It's always astonishing to me when a Witness says that the Watchtower makes no claim to being a prophet. Even if they never said it, which they did, their actions of predicting events in the name of "Jehovah" makes them prophets by default. It would be like if someone performed surgery on people in their community and had many casualties due to lack of education. When that person gets accused of being a false surgeon their defense is, "I never said I was a surgeon." It's an baseless and asinine argument that could only be believed by the highly delusional.

First of all, I'd like to think you for your work. I was never a baptized witness, but I was born and raised in it. For a long time, I thought that "this was the truth", but by the time I was eight, my mind started to question myself about why everyone would have to die. Sure, I was just a kid with almost no understanding for what this organization stood for whatsoever. When I became a teenager, and also a preacher (I believe this is the correct term), I started to question a lot of things. Why the prophecies weren't being fulfilled, why there is so much cynicism within the organization. But by the time I was around nineteen, my parents got divorced. My dad was an elder, a congregation overseer, so this was quite a shock for everyone. Not for me though, for I had lived inside my house walls, so I knew what was going on. But to see brothers and sisters practically picking sides, to whom had done what wrong. And trying to pry into their lives through me and through my sister, and my mother, was despicable. We had done so much, helped so many, and yet, people were prying, and at the same time, turning their backs on all of us. My mother, whom had worked for like 7/8 years, before that she had only be a regular pioneer, was left to fend for herself. I sincerily do not remember anyone comming at our door, or calling us to see if we needed something. People I honestly thought were my friends, for so many years, just like that, we were like dust in the wind to them. After that, I almost never set foot on a kigdom hall. It painned me to have people comming to me, with smiles on their faces, like as if all they did was forgoten. But even after all of that, part of me still thought that maybe I was wrong to have left. I had my doubts, but I had never looked into them. Thing is, recently, a story about child abuse came to light, here in Portugal. Wich led me to start to dig in. This was when I found your website. I never knew how litle I knew about an organization I spent 19 years in. A huge chunk of weight was lift from me. I think you for all of your work and the time you spent with this, and I hope that you continue doing it.
Amazing how many ex-JWs wind up agnostic, even those raised in the organization, myself included. If their job is to prophecy about Jehovah and draw people closer to Him, they've failed monumentally.

I may be an exception then, I am a spiritual tourist of sorts. Not much of a joiner though, do not ever want to get entangled and not be able to exit. I believe some very sincere people are JW's. I just need spiritual freedom to explore.
The bible verse that got stuck in my head after I broke with the Hall was Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens his friend." Keep on being a good friend.

I just wanted to say that it is so great to see this, to see the fear not in you. You are not alone, there are many who have seen the reality of the WTBTS, the tearing apart of families and the lack of love, the constant unfulfilled prophesies and the denial of ever claiming to be prophets. They claimed, more than once to be God's prophet, the modern day Ezekiel and later in publications stated they never claimed to be prophets- all lies.

My wife and I, together with our three children, disassociated in 2012 after a year of futile attempts to reason with the elders how wrong some of the Watchtower teachings were. And when accused of not Fearing Jehovah, we told the elders it was the love of God and the fear not to distort his holy word that moved us to raise our voice against the Watchtower distortions. I have watched both of your videos, brother. And no problem about the noise which I could not have heard if you had not mentioned. May Lord Jesus Christ bless you for being honest.
1914 is my number one grievance and my family just brushes it off like no big deal. For kids growing up in the 80s it was the BIGGEST deal. Thinking of all the things you most likely wont do before the big one hits.

I remember well the Watchtower study where we were told that the WT is a prophet. Their claim is that not just the WT but all JW's collectively form that "prophet". It was the April 1 WT...1972. Since then, many more of their "prophecies" has proved false. and many more of their teachings have been changed.
I was a witness from 1981 to 91. I was the only one. My family was not . I’m glad I did not have been shun from family. They are happy I left, but they don’t bring it up.
Oh ya over and over they gave prophesy dates. I remember vividly 1975 was to be the end. I wouldn't have even graduated from high school according to jws prophesy. 1975 came and went....

As an Eastern Orthodox Christian, let me tell you that I've been actively seeking out people who were thinking of becoming JWs, and I've been praying for all of you since 1987 when I had a very nasty encounter with someone whom I thought I knew until I invited him to my Chrismation in to the Orthodox Church. Boy did I ever find out what he was, and his behavior was juvenile at best and truly unholy at worst. Here I thought I knew this guy, and I wanted to meet him and his family. After that encounter, I decided to pray for JWs, because they really are good people, but they are truly mislead and they even believe in a god? I say it this way, because I can't help but refer to John 1 vs. 1-2, specifically the part that says "and the Word was "a" God." I'm so glad you're still searching and asking the tough questions, because I learned so much and still continue to learn everyday about the One in whose Image we are made. Please put away the word Jehovah. It is not God's Holy name but indeed a name that was made up just as the JW religion was, and their translation of the Holy Scriptures is completely unacceptable, and I learned that the 7 scholars who were supposedly involved only knew about 12 sentences in modern Greek and about 100 phrases as well. Scientology videos brought me here, and also the fact that my niece was baptised about 5 years ago, shes 30. None of my other family members are in any organisations. Her mother and father support what she does because she was a very unhappy person for a long time before her interest in JW . Even thouh she seems much calmer and happier since joining (at least on the outside, I worry badly for her. During a conversation years ago with her we were talking on beliefs and I told her mine, I believe in the universe and law of attraction, and while explainkng hers she said something about fearing jesus. I said honey!! Jesus would not want u to fear him! She replied 'but to fear jesus is to love jesus'...my heart broke for her :( what can we do to help her? Her parents arent interested in researching JW online, they see their daughter is happy and thats all they care about...do we just have to sit back and wait and hope she comes to her senses? Its only recently ive become aware of disconnection in JW and ive lost a fair bit of hope. Sorry for mega long post, hope u see this xx

I was a witness from 1981 to 91. I was the only one. My family was not . I’m glad I did not have been shun from family. They are happy I left, but they don’t bring it up.

Oh ya over and over they gave prophesy dates. I remember vividly 1975 was to be the end. I wouldn't have even graduated from high school according to jws prophesy. 1975 came and went....
You’re right! They did call themselves prophets but that’s not even the point. They are the very definition of false prophets, actually

Hello, John, and let me wish you all the best to you, your wife and all your offspring. As an Eastern Orthodox Christian, let me tell you that I've been actively seeking out people who were thinking of becoming JWs, and I've been praying for all of you since 1987 when I had a very nasty encounter with someone whom I thought I knew until I invited him to my Chrismation in to the Orthodox Church. Boy did I ever find out what he was, and his behavior was juvenile at best and truly unholy at worst. Here I thought I knew this guy, and I wanted to meet him and his family. After that encounter, I decided to pray for JWs, because they really are good people, but they are truly mislead and they even believe in a god? I say it this way, because I can't help but refer to John 1 vs. 1-2, specifically the part that says "and the Word was "a" God." I'm so glad you're still searching and asking the tough questions, because I learned so much and still continue to learn everyday about the One in whose Image we are made. Please put away the word Jehovah. It is not God's Holy name but indeed a name that was made up just as the JW religion was, and their translation of the Holy Scriptures is completely unacceptable, and I learned that the 7 scholars who were supposedly involved only knew about 12 sentences in modern Greek and about 100 phrases as well. Scientology videos brought me here, and also the fact that my niece was baptised about 5 years ago, shes 30. None of my other family members are in any organisations. Her mother and father support what she does because she was a very unhappy person for a long time before her interest in JW . Even thouh she seems much calmer and happier since joining (at least on the outside, I worry badly for her. During a conversation years ago with her we were talking on beliefs and I told her mine, I believe in the universe and law of attraction, and while explainkng hers she said something about fearing jesus. I said honey!! Jesus would not want u to fear him! She replied 'but to fear jesus is to love jesus'...my heart broke for her :( what can we do to help her? Her parents arent interested in researching JW online, they see their daughter is happy and thats all they care about...do we just have to sit back and wait and hope she comes to her senses? Its only recently ive become aware of disconnection in JW and ive lost a fair bit of hope. Sorry for mega long post, hope u see this xx

Is wasting your time on something that isn't going to change.I was born into this religion also and don't agree with some of its teachings and some I do agree with.Choosing to be bitter about it and holding a grudge against them will only harm yourself in the end.
Either the religion is true or it isn't. If it's true, it should be possible for you or someone else to present evidence. If it isn't true, or you can't prove that it's true, this religion is ruining lives and even killing people needlessly, and I will never apologise for speaking out about that.

You won't get an argument from me there. I don't believe that any religion can lay claim to truth. But not every religion can be accused of breaking up families (shunning), covering up child abuse, and persuading people to die rather than accept blood.
