    " I am not your evil science teacher who made you feel bad".... your teaching style is phenomenal. I'm 60 years old and you're the absolute best teacher of anything I've ever learned. I'm writing down everything you say almost word for word and stating my rv repair business and leaving my boring slow paced crane operating career behind. Plus I have 10 acres if people want to leave their rvs with me too, I can teach someone else to help me. You have a beautiful soul. I'm honored to learn from you and see your inspirijg personality every day.

    I do the majority of my RV repairs. I needed this video. I will be testing my unit as my ac runs and I can hear the compressor come on but it doesn't cool. Thank you for explaining the test process. I suspected a freon leak but I don't see any black oily substance around anywhere. Again, thank you.

    Sorry the phone closed on me so I noticed on this unit if I turn off the AC and wait 10 or 15 seconds turn it back on, it cools properly with a 15 to 20° difference. When I did this I went back up top and did the measurement and the black wire was reading a little less than double the other two wires so now the compressor is not bad.
    It seems to blow hot air more frequently when it's hot outside than when it's cold right now I'm sitting in a chili nicely cool motorhome after the sun has gone down and the AC has been putting out great cold air but sometime tomorrow it'll switch back to not cooling. I don't think my compressor is bad or it's bad in that sometimes it totally works and sometimes it doesn't. What could it be I'm at a loss for my next step and the different technicians honestly don't know what they're doing. Your videos are more informative that they could ever hope to be.

    I have a new 2023 Rv with a Coleman mach 15 A/C. We bought the rv last September and only started using the AC recently.
    I followed the advice you mentioned in the video and used a volt meter on the compressor and it passed the test. I did not find an oily residue near the compressor or the coils, so there’s no freon leak. However my A/C is still just blowing slightly cool to almost room temperature air. Also I’m noticing after about 15 or 20 minutes that the top half of my evaporator is starting to frost over and turn to ice. The birdcage fan turns really well and moves a lot of air. I also checked my freeze sensor on the volt meter and it appears to be ok. I made sure the baffle/plenum and foil tape were in proper position. Why is my unit not blowing cold air and why is the evaporator freezing up ?

      @Romansch6vs23 I have a 2022 5th wheel (1 previous owner) purchased in January 2023, with 2 Coleman Mach 15 ACs, after working fine last Summer, This summer the living room unit started freezing up. After cleaning the evaporator coils, the next day it really froze up and made a big bang and shot out ice... I called the repair guy out, he tested everything and basically said I had a pinhole leak in the freon, so it would not show up as oily residue or anything like that and it would be an extremely slow leak so it could easily take as long as it did to start having problems... But the main thing was that it was having to run non-stop to keep up with outside temps (SW FL) .... He straightened out my baffle a smidge, and added a little bit of tape to seal around a couple itty bitty tiny spaces/edges (Believe it or not the smallest cracks/spaces make the biggest differences) and after that I keep track of only allowing my AC to run 2 hours at a time and making sure it's off for a good 30 minutes to an hour before running it again... I haven't had any problem since, however it gets extremely hot during the day even with both my AC's running...the good one and the temperamental one. The air is only going to cool 20 to 25° less than what it is outside and our "feel like" temps have been around 105-106 when it's 94° outside. So, bottom line is you may have a pinhole leak in your Freon, so you might only be able to run it a couple hours at a time or otherwise it'll start to freeze up, also, it's not going to give you that ice cold air like a perfectly running system would. I get very cool air, somewhat cold air out of the temperamental one... but it's not as "ice cold" as the good running one in the bedroom. If any of that makes any sense. At least I haven't had to replace it so far.

      @user-zq8vi2wl7g if it has a pin hole leak than the feon would all leak out and it would not cool at all I'm having the same problem freezing up starts at top of evaporator once the air flow is blocked it stops cooling like it should

      @@user-zq8vi2wl7g HELLO neighbor! I’m also in SWFL. My A/C is still under warranty, but it would be a few weeks before the dealership could get it in. I didn’t want to run my defective unit and take the chance of potentially burning it out. So I bought a cheap window A/C from Walmart and put it in the bedroom window and it works fairly well for now.

      I am a general Superintendent for construction. Whenever a unit doesn't pass operational testing and it ices the condensor coils over it is a low coolant condition (R134A, R410A, R22, doesnt matter which one). The same applies for the RV units. I have read that some newer units were coming under charged from the factory with no leaks detected on the unit. For example the Dometic Brisk 2 takes 18oz of R410A.
      However, if the unit starts icing from the bottom of the evaporator coil up I would suspect you have a plugged up condensation drain.

    Emily, question. My Mach works great until it shuts off at designated temperature. When it cycles back on, it SOMETIMES tends to blow warm air until i turn off for a few minutes and turn it back on again. What would keep the compressor from firing up as normally as it should and firing up intermittently? THX

    • @rvrepairwoman
      @rvrepairwoman  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A lot of the thermostats have built in timers for the compressor. So it won’t turn on the compressor until after a certain period of time has passed.

When I turn the air conditioner on ...cold...the compressor sounds like it wants to start...makes a little noise...generator labors....then sounds like it resets and follows that pattern ever 45 seconds or so. No visible leaks.....thoughts? Not much left but almost sounds like compressor is stuck somehow.

      I also modified my AC. In addition to what the video below will show you I took out the little plastic rings that are connected to my vents and I taped the space up with foil tape, in place of the ring. The rings interrupt the airflow and they allow air into the space between the ceiling and the roof. Before I did the mod and taped the vents the only way you could feel the vent is I went up to it put my hand right on it. Now it gets so cold I have to aim them away from me. You lose your dump vents on the unit, but I don’t miss them and I thought I would.
      Also, if you have space that extends beyond your last vent block that and tape it up as well.

We do stay connected to 120V Shore Power most of the time BUT if we lose 120V Power then we switch to the on-board Generator and the on-board House Batteries for that through the Systems Control Panel. I hope I explained that correctly... basically it is either/or and the Trickle Charger is normally left in the ON Position. I think that's how it works. I know that the Trickle Charger can be turned ON and OFF at the Batteries in one of the MOTORCOACH'S Basement areas where the House Batteries are housed. Roof AC Fan works great 👍👌, but NO👎Cold Air. THANKS for ANY Help. We're currently in HOT FLORIDA 🔥 TEMPERATURES and in our mid-70s of age... running FOUR Floor Fans! And taking 2-3 cool showers 🚿 👌 per day. We also take our 2 Multipoo pups into the cool showers 🚿 with us to help keep them comfortable too. Also keeping everyone HYDRATED is Key 🔑 👌 👍. I'm trying everything I know to do as a former 911 Dispatcher. But the daytime hours are too HOT 🔥 for either of us to go up on the Motorcoach's roof. It's been a month now without AC, and will be another month until temps would safely 🙏 allow either of us to try checking the roof-top AC adequately. HUSBAND IS A VETERAN AND IS A HEART/LUNG PATIENT. It's been hard on all of us but I'm sure there are others out there who are struggling without working AC units across the country, especially in the Deep Southern and Western states. I'm trying to remain positive 💪 about it all. Emily, you are a true GEM 💎 💖 to your profession! Wonderful 👏 to see a great Female technician out there breaking through barriers 💪🤝 and not compromising your own self worth while doing it all. Bravo 👏 to you and your continued success 👏 🙌 👍.

      @@rvrepairwoman Any eta on your guide for Dometic? Sadly the blower in one of mine stopped working. Motor was replaced, I heard rattling then suddenly a loud clank and it sounds like something jammed it. Haven't had a chance to get on the roof to figure out what's going on and am considering just hiring someone to take a look, but thought I'd see if your Dometic Guide was published first.

    Technically you should check the meter FIRST on a known good voltage source. Typically a receptacle. To verify the meter is good.

    • @rvrepairwoman
      @rvrepairwoman  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      😅because I have women who call me every week telling me how some male tech was super condescending to them and hoping I’ll be different. I’m not saying it WILL happen. I’m saying it DOES happen. And one way to avoid it? Learning how to test your AC yourself.

    Most of the time it can be your start capacitor and run capacitors that go bad its a common issue. They are $13 for each one the start capacitor is back and the run capacitor is silver

    • @sandym.6389
      @sandym.6389 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      How does one test the capacitors and where can we purchase them, if needed? We just replaced our RVP Excelair with their recommended Coleman Mach 8. Our old RVP a/c was shot. This new Coleman Mach 8 now runs, but is just blowing ambient air. Frustrated beyond belief at the lack of instruction provided by RVP, after expending $1,560 plus $179 for shipping. Fortunately our bedroom unit still works, but can't cool enough for the entire 5th wheel, in these current 90-94 degree Louisiana heat waves.
