    great video. Thank you. I have a 2017 and was just hit from behind by a truck. The trunk lights are all cracked. Pipes and motor are good. front crash bars are scraped and bent. Over all, it's in great shape. The left side bag has light scrape, and the handle is bent out. I will remove the trunk and side bags, and do just what you did. The front curve part of the fairing has a rough scrape on the right hand side. I can take that to a collision place and have it sanded and repainted any color at this point. I agree with you on the sound and radio. Junk. I just like hearing the V&H pipes sound that came with the bike.I want to try and get black new crash bars on the front if I can find them. all you cool guys , I would not be writing this if I didnt have my helmet on. Good gloves, long pants and shirt saved my skin. I did get a broken compound fracture of the ankle. soon as the winter is over I will start working on this.

      Thanks, been wanting to do it for a while now, finally just figured I'd go for it. Took a while just to figure out what to do with the back but now with the backrest and the leather bags on it, I'm quite happy I made the choice to do it. Best part is the bike is still in excellent shape, can probably sell the parts off of it and actually make money for making it the way I want.

I don't do a lot of "Highway" travel, live in the Myrtle Beach area so some days spend more time with my feet on the road than riding. Looking this summer for a new bike but will be a much lighter bike, just haven't seen the one yet. May end up going back to the sports bikes like a Hayabusa. Most people give me crap for not buying a Vaquero in the first place, but got for 12k new left over from the year before.... lol Ended up putting it all back together and selling it. Still had a lot of factory holes and things that you can't see from 10' away but up close.... With a little bit of effort and some strategically placed bags and emblems would look pretty good. Hello Greg, Just picked up a 09 nomad with the factory tour pak I want the trunk off but keep the side bags on.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad it helped, I thought it looked decent, the trunk off was good, the way Kawasaki designed the bags without cutting some of the factory frame rails off and welding something to attach the exhaust to, your stuck with bags of some sort. I did some soft bags for a while, looked ok. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    One mod I was thinking on doing is to drill about a 1 inch or 1 and 1/4 hole in the left side cover so that I can check the radiator fluid level without having to removing the seat and undoing the left cover just to easily pre check the level quickly during my pre-trip instpection. Then have a rubber grommet that will fit the drilled hole to cover it.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed that when I was pulling the cover also. I have a 72 Kawasaki and the oil fill for the 2 stroke on the 17 has a rubber tube on the outside you can see and the 75 and 75 I think actually have "view holes" in the side cover to see the level. Think that would be a good idea, cut a small hole, then get a rubber grommet or something just to make it look "finished". Thanks for watching the videos.

    Hey Greg! Love the videos! Just got a VN1700 myself. Wondering if you have any idea what the rear end removal did to the overall weight of the bike? Keep up the videos!!

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure on the weight, guessing around 40lbs. I can say as far as Handling helped out tremendously, now maybe in my head but I think getting rid of the trunk and big sides the bike handles much better. Trying to edit out a ride today to make it somewhat watchable without being 4 hours long, but doing an update for the ECU flash, first time this year I've had time to just go ride a day, so went and got stuck in traffic on Ocean Blvd just to see how the temp and performance held up. Thanks for watching, have a VN1500 backrest coming this week cant wait to put it on, looks a little naked back there without something, just not that trunk.

      @lumberninja 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lumberninja Got the backrest on yesterday, quite happy with it:
      th-cam.com/video/0II37h25mfY/w-d-xo.html
      As far as finding parts, mostly educated guessing, been working on cars and bikes for.... well a long time... lol Most year bikes even though they change the outer looks many of the main components like the frames stay pretty consistent. Not affordable to re design a frame unless they have a flaw. Hayabusa is a great example, far as I know everything from 08 to about 19 will fit from one bike to the other with little to no modifications. Another good way is Amazon, if in doubt use Amazon, their return policy is about un beatable, if it comes in doesn't look like it should or fit easier to return.
      When planning on putting things like the saddle bags and backrest on, try to find places to "hide" imperfections. Unless you have a machine shop, or are OCC or a custom builder, there will be flaws, just have to hide them where no one can see. The rough metal that holds the bags on and jagged cuts to fit the backrest, I could take more time and "pretty" them up but once everything is mounted, you would never know unless you took it apart. Thanks for watching, I may do a 10-15 minute video on this subject, get lots of questions about it.

  • @0TransAtlantic0
    @0TransAtlantic0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So I have to ask a couple obvious questions.
    After all that work, given that it looks horrible without the bags or trunk, and all of the bracketry is now exposed, wouldn't it have been easier to have bought a Vaquero instead?
    The Vaquero is pretty much a trunkless version of the Voyager with some other minor differences (no auxiliary lights, different saddlebags).
    If you mostly ride around town, why go for a bike that is specifically made for long haul riding?
    I'm not knocking you choices here, just trying to get a better understanding of the motivations.

    • @RagerJackOfAll
      @RagerJackOfAll  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I agree 100%, it all got put back on before I sold it. Got the Voyager originally because my wife was riding all the time with me and it was more comfortable for her. She decided after one of our kids was in an accident that she didn't want to ride any longer, so I thought maybe for a few hundred bucks I could make it look like I wanted since it was paid off. I prefer the older cruiser style with the leather bags and back rest. If nothing else it was a good educational video for how to take all the parts off of the bike if you need to. Thanks for watching and commenting, I don't mind being called out for a mistake. lol

    • @0TransAtlantic0
      @0TransAtlantic0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Greg, I don't want you to think I was calling you out. More my desire to understand folks motivations when it comes to the infinite ways we all come up with to modify our bikes to our liking. Now that you filled me in on what drove your decisions along the way, I can see that your plan was quite ingenious.
