In my experience with carbon fiber barrels. Have not seen razzle dazzle groups. 3 shots, always,I mean always have one flyer. 5 shots = 2 flyers. However the first shot is always spot on. I consider carbon fiber barrels are for reduced weight, not for target shooting. So, I'm ok with it.😊
I finally got a day in Ballinger Texas with no measurable wind. I took my 25-06 and 243 to the gunrange this morning and here's the results. Vanguard synthetic 25-06 firing handloaded 117 grain Hornady interlock on top of 50 grains of IMR 4831, . 36 at 100 yards, and only had 2 bullet holes for 3 shots because it hit the bullet hole on the right and just made that hole a little bigger. The one on the left side was only 1/8 of an inch from touching right hole. I always wait for 15 minutes between shots to let the barrel cool off and retract from the heat. Howa 243 cerakote camouflage stock: 3 shots at 100 yards into a clover leaf with no bullets touching. Winchester power point 100gr. I've never had to handload for this rifle because of accuracy concerns and both of these rifles 3 shot groups could be covered entirely with a dime. The reason being the waiting time between shots, and I know exactly what the coldbore first shot is going to do. The first shot is the most important when you are hunting, coldbore, and this is the way I roll.
My view is the TA is a hunting bullet not a target bullet if your getting under 1 MOA your doing great anything after that is a waste of time and hard to find components. I’ve waited almost 4 years to get my hands on Federal’s 180gr Trophy Copper bullets for my favourite go to hunting rifle. If I’m getting under 1” I’m done, I’m not wasting hard to find components on poking holes in paper and a dirt bank, I’m not trying to shoot the ticks off an elks ass, I’m just shooting the elk. Perspective check and elks eyeballs is about a 1 MOA target, if you can hit that your doing fine. I’d be more worried about what those groups look like when shooting off hand and not on a bench on sand bags in perfect conditions. When the day comes and your out of breath from hiking, tracking or chasing him down, the adrenaline is pumping, your heart is pound out of your chest and you have no rest for your rifle, your rifle will out shoot you every time and is not the reason you missed.
Some people thrive pushing for excellence. I'm happy with 1 inch or so. If you are spending the time and money to reload and Taylor a load for a gun why not try for the best
@@kylecasetta4091 to each their own I guess. I’d rather take that time and money on practicing with my hunting rifle in different shooting positions, then to try to squeeze out another 1/2 inch out of my group size. I just get the impression allot content creators on TH-cam are giving people the impression that 1/2 groups are the new norm or standard.
My dad has an old rifle, Enfield 303 British, best groups at 100 yards is around 4 inches with its favorite load, has taken more than one antelope, deer, elk, out past 300 yards, on more than one occasion
1/2 MOA is 1/4 the size of a dispersion cone of 1 MOA so it is a lot greater degree of precision for what it’s worth. However, I think people get too hung up on specific numbers and lie to themselves because of it. One 3 shot group is 1/2 MOA so they claim it’s that and refuse to test it further. It doesn’t matter that it takes them 10 shots chasing their tail to get a zero. That load is 1/2 moa all day as long as I do my part!
OMG you can get 3100 fps with a 200g projectile with your 300 Roy??? Wow. I am not crazy about the belt on the case, but that would REALLY make me think twice about spending the $$ for a 300 PRC if I already owned the the 300 Roy. That kind of performance would take any kind of game in North America including the large costal Brown Bears in AK. Very impressed. Sometimes I catch myself wishing I had purchased the Roy instead of the 300 Win Mag (but my 300 Win does shoot really good).
To be fair, that's the case with most of these new cartridges. If you're getting something in a particular cartridge size for the first time, and especially if you don't handload, then modern cartridges are almost always objectively superior. However, if you already have something very similar, then the gains are generally so marginal that 90% of the time, there is absolutely no point switching. And if you handload, that shrinks to 99%.
Love the 300wby and had a mark5 with a long throat . Loaded the bullets as long as the magazine allowed and fed reliably & got better accuracy for hunting loads . Give it a try & good luck hunting ! Cheers man
If you love the big magnums and already own one enjoy it. If not 300 prc is an excellent choice especially if you dont reload. My Savage Elite shoots 245 Berger Hybrids 2750 fps 5.0 S.D and 1/4 moa@100 yds. Not screaming fast but hits with authority and wind doesnt bother it much at 1000 yds.
Love your content and have always been a Weatherby fan, but as I live in Australia ammunition for Weatherby's can be hard to obtain and very expensive 😔. I have noticed that on many channels they often have (two touching and one flyer) understandably a hunting rifle will normally only fire a max generally of 3 shots or 4 shots in quick succession??,thus not heating the barrel too much,I think 5 shot groups would be interesting if the duration of fire was limited to keep the barrel at a moderate temperature ,do you have an opinion in this?
Thanks for watching and being a fan! I've always stuck with 3 shot groups because I'm shooting a hunting rifle with a skinny sporter barrel. I understand a 5 shot group gives a great understanding of what the group is really doing. Stuff is expensive when shooting a Weatherby cartridge lol. But maybe one of these days I'll give a 5 shot group a go.
Good day here from south africa, I have a question. Do you know that its better for new brass to be loaded on the lower powder node to fire form the first couple of firings after that the brass should be at the actual volume taking in consideration your chamber size. After that you can load on the upper powder node (if your rifle allows it). Your accuracy should improve, not saying yours is bad. A very good channel to visit for all these things reloaders and competition shooters don’t tell you is primal rights. Have a good day
I’d try Retumbo in the PRC. I have a 30 Sherman, 300 PRC improved, and it will run those 230 Berger Hybrids into a 6/10” group at 200yds while cruising at 3046fps. Some 300 PRC’s do not do well with H1000 I’ve seen.
I’ve always kept up with your channel but how do the two compare to the 300 win mag? I just truly started getting into hand loading. I’ve been practicing my reloads on 243 win, and a 10mm Handgun. But about to move up to 300 wm
Looking at the balistics on the internet if you compare same weight bullets at 200gr 300 wby beats prc in velocity, energy and drop, but 300 prc with the 245gr is about 400 ft pounds more at 500 yards with alot of drop. 200gr at 2200fpoot pounds at 500 yards with less drop seems better to me than 2wigr with 400 more foot pounds but almost double drop
First off Hornady proves again they are number one over all The other cartridges (sarcasm) Second of all does a compressed load cause issues because some of the chunks break therefore changes how the powder burns or ignite or does it increase pressure which causes other issues or what is the main problem of a compressed load just so I can learn I personally never compress any loads
I got 2 custom 300 wbys both got 26 inch bartlein barrels one is shooting 200 accubond at 3080fps wit retumbo and second is shooting 190 ablr at 3170fps with h1000 gonna see how 190 ablr does on elk this year
What’s up gents, I’m looking at getting a 300 wby. Trying to decide between the vanguard talon, mark V hunter, or mark V live wild. Found the hunter a little cheaper than the vanguard. Any help is appreciated.

@michaelclark1645 It's either the brass not fitting or you loaded the bullet too long. If it's the brass your shoulder has expanded too much and you need to resize it back
@ReloadingWeatherby definitely the brass, after sizing it goes in,then the bolt goes to the point where it should close and won't. I run a single stage rcbs press, can the shoulder be taken back with a regular sizing die?
