Imagine if... say, your regular grocery store just suddenly didn't let you buy things if you didn't have their store card. They've never required this card before, but one day, you're told, "No card, no food." What would you do? A good chunk of people would go find another grocery store.
Also for whatever reason, some towns will not ever be allowed to be issued cards so the only way they can now get the "food" would be to steal it

It's mostly on Valve's side, but that's because it's against policy to relist a game that requires something the countries/territories do not have to run the game. In this case, Sony's account linking requirement. Sure, they bent the knee for Helldivers 2 (for now), but it did not mean they'd remove that requirement for good.

Yeah as much as I love the Horizon series I'm worried abou Horizon 3 as I reall yenjoyed Zero Dawn and I enjoyed the recently released Forbidden Wes ttoo but I dpon't really wantt obe forced into signing up for something I don't want
To be fair some of the games they have ported to Steam are decent, like Horizon Forbidden West, Zero Dawn, God of War Valhalla and The Last of Us part one, but it's not like I would have felt missing out of anything "big" if they never ported them. Refuce to buy Ghost of Tsushima because parts of it requires PSN link and will boycott their games from now on until they completely remove all PSN linking forever.

I buy about 80% to 90% on GOG these day's, and since I made a Steam account years ago to play HalfLife 2, I am also on the Steam storefront. I sure as hell not going to buy the latest God Of War if a PSN account is needed. The first God Of War (of this series) is available on GOG without the need of any extra account, so it completely baffles me that the same type of game needs a account all of the sudden. Weird idiots there at PlayStation...

Don't bother pirating. Their games deserve as little attention as possible. Piracy helps sales as more people are playing their games and talking about them, which leads to legitimate customers buying them later.
Even if you do pirate it, you still are required to sign in to PSN to even run the game. If PSN caught that you're running a pirate copy then you get banned on Sony's server for life. A lot of Sony's games on PC are online only even for single player.

Man I dunno, I have both a pc and ps5 but this whole thing is dumb. PC logins are far more intrusive than anything you ever see on a playstation. I get it that people are sick of yet another third party login but it's a pc life problem in general Sony is just the straw that broke the camels back, Every still laps up all the other companies log ins despite them not ever making a decent game (unlike Sony). I prefer to buy my games on PS5 just because I think digital downloads is a hoax and something for the silly people. (I do buy digital games but only when they are on extreme sale, like 5 bucks).

I had a back and forth with a PlayStation Fanboy a few days ago, and his argument for the Firewall being put on PS games was the 120-180 countries being blocked are poor, so they don't need to care about them. Which annoyed me personally as a person who lives in ones of these countries and has a better PC than most American PC players (Ryzen 7 5700x, RX 6800 and 32GB DDR4). I can easily run these games. Just because we don't have as much residual income as the USA doesn't mean we can't afford anything, or we don't have paved road or high speed internet.
This just goes to show even MORE how PS fanboys are literally idiotic. I think the dumbest argument I saw in this video was “why do I need a Steam account to purchase and play games through Steam,” and my literal response to that is “why do I need a PSN account to purchase and play games on the PS?” See how it’s dumb? I personally live in the USA, but I know for a fact that smaller countries, in size, GDP, etc, around the world actually wouldn’t look the way you’d except them to look at all, and it’s actually pretty cool. PSN is not only required on Steam, it's required for PC and console in general. Even if you bought Ghost of Tsushima or God of War Ragnarok at the Epic Game Store or Steam or PS5, you're still required to log into a PSN account to even run the game.

-This account & library of games is accessible on any PC, doesn't become obsolete after several years, nor does it require me to hope the next version of Steam offers backwards compatibility (you know, like going from a PS3 to PS4, or PS4 to PS5).
-This account allows me to uninstall & reinstall games any time I wish. If I had no account, there would be no way to prove I bought these games.

-It would A) would require me to search that up & provide it every time I want to re-install a game and B) Steam would have no way to prove I'm not just installing said game on multiple people's devices & giving away games for free. No account to prove otherwise after all!
-If my computer or HDD/SSD died, I have no way to access my digital purchases installed on that hardware. Everything being tied to hardware is awful. Being tied to an account allows me to use any Steam-supported device I want, while all my games continue to work many generations after buying them. Just ask people who bought digital games on the Wii how well that worked.
-Then you have all the side benefits like Achievements, modding, gaming communities, reviews & game data and ability to get full refunds of games played 2 hours or less. If you didn't have an account, Steam would have no way to tell how long you've played, and they don't need a receipt.

The game is online only so pirating it is kinda moot here since you're essentially downloading a launcher instead. The game is running on Sony's server now, it was temporarily on Steam server for a while. The reason why the game is no longer running on Steam server anymore was cause Valve doesn't want to pay for it.

Of the top 15 currently most played games on Steam (Concurrent players at the moment I looked),
3 required a 3rd party account. EA, Rockstar and Activision accounts (Apex Legends, GTA5 and Call of Duty).
The top 10 most played Steam games of all time, not a single one requires a 3rd party account (funny, 11th place needs a 3rd party account).
So PS Fanboys, tell me how "I need a 3rd party account" for PC games again? In my personal top 15 games on my Steam, only 2 need a third part account. And I don't play those that much anymore.

Only Sony loses in this situation. They lose sales due to PSN not being available in 150 countries. Shooting themselves in the foot while pissing off millions of potential customers in the process. And Joe isn't going to like this ... but Sony is 100% going to do this for a Bloodborne Remaster or Bloodborne 2.

In what way? If something this small prevents you from buying the game then you where never going to buy the game if given the alternative option to pirate it.
The argument that game pass cannibalizes sales is because the monthly game pass fee is only like 10 bucks a month for the basic tier. A single person would need to be subbed for several months to make up the sale of 1 game. By releasing it day of release on game pass it teaches people not to buy games but use game pass for much cheaper.
Which impacts sales of the game for both third party and first party titles during launch. Leading to a potential for a loss in over all revenue in new titles. Less relevant for older titles that have already hit market saturation.

They are making Until Dawn a single player game require a PSN account also. This is ridiculous. I will not be buying anymore Playstation games unless they stop the PSN requirement. I refuse to link my steam to PSN where they have had data breaches in past. I am not putting my steam account at risk. I will just buy other games from other developers.
Another thing the fanboys fail to mention is that the other companies that require accounts to play their games (EA, Rockstar, etc.) likely have support in those 150+ regions where PSN isn’t.

Ironically they only blocked players after PC gamers threw a massive fit about Helldivers. Sony's actions are a direct response to people complaining about not being able to make PSN accounts and claiming it is unfair to sell. So block all those countries to avoid that issue.

One thing to note is that you can actually _MAKE_ Microsoft, Rockstar, EA, and Ubisoft games in Nepal, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Latvia, Peru, Fiji... I don't have a _clue_ why people are overlooking this. These places _exist._
Sony is doing this in my opinion because they are about to start factoring PC gamers into their metrics they just announced the adapter for PSVR2 with native VR app on steam so yeah Sony is going full PC lol

Ragnarok is so much worse than the first game. The writing is atrocious and the gameplay is dull. You're not missing out trust me.

The only reason, outside of the obvious, to require a PSN account in Steam is for trophy support. I don’t even know if GOW:R offers trophies on Steam though. 🤷♂️
It is redundant to make multiple accounts on a steam account.
Let me sign in twice and bork the games I downloaded into oblivion whenever there is no internet connection because that makes sense.
I try not to play games that require multiple accounts to play on one store or service for that very reason.
I’m pretty sure I never had to make a Ubisoft account for division 1 and 2…I don’t remember if I had to for any recent far cry’s.

PlayStation must take their investors as fools if they think PSN PC users is going to impress anyone, its just a component of the games sold on Steam and nothing else. Its not like these are PS+ users, if I was an investor I'd not be impressed. Forcing PSN on PC is pointless across the board.
I have PSN since I have owned multiple PS consoles and if the From Software games do get ported I will buy them regardless but I think this whole situation is just trash. This feels like a half step measure before they introduce their own launcher and try to force PS+ onto PC users.
god of war 2018 never heats up, i forced myself to platinum the thing and even though it takes less than half the time of a single normal run of tlou2 to get said platinum it felt twice as long because its so utterly fucking dull, it is a truely dreadful experience and apparently ragnarok is even longer

I know it's a long shot but what if Sony forced a PSN account on all their games on Steam, some sort of update maybe to all existing games. I know it's a stretch but would or could Sony do that? Doesn't seem so stupid of an idea to me.

Thought this was on the cards after the fact that no other game after God of War was available on GOG. There was I thinking they were getting it right, finally, doing what M$ were not prepared to do and embracing the PC market correctly. More fool me.

3rd-party accounts could have been good things. Fifteen years ago. Instead, they are intrusive annoyances that are crammed down our throats. Lets be honest here, Sony doesnt care about those countries because the sales in those countries mean nothing in the long run and neither are they a heafty amount. As long as America, Japan, India, UK etc are secure thats all that matters.
This pretty much killed all excitement I had for this port and if this decision isn't changed I'm cool with not getting the game at this point given how long I've already waited.
I would have spent $20 for Immortals of Aveum, but they have an EA account with always-online required. So I won't buy it. Which is unfortunate because for $20, I'd definitely play it otherwise.
