- James Wiseman should have been the missing piece to the Warriors dynasty v2, instead here we are today with Wiseman failing to crack the Pistons rotation. in just a three years span, what happened to James Wiseman?

As someone who was gifted multiple wiseman autograph cards back in 2020 and 2021, this hurts.

The NBA is full of one dimensional athletic players who can’t do anything but dunk and jack up bad threes like him he isn’t anything special and know he will bounce around the league until he is inevitably bounced out permanently they don’t have any skills whatsoever outside of a few guys they don’t shoot at a good percentage dribble or play defense this is the crap they are putting on the court and a lot of fans are tuning out the ratings are going down like a hooker on Figueroa Street.
I don't know why you assume he is a kind and caring dude, but something here isn't right. His motivation and development or some type of mental health problem. Maybe he's just really too dumb to play at the highest level.
Who cares. The world needs results. He couldn’t deliver.
If Warriors got the 1 pick plus pick Wiseman imagine the Anthony Bennett Comparisons he'll be getting 💀
Closer to thabeet anyways
@@swishcountyproductions Wiseman's more talented than both.
@@rapgodreloaded9259Lol hardly. He is 10x more physically gifted than both but has way worse IQ
@ikedougenhouser3585Bennett at least did something in college. Wiseman played 3 games and is currently the 4th worst Center on the best team in the league.
Wiseman fell short of expectations and all but comparing him to Anthony Bennett is still so disrespectful lol. Bennett was the most unprepared player I've ever seen. I wasn't even too impressed with his college highlights like who's idea was that smh?
As a warriors fan most of what you said was correct, but I wouldn't say he has slow foot speed or lack of motor, it's his reaction speed, he was always a beat slow, at the lower levels this was papered over by his athleticism and his ability to recover. Also probably his biggest issue offensively you didn't mention, his hands... they were terrible. So many bobbled entry passes and so many blown ally ops. Such an underratted thing for a big man to have. Wish him the best though, he really does have the all athletic gifts and you could tell all he wants to do is learn and get better. But maybe he should spend more time in the film room than practicing a mid range.
I wonder how his career would have faired had he played a full season in college.
He was way behind in development at 19 when he was drafted. He only played a half season (mostly starts) when he got the big MCL tear that kept him out for a year and a half.
When he came back, he was mentally and physically even further regressed than when he was injured. He never even played a full season with the Warriors, but after he came back, he sucked so bad that he was clearly not going to be ready to help The current timeline Warriors. So he got traded.
He literally played 60 games for the Warriors, but the Warriors had seen enough.
Mentally he is just lost out there. He always had a low motor, but he’s so inattentive out there now, it’s ridiculous. He just stands around so much.
I think what we have seen is what he is. He has ALL the physical tools you could ask for, and enough offensive ability to produce more and more consistently than he has. Talking about "developement" it's up to the individual to put on the work to improve one's skills and it's been apparent he hasn't otherwise we woouldn't be having this convo. Might sound corny but he has no dawg in him, just watching his play and body language there is no urgency. Some people just don't really want to hoop like that, would've been cool to see him reach his potential but he's just not that guy.
Maybe he could be a Javaale type role player down the road if he just buys into it mentally
You can't fix someone's IQ. Look at Westbrook. One of the dumbest dudes out there on the floor. It's a shame because something during his development hurt him.
I slightly agree with some of your points but only because you accidentally made them. This 100% has to do with AAU, middle school, High School, and college basketball. There is a reason there are levels to this game. So I agree sort of that it's on him but at the same time the NBA isn't practicing defense. You have to already be there defensively before you get there. All they do in the NBA is basically throw you into their system and practice their system which includes very little d plus you're guarding non pros or g leaguers. Then the most important part is the money. This kid has spent his entire life with money in his pocket to play offense and then he gets a big NBA contract which might not be big for the NBA but for life in general it's a lot of money. A lot of guys lose that passion the minute the ink dries. Basically, he's a victim of a system that ALL these morons thought would help the players but it just ruins them. That's why overseas or euro players are taking over the league. Jokic is the best player in the NBA by a lot and people who deny that no nothing about basketball but most people don't realize Sabonis was top 3 last season in analytics which show the true play of a player. Doncic has and off year last year but he'll be top 5 again this year. Wemby, Giannis, Embiid, Markkenan, and every team in the NBA has at least 1 former Yugoslavian player but some have 2 or 3. Plus they say Vezenkov and V. Micic are really those dudes as will come out like Doncic and Jokic soon. This is AAU and western culture problem period. Is it on Wiseman too? Of course but also I think he is a victim in it too, he is just a VERY young kid. They should make then play at least 2 season in NCAA. Only I'm super rare circumstances should someone be allowed to skip. Basically, take a high school LeBron and put him in a real NBA game. If he can put on or at least maintain then you can skip the 2 years.
He could NEVER be a Javale McGee. He'll never accept that type of role and/mindframe. He's either a career journeyman or he's done.
for so long with a need for a good pivot, wiseman is talented, he just needs more minutes on the court and he will show you what he is capable of
Sometimes doesn’t ,after how hard you work, you’re just not that good. McGee is an excellent example of that. There no Bball IQ there.
Man i was so high on wiseman. he's a nice kid.hope he bounce back & get more contract for his future.
He is one of a many young college basketball players that should have stayed in school for 2-3 years and not leave after 3 games.
That college decision + the warriors draft were the worst things for Wise.
He was a raw talent never given the opportunity to develop and now he seems to old to some teams. Why work on and hope he develops when you can get on a younger big man who doesn’t have the history.
Sad to see. I hope he stays hooping and gets a coach who will aggressively address his deficiencies.
hes only 22 jesus christ lmao its looking really bad for him right now but him becoming a serviceable javale mcgee type back up center isnt dead
no drive and cant play the game. It is not about opportunity. This guy has been given so many opportunities. He just isnt smart enough to put it together.
Warriors gave him plenty of opportunities. I agree with the decision to let Wiseman go. In this league, if you are still in it, then it is not over.
the warriors were bad when they drafted him and they develop young talent all the time usually way lower in the draft. it was the perfect opportunity for him actually with a versatile system and players who would elevate his game. top draft picks shouldn’t suck that bad at first and get good years later
I think the warriors were a good spot for him. Warriors are generally good with developing players and he wasn’t the only young guy in the organization at the time. Moody, kuminga, and poole all developed and became solid players
I've been scratching my head over this player but now all my scratchin' is over. Thanks for the commentary.
for so long with a need for a good pivot, wiseman is talented, he just needs more minutes on the court and he will show you what he is capable of
This is such a sad story. He's a good guy with a good work ethic and I hope he gets it together and his career works out.
how do you know he has good work ethic? you in the gym with him?
@@Bookake-2 I've seen interviews with his teammates and coaches and all of them say that.
Have you heard otherwise from someone else?
Wow this was an exceptional assessment of Wiseman. This is exactly why alot of players despite their athletic abilities dont make it. IQ, Motor and Footwork makes a huge difference at this level.
I think he needs time, a lot of it. He needed to develop in college over that first year but was screwed over big time. He will be fine and a serviceable big in a year or two.
it's been his 3rd year now & little or no improvement at all
Yeah he'll be a serviceable big in China
Shouldn’t of left college so early then imo.
Thanks for the vid! I might be one of the few Wiseman fans out there. And this is one of the only videos I see that does a good analysis of his short comings.
I think player development would be a good fix. I think he needs to do some soul searching, take time out to actually develop. Being with Draymond would make 1 think that he'd learn how to read offenses and be in the right place for defensive plays. I think he'd be more valuable to any team as a defensive stalwart or rim protector. But he fancies himself to be a Jokic type of player.
He is young. He can start off being a defensive role player and play himself into being the star he wants to be.
Question is how much goodwill does he have left for other teams to take a chance. Funny thing is, he might end up with the warriors again.
If he could just concentrate on rebounding and defense, he’d be a solid addition to any team. Hard to improve his bball iq on both sides of the ball though.
Maybe the warriors aren't good at developing players? Outside of the core three who have they developed?
He can’t even get minutes as a bench player on the pistons ? What makes you think he won’t be in China

Even Dwight Howard had to play in China, I guess he wasn't talented, right?
Plenty of teams would roll the dice. But he is utterly lost on the court since he came back from his 18 months not injury time. He was only with the Warriors 60 games but that was enough.
Pistons see they can’t play him right now because he sucks too much.
All of his hard work paid off he signed a $40 million rookie contract guaranteed he’s already made more money than most make during a lifetime by far congratulations
I ran a simulation in 2k and picked James Wiseman. He took my team to 3 straight finals. I still believe in my boi ✊✊✊
Just a typical story of an elite that had been winning throughout lives due to their talent alone. The moment things start getting difficult and they have to work through it, they collapse. It's sad, but I always think NBA scouting really underrates the mental aspects of talent
then for them to say Anthony Edwards “doesn’t really care about basketball” makes that aspect of scouting that year look even worse
Yeah. This guy's the #2 pick and Jokic #41 😂.
Mind over matter!
@@sanderlange1932There are a few parameters they use, but in the end, this it is still a gamble. Look at Poole, with the Wizards, some fail when they enter NBA, some fail signing their first big deal.

Well the 2010 1st round pick was a bust between Curry on 09 and Thompson on 11 as well Green and Barnes in 12

No question, drafting has been poor after they drafted Steph. Poole helped them win a championship, I will tip my hat, but otherwise he was fool's gold. He showed following how much garbage he really is.
@@johnreesekl6249 i dont know if poole is garbage. he might not be a max player or a cornerstone player on a team. but hes well capable of being an elite scoring combo guard off the bench. I think a quality scoring threat off the bench is reasonable value for a 28th pick in the draft.
I also like both of the rookies that the warriors brought in this year. Neither look to be super stars, but I think they can both be quality rotation pieces.
Take a player with higher basketball IQ over athleticism if the athleticism isn't overwhelmingly superior to the opponents.
He looks like one of those kind of kids who's just living care free, here to have fun. Make his millions now he's on auto pilot.
He's still young enough to develop and grow.
I understand the need to come into the league as early as you can, nba prospects used to be better coming out of college because they had more time to develop.
It seems like every one of his issues is mental related.
- Doesn’t have a motor
- Bad IQ
- Doesn’t understand defense
- Bad technique
Right but you can fix all that but the first one. But I think this is good for him tho because this can fix the first one
Truthfully he was doomed from the start. He wasn’t developed in college and the warriors didn’t give him enough time to play through mistakes. The offensive and defensive systems at the warriors wasn’t right for him either.
for so long with a need for a good pivot, wiseman is talented, he just needs more minutes on the court and he will show you what he is capable of
I couldn’t agree more.
Sad to see him go out like this. 😢
How much talent can a guy have if he struggles to catch a pick and role pass? The guy is not coordinated.
for so long with a need for a good pivot, wiseman is talented, he just needs more minutes on the court and he will show you what he is capable of
I have never seen him set an actual screen. He stands in a spot, goes into the stance, but there's no intent, timing, he never waits, he slips every screen. He just does not understand the game at all
biggest factor his defensive iq is lacking or not interested in it
he lacks the desire to compete....... and its a shame because he has the tools to be dominant. he needs to be more nasty
GSW fans were talking about Wiseman like he was a future MVP. I don’t forget how crazy they were talking.
ESPN and Rivals both had James Wiseman as the best player in the country.
Meanwhile 247 had Anthony Edwards. Safe to say one was more accurate than the other.
If Wiseman was drafted into a team with fewer expectations, he would’ve had strong averages, and would’ve at least had more of a chance to develop his confidence, and play through his mistakes.
Still better than the average human?
Nah he's just bad

However athleticism and height you can’t really teach
Tell me what is Wiseman best Skillset? That broken Jumper? That slow lateral movement? What??
This happens more than people think. Since the year 2000 to now there have been plenty of busts in just the top 3 picks. It is tough to know if these kids game will translate to NBA stardom or even a good player.
He just need a coach to believe in him ...a coach that would let him commit mistakes but at the same time teach him how to be better...
Should’ve done all these in college but he played only 3 games
like on any other team to be drafted by, warriors are the hardest to grow in. anywhere else he coulda been drafted is almost 100% better situation for him to learn and grow without the other guys
Get him to the Heat let Zo and Haslem teach him
Sucks his career aint pan out but HE GOT MONEY. Of bro invests all that, he is set for life
The fall of James Wiseman…well? He never even rose up to any occassion. So he never fell, he IS already there.
just needs the right situation. i don’t think he’ll ever live up to his draft pick or what everyone thought he would be but i still think he can be a good rotation man
He still has potential. Big men, classic center,.. take longer to develop. He has 15/10 upside. Solid nba career if he works. If not, he’ll still earn 100+ mil. I hope he ups his intensity and defensive effort. He can still contribute to a winner.
for so long with a need for a good pivot, wiseman is talented, he just needs more minutes on the court and he will show you what he is capable of
James not playing in Memphis and the Covid situation really helped him finess the NBA! If you spent a whole year just watching a championship team and having hall of famers calling you "big ticket" and tryna show you the ropes and you still don't know where to be when you're on the court that means you lack the desire to know and improve. Better yet, if you're in the G-league and can't dominate that competition then that says alot. There are people in this world that are with no exaggeration 1000x better at what they do then James at what he does and those people will never earn $18 million even if they lived multiple lifetimes, so he should run away with that rookie contract like a bandit!!!

One time when the Sixers came to Detroit this year, both Jalen Duren and Marvin Bagley were out. Embiid scored the easiest 40 I’ve ever seen and left the game early, and James Wiseman fouled out. A tale of two very different paths in the league.
The crazy thing was Rookie Pre-Injury James looked pretty good. Granted he made mistakes but comparing that time period to his game now is like night & day
Don’t matter how bad he is he’s still richer than you
I’m richer than everyone here I make hundreds of millions a month

The Warriors were never recognized as a organization to develop young talent under Steve Kerr
Not true, they’ve developed Kevon Looney and Jordan Poole well, two players picked at the end of the 1st round.
What is true is that under Steve Kerr, the Warriors have hardly ever had the chance draft a high pick and when they do they don’t seem to select or develop them well. Wiseman is a bust, Moses Moody has moments but idk, and Kuminga might develop better in another system

He is an example of talent don't work hard
Nah, he got robbed of crucial developmental years then flung onto a championship calibre team. The problem wasn’t effort it was attention to detail, experience and injury. In fact I remember Steve Kerr talking about his great work ethic.
He's athletic and has size. I'm not seeing the talent in a guy who can't catch a pick and role pass...
@@truthnotfeelings no he lacked work ethic and the desire to compete. You couild see that in his rebounding. He was literally caught standing around all the time when there were rebounds to be had. Despite in many cases he had a physical advantage over everyone on the court to get boards and he didnt even try to get involved in the fight for rebounds. Heck- I see more fight out of a 6 4 guard in brandin Podjemski than I ever saw out of wiseman on the glass. (And thats not even a primary job for a guard).
People said the problem is that the warriors needed patience and big men develop slow.... LOl but then I see guys like Evan Mobley, Wembanyana, and Holmgren able to be contributing players from day 1. This guy showed flashes as a rookie. Like one time when he ripped and ran and finished with a flush, I was getting Giannis vibes. Missing a season and a half didn’t help though. As well as the Warriors basically trying to make him a taller version of Kevon Looney. I love Loon, but Wiseman is taller, more athletic and skilled. Instead of just making him a screen setter they should’ve at least run plays for him every once in a while. Or told him to just rim run and reward him with easy dunk opportunities. Hopefully he goes somewhere someone can bring him back to basics, be it in the G League or Europe or wherever, and be at least a productive player in the NBA as he approaches 30. @@hushsounds6486 again like I said they just started being good but during their whole history of being in the league they have been below average or at the crisp of being avg.
Meant current organization from management down to bench warmers. Get what ur saying though and you’d be very right.
The warriors are a good org now, but they suffer from growing pains. They have a lot of pride in the core that brought them success and don’t yet know how to handle other players who come in after them. Especially while Steph klay and dray are around.
That's because Lacob bought the team in the last decade. The previous owner was Cohan, and Warriors made 1 playoff out of 27 seasons since he bought the team in 1994. Lacob purchased the team in 2010, Warriors won 4 championships out of 13 years. If you look at the entire 100 years of Warriors history, I agree that they were pretty average. If you look at Lacob era, they are one of the best.
I mean…he can still do something. He’s not even like 24-25 bruh
This league is transitioning from small ball to skilled bigs. He still has a chance
Man they need to let that man get some run he don't get no real minutes. That can mess with your head.
Dude the fact they made him stop playing in college cause of penny helping his family move out there is dumb
Wiseman was drafted based on his potential. He was able to dominate high school boys but he can't do that to NBA men who are much stronger than him. His inability to box out, set good screens, zero court vision, poor passer is the result of his poor bball IQ.
Prior to 2000's, teams simply drafted the most athletic bigs even if they weren't skilled. They would be taught how to play. Some would develop into superstars like Hakeem.
But now, the game has changed. Players need to know how to play on day 1.
It's not really his poor bball IQ, he just doesn't have the skills to compete in the NBA because he barley played in college. You are seeing so many one and done players end up a bust because one year in college for many athletes DOES NOT prepare for them the NBA. In Wiseman's case he didn't even play a full season college
He needs to work out with top center legends as mentors. He will build his confidence and the basket ball IQ he never really learned.
for so long with a need for a good pivot, wiseman is talented, he just needs more minutes on the court and he will show you what he is capable of
He had a center specialist coach on the Warriors. Same guy turned an unathletic Looney into a very good center for the championship year.
I'd like to see him in OKC.
As a die hard dubs fan, I was happy af when they traded him to get gp2. He just needs wayyyy more practise. Give him time.
They should’ve done that trade package for KD
I really wished it would have worked out for Wiseman and Poole on the Warriors. They were supposed to be the next stars.

Warriors should’ve traded for KD
We need you for Gilas Pilipinas National Team!
I’ve seen him hold up in switches, I don’t think he has a lack of lateral quickness, he was ALWAYS played in drop coverage which didn’t play to his strengths as a potentially switchable defender. Also never helped he lacked good poa defenders
