That felt like them talking of how Chadwick hid that he was sick up until his passing. How none of us knew, including his co-stars if i remember right. I doubt they could have done anything, unlike how Shuri might have been able to do something for T'Challa, but still felt like a very real line about the guilt i bet they all unfortunately had when he passed
Branching off of this comment - I have a friend who didn’t like the movie specifically because he felt like they were exploiting Chadwick’s death to make big money, and that really bothered him. I can see both sides, but I am curious as to what other fans of the movie would say about this specific opinion. *disclaimer: not trying to start drama, just would like feedback from others who watched this awesome movie.

i think the final scene being Shuri burning the funeral garments, representing the ending of the mourning period, also really works for the end of phase 4 as a whole. A lot of phase 4 has focused on loss and grief, and the different ways different characters deal with it and use it to reinvent themselves. Phase 4 is over now. And so perhaps is the mourning period of all our MCU characters, not just Shuri.
So as other people pointed out, it’s confirmed in Moon Knight that there are many different afterlife’s, all real in their own regard. Hippo lady even talks about how beautiful the Ancestral Plane is.
Coogler also mentioned how they filmed scenes under water. And he learned to swim because of it. He said in an interview that if his actors had to learn how to swim and perform underwater then he had to as well Also tenoch Huerta (namor) said he kind of knew how to swim when they called inquiring on if he’d play the role and he absolutely did not know how to whatsoever 😂
@@Pablo-bc4ti when I saw this in his interview i busted out laughing. The interview where they took him to his home town (I assume) and showed him a mural of him that the people made for him broke me 😭
Shuri's scene with Kilmonger was really interesting. How she said she wasn't sure the spiritual plane was real or not, and how instead of seeing her mother or brother or father, but instead seeing Kilmonger could show that she could lean to be less honorable compared to the rest of her family. I wished they explored her lack of belief in the spiritual side more in the first half of the movie.
I feel like what they did with her non belief was enough honestly, whenever it was brought up she dismissed it or cursed it and I think it does try to show that she is not t'challa she can be like him and be honorable but she is also like Killmonger more ruthless preying upon weakness and cunning which is why her bp suit was in-between both t'challa's and Killmonger's also taking inspiration from both using gold and silver trim.
No matter how many times I watch this movie, I will always tear up. Still can't believe Chadwick is no longer with us. As someone who also lost a parent (my mom), I understand the pain and grief that one goes through. It takes so much time and effort in you to be able to stand back up on your feet and move forward in life.
Namor is shortened from the Spanish name No Amor which the Spaniards where using when conquering the Mayans. It is a linguistic choice that is very common for us, Spanish speakers especially from the coastal areas.
it's kinda amazing that his name can be interpreted as so many ways. "No Amor" meaning No love. Roman spelt backwards, and also because pheonetically it sounds almost similar to the words "No more" in english.
My dad passed just before this movie came out. Knowing the themes I avoided it until it came out on Disney+. Watching it was part of my grieving process.
i am so sorry for your loss, i am here for you 🤍 i had a similar experience too; my mom passed away and my family watched kung fu panda 3 just a few months after it happened. when the film was talking about po's mother's passing, my father just started to choke in tears and after the movie - the entire family just cried and grieved together.
My dad actually had funeral like a week before this movie premiered. He also died from some cancer/tumor like issues regarding his stomach/colon, so more or less the kind of illness Chadwick had (but unlike Chadwick, my father had not have any suspicion he could have cancer like 4 weeks before he died so it was quite quick, we originally thought he "just" got sick with stomach ulcer when he went to the hospital). I went to see the movie into theatre thinking noone will care anyway how much I'll cry since it was known it will be an emotional movie. Also 2 weeks after father's death I was so used to crying at random times... I could not give any more f*cks about what would someone think about me if I have meltdown in a theatre. So it became part of my grieving process for sure too. And I am glad that you found your timeline to do things that could help in grieving too 🙂Rest well parents, you did your job to raise us, gave us foundation to navigate adulthood and be decent human beings, now rest in piece 🖤🖤🖤
I had a similar experience with Red Dead Redemption 2. I played half of it, then I accidentally spoiled for my self that a character dies, then my stepfather died, and I couldn't bring myself to finishing the game for QUITE a long while.
@@AngelaSealana The siren song was dope. They not only possess super strength but they can serenade you to drown yourself. And if that isn't enough they can create explosive devices. Namor and his folks didn't come to play. 😮
Always a nice touch when another set of eyes catches the importance of M'Baku in this film. The Rock of Wakanda, he came from being the outsider, to the savior of T'Challa, trusted confidant, protector of Wakanda through The Blip, trusted advisor on the Tribal Council, refuge of Wakanda in crisis, the last wished protector of Shuri by King T'Challa, and now the joyously chosen King of Wakanda. A marvelous arc, to say the least
You guys taking the time to acknowledge Nakias / Lupitas beauty .... Is exactly what I was hoping for and needed.... She really is breathtaking to the point of distraction 😍😍😍
Eric's memory of his mom's passing reminds me of my own. My mom's cancer took it's toll on her mind and she couldn't remember any of my family for the last few weeks, but when they turned off the machines keeping her alive she looked around the room at our family...and I saw in her eyes that she remembered everyone...one last time. He's right, it is very devastating.
Something that I really liked about this movie was Shuri's fight with religion. Was super relatable to me , wanting the help of whatever power you believe in but being extremely skeptical at the same time. Havent seen many character arcs like that before.
Ramonda asking Shuri if the construct she created gave her “comfort or torment” really stuck with me. I lost my grandmother right before the movie came out and I could definitely relate to Shuri. My family is very religious and took comfort in the belief that her suffering was over and we will see her in the afterlife. I really wish I could feel as sure as they do and experience the same kind of comfort, but there’s always part of me that is skeptical. I appreciate the movie exploring how spirituality or lack of it can effect the grieving process.
This isn’t just a movie. It’s a way of us saying thank you and goodbye to a great man. The best one there is. Thank you Chadwick Boseman for being our Black Panther. Rest in Peace with the Ancestors. Wakanda Forever.
There is two scenes in this movie that stick with me: Okoye & Queen Ramonda fighting: because I love them both and they both had points it was so sad, the second is the Killmonger & Shuri scene, Shuri is both drowning in grief but also is surrounded by ferocious anger such a great scene. I loved the idea that Killmonger was both a symbol for where she was emotionally and also where she shouldn't end up. Great Reaction👍🏽👍🏽
There is this comic called Sub-Mariner: The Depths. It's a horror comic in wich a submarine crew are scared by the myth of "Namor", a creature who haunts them in the depths of the sea. I always hoped to see an adaptation of it. This ain't it, but it's still amazing. Oceans are scary!!
I loved how they brought back Killmonger. It really solidified Shuri's vengeance with Killmonger burning the herbs that she could've used to help T'Challa and how Namor killed Ramonda. I think this was a way Michael B. Jordan could give a tribute for his friend Chadwick. I remember he said it was tough for him (and for the cast) to make another movie because his friendship with Chadwick goes a long way back to All My Children days.
Really tells a lot, just like comic Shuri (she literally waged war on Atlantis when Namor wasn't there, and he told Thanos that Wakanda has infinity stones 💀) so I liked the bit with N'jdaka it shows that Shuri is not noble or nice like the rest. But she still is 😅
I am really happy with the fandom for this movie everyone was so respectful and didn't even try to spoil anything for a good while. Even better it received a lot of positive reviews. It was a great movie and Namors hot! Period! 😌
Eric, Calvin and Aaron THANK YOU so much far sharing your genuine, heartfelt reactions during your review. I cried right along with you watching your reaction. Your respect and love for the characters and actors portraying them touched me. I wanted to reach through the screen and hug each of you. Your kindness reflected beautifully.
I dont like how angry at the world she still was over a year after his death, when she was really angry at him keeping it quiet and for not letting her help sooner. But yes, that was refreshing of a trope. She played it well.
@@송성현-c4u Chadwick died in real life. You knew going into this that it was going to be about grief and the hole that he left in everyone’s lives. And it was still entertaining, just sadder.
Like Leia being completely fine with her entire planet being blown up. I mean, she said "no!", but after that she was fine. I think I'd take it a bit worse if I was in space and had to watch Earth being destroyed. Not just my family, my home, and everybody I knew. But the entire human race, all of those animals, the culture, the history. Just wiped out, gone forever. It's crazy that Leia is able to comfort Luke after that because he lost some old man he barely knew.
I gotta say Shuri's BP theme song is already in my personal top 5. Avengers theme, Cap's theme, T'Challa and Kilmonger's themes would be my other 4. The whole cast and crew did great with this movie. Angela Bassett deserves every award she's getting
It was a well done film that allowed the audience to acknowledge the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman while moving forward with Wakanda’s story. I enjoyed it tremendously.
Something you can miss if you don't speak spanish, is how romantic the song they used for the Namor and Shuri scene in Talokan. I find it very curious, almost as if they're hinting at a romance between those two. Of course now things are complicated to say the least but i still ship it! They're the ultimate MCU power couple
@@Rakushi_Snea no it was definitely a love song. In the documentary about the music they said they wanted a song about describing the son to someone that has never seen it before and the girl the wrote it decided to use words like mi amor, which means my love. The song IS romantic
It felt damn good as a latina to see this version of Namor. Giving him a mayan heritage and change Atlantis for Talokan was a genious move on Ryan Coogler's part. And he was right, especially when you take into consideration just how long he's been alive and what he witnessed. Watching his people and his land being enslaved and colonized will make anyone ruthless and hard. and still you can see how loved and revered he is by his people. even Shuri respects that. i don't consider him the villain of the movie. he was an antagonist, sure, but the real villains are the CIA and the colonizing powers of the world. Talokan suffered in a way that Wakanda didn't. The people of Wakanda never had to leave their homeland and change everything about their way of life just to escape slavery and subjugation. His methods are extreme but very on par for what you would expect from a 500 year old mayan God who had to protect his people and new home from colonizers. I love him and i hope we get to see more of him. And the actor's name is Tenoch Huerta! he's one of the best mexican actors right now and he's been in several popular things like Narcos and The Purge
I love when Neka stands at attention and says “why do you care.” Although she displays it differently, she cares about the Dora Milaje and Wakanda just as much as Okoye.
Damn Eric had to pause to digest that brief story about your mum that’s rough I’m so sorry. The end is just one moment, it’s the rest of the time that matters❤.
I think this movie, and people’s reaction to it show that Chadwick was such an incredible actor and soul, we lost him way to soon and he really had an affect on people.
I love you guys. I didn't know if I'd be able to watch this again, but it was just amazing watching it with you. It really does my heart good to see three grown men absolutely sobbing within seconds of the start of the movie.
God the soundtrack for this movie is easily top 5. marvel has been killing it with the themes in these movies lately. Very rare where just the music itself brings me to tears, no way home, infinity war, and endgame are the only ones that come close in my opinion. It’s truly masterful, I will never get over the synths, chills every single time.
one thing I wish is that they'd give Shuri's Black Panther suit the fur collar that it has in the comics. That, combined with the gold accents and white dots would've looked so fucking cool
Well everyone has their first suit in the MCU, then upgrades. Its Shuri, she's definitely gonna keep on improving. I think this suit was to show her duality. The suit looks like a mix between TChalla & Killmonger.
The acting is phenomenal for me. Not only are these characters mourning another character but the actors playing them are mourning a family member in real time. You can tell Chadwick's extremely unfortunate demise caused a lot of rushed rewrites and made the script suffer.
Okay, so just to let you guys know: Namor is the first mutant in terms of publication history in the Marvel Universe, meaning he was the first mutant in a comic book ever. But he is not the oldest mutant in history. The oldest mutant in history is Selene Gallio, better known as the Black Queen. She is 17000 years old. For reference, Apocalypse is about 6000.
Seeing this film will forever stand out to me amongst my cinema experiences, few times has a film looked and sounded so well and hit ya heart just right
It's annoying that people act like this movie didn't come out between Thor 4 and Antman 3. They complain about too jokey and too much CGI, well that's why they gave you BP 2. This movie is super solid especially when you consider it doesn't even have it's main character. This is a high quality movie from every aspect of film making. I understand not liking story choices, perfectly reasonable. But on a technical level this movie is amazing.
when i first saw this in theaters, the moment i saw nakia i just knew. i knew they had a kid together. i don't know how i knew, but when the final scene happened and the movie ended, i turned to my friends while crying and just said, "i knew it. I KNEW IT." this movie made me cry so many times but they handled everything SO well. the grief felt so real and potent because we all knew that they have been grieving and remembering Chadwick. i loved this movie tbh glad it was a closing for phase 4
I remember when my mother passed. She knew she was terminal and she convinced me to go back to uni [I lived away from home] and finish it since I was in my 3rd year and I took time off to be with her. I started work that night and then I woke up to dozens of phone calls and messages and I instantly knew.
The opening logo had my theater dead quiet. There have only been two other times my theaters have been that quiet - when the Snap happened and then the credits rolled in Infinity War; and when the toys were about to die in Toy Story 3.
As a black American viewer, shoutout to my guy sittin to the far most right side…the emotion and reverence to this cinematic piece…just as a viewer viewing you view this (weird, I know)…was refreshing to see 🤷🏽♂️ For my guy in the middle… glad you made the ancient sport comment. Wait... people still don't believe the existence of the ancestral plane/the afterlife (at least in the MCU) after all the afterlife things they showed us? Hmm...
@@adyyyyy00 well it's kinda weird because one would think humans would have the same afterlife. So I guess Asgardians afterlife is different because they're basically aliens, and the Ancestral plane is probably the same place as the one showed in Moon knight but it presents in different ways for different cultures. So I'd say it's same place different looks.
Fantastic and emotional movie. A wonderful tribute to Chadwick Boseman. Loosely translated from Latin, "Imperius Rex!" stands for "Empire King," but it's a stark warning to anyone who dares to challenge Namor's will in the Marvel Universe. Namor is an Anti-Hero. In fact, Namor is often best described as an anti-hero in Marvel Comics. Namor was created by Bill Everett in Marvel Comics #1 in 1939 as an anti-hero who deeply resented the surface world for polluting the oceanic world in which he lived. The music in this film was great. Angela Bassett was excellent, and I hope she wins an Oscar for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In the comics, Namor was also the first mutant introduced in 1939 but was only called a mutant after the introduction of the X-Men in 1963.
I loved their tribute to Chadwick. So well done. One of the many things I liked about the movie was they showed Shuri's vulnerability even as Black Panther. The performances were absolutely perfect, in my opinion. Also, I couldn't help but notice how many beautiful people were in this film. Sooo much eye candy. Very authentic reactions from you guys. 👍
man more people should have seen this in the theater. it was a moment, but even watching the reactions. i cry every time... every damn time! It's so powerful and underrated.
In regards to the ancestral plane my interpretation is based on a quote from Dumbledore "Of course it's happening inside your head, Harry. Why should that mean that it's not real?" Also in the mcu universe the ancestral plane is confirmed real as per the hippo goddess from moonknight
this movie utilizes silence so so well. on so many occasions through this movie, ryan coogler is asking you to sit with things. you sit with silence, you sit with grief. you sit. and it is uncomfortable at times, it's hard at times, but sometimes you have to sit with it. that was shuri's journey to get to that beach at the end. that's why it was so beautiful when she finally allowed herself that moment. i loved the little moments the most in this. riri saying "to be young gifted and black" something chadwick said while accepting their sag award for best ensemble for black panther. ramonda saying she can feel t'challa; ryan coogler said he felt chadwick's hand on his shoulder during the entire making of this film. shuri echoing t'challa's thoughts about vengeance from civil war. king t'chaka in bp1 saying "a man who has not prepared his children for his death has failed as a father", nakia saying t'challa prepared them for his death. i love these moments the most. my biggest issue is their decision to kill ramonda. i don't know why it needed to happen. i mean i know but i also don't lol i don't like that shuri and peter have lost literally everything. it's like one loss was fine and needed for growth, but the second loss just feels unfair. shuri losing her mom after losing her brother. peter losing mj and ned after losing aunt may. the happiest avengers are now the most broken. fix my children! or at least let them be friends!
This movie has paid homage to the late Chadwick Boseman and Iron Man as well, the very movie that started the MCU. This movie hits so differently, enough to make a grown man cry. Rest In Power King. WAKANDA FOREVER!💯
This made me think of my youngest brother. He passed away from Lupus 12 years ago. Also an illness no one could cure. He never got to see most of the MCU movies. He would have loved all of them...mostly.
I really loved how the film added 2 silent minutes. I was in theatre on the second week and the entire room was absolut silent, not even the children were saying things like "why no music?"
I will never forget Opening Night of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" during the Marvel Studios Intro, I could just hear, sniffling and crying. Rest In Peace Chadwick Boseman. 💙🙏🏼
Hey fun fact a lot of Riri's suits have at least partial practical suits she wears on set! A lot of bts stuff shows her wearing the chest gear or full suit
I really like that they put a minute of silence for Chadwick in the movie and they put it at a point where you would be completely silent out of sheer emotion anyway. But then some Karen in the theater I watched it in was completely oblivious to it and ruined it.
Phase 4 has had its ups and downs. But every time the marvel studios logo popped up, the audience cheered. This was the first time in years the entire audience was silent. You could literally feel a pin drop in the audience because of the silence. A title card has never been so heavy. Oh, and Angela Bassett fucking ATE everyone up.
I was absolutely devastated when we lost Chadwick. I didn't truly realize how much it affected me however until I saw this film and it absolutely ruined me

So as other people pointed out, it’s confirmed in Moon Knight that there are many different afterlife’s, all real in their own regard. Hippo lady even talks about how beautiful the Ancestral Plane is.
I think we also see a couple of those gods in Thor love and thunder
Yeah I think in Marvel it’s whatever you believe in is where you go.
Coogler also mentioned how they filmed scenes under water. And he learned to swim because of it. He said in an interview that if his actors had to learn how to swim and perform underwater then he had to as well
Also tenoch Huerta (namor) said he kind of knew how to swim when they called inquiring on if he’d play the role and he absolutely did not know how to whatsoever 😂
They asked Tenoch if he knew how to swim and he said “Ive never drowned before”
@@Pablo-bc4ti when I saw this in his interview i busted out laughing.
The interview where they took him to his home town (I assume) and showed him a mural of him that the people made for him broke me 😭
“Aw shit! She got an Iron Man Suit!” Might be one of the best line deliveries in the MCU.
So good! I laughed hard on that one. That definitely would have been me!
Tchala went to heaven to see his ancestors. Shuri went to hell to find hers.
To be fair, there probably was gonna be more of a build up to it in general but since Chadwicks gone (RIP) they had way more time to develop it
I feel like what they did with her non belief was enough honestly, whenever it was brought up she dismissed it or cursed it and I think it does try to show that she is not t'challa she can be like him and be honorable but she is also like Killmonger more ruthless preying upon weakness and cunning which is why her bp suit was in-between both t'challa's and Killmonger's also taking inspiration from both using gold and silver trim.
@@iamcool544 I dunno, i can never see Wakanda ancestral planes as that white and gospel like. It having heaven and hell is just very unwakandan.

No matter how many times I watch this movie, I will always tear up. Still can't believe Chadwick is no longer with us. As someone who also lost a parent (my mom), I understand the pain and grief that one goes through. It takes so much time and effort in you to be able to stand back up on your feet and move forward in life.
I love the way Namor fly’s, it’s like he’s swimming in the in the air
It's crazy that they tied in Namor's name as "no love". Namor was actually named JUST BECAUSE it mean ROMAN backwards and it sounded cool
yeah I like it gets some deeper meaning
@@lenkajunova7419 yah maybe not the best one
But at least it has a meaning
Namor is shortened from the Spanish name No Amor which the Spaniards where using when conquering the Mayans. It is a linguistic choice that is very common for us, Spanish speakers especially from the coastal areas.
it's kinda amazing that his name can be interpreted as so many ways. "No Amor" meaning No love. Roman spelt backwards, and also because pheonetically it sounds almost similar to the words "No more" in english.
The fact that I wasn't laughing my ass off at a shirtless guy in a speedo with winged feet shows the quality of the filmmaking.
Right? I thought he looked super cool
Amazing.
A man having tiny wings to fly is ridiculous. Leaps through the air at super soldier speeds, I stand corrected😂
Bro was strong that he didn't need armour.
@@aisha02a thank you and so sorry for your loss as well!❤
My dad actually had funeral like a week before this movie premiered.
That Talokan debut scene is freaking amazing, full horror vibe!!!
Really enjoyed the siren song. It adds to the mystery and power needed to introduce a worthy opponent to Wakanda.
The music when Shuri reveals herself as the Panther to the rest of Wakanda is INCREDIBLE. One of my favorite pieces in the MCU.

As T'challas dad told him "A man who has not prepared his children for his own death has failed as a father"
Eric was so excited and then crying after the first 10 seconds has me dying
I didn't expect the horror element from the Talokan people. But I definitely loved it
There is this comic called Sub-Mariner: The Depths. It's a horror comic in wich a submarine crew are scared by the myth of "Namor", a creature who haunts them in the depths of the sea.
I always hoped to see an adaptation of it. This ain't it, but it's still amazing. Oceans are scary!!
@@vicentematias763 actually that's neat. Interesting. But I don't think that will ever make to the big screen.
Period! 😌
Agreed.
We do know that the ancestral plane is actually "real"

I like how Shuri was grieving the whole movie, not just for a little and then saying "I'm all better now!" Like other mcu stuff.
I dont like how angry at the world she still was over a year after his death, when she was really angry at him keeping it quiet and for not letting her help sooner. But yes, that was refreshing of a trope. She played it well.

I heard it as a love song to/about Talokan and to endear us (and Shuri) to the nation.

Tenoch Huerta was amazing ! This was my first time seeing him but I am definitely a huge fan now!

one thing I wish is that they'd give Shuri's Black Panther suit the fur collar that it has in the comics.
@@BlackGirlMarvel I hope she'll also make an improvement to the Midnight Angel suits. I agree with Okoye, it's ugly🤣
Maybe in the future they will give her that since this is just her first bp suit in the movies
@@adyyyyy00 they look like Jar Jar Binks in those 🤣
@@adyyyyy00 unfortunately it's exactly like the comic suit, which is also hideous 😕 Definitely needs a redesign

The performances were absolutely perfect, in my opinion.

oh god its been so long and even seeing the beginning chopped up in this reaction got me crying wow!
And you just KNOW all those tears from the actors in the beginning are 100% real and genuine! In those moments they were NOT acting! 😥 RIP Chadwick!!!
Btw Trevor Noah was the voice of GRIOT, which was actually really nice since he was leaving the Daily Show around the time the movie released
man more people should have seen this in the theater. it was a moment, but even watching the reactions. i cry every time... every damn time! It's so powerful and underrated.
Agreed.
In regards to the ancestral plane my interpretation is based on a quote from Dumbledore "Of course it's happening inside your head, Harry. Why should that mean that it's not real?" Also in the mcu universe the ancestral plane is confirmed real as per the hippo goddess from moonknight
R.I.P. Connie Gabisile Chiume and R.I.P. Chadwick Boseman; both legends 🕊❤🩹
this movie utilizes silence so so well. on so many occasions through this movie, ryan coogler is asking you to sit with things. you sit with silence, you sit with grief. you sit. and it is uncomfortable at times, it's hard at times, but sometimes you have to sit with it. that was shuri's journey to get to that beach at the end. that's why it was so beautiful when she finally allowed herself that moment.
i loved the little moments the most in this. riri saying "to be young gifted and black" something chadwick said while accepting their sag award for best ensemble for black panther. ramonda saying she can feel t'challa; ryan coogler said he felt chadwick's hand on his shoulder during the entire making of this film. shuri echoing t'challa's thoughts about vengeance from civil war. king t'chaka in bp1 saying "a man who has not prepared his children for his death has failed as a father", nakia saying t'challa prepared them for his death. i love these moments the most.
my biggest issue is their decision to kill ramonda. i don't know why it needed to happen. i mean i know but i also don't lol i don't like that shuri and peter have lost literally everything. it's like one loss was fine and needed for growth, but the second loss just feels unfair. shuri losing her mom after losing her brother. peter losing mj and ned after losing aunt may. the happiest avengers are now the most broken. fix my children! or at least let them be friends!
Love this movie! I had to hold back tears when I saw it in the theater, until I came home! Namor was great as well. Hope you guys like it! 🙏🏽💪
This movie has paid homage to the late Chadwick Boseman and Iron Man as well, the very movie that started the MCU.

This made me think of my youngest brother. He passed away from Lupus 12 years ago. Also an illness no one could cure. He never got to see most of the MCU movies. He would have loved all of them...mostly.
When Namor came on to the screen in good lighting for the first time my mum went “damn!”
