Hey, I just wanted to say that I followed your guide, and everything works flawlessly! I have several fat PS2 consoles, but one of them specifically can't read *any* discs anymore. It's also my oldest PS2 (bought day one in 2000!), so it's so awesome to be able to use it again rather than let it sit and collect dust. I copied almost my entire PS2 library to my PC using my actual discs, and everything works better than I could have ever expected. I gotta say something about that OPL menu displaying in crisp HD on my unmodified console from 2000 is oddly satisfying.

Tried other tutorials first and always failed at some point. Followed your tutorial and everything is working perfectly. Thank you so much! A few tips from my side: 1. Disable Windows Defender before doing the HDD Art Batcher part. 2. Formatting the drive on the PS2 may take some time, don't panic if your PS2 seems unresponsive during the process. 3. The OFS Batchkit Manager needs a lot of time to transfer the ART folder if you are using the HDD. I mean A LOT.

My only issue with this tutorial video is just that I would have much appreciated you covering a quick rundown of both methods in the beginning of the video. Would have saved a bunch of wasted time on my end because I wanted to just drag and drop games via my pc onto my hdd instead of using usb drives to move over games like in the first method. I appreciate the effort in this guide nonetheless and it helped me a lot since this is my third time doing this and so much has changed in the ps2 scene that all my software regarding modding tools were years outdated. BTW some games, particularly Half Life & Blue Shift require the “PS2 Logo” setting to be turned OFF. Otherwise you can get some really weird audio glitches.
I tried following your 2nd method, I already have a FMCB memory card that I have purchased online. All I did is download the Grimdoomer OPL, transferred it to USB, copied and pasted the beta ELF file in the APPS folder and the BOOT folder (since I couldn't find already existing ELF file on the FMCB memory card under the BOOT folder) and restarted the PS2, I dont see the "Open PS2 Loader" in the start up menu what I see is the OPNPS2LD and it looks nothing like the one you have. Edit: It ended up working after I deleted 3 other OPNPS2LDs that were in the BOOT folder of the stock FMCB memory card, really enjoy the exFat format. Thanks!
@@dreijdreijdreij The FMCB memory card I got from Amazon had all their ELF files in the Apps folder, for some reason the Grimdoomer ELF file wouldn't show up in the main menu with the other ELF files present.
@ Did you delete all ELF-files on the memory card? I added it to apps now to test, but I see the old ”display name” of OPL in the launcher anyhow. Interestingly. Will keep on trying. Thanks for helping.
@dreijdreijdreij I ended up removing the OPNPS2LD.ELF and I think there were 2 other files that started with OPN that I had to remove from the BOOT folder before pasting Grimdoomer ELF file in the BOOT folder. I also pasted Grimdoomer ELF file in the APPS folder for good measure and it works for me. Edit: You can delete the original ELF OPN files from the card or cut and paste them on a USB if ever you want to use them in the future.
This is one of the newest updates for this stuff I have seen... Great work. One question, many have mentioned that starting the PS2 with FHDB is much slower than the FMCB. I should be getting my sata to PS2 adapter tomorrow and should be able to answer this myself, but any insight you have on Pros and Cons would be greatly apreciated. Thanks for the Great Work.
Im using an IDE hdd, not because I don't have SATA drives (I build PC's and have tons), but because the ps2 I bought came with the og network adapter and I don't want to mod it to accept SATA. Luckily I have a bunch of old IDE drives that need to be put to good use!!!! I think the biggest one I have is 320gb and the smallest is 80gb. yes we're going old school, but hey, its a 2000 console might as well use time appropriate hardware

My PS2 gets hung up at 10:45 . How long does it take to reset? Mine just gets stuck on a black screen after FHDB reformat and then doesnt boot back into the harddrive free mcboot
I don’t get the part on method #2 how you install the FMCB on Memcard. Couldn’t we just drag and drop the file on PC by pulling out the SD card from the Memcard? Or it is me just misunderstood something. Need a clarification
im stuck at 19:15 _PFS-Batch-Kit etc. wont open the admin cmd prompt on win 11. tried to run as admin and regular way neither work for for me plse help
figured it out... kinda something about having moved the file to a different folder made it not work. found the original file from where it was downloaded to and used that and its working. new update on the batchkit manager you now need to go into [3] OPL Management, [1] Transfer OPL Resources, and proceed as per video
If youre doing method 1 when setting up your +OPL partition set it to 3051gb or what ever is close to that otherwise the partition for the art wont be big enough for all those files. I know he said to do that 1.5gb size one but it always failed. I spent 3 days fixing it and now it works when I do that. I restarted about 10 times. HOURS of transfering later and now it works.
@jamiemcguire2399 I'm not sure I didn't try that because it kept messing up and for some reason the drive ended up being formatted as mbt instead of gbt. You might be able to expand the partition but I had already started from scratch again and made it 3gbs just to try. I also found you need to let the art fully load before starting or opl will freeze

Got the exfat setup going perfectly using Grimdoomer's opl, but I'm not seeing the options to setup pademu for ps3 controllers via bluetooth. Anybody know of a workaround?
Ok so I got it working, but for whatever reason I can't get the virtual memory cards to work (VMC) in OPL, even after setting them up for each game. It says it made them, but it actually doesn't and nothing is saved or made. How does one go about fixing this?
so the weird thing is I followed these exact same steps for a 4tb drive but it black screen hangs whenever I try to load any game in OPL. Gave up and went back to the old APA formatted version since it lets you use FHDB, same Grimdoomer OPL version, same settings, works perfectly. I double checked the sector size and it's 512 on both... drives in question are both Samsung 850 EVO, a 2tb and a 4tb.
When I run the batch installer to load ISOs, it says "no PS2 drive detected", although I can see the drive is being detected in the CMD window inbehind/showing output. The drive is being seen in windows and freeHD boot worked on 2 separate drives, I added the +OPL partition, everything else seems to have worked besides....any ideas? I'm running everything as admin, I tried HD batch tool on another computer with the drive and it still isn't detected as a ps2 drive in the software...(I'm not/didn't format the drive when I connected it back to my pc)
i have a 3tb hdd internel hard drive for my ps2.. it does great when i boot into opl grim doomer edition. it shows all the box art and disc art. the problem im having is i press x to run a game and i get nothing no ps2 logo or and anything. it just stays on the black screen. can you help me out? i have a gamestar ps2 adapter.
Hey there! I’m shaving trouble with getting games to show up in OPL. My drive is formatted correctly and my game files (.iso files created using img burn) are in the correct folders (DVD,CD). I’m at my wits end on why nothing is showing up. Any ideas?

I would like to ask you if there is any useful .STL file which you may recommend, in order to serve as a holding tray under the SSD which is connected to the SATA port, so that the SSD drive doesn't move around too much inside the console.

@@lostsaves i downloaded all those 60k pics and nothing is showing up under the ART folder. Made sure the Cover Art option is on and info as well. Also can you explain how the theme file thing work as well. I downloaded themes but I get a bunch numbers and frozen screen.

If you’re using the whole library of art yes it will take a very long time. It has to queue up all the files before it copies. Might start with just the SLUS files if you’re playing a NA console/games
So I followed all the exfat steps until 34:45 except I'm seeing 4 different opl's. Only the last one had the option for block devices but did not have an hdd option. I open HD loader and it says formatting in progress so I assume it's formatting my drive which I know can't be good so I shut the system down and pull the drive out and now my computer is not recognizing my drive UPDATE: I screwed up, lost 300gb worth of games I did prep work for but anyway I reformatted, I accidentally open opl from the file browser and I finally see the correct opl menu, this menu is now showing up in the main browser. Through this i was able to find my hdd and play a game but when I exit it does not show up
I started with method 1 and it won't even format the damn HDDs. It says failed to format. I have tried 2 HDDs (3.5") and (2.5") and both have the same result. I did method 2 and it still won't show the games list in OPL (grimmdoomer's). I have been doing this for 3 weeks and it feels like I'm just wasting my time and money.
If you could do a follow up to this video to show how to get OPL to recognise POPSTARTER and the PS1 vcd files that'd be Massively appreciated, I'm very stuck. I managed to get the VMCs to work for PS1 and PS2 games, I got the disc switching to work for the PS1 games. I can only launch PS1 games if I make a fresh .ELF file for each game, it's supposed to be recognisable from the Open PS2 Launcher but I keep going round in circles.
Can someone tell me what is the purpose of the FreeMcBoot memory card? This seems to work perfectly without it so I don't understand the point of getting one.
For some reason, OPL is *incredibly* slow at loading the box art images using method 2. Any idea what I could change to try to help this? It's quite annoying as it makes you load every games images in the list to scroll to the next game in the list. maybe I have a setting wrong somewhere? I tried googling but haven't found much information other than other people having the same issue with them also not getting answers. any help is really appreciated!
im having the same issue right now with my art for grim doomers OPL build... im trying to troubleshoot this as of this comment. in the meantime, are you using the entire art library from the internet archive?
TL/DR: I am misssing components in one method or the other. Help?!?! First, I love your video. You explain things very well. However, heres my dilemma... in doing the first method, i was able to successfully get all my games to load, but no artwork because when I went to transfer everything to the Hdd, the artwork files part sat there for 6 hours with no movement. I had to give up on having the beautiful artwork. No themes available either. Then I tried method 2. Everything seemed to go smoothly. ( I used my previously acquired fmcb. ) But when I try to go into my games, i get error 200 message that no hdd is found. Please help

PFS batchkit manager keeps getting caught on the installing que. I left it for almost 3 hours and there was no movement. what did I do wrong? I followed your directions to the letter.
I heard getting ps1 games can be more complicated but was that before this update? Do i have to make a seperate folder? Or would it be better to just play them off a seperate usb?
There are a ton of these guides on this platform. None of them tell you what to do if things don't go as intended. In future videos, please cover issues that may arise and how to mitigate them. My PS2 boots into free mcboot but when I select the file manager I just get a black screen. This will honestly take more time then it is worth to troubleshoot. Would have been nice to not have to rifle through google to figure it out and have a few common problems explained in this video.
The files in the link for the themes are the same cover art as what is in the art folder, just a lot less? is this correct? Also is there any zip with all the apps? the link only brings up a forum ? Thanks
The themes link goes to the forum where people post their themes so you can pick and choose and download. The art link goes to an archive.org hosting of all the cover art. Very different links, not at all the same files

Hey man! Thanks again, but I got a Q! I bought a FMCB card, and it has all the folders, but I believe it was pre configured to load a custom list of apps, as no apps are in the APPS folder in the card, they're all in a BOOT folder. There were also preconfigured settings in OPL, once I was able to get it to load from within said BOOT folder. Would you know where in the card these config settings are stored, and how I can "reset" them? Thanks for any advice!😊
re format the card. he shows how in the video up until 8:38, and then go to 27:40 you can see the option to format MC and basically “reset” them and then just install fmcb again
No joy. Tried multiple different USBs and the system still goes through the the PS2 browser. Followed the instructions to the letter.. Why might this not be working for me? On my 10th try now...
Great video man but not all my games show up on my exfat hdd and i dont know why. I got the games on the Reddit and they work fine on my pc but somehow they are not all showing on the ps2. There is also a version of u/wLaunche that can apparently ready the hdd in exfat but its unfortunately not working on my end. The games in question are Midnight Club 3, San Andreas, soulcalibur 3 and so on. My hdd is a WD Blue 500g I would be thankful for advice.
After following step by step, OPL doesn't see the games on my HDD at all when I press O to see games, nothing happens, but the games are definitely there 🤔

From what i can tell I need to only download a game file then extract it, then move over the single iso file to the dvd folder. The iso is 1.5gb. Then, the opl should have it and I can play it using this method. Is that correct?
Having so many issues. lol. Is there any way to use a PS2 Slim and a USB drive witht he exFAT boot method? I do have an HDD Adapter, but getting hold of a resonably priced PSt Fat in the UK is mad. lol.

@@Lazoli23 you add new games in method 1 by using a usb drive to your computer and then putting those games on that usb drive. then u plug that drive into your ps2 and u transfer over the games via ulaunchelf. I wouldnt recommend this method as it is extremely tedious and feels super outdated.
newest OPL beta is very buggy, I had 401 disk error and unable to save settings. I tried version 1.1.0 and it works fine. So if anyone has problems like this try older non-beta OPL.
I am having issues at 8:14 . After flashing the “__mbr.raw” to my brand new SSD, it succeeded. I turned off the PS2, plugged in the SSD and attached the adapter, and turned on the console, but it sits for a bit before eventually loading up the main system menu. Not sure what I am missing. I re-flashed the drive and no dice. Any help?
I'm using the "Game Star" adapter and a Kingston 960GB A400 SSD. Wondering if the latter is the issue. I purchased a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD to try and see if that works. Additionally, should the "Game Star" adapter fit snuggly to the PS2? Mine seems to attach but doesn't take much force at all to remove it.
I have the same crucial 2tb drive... I tried method 2 and no games are showing up in the list. I have CD and DVD games on my drive and nothing shows. Am I screwed? do I need a different drive?

@@asdf52708 i think theres a masterlist of compatible drives somewhere but that may not apply to this build of opl im in the same boat after getting a few games on here idk if 240gigs is enough

Some games needs specific modes enabled. You can search on Google for your game. Search on OPL compatibility list. Look for your game and see if you need to enable any of the modes.
in method 2 when i copy the new opl it gget disappear from the FCMB loading menu and i have to open it manually through LaunchElf , anyone got a solution ?
You need to navigate to FMCB Configurator. After you started it go to Configure OSDSYS options then go down to Configure item 1 and scroll right with Dpad until you see first empty entry select it (or if you see OPL in the list pick that). Now give it a name. Then go down to Path 1 and press Square (it makes it find OPL no matter if you put your card in slot 1 or 2) and navigate to your OPL elf file and select it. Return to first menu by pressing triangle multiple times. Now you have to save this. Go to Save CNF to MCx x = the slot you have the card in. Slot 1 is 0 and slot 2 is 1. Now you are done.
If I was to start out by just updating to the grim OPL while leaving all the games that I previously managed the “old” way on the HDD would it affect functionality?
@@lostsaves so glad I stared with just the OPL update and didn’t format my existing drive. Realizing now that long after I did my PS2, I converted all my ISO’s to CHD to free up more space on my USB drive for emulation on my Xbox series X and did not retain my ISO files. 😭 At least I’ll have something to do to keep me busy for a while!
Any ideas why I can't get the HDD option to show up? I have tried over and over again but it never shows up. I'm using a pre-made FMCB card that I bought less than a week ago. I have downloaded the specialty grimdoomer file and put it on my USB drive, and copied it to replace the old file that was in there using the ps2. It copies over fine but whenever I go into the program after I have no option for HDD. My only guess is it's something to do with the pre-made card. It has what appears to be 3 different listings for different versions of OPL. They are listed as.. OPNPS2LD(v0.9.3), OPNPS2LD(v1.1.0 10th), and OPNPS2LD(v1.2.0 MX4) I have tried all of them and no luck. The free MCBoot version of the card is 1.966. Is it something to do with these versions not being compatible? I'm at a total loss of what to do..
It sounds like you might just be replacing sitting versions and not the one set to run from FMCB. Here’s something to try: navigate to the flash drive in wlaunchELF and try just straight running it from the flash drive
When I locate the file in unlanchelf on my usb drive and click it to run, it goes to a black screen and flickers a little like it might load then nothing other than a black screen. It's probably something I'm doing wrong or missing. I'm an auto technician by trade but I've dabbled in computers and stuff for many years. Just not an expert when it comes to stuff like this hah.
@@lostsaves Hey so just an update, I figured it out. The file I had to replace ended up being in the BOOT folder. There was three different OPL file versions listed but on of them was the identical name as the new file. I copied it into that folder to replace it and now when I go under the OPNPS2LD(v1.2.0 MX4) it gives me the HDD option to turn it on and off. Must be something weird with how this premade card is. But I figured id mention it in case you or someone else runs across this issue.

Anyone else have a blank page in their OPL next to their HDD page? Block devices are off besides HDD (and USB oc) but it always boots into an empty page and I have to go over to my games.
You can't add an HDD/SSD to the back and of a slim. But you can use either SMB or MX4SIO to load games on your slim. To install FMCB you can use an exploit called FreeDVDBoot. But if you have a 9000 serie ps2 FMCB doesn't work. You need to install FunTuna or OpenTuna instead.

Im using an IDE hdd, not because I don't have SATA drives (I build PC's and have tons), but because the ps2 I bought came with the og network adapter and I don't want to mod it to accept SATA. Luckily I have a bunch of old IDE drives that need to be put to good use!!!! I think the biggest one I have is 320gb and the smallest is 80gb. yes we're going old school, but hey, its a 2000 console might as well use time appropriate hardware
Yeah and you can fill the IDE drives with whatever youd like and you can swap when needed!

My PS2 gets hung up at 10:45 . How long does it take to reset? Mine just gets stuck on a black screen after FHDB reformat and then doesnt boot back into the harddrive free mcboot

you put bin/cues in the CD folder yet OPL doesn’t recognize them in that format iirc.
yeah I tried putting the .bin/.cue files in folders, and by themselves and my games list will not show anything in OPL

I don’t get the part on method #2 how you install the FMCB on Memcard. Couldn’t we just drag and drop the file on PC by pulling out the SD card from the Memcard? Or it is me just misunderstood something. Need a clarification

figured it out... kinda something about having moved the file to a different folder made it not work. found the original file from where it was downloaded to and used that and its working. new update on the batchkit manager you now need to go into [3] OPL Management, [1] Transfer OPL Resources, and proceed as per video

If youre doing method 1 when setting up your +OPL partition set it to 3051gb or what ever is close to that otherwise the partition for the art wont be big enough for all those files. I know he said to do that 1.5gb size one but it always failed. I spent 3 days fixing it and now it works when I do that. I restarted about 10 times. HOURS of transfering later and now it works.
Can you just go back to that step and repartition it for 3051gb or do you have to start everything from scratch and reformat everything?
@jamiemcguire2399 I'm not sure I didn't try that because it kept messing up and for some reason the drive ended up being formatted as mbt instead of gbt. You might be able to expand the partition but I had already started from scratch again and made it 3gbs just to try.
I also found you need to let the art fully load before starting or opl will freeze

Ok so I got it working, but for whatever reason I can't get the virtual memory cards to work (VMC) in OPL, even after setting them up for each game. It says it made them, but it actually doesn't and nothing is saved or made. How does one go about fixing this?
so the weird thing is I followed these exact same steps for a 4tb drive but it black screen hangs whenever I try to load any game in OPL. Gave up and went back to the old APA formatted version since it lets you use FHDB, same Grimdoomer OPL version, same settings, works perfectly.
I double checked the sector size and it's 512 on both... drives in question are both Samsung 850 EVO, a 2tb and a 4tb.
So the PS2 games i have on the drive for method 2 show perfectly but I can't seem to get ps1 games to show up.

When I run the batch installer to load ISOs, it says "no PS2 drive detected", although I can see the drive is being detected in the CMD window inbehind/showing output. The drive is being seen in windows and freeHD boot worked on 2 separate drives, I added the +OPL partition, everything else seems to have worked besides....any ideas? I'm running everything as admin, I tried HD batch tool on another computer with the drive and it still isn't detected as a ps2 drive in the software...(I'm not/didn't format the drive when I connected it back to my pc)
i have a 3tb hdd internel hard drive for my ps2.. it does great when i boot into opl grim doomer edition. it shows all the box art and disc art. the problem im having is i press x to run a game and i get nothing no ps2 logo or and anything. it just stays on the black screen. can you help me out? i have a gamestar ps2 adapter.

@@lostsaves i downloaded all those 60k pics and nothing is showing up under the ART folder. Made sure the Cover Art option is on and info as well. Also can you explain how the theme file thing work as well. I downloaded themes but I get a bunch numbers and frozen screen.

If you’re using the whole library of art yes it will take a very long time. It has to queue up all the files before it copies.
Might start with just the SLUS files if you’re playing a NA console/games
Is there FMV Skipping in the ExFat method, and how does it compare to using a regular usb stick (that can be prone to fmv issues)
So I followed all the exfat steps until 34:45 except I'm seeing 4 different opl's. Only the last one had the option for block devices but did not have an hdd option. I open HD loader and it says formatting in progress so I assume it's formatting my drive which I know can't be good so I shut the system down and pull the drive out and now my computer is not recognizing my drive
UPDATE: I screwed up, lost 300gb worth of games I did prep work for but anyway I reformatted, I accidentally open opl from the file browser and I finally see the correct opl menu, this menu is now showing up in the main browser. Through this i was able to find my hdd and play a game but when I exit it does not show up
I put the games on the HDD like he did in the video and I don't know how to get the games to start.
I started with method 1 and it won't even format the damn HDDs. It says failed to format. I have tried 2 HDDs (3.5") and (2.5") and both have the same result. I did method 2 and it still won't show the games list in OPL (grimmdoomer's). I have been doing this for 3 weeks and it feels like I'm just wasting my time and money.
For method 2, what is the max storage size? & Are there any SSD's that have the 512 Bites per Sector?

If you could do a follow up to this video to show how to get OPL to recognise POPSTARTER and the PS1 vcd files that'd be Massively appreciated, I'm very stuck.
I managed to get the VMCs to work for PS1 and PS2 games, I got the disc switching to work for the PS1 games.
I can only launch PS1 games if I make a fresh .ELF file for each game, it's supposed to be recognisable from the Open PS2 Launcher but I keep going round in circles.
Were you able to play PS2 CD games in bin cue format? I've had to convert to iso to get them to work. Otherwise everything else works so far.
Can someone tell me what is the purpose of the FreeMcBoot memory card? This seems to work perfectly without it so I don't understand the point of getting one.

For some reason, OPL is *incredibly* slow at loading the box art images using method 2. Any idea what I could change to try to help this? It's quite annoying as it makes you load every games images in the list to scroll to the next game in the list. maybe I have a setting wrong somewhere? I tried googling but haven't found much information other than other people having the same issue with them also not getting answers. any help is really appreciated!
I did find the setting to turn off cover art, but it would be nice to add it back if there is a proper fix

First, I love your video. You explain things very well. However, heres my dilemma... in doing the first method, i was able to successfully get all my games to load, but no artwork because when I went to transfer everything to the Hdd, the artwork files part sat there for 6 hours with no movement. I had to give up on having the beautiful artwork. No themes available either.
Then I tried method 2. Everything seemed to go smoothly.
( I used my previously acquired fmcb. )
But when I try to go into my games, i get error 200 message that no hdd is found.

You need to format you 2tb HHD to GPT instead of MBR use grimmdoomer build.

Having them on a separate USB doesn’t really change that
There are a ton of these guides on this platform. None of them tell you what to do if things don't go as intended. In future videos, please cover issues that may arise and how to mitigate them. My PS2 boots into free mcboot but when I select the file manager I just get a black screen. This will honestly take more time then it is worth to troubleshoot. Would have been nice to not have to rifle through google to figure it out and have a few common problems explained in this video.

The themes link goes to the forum where people post their themes so you can pick and choose and download.
The art link goes to an archive.org hosting of all the cover art.

Hey man! Thanks again, but I got a Q! I bought a FMCB card, and it has all the folders, but I believe it was pre configured to load a custom list of apps, as no apps are in the APPS folder in the card, they're all in a BOOT folder. There were also preconfigured settings in OPL, once I was able to get it to load from within said BOOT folder. Would you know where in the card these config settings are stored, and how I can "reset" them? Thanks for any advice!😊
re format the card. he shows how in the video up until 8:38, and then go to 27:40 you can see the option to format MC and basically “reset” them and then just install fmcb again
No joy. Tried multiple different USBs and the system still goes through the the PS2 browser. Followed the instructions to the letter.. Why might this not be working for me? On my 10th try now...

Great video man but not all my games show up on my exfat hdd and i dont know why. I got the games on the Reddit and they work fine on my pc but somehow they are not all showing on the ps2. There is also a version of u/wLaunche that can apparently ready the hdd in exfat but its unfortunately not working on my end.
The games in question are Midnight Club 3, San Andreas, soulcalibur 3 and so on. My hdd is a WD Blue 500g

Ok so, in OPL settings you have to set the hard drive up then SAVE first. Keeping this here in case it helps anyone else in the future

From what i can tell I need to only download a game file then extract it, then move over the single iso file to the dvd folder. The iso is 1.5gb. Then, the opl should have it and I can play it using this method. Is that correct?

@@Lazoli23 you add new games in method 1 by using a usb drive to your computer and then putting those games on that usb drive. then u plug that drive into your ps2 and u transfer over the games via ulaunchelf. I wouldnt recommend this method as it is extremely tedious and feels super outdated.
newest OPL beta is very buggy, I had 401 disk error and unable to save settings. I tried version 1.1.0 and it works fine. So if anyone has problems like this try older non-beta OPL.

I am having issues at 8:14 . After flashing the “__mbr.raw” to my brand new SSD, it succeeded. I turned off the PS2, plugged in the SSD and attached the adapter, and turned on the console, but it sits for a bit before eventually loading up the main system menu. Not sure what I am missing. I re-flashed the drive and no dice. Any help?
I'm using the "Game Star" adapter and a Kingston 960GB A400 SSD. Wondering if the latter is the issue. I purchased a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD to try and see if that works. Additionally, should the "Game Star" adapter fit snuggly to the PS2? Mine seems to attach but doesn't take much force at all to remove it.
Looks like the Kingston SSD was the bottleneck.
I bought the memcard pro2 and have had issues with games loading the saves since I purchased. I have to eject and put it back. Really annoying.

Some games needs specific modes enabled. You can search on Google for your game. Search on OPL compatibility list. Look for your game and see if you need to enable any of the modes.
in method 2 when i copy the new opl it gget disappear from the FCMB loading menu and i have to open it manually through LaunchElf , anyone got a solution ?
You need to navigate to FMCB Configurator. After you started it go to Configure OSDSYS options then go down to Configure item 1 and scroll right with Dpad until you see first empty entry select it (or if you see OPL in the list pick that). Now give it a name. Then go down to Path 1 and press Square (it makes it find OPL no matter if you put your card in slot 1 or 2) and navigate to your OPL elf file and select it. Return to first menu by pressing triangle multiple times. Now you have to save this. Go to Save CNF to MCx x = the slot you have the card in. Slot 1 is 0 and slot 2 is 1. Now you are done.
If I was to start out by just updating to the grim OPL while leaving all the games that I previously managed the “old” way on the HDD would it affect functionality?

@@lostsaves so glad I stared with just the OPL update and didn’t format my existing drive. Realizing now that long after I did my PS2, I converted all my ISO’s to CHD to free up more space on my USB drive for emulation on my Xbox series X and did not retain my ISO files. 😭 At least I’ll have something to do to keep me busy for a while!

Any ideas why I can't get the HDD option to show up? I have tried over and over again but it never shows up. I'm using a pre-made FMCB card that I bought less than a week ago. I have downloaded the specialty grimdoomer file and put it on my USB drive, and copied it to replace the old file that was in there using the ps2. It copies over fine but whenever I go into the program after I have no option for HDD. My only guess is it's something to do with the pre-made card. It has what appears to be 3 different listings for different versions of OPL. They are listed as.. OPNPS2LD(v0.9.3), OPNPS2LD(v1.1.0 10th), and OPNPS2LD(v1.2.0 MX4) I have tried all of them and no luck. The free MCBoot version of the card is 1.966. Is it something to do with these versions not being compatible? I'm at a total loss of what to do..
It sounds like you might just be replacing sitting versions and not the one set to run from FMCB.
Here’s something to try: navigate to the flash drive in wlaunchELF and try just straight running it from the flash drive

When I locate the file in unlanchelf on my usb drive and click it to run, it goes to a black screen and flickers a little like it might load then nothing other than a black screen. It's probably something I'm doing wrong or missing. I'm an auto technician by trade but I've dabbled in computers and stuff for many years. Just not an expert when it comes to stuff like this hah.
@@lostsaves Hey so just an update, I figured it out. The file I had to replace ended up being in the BOOT folder. There was three different OPL file versions listed but on of them was the identical name as the new file. I copied it into that folder to replace it and now when I go under the OPNPS2LD(v1.2.0 MX4) it gives me the HDD option to turn it on and off. Must be something weird with how this premade card is. But I figured id mention it in case you or someone else runs across this issue.

Opening game list takes 2,5 minutes to load with cache game list enabled, on 2tb hdd. Is this normal?
Yes that’s why I use SSDs. Loading giant game lists on a HDD is super slow

Anyone else have a blank page in their OPL next to their HDD page? Block devices are off besides HDD (and USB oc) but it always boots into an empty page and I have to go over to my games.
Yeah the normal HDD is empty since you’re in a new one. It’s annoying.
Can this be done to a slim?
You can't add an HDD/SSD to the back and of a slim. But you can use either SMB or MX4SIO to load games on your slim. To install FMCB you can use an exploit called FreeDVDBoot. But if you have a 9000 serie ps2 FMCB doesn't work. You need to install FunTuna or OpenTuna instead.
