebay eventually 🤷♂️
Nice! But a tip- I found it slightly less annoying to plug in the fan before the expansion bay housing and cover. Gives more free room to plug it in. You did it like it was nothing though haha.
You don't need to separate every piece of metal from the plastic parts. I never do that and i even wash sometimes the metal plates in soapy water. I doesn't rust. And i use a soft brush for Mainboards and fans to clean them. And I lubricate the moving parts in disc drives with oil or paste.
I pulled this up to help me deep clean mine and oh my god the sheer number of cockroachs inside that poor console was sickening. Just got this pre-owned and i knew there were problems with the battery and disk drive so I opened it up to that lovely surpirse. Still working on it.
Do you see much improvement in performance? If you could quantify it in percentage terms, would it be minimal or significant like twenty or thirty percent?
I don’t think I did…but I filmed this a while ago. I would not recommend using a magic eraser on a board. I use them occasionally on heavily stained matte plastics. And that with caution.
I saw someone saying on another video, "Do not remove the power and eject ribbon cable from the console, remove it from the buttons" is that what you're doing here?
My ps2 is 13 yrs old got cleaned it yesterday unfortunately it didn't revive after deep cleaning some parts are rusty and i have limited spare parts after turning it on i smell like wire burned huhu I'm sad about i guess time to buy another one i was still playing splintercell series and transformer my tav of all time, i got screwed on the ribbon si there any pattern for it?
After watching you clean that small fan I think you could do a video cleaning big fans. Those things get soooo gross. We have a couple at home for you.
Hello bro i last use ps2 without cleaning bcoz my age 10 to 13 i don't know these matters things ps2 without cleaning overheat and fan sound my ear crashes any way thanks detail video ❤

I don't know why but these console cleaning videos are so satisfying and addictive
Wow, crazy how it looks brand new! I get so much nostalgia seeing this.
Great video! You should show the q-tip graveyard at the end to show just how dirty this truly was! Just found your channel, subscribed!
That's a good idea! Welcome to my channel!
That battery yeeted itself into another dimension lol.
Lol
The disc drive's laser rails/motor shaft and tray assembly require additional cleaning and lubrication.
I’ve been thinking about cracking open my ps2 for a couple of years to clean and do some up grades, but man does it look delicate to me.
It's a little intimidating at first but totally doable.
Just watch out for that gamepad board ribbon cable, it's pretty fragile. Other than that it's pretty easy tbh
Gotta be careful with the magic eraser, I could see you left some shiny spots in the case.
😂 the anxiety I get from seeing it dismantled
Lol

How do you decide what to clean next and who gets to play with the clean machines? 😁

This is hands down the best video. Thank you very much. Only thing that is not said is how too wipe carefully the laser, everything else was top!
Good catch. Ill try to make sure I don’t overlook noting that in the future 🙂
@@RestorishOfficiallove ur videos keep up! We need ppl like you 🤞🏽
How did you removed the scratches from the up cover?
Nice!!! Gotta ps2 (35000) here needing to be cracked open and deep cleaned, not looking forward to it 😅
Thought you're not supposed to use magic erasers with the cases? That it actually ruins the finishing of the console
Magic erasers are very lightly abrasive. If overused they can take off a finish. The amount I use them gets the dirt & stains off but not the finish
Great video! I have a question, Do you also re-paint them or something?
Thanks! All I have done is clean to this point
The PS2 is no longer under warranty because it's over 15 years old
Any tips on restoring the back sticker with exact ps2 batch/gen number?
One doubt? 4:27 tray filled solution name and 4:54 buds dip that solution name explain me bro
Did you use a magic eraser to scrub down the board? I was always curious if that does harm to console cleanings
I don’t think I did…but I filmed this a while ago. I would not recommend using a magic eraser on a board. I use them occasionally on heavily stained matte plastics. And that with caution.

Risk of Electric Shock Do Not Open
Just avoid the capacitors mostly and you'll be fine
I have a chip on my motherboard that says ripper iv is that okay
Just subbed
how to clean the CD lens?
What was the battery even for?
I think it helps keep an internal clock and some important data in memory if the system is unplugged

Thank you
did it still work ?
